I think 532 or Diamond works well, but Rio will be the one who suffers as not a natural fit to that system.
26 Mar 2026 19:54:20
I think we might end up with 3 cbs, 2 wing backs, 2 cm, and 1 am behind 2 strikers. Something like Leoni, Vvd & Jacquet; Frimpong & Kerkez; Grav & Sobzo; Wirtz; Ekitike & Isak.
27 Mar 2026 11:43:37
Gomez can't be relied upon because he's so fragile, would be daft going into next season with him still in the squad.
27 Mar 2026 13:17:54
I think if Real or any other make any sort of reasonable offer for Macca, we should let him go. He has lost a yard, it seems, and, with the PL getting more physical, he looks completely out of place.
27 Mar 2026 16:36:21
Looking at Xabi's Bayern, it's 2 att mids, 1 up top.
If rumours are true, and he uses that system, think big money will go elsewhere and an option come in for the wing.
27 Mar 2026 18:54:04
If Alonso brings his Leverkusen 3421, I would be very excited to see this team in that set up, with a couple of reinforcement in midfield and the backline.
Dunno why, but iv always really liked the 3 at the back with wingbacks set up.
28 Mar 2026 00:40:42
I'd be very underwhelmed if we start playing with 3 centre backs and 2 strikers.
28 Mar 2026 15:46:37
I do and I don't. We don't have sufficient backup for a 2 striker system right now. Isak and Hugo are not 90 minute men and both pick up injuries too easily. If we got stuck with Chiesa and Gakpo up front for any extended period, you can write off a title challenge.
Also, we've had monstrous success with wingers. We've lost some serious tenacity out wide. Mane, Diaz, now Salah's gone, Rio's too young to pick up the slack by himself, and as good as Hugo and Isak are, they just don't bring that same energy.
I think we need 2 wingers to bring some of that explosivity back. We've desperately missed it this season.
Zero interest in 3 at the back, that's for sure, we can't even cope with 4 at the moment. You could chuck 6 back there and we'd still struggle, never mind 3.
28 Mar 2026 22:49:32
Agree with Chewy, I am not a fan of 3 cbs generally, it takes away an attacker or midfielder. Generally the best don't need 3 cbs, and if a team plays 1 up front, u have 3 marking 1 player...
One of the biggest issues in Amorin's team at United was the lack of attackers. And more defenders doesn't mean better defending either.
26 Mar 2026 12:11:31
PSG are an utter disgrace… Hope we are more motivated now to put them to the sword.

They asked and it was granted. I don't see an issue.
26 Mar 2026 19:19:27
I think what makes it wrong is that Lens are battling with them for the French title, and it hands PSG a big unfair advantage.
Pretty sure if we were battling with Arsenal or City for the title at this point next year, and we weren't in Europe, everyone would go mad.
26 Mar 2026 21:50:56
Its also wrong because one team is going to have to play a tough champions league quarter final then an ultra competitive Premier League fixture in between before the return quarter final 6 days later. The other team gets a week to rest up in between the games.in a sporting sense its unfair.
27 Mar 2026 09:24:42
They asked and it was granted. Liverpool didn't ask, so we can't moan. If we beat them then it will be all the sweeter.
27 Mar 2026 10:35:59
Liverpool wouldn't bother asking. They already know the answer. The TV companies rule in England.
27 Mar 2026 11:04:05
So, PSG took advantage of not being at the behest of TV companies. Unfortunately, SKY and TNT own the PL in all but name.
{Ed001's Note - PSG are owned by the guy who owns the TV company that shows Ligue 1.}
27 Mar 2026 12:38:38
They didn't though. It was their league's decision. Should have asterix's over everything they win. ? They have gained a competitive advantage over both LFC and Lens in this instance.
27 Mar 2026 11:47:06
PSG took advantage because their chief executive is on the board of Ligue 1, no doubt he filled a few pockets with non consecutive unmarked readies to make this happen, in a brown envelope of course. As is tradition with these things. Not that it matters, Slot's incompetence will get us knocked out regardless of whether they played or not that weekend.
28 Mar 2026 15:53:45
WD40, you'd want to go to Specsavers then, mate. Not only does rescheduling help them in the Champions League, but it also gives them more time to prepare for a domestic game during a title race. How do you not see an issue with that? It's corrupt.
End of. They might not be breaking rules, but they're benefitting from an incredible level of favouritism that puts them at a huge advantage both domestically and in Europe. It's a complete joke. If Lens asked for a reschedule I bet they wouldn't get it.
26 Mar 2026 11:54:00
Thoughts on summer signings?
For me
Ins:
Harry Wilson on a free.
Minteh
Gordon
Schlotterbeck
Wharton
Barrios (Atletico Madrid)
Out:
Gakpo
Macallister
Salah.

