Romano, whatever you think of him, saying there will be an end-of-season review before decisions are made, Slot has not yet been told he'll be let go and that Liverpool have not had any talks with Alonso.

I don't agree with that last part whatsoever, but I thought it was an interesting take.

How would you feel if it turned out we never actually made a move for Alonso and the club was genuinely backing Slot for next season the whole time? Would it change your view on FSG and their ownership?

FSG touched lucky getting Klopp, the club value went from about 600 million to reports of 4 billion£. Doesn't matter how you play it another 12 months of this ( crap unsuccessful bland football ) will devalue that. We need the right manager one who improves players and the team and that's not Slot.

Hence why I said "whatever you think of him". Personally, I don't think much of him myself, and he certainly isn't a source for insider information regarding Liverpool, like I said, I don't agree with it at all, but I just thought it was an interesting take.

I could accept the "transition" season if there were any signs of us getting better or the fact that we were awful for last few months of last season.
FSG can't be blind, if they have seen us play for majority of this season they must have seen how poor we have been & that Slot has failed to address the issue.
Many rival fans might look and say a title & CL football next is great return, but I'd say the title was won after the ground work had been laid & after the huge outlay in the summer, the slow build up play clearly does not suit most of them.

Especially Isak, who needs the ball in behind or from the flanks.
Is Slot the right man to get the best out of this squad & the man who's going to take the club forward. To me the answer to that is no.

Probably a mixture of half truths and guesswork. What I will say is that Slot looks like a weight has been lifted these last few press conferences. It could be that there is relief about our league position or there is already clarity on his future.


If he does end up staying, then let's hope he has learnt a lot from this season and gets us playing properly again.

Question for the Eds (and obviously welcome everyone's thoughts)

Do you think potential new managers/head coaches could be put off joining as a result of the set up behind the scenes?

If Edwards and Hughes are "interviewing" new managers and it is clear through these conversations that the two are remaining in post- I think that could put off potential first team head coaches

I know that the set up is not unfamiliar in modern day football but any manager and their agent will surely want assurances that they way they want to set up, and play, aligns with Edwards and Hughes.

Wasn't Edwards over-extending himself when Klopp was here one of the reasons he left the club before returning?

I worry that having those two in position will put off the type of manager we want, and is that now manifesting itself in more "noise" around Slot staying on next season.

The job he was meant to be doing does not exist, so he is interfering within the club without any remit or limits on what he is involved with. That is a big red flag to anyone. It is like having one of those mad old chairmen that used to pick the teams etc. Nobody wants to work under those structures, they want to know that they can do their job without interference.}

I cannot see them two letting a new manager have the run of the playing side edd1 they have to protect their positions after the fiasco of this season anywhere else they would have been sacked but there is still time for that to happen. YNWA

I've given up the idea of Alonso because of Edwards and Hughes potentially staying.

I think the two muppets only leave if FSG sack them, but I don't think FSG have the balls, or maybe the understanding, to do so.

The likes of Alonso and Enrique (if he ever became available) wouldn't work under Edwards and Hughes in their current capacity, in my opinion.



My guess is we stick with Slot next season or get someone like Hoeness in. I'd take the latter as I think Slot has done all he can already and we need a change now.

I agree with this. I think they trust Edwards highly, hence why they bought him back in a more senior capacity.

I can't see them being close enough to the football side to over rule him on football aspects. In that regard, I think they are quite hands off.

I don't know how true it is but I did read that Edwards is on 10 million a year. So, I would think one of the 2 will be leaving at least. Can't be paying out that much to someone who no longer has a job with a purpose anymore.

I think the amount of business that is still required this summer is definitely one half of why they are still pumping out the "we are one" propaganda. (The other half being keeping the current squad focused on the minimum objective of CL qualification).

Not an ITK, but my money is on Slot announcing his departure by mutual consent at the end of the season, Hughes completing the summer's recruitment business before announcing his departure in September.

With Edwards, much depends on FSG's decision on multi-club. It seems they still want to do it but are not pursuing it at the moment due to economic uncertainty. However, if one of the 10s of clubs they have performed due diligence on become more financially distressed and offer an opportunity, don't rule out an acquisition.

But who knows. Maybe they all stay. Maybe they all leave. It's all just speculation at this point.

I would rather him be our number 2 that Mamma.
Thought the ref was wrong not to stop the game yesterday considering he stopped it in the first half when Johnson had a shot fell over and stayed down holding his shoulder stop us breaking.

{Ed001's Note - firstly the game should not have been stopped either time and the team was guilty of amateur hour defending. Every kid is taught to play to the whistle, there is no excuse for them to just stand and watch trying to hold an offside line when there is no keeper.

