Think the Ed has put that one to bed.

I remember Lallana doing as he's told trying to press on the Sunderland players who clearly hadn't got control of the ball but coutinho and Can not pressing themselves, then busting a gut trying to get back 30 yars to catch up with PVA while Henderson got into his central defensive position, and then clyne switch off vs I think borini, and allow the 1 2 much easier than he should have giving Borini 5 yards of space.

If the entire team pressed when they should have, Sunderland wouldn't have found the space, if Clyne had have not let his man drift, Borini may not have been able to play the 1 2. You're criticising the 1 guy that busted a gut toget back into position having just pressed for making a challenge even though his run forced PVA much further out wide, and stoppe dhte passing channel to adam johnson, who can let have 10 yards of space at the edge of our area. (we were lucky borini didn't see that option. )

{Ed001's Note - I actually do think he has a point on Lallana though personally, he was poor, but I also agree with you that he was not the worst culprit yesterday. Far from it. So hard to criticise him in particular, when he was not even close to the main issue. Having said that, he is not playing well, offering little other than hard work, which is disappointing as that should be the least expected of a professional footballer.}

I know Lallana wasn't great yesterday the entire team weren't only henderson and Sakho I thought redeemed themselves, but criticising him in that instance on the touchline for me was off, for the reasons I pout above there were 5 other players who committed much worse offences in thaty period of play.
Too often we are half committing to the press for me, not every one seems to want to get involved. It just mean we get some players caught out of position and criticised when the lazy ones aren't doing their job.

Look at it again bob, excusing the non tackle with the fact he pressed is awful lad, so if you press and others around you don't it's then OK to not tackle? The very definition of pressing is to also tackle the opponent not just press press jockey then limply stick your foot out. Moreno was constantly getting caught on the wrong side of players and giving away free kicks can was poor, benteke was like a lamp post couthinho was redundant, and there were more, but Lallana was absolutely shocking IMO. And if people are happy with players like him that's fine, but expect nothing to change until people face up to the fact Rodgers has left us with an average squad and some truly awful players, I guarantee if Lallana played for man u you would all laugh at the money they wasted on him. Your all hypocrites. Gazza827, nobody likes a brown nose lad.

Sorry ed 001, borini is awful and my evaluation of him is not based on one game last night and continuing to make excuses for him shows a clear bias from yourself in my opinion because you have made excuses for him in the past and can't admit when you have called a player wrong, we've all been guilty of that over the years but eventually ( privately maybe) you will one day say " yes he is terrible ".

I was delighted when we signed Milner, but so far it looks like I was wrong about him and many people on here yourself included have slagged him off, have I replied saying your all wrong and made excuses for him? No! So far ed001 you and a lot of other posters are being proved correct and I'm wrong, so I'm not claiming I'm smarter than anyone else at all, what really has rattled my cage is defending an absolutely shocking contribution from Lallana with " he gave the assist ", and I was pointing out how making excuses for players who are clearly not good enough shows a complete lack of knowledge of a good player hence the comparison with borini, because the same moronic excuses were trooped out in defence of his shocking performances.

Ed001 show me a post where I've whined about people giving me grief? The only post you will find is me asking if a post of mine has been lost due to abuse or I'm not going to post any info I hear anymore because I'm being accused of getting info off twitter or Facebook, I genuinely love a good ruck on here, I will argue all day and night with anyone who wants it, eds included but ultimately the thread will go so those days no longer happen ( which I understand because it must be a nightmare for you eds. )

But I'll finish on this ed, can I have your honest opinion on Lallana last night and him in general since he signed.

{Ed001's Note - making excuses? How am I making excuses? Did I ever say he was a great player? You are making that crap up to try and say 'I told you so', when no one disputed that. He is a very decent penalty box sniffer, who never gets the chance to play there because he works hard. It is not making an excuse to say you can't judge him when he is playing out of position. It is a very valid reason, just like it is fair to suggest that part of Milner's problem was that he was playing centrally under Brendan Rodgers and was not suited to it. Was Borini a better option than some of the other options we had at the time? That was my point, only you are saying people said he was great.

It is not a lack of knowledge at all, it is a lack of insight that leads you to rule out anything that doesn't suit your argument and is why I am not going to waste my time on this argument. You are so determined to shout anyone down on this, out of your pathetic hatred of a former player, even bitching at him for turning down more money to go by claiming he was a money grabber. I am sorry but you are childish and petty, you abuse him because you don't like him, nothing more.

Every time you have posted info you have included a whine about how it will degenerate into abuse, but you bring it all on yourself as you post that knowing it will immediately get people posting in reply to that. You are a stirrer and cause half the issues. Just like this whole pointless thread now, it is not a case of you showing any insight or saying anything that hasn't been said a million times before, you just say it with a nastier edge.