26 Mar 2026 14:12:15
Harry Wilson? He wasn't good enough when he left, and that still remains the case. He is having an excellent season, alright, but he is nowhere near the level of player we should be looking at.
26 Mar 2026 15:13:03
Agree with Robbie, I would rather have Harvey as an option than Harry Wilson - Wilson is OK, but Elliot is better both as an AM and RW.
I've liked Minteh for around 18m now, and he is growing into his early promise. Would still lean towards Diomande than Minteh, on balance, I think he has a higher bar.
26 Mar 2026 15:50:34
Is Harvey better than Harry Wilson though?
{Ed025's Note - not for me..
26 Mar 2026 18:48:24
In my view, and I've seen much more of Harvey in previous seasons than Harry, I would say most definitely.
Harvey has much more pressing in my view, and that's not Harry's game, from what I have seen. We will need to build his confidence back, though, after languishing for the last season.
Harry is better at set pieces, but we already have that covered with Dom.
I would love to see Harvey back, probably as first rotation rather than a starter as I see his best position in the Wirtz role, and he's nowhere near that.
Also Harvey is 6 years younger and would probably cost less in wages (as he's not coming to us on a free).
26 Mar 2026 21:53:39
Wilson has probably the best left foot in the league and can pull out a cracker or two. I like the two players but if I was playing a final 2moro and had to pick one it'd be Wilson.
27 Mar 2026 11:52:57
Minteh & Gordon are underwhelming, to say the least. End product isn't their strong point, just a pair of headless chickens running about aimlessly. Not at all sold on Wharton either.
If, as it seems, we miss out on Champions League football, we'll have a very reduced budget and will probably be back to taking punts on dross like we did with Assaidi, Borini & Allen.
27 Mar 2026 12:40:40
Why does it seem we'll miss out, Victor? Are we not in the spots as it stands? Who would you go for this summer, Victor?
28 Mar 2026 17:20:31
I'd be very disappointed if that was our window, we'd be right back to battling for 4th again next season. Minteh and Gordon are not the level we need, definitely not top of my list, not even close. Wharton gets the nod, I'd rather have Bastoni over Schlotterbeck, but would be pretty happy with either.
Viktor, completely agree. Not up to par. We've already been warned not to expect big money spending this summer. Seems the club is already preparing us for the possibility of not qualifying, which means they've fully accepted the possibility, absolutely insane, nothing short of disgraceful.
28 Mar 2026 19:16:35
Very simple Florian. We don't win many games. The so called "easier games" against the likes Wolves, Spurs & Brighton we took a measly one point out of and there's no reason to think we'll get any more against Fulham, United, Chelsea, Villa, Everton, Palace and Brentford.
You're delusional if you think otherwise. Who I want us to sign is irrelevant fact is that without champions league football there will be a reduced budget and it's been widely reported that there will be no repeat of last summer, so it will be back to the dross.

Read something today on BBC I found interesting. Three of the top 6 in Chelsea, Villa and Lfc are in the bottom five for distance ran this season. Chelsea have been outran in every single league game. Only two of the top 6 are in the top 5 for distance covered in Man City and Arsenal.
Leeds are actually 2nd for distance covered. When Liverpool won the league last year, they were 16th in the table for distance covered but only Spurs, Newcastle and Bournemouth done more sprints than us.

I think it's a case of a lot of teams trying to copy Man City's pass pass pass style of play over the last few years. It works grand when u have world class players all over the pitch, like City had for a long number of years.
When lesser teams do it, it just a v poor watch. Just a pity Klopp's LFC didn't get the upper hand over City as I think teams would've copied that style, far, far better to watch.
26 Mar 2026 10:32:15
Yeh agree with that, Digger. Man City also had real blistering pace on the wings for that cutting edge. Klopp's team certainly got the better of City in head to heads, just not over full seasons. Maybe that's why Klopp went away from that way of playing.
28 Mar 2026 17:31:53
Worth noting that the Arsenal and City are doing the legwork and still in form, whilst us, Chelsea and Villa are all struggling. I don't take much from distance covered as a stat, by itself alone, it doesn't mean anything, as it depends entirely on the style of play. What does concern me is when you see a low stat for distance covered coupled with the fact that the team is clearly unfit for most of the season.
If we're not running on the pitch, we damn sure better be putting in the work off it, and it's obvious we're not. That's beyond unacceptable.

