If what is being said is true very sad news about Sala the cardiff signing being on the missing plane. Thoughts go out to his family.

{Ed025's Note - it does not look good mate..

Praying for a miracle somehow and they are OK somewhere. Seemed a genuinely nice fella looking forward to his dream of playing in the prem. Must be horrible for his family and friends. Thoughts with them today. YNWA.

If we have 4 players rotating for the front 3 positions they all play 3 out of 4 games
Subject to injuries etc
Would all players be happy with that
They can't play every game.
My only worry for next season is we are quite predictable in the way we play would like the odd surprise to freshen things up.

It can be done. But there a couple of issues that need to be overcome:

For it to work, we have to get someone who's basically speaking, as good as the three we have. Some potential targets might think: "hang on, Salah, Mane and Firmino are already there. Will I really be given a shot at nailing down a first team place in my preferred position? Or will I be in one game and out the next and not be given a good run of consecutive starts unless one of them is unavailable? ". So that makes it harder to get a player with both the right ability and right attitude.

But let's say despite that, we get the right player, and for a while it goes fine. But then we have a Champions League knockout against Juve or crucial league match against Man City where we're going to play our strongest XI with no exceptions, and all 4 are fully fit and available. Who drops out?

tl;dr over the season, there's a good chance one of the four will probably feel like he's backup.

Good players will want to start pretty much every game they're fit for (particularly in the PL and CL), not 2/ 3rds or 3/ 4s of them. Look at Sane at Man City - 29 starts and 14 sub apps between the league and Champions League. That's a fair bit of rotation into the team, and the sort of game time our fourth man might end up getting, but he's reportedly unhappy.

I don't have a simple solution to this, btw, having quality backup / rotation options without also having unhappy £60m subs is a "fun" one for Klopp to sort out. There'll have to be some flexibility from any attacking player we sign, unless one of the front three leaves.

Should also say, Shaq and Origi delivered when needed at points this season, so we're not entirely devoid of quality outside the first XI.

2.) 09 Jun 2019 11:36:56
Predictable how? We were fairly predictable this season. Every team knew what they would be up against yet it was only one team that managed to beat us in the league.

3.) 09 Jun 2019 11:54:15
I get that players my mother be happy. But it hasn't stopped players moving to clubs where the are other established players. Take City for example, do ya reckon they would give back their titles in exchange for players who are happy riding the bench?

4.) 09 Jun 2019 11:55:28
It’s not 4 players for 3 places though is it, it’s currently 5 for 3 and 6 for 3 if A. N. Other is also signed?
I haven’t seen anything of Brewster so I can’t comment on him at all. Origi we’re all happy with.
I’d love someone like Pepe but I don’t think it’s going to happen.
FSG will spend big but only where there’s a dire need and you’d have to admit that front 3 is not in that situation.

5.) 09 Jun 2019 12:05:00
Quite simply, if we are going to challenge on all fronts we need to strengthen. If we are happy to sacrifice the League and FA cup, in order to focus on the League and the Champions League, then we are fine as we are. Personally, I'd like to see us go as far as we can in every competition. The game we lost to wolves in the FA cup springs to mind; how we don't have the quality within the squad to rest our key players.

6.) 09 Jun 2019 12:26:04
All the best teams and players are predictable they're just so good you can't stop them anyway and it's that that makes it feel inevitable 1 team is going to win before the game starts and hopefully gives you the advantage before you've even stepped onto the pitch and then when you score first the opponent is crushed because for them it feels like 2-0.

7.) 09 Jun 2019 12:34:04
I'm not sure there's an easy solution to this issue. Players want to play every game these days and probably benefit from playing as much as possible - if a player finds himself a bit out of form then I reckon the best way to get that back is to play every game and not get benched. I certainly wouldn't advocate spending massive money on a player for the bench. Our best bet here is for Brewster to be as good as we've all heard and for him to actually start to get some appearances for the first team.

8.) 09 Jun 2019 12:46:29
I think we would all like more olayers
Its been well documented that a big money signing to sit on the bench is unlikely
My comment was would klopp look to rotate the feont 3.
The squad is good we were unlucky against wolves
Lovren got injured in first cpl mins and we olayed the kid against
Wolves full strength we only lost 2-1
The weaker links have gone and will be replaced for more reliable players
We sold solanke and studge has gone be interesting to see what type of player comes in
Brewster could be joker in the oack.