Woodman seemed ok, better suited to our game than Mamardashvili but it is just one game.}

Woodman had a good game and he'll remember the reception he got for the rest of his career. However, I wouldn't be making him our number 2 on the back of 1 performance.

Also, on yesterday's showing, his kicking is no better than Mama's.

Crowd were great with him yesterday. Made him feel 10 feet tall, I'm sure.

I tend to agree, the rest of the Liverpool players should have played to the whistle.

But, it was frustrating in the stadium because of how willing the ref was to stop the game several times before that point for almost no reason (i.e. not a foul or a head injury).

Woodman is a very good number 3. Ticks all the boxes, experienced, competent, and, importantly, home grown. Didn't feel the same panic as when Adrian used to step in. Can say that. Made some very good saves, and overall was a calm presence. I'm sure he'd rather have occasional days like that than be kicking around in League One or League Two.

Yeah I am with you on the game should not be stopped Ed but when the ref has already done in twice Ed for outfield players can't just change the way your reffing the game.
As for the keeper it is only one game but every time Mamma has played I feel like am back in time and Mignolet is in goal again. Am not sold of Freddie as I've not seen enough of him Ed but I would definitely have him in as backup with the choice of them 2.


Just a relief Ed that we are nearly there for champions league football for next season can't wait till this season is over and hope next season brings better football to watch more than anything been so hard to watch this season struggle to get to good games you can count on one hand this season.

{Ed001's Note - the ref is in charge, you play to the whistle, that is on the players allowing the goal to go in. No one tried to close him down even. It is embarrassing, like a bunch of schoolboys who don't know the rules. Your whining about the ref, but he blew the whistle those times, he didn't this time, sorry but players trying to referee the game is a far bigger problem than the ref himself.


I have made it plain what I think of Mamardashvili, should never have been bought, but that does not mean Woodman is the answer. I would defo keep him as 3rd choice though at least and replace Mama.}

I'd love us to bring Khelleher back, we didn't miss Alison as much when we had Khelleher. Maybe we will move for him when Alison eventually leaves.

Kelleher isn't good enough to become our new No1. He deputised admirably when he stepped up, but, in my opinion, we should be looking elsewhere when Alisson looks to leave. Also, I'm not anti Mama, like a lot of folk. There are certainly a lot worse back up keepers out there.

Ref was correct to play on. We didn't play to the whistle. Stood about watching, our defence knew the keeper was down, whatever is happening, the first thought is to cover the goalkeeper, stop a shot being taken, then see how the keeper is.
We did none of the above.

I'm a harsh git, Albey. A lot of Woodman's kicks out went to a Palace player. As I say, no better than Mama's.

I was chuffed for him, and I would have confidence in him stepping up again, but there is room for improvement in his kicking.

I speak as someone who's played a round of golf with his dad, which is hardly a claim to fame, I know!

Keep Alisson for one more season, flip Marmardashvilli, and sign Robin Risser from Lens. Keep Woodman as a 3rd choice, if he is up for it. If Jaros recovers strongly, make him our no2 after Alisson leaves next summer.

Morning, all Reds, just watched MOTD there and have to say a couple of things, and that is, if there was ever a case that proves VAR is run by crooks, it was yesterday. In that, the blue half of the city should have had a penalty against West Ham Utd, and 2ndly, just before the West Ham goal from the corner, Pickford again committed a horrendous challenge against Tatt, I believe it was.

Why did VAR not have a look at it? Surely it warranted a check, but nothing. So does that not prove a point. 👍

Pickford is an absolute dipstick. He is reckless and gets away with it. Never forgive him for the brain fart challenge on VVD, and, yes, the West Ham one should have been looked at. He also screamed at the player after it. Total plum of a man.

There is no defence for VAR, it has become so bad that people are going to accuse it of cheating. I don't agree with the video picture they put up for off sides, that proves nothing.

From the video picture, you cannot see when the ball was played, and it is easy to put the lines where you want. No one can see what they're doing, so it is open to accusations.

I fully agree, Lowe1FC, re/ Wirtz. Anyone thinking he is not good enuff while playing in this shambles of a system is just being lazy or taking pot shots at him for no reason. The technique on that strike alone is all you need to see/know about how great of a talent he is, in spite of the tactical debacle under this manager. I rate him very highly and wouldn't switch him for Cherki.

As for Pickford, I thought he should have been penalised for that reckless challenge on the WH player even tho, he saved the shot. Not only did he do that, he went shouting at the player while he was down and then walking about like he's the man. A truly vile player, indeed.
