Reminds me of when I used to play in goal in school playing hockey, I used to use my feet to block shots a lot, more than your average keeper, until one day I expertly volleyed out this screamer of a shot, really connected with it and my big toe nail pinged off into my shoe. So maybe Pickford and migs have done the same because I know I never used my feet after that haha.

Love this idea Ed.
I've often only picked up on certain things players do or don't do after you've mentioned them on here and I've specifically looked out for them in the next game, so it'll be nice to hopefully start seeing these for myself!
Look forward to the rest of them!

{Ed001's Note - cheers RC, hopefully in the future you will be pointing them out to me then!}

Interesting read ed.

I have a short tidbit in relation to the keepers going hands down for shots at their feet. I've always found that odd as well.

I was told by a former Italian keeper that he was shown videos of keepers in ice hockey dealing with the same type of shot at the request of then national coach Cesare maldini and told to learn to deal with shots at the feet the same way. Two options - 1. Use the feet to keep the ball away from the goal and 2. Dive in the shot with full body so that it cannot rebound or be poked in.

Just thought that was interesting relative to this piece.

{Ed001's Note - that is essentially how I see it as well. I just don't understand the obsession with getting your hands to it. I know some have come from a handball background and so are used to using their hands for everything, but surely coaching should be looking to rectify that?}