9.) 09 Jun 2019 12:51:11
Having faith in the younger players ie Brewster Wilson etc to get the level needed by giving them a chance to prove.

{Ed002's Note - Wilson is keaving

10.) 09 Jun 2019 14:11:55
It is complicated as others have said. It has to be a player that can cover the front 3 and the 4 could all play together. Like Brandt (gone Dortmund) or Fekir. Reus is outstanding and would fit the brief but has had a lot of fitness issues in the past. These solutions drop Shaq and Keita down the list as well.

Thanks very much ed002 for all the info over the last couple of days.

11.) 09 Jun 2019 16:50:24
You think Fab is a starter just because there is nobody else to replace him? Seriously?

He started out slow, got his head around the system and Klopps preferred playing style and what was expected on him and worked his way onto the team sheet. In the last 3rd of the season he was the best midfield player we had, he's a fantastic player and is now first name on the team sheet. Maybe if we drop £70-80 mil to fill his space he will be happy sitting on the bench? What an odd observation.

12.) 09 Jun 2019 17:50:21
First midfielder* on the team sheet that is, before I get the obvious replies.

13.) 09 Jun 2019 21:17:40
Becker what are you talking about? What an odd reply?

Fabinho is in as he is the only quality holding midfield player in the squad and he is a dam good one. No way first name on team sheet though.

14.) 10 Jun 2019 02:57:56
I don't agree with this idea of players for rotation. Rotation should only be used if lack of form or fatigue occur. Salah wants to start every game, mane and firmino too. Aside from the rare injury there's hardly been need for them to be rested for more than a game or 2 over the last 2 seasons, including full European campaigns. If they are fit and performing well they start every week. Harmful to players and the team to rotate regularly for the sake of it. We see rotation in midfield, but that is simply down to similar players performing at similar levels. We can't be expected to sign a forward who will guarantee the levels salah and mane provide and simply rotate without harm.

The way this season is going and the points top teams are amassing
If we can get through the next 2 games and still remain on top we will have a great chance
We will only have spurs and chelski to play at home and the mancs away.
The other teams will all take points off each other that's how the season has panned out.

scouseapna

{Ed0333's Note - I didn’t realize we only have to play teams in the top 4 twice after the City game that is deffo a positive, I fancy our chances against anyone at home. United away will be tough seeing as their new bookies favorites for the Champions League trophy with their new found scintillating form. I’m very confident scouseapna we will navigate our formidable red armada through the seas of North London and the blue half of Manchester and reign supreme going into 2019.

The win against Arsenal and the pressure on City now notches up. Many years ago rugby had a character called Micky Skinner who quoted "forwards win matches, backs decide by how much" - you can turn that around to say "defenders win matches, forwards decide by how much" - the defence is insanely good right now and whilst there is still room for improvement I cannot see them throwing games away. It sure helps having a goalkeeper you trust even though he has Bruce moments! just adds to the entertainment.

Gents Sit back and see how far we have come in the last 3 years, a so called selling club but more i think we couldn't keep hold of good players who moved on to win things.
Klopp has bought well and improved the existing players he inherited.
The football being played is awesome
And we are now attracting the biggest names.
Fekir may or may not happen? maybe XS can fit in due to the price he seems to have go under the radar
Also Brewster may get a few chances he could be the joker in the pack for us.
Getting the kids into the squad takes so much pressure off means we not having to buy cover players. TAA being prime example
But we always want more, I still think we need the No 9 fwd jus to mix things up when we face 10 men behind the ball
Maybe solanke / origi can step up
We certainly moving rapidly in the right direction
Just need that bit of luck and the silverware
Will follow.

Its the fine balance of promoting youth to help boost the squad can work like with Trent, gomez
I’d be happy to give Harry a go in out squad, be interesting to get views on what his value would be if we cashed in
Solanke £20m ish surely Harry would be a fair bit more.
If he took llalanas place say would that be such a bad thing.

Think we are missing the Ox attacking midfielder linking with the front 3
Could shaquiri fit into that role he sems to have a good work rate.
Can we affors to go more attacking given that the defence and goalie looks much more solid.

Things are looking a lot better will take a bit of time to settle into the best first team formation. We looked ropey yesterday in the 2nd half you could sense Leicester putting more pressure on us. definitely work in progress hopefully
Will be better against spurs
Nice to see back on here Salah you are a great objective poster.

Game could have been better
We scored 2 but another day that could easily have been
5. May take a couple of games for the boys to get back
Into the swing of things following the holidays and world cup.