My opinion is unchanged on Lallana, he is a weak link, he runs around a hell of a lot chasing round putting pressure on the opposition but that is the sum total of his contribution for us. He can't tackle, he takes far too many touches on the ball (it is significant that the goal came because he failed to control the ball and so it was a one touch ball through), doesn't get his head up quickly enough to look for a pass, slows down the play, gets in the way of good moves by offering no real movement or options other than moving towards the ball so closing down the space to play in, can't head the ball, can't shoot, lacks pace. He does have a lovely touch, his control is usually excellent and he can pick a pass if he would just lift his damn head up to spot one. For me he would have never been bought, I said that at the time, and he would be sold as soon as possible.}

Thanks for your assessment of Lallana ed001, I totally agree. If I'm stirring and have a nasty edge, ed, maybe a ban is in order? Your replys have had an equally nasty edge and merely added fuel to a thread you have had enough of, but I expect you'll gloss over that to suit your argument. That's your prerogative as your in control of the site. I give my opinion others give there's, I've explained I'm just as fallible as the next poster regarding players, but some people on here except mediocrity and defend the indefensible purely because they wear a red top then whine when things go wrong and look to then blame other entity's for the teams failings. Except mediocrity and you will get mediocrity.

{Ed001's Note - except mediocrity? I assume you mean accept? I don't believe that was what anyone was doing, they were merely asking for Borini to get a chance up front, rather than being sat on the sidelines when we had no fit strikers. Let's be honest, Borini would be a much better fit for our current system than Benteke, who is a statue. While I doubt he would score any more goals, his movement and workrate would create more goal scoring chances for the team as a whole, which we desperately need. That is not accepting mediocrity, it is accepting that sometimes you have to work with what you have for now. We are still stuck with one of the worst keepers in the Prem, while having a surfeit of attacking midfielders, sometimes you have to look to where you can not spend, rather than just where you need to spend.

Oh and I was giving my opinion on why you attract such nasty replies and negative responses, as your initial post shows the way you post. Perhaps you should reread it and see if you can't see the nasty edge I am referring to.}

I agree with you Ed on Borini, not saying he's a great player but I actually thought he tried very hard last night and when he got the ball to feet he actually looked dangerous. He's a decent striker who's never been played properly
As for Lallana I have to agree also, he does work hard and that's obviously what's keeping him his place at the moment because he's been poor now for a while.

Accept is correct, my apologies. You need to spice things up on here ed001, people who sugar coat things because they don't want to cause the delicate souls on here any offence is to the detriment of the site IMO, but that's all it is is opinion, I've always been abrasive ed001, you must know that by now, you either like me or hate me, I genuinely don't care which, no I'm lying there, I want posters to hate me, it gives the threads an edge. I don't whine about people attacking me, if that's how it's coming across then I need to re-phrase the way I ask were one of my posts has gone once it attracts abuse. I'm to old to change how I approach people, if I'm arguing about football in the pub, I'll talk to the person in front of me with exactly the same tone and rhetoric I use on here. Anyway I'm off out now, so if this threads still here in 4 or 5 hours time, I'll reply to the abuse it not doubt will receive 😭. Haha.

{Ed001's Note - I understand what you are saying, that is why we have the others page for the posts to be a bit more hard edged, as the idea was this page was for more light hearted stuff.}

It seems to me like you both agree Lallana and Borini are/ were not good enough, and are just arguing about how much by. But going off yesterdays game I don't even think Lallana was the worst out of the LFC front 3, nevermind the whole team.

I enjoyed reading the contributions above from Waro and Ed001. Real shame about the hard edge. Happy new year to all Liverpool fans, a special mention to Ed001 and Ed002. Keep up the good work and more success to you.

{Ed001's Note - the hard edge is only an issue because it is a banter page, if we were in person, or this was on the others page (for instance) it would not be an issue. We could have the hard edge without it being out of place or being a problem. Yes we would disagree and bicker, but then at the end of it we would just accept the differing opinions and move on, like we have. I agree with a lot of what he has to say, which is why I want to make more use of the others page and why I have tried so hard to push it on the site. We need a place where people can say their piece, but we also need a place where people can just laugh and joke and have fun. If we can keep them both for those purposes, then people can enjoy the site more, knowing they can leave the arguments behind on one page if they want to.

Happy new year to all, no matter team, religion, race etc, I hope it is a good year for all.}

Last season I kept saying play borini more, not because he was that good, but he worked hard, had a bit of pace, and wasn't terrible at finishing. Certainly a better option to start with than balotelli or Lambert (nothing against Lambert at all) but he was the best of a bad bunch. He barely got a look in after a productive season for Sunderland on loan. I still don't think he's great, but he made chances against us, scored in the last two games before us, and gives his all.
