It's sounding like Sterling stays for now as we haven't received a bid at the level FSG want to sell. Similar to Suarez the season before he went for a higher fee. I'll get shot down for this but the owners know what they're doing.

Gomez sounds quite likely, Clyne fairly likely, Kovacic so so. Good to see we're being active early in the window.

Sterling will go, when we get the optimum deal.

This "LFC don't know what they're doing" mantra trotted out by posters on a daily basis is very black and white.

We have been following a strategy of investing in mainly young players for more than 3 years now while simultaneously getting the clubs finances in shape, putting more performance based clauses into contracts and pushing on with stadium expansion plans. Our average finishing position across those 3 seasons is slightly above the average of the previous 3 seasons (progress). Last season we would have achieved par (5th) based on price of average starting XI and wages but for the players chucking it in.

I won't get into the whole Rodgers thing because he's staying so I'll support him.

On transfers we clearly have a plan as Milner & Bogdan have replaced Gerrard & Jones (net positive for me) and Ings signed for a little more than we've got in for Aspas. So far so good?

We will get money for Sterling, Coates, Borini & Lambert (c45m) so if we sign Clyne, Kovacic/Firmino & an experienced striker (lower fee, high wages) I'd say we will have had a good window.

Surely Lallana, Markovich, Markovich & Moreno will be better for a full season at the club/in the FAPL and Can, Ibe & Origi are all ridiculously young and will hopefully train on.

I'd expect a much better fight for 4th (as a minimum) next season.

If you can't be positive before a ball is kicked when can you be?

6 new signings by your estimation then? I forsee another season of 'waiting for the new players to bed in' then. I really can't fathom why on his 7th window in Rodgers is still making potentially 6+ transfers. It's just ridiculous- he must have signed and tried to sell more players since he's been here than other manager or team in the PL surely?

How can Ings replace Aspas ? when Aspas was on loan last year ?

5.) 18 Jun 2015 10:59:57
RDL - most clubs will sign 4-6 players but they aren't all expected to be first picks. Are you saying we don't need at least three players to strengthen our starting XI? And others to replace departures?

Man Utd signed Di Maria, Rojo, Shaw, Herrera, Blind, Falcao & Valdes and managed to improve their finishing position considerably? Southampton replaced half their side and did likewise.

New players don't necessarily mean a season of transition.

And GoanRed - read my post. I didn't say replace Aspas. I'm talking about money in/out.

Lucho7 might be referring to amortisation of transfers that used to be partly based on contract term? However, this is no longer the case as I believe amortisation is limited to 5 years regardless of contract?
Transfers are just one part of the overall FFP calculations, of course.

Blimey, this thread has got a little rancorous. Just like the good old days!
Liverpool has picked up a reputation for sailing close to the wind over several years and Klopp seems to be continuing that trend. Naughty, naughty. However, singling out LFC and its fans for special treatment is not really fair. When compared to several top-flight continental European teams, Liverpool is relatively clean. Relatively. And as for Chelsea.
This is hardly the most heavily regulated industry in the world and is dominated by individual owners whose staggering wealth has been almost always been gathered by questionable means, assisted by dodgy advisers, agents and others.
I would suggest we move on from this subject and focus on the tiny nuggets of reality amongst the torrent of transfer speculation.
And "done deals", of course.
Cheers.

Good to hear from you Macca.
I completely agree about BR. He's still young and is more likely to learn and adapt than a short-stay older manager. An experienced DOF could provide him with the right challenge to bring him along. I doubt that we could get anyone better at this point anyway and we would go backwards before going forwards if we did. Again. Is there a realistic chance we could get Klopp? Hmmm.

Statistically, wage bills are the best predictor of where you end up in the division so BR actually overachieved last season.

BR does need help with transfer targets but it was very clear that he was not in favour of MB. I'm not sure his transfers have been any worse (or better) than under previous managers. The fees are higher but that's true across the Premiership.

I also think Milner would be a good acquisition. He brings energy, drive and experience of playing for a team at the very top. Quite different from Lambert.

We need better competition in goal, central defence and up front. Most importantly, the ground redevelopment and more merchandising sales to get that wage bill up.