Lewis Steele on Twitter is suggesting that Yan Diomande, Bradley Barcola and Michael Olise are on our shortlist, albeit that Olise is considered too expensive right now (probably due to a contract until 2029).
Looking at various other articles online, Diomande could be around half the price of Olise, and Leipzig were interested in Harvey Elliot last summer, so that sounds quite promising.
I guess it depends on how the next manager wants us to play, but Diomande's two-footedness is certainly an attraction.
If we can get £60m+ for Gakpo, then Diomande and Barcola coming in as first choice LW and RW, with Rio as a backup on the left and Frimpong as backup on the right seems like a winning combo.

26 Mar 2026 10:33:17
I like Barcola and Diomande. I think they're both perfect wingers for us. They will work hard, get at the full backs, put dangerous balls across the 6 yard box and chip in with goals too. Fingers crossed, although that sounds like at least a £150m outlay on two players!
I think with the signing of Jacquet secured and the impending departure of Salah, two wingers need to be the focus this summer.
I'd also like Wharton if Mac Allister goes. Unless the new manager wants to play without wingers, but if it is Alonso, I believe he favours a 4-3-3, in spite of the fact he played a 3-4-2-1 at Leverkusen.
26 Mar 2026 10:47:37
Looks like at least 2 wingers will be out the door in Salah nd Chiesa. And then there's also talk of Gakpo going, so we'll need that same number coming in. An expensive summer ahead. I suppose it was always on the cards. We've neglected strenghtening the wingers much over the last 8 years or so.
Xabi, if he ends up at LFC next season, switches between a back 3 and 4, does he? We'd be ok with Frimpong and Kerkez in a 3, which is something, with Dom and Wirtz behind a striker.
26 Mar 2026 15:29:55
I've got a feeling it's Diomande for right wing & either Gordon or Rogers for left.
26 Mar 2026 15:51:44
Is Diomande better on the left or right wing?
26 Mar 2026 20:56:49
He plays more left, but he can play both & is strong with both feet, so ideal on either side to go on outside or to cut in.

Sad to see the news about John Toshack being diagnosed with dementia. More research needed on the link of heading the ball and dementia.

SK, very sad news. I don't know the full stats of ex players getting dementia and the average Joe, and what also needs to be taken into account is the average age of death vs both groups too, to see if the ex players are living longer because of their jobs and fitness levels compared to the general public.
I am not a doctor or anything, but I would guess as you age you do get more chances of getting dementia.
26 Mar 2026 14:54:34
People talking about Sadio, Bobby and Mo as the best LFC front three ever, but I would like to say these three were not bad, Toshack, Keagan and Highway, happy memories watching them play.

Could be a real changing of the guard this season end.
Salah going.
Robbo probably going.
Virg - Maybe will go?
That's all the real old guard of the Klopp era, which has been my favourite of my life. Being an 1983 kid, I missed the best of the 70s / 80s (can't remember until around 87 / 88) and lived through the hellish times that came thereafter.
We really need some characters to come in the door and live up to the past, can't wait to see what the new team shapes into next season, with the right coach this could be a team that dominates for a long time to come.

No more Dutch players pls.
25 Mar 2026 22:22:17
Well I'd hate to lose VVD or Gravenberch. Gakpo was very good last year. All 3 played a massive part in securing a very very rare Premier League title for us. Frimpong was a bargain buy.
The Dutch hate is ridiculous. How about no more Spanish players after Thiago, Moreno, Aspas, etc, all failed.
25 Mar 2026 22:30:04
Have had some terrific Dutch players.
25 Mar 2026 23:05:35
I think you touch on an interesting point. The decline in Dutch football over the last 15 years is very real.
Some fantastic talents used to come out of the Eredivisie, particularly attacking players. How many noteworthy talents have there been in recent years? De Jong, maybe? The majority have flopped in the big leagues.
I don't know if it is this Dutch trend of not training that is stalling the development of their players.
The Dutch have also regressed stylistically. They no longer practise Total Football. All their managers seem to be obsessed with this slow passing it around in a horseshoe shape.
