Hi eds, I was wondering how jack Robinson was getting on? How highly rated was he when at Liverpool I remember their seemed to be some promise at one point.

ollymeadows

{Ed001's Note - he missed most of last season through an ACL injury.}

Ed01 i was just wondering what you thought of jonjo shelvey? Do you think he would ever have made it at liverpool in time or was it a good decision to let him go?

ollymeadows

{Ed001's Note - I don't think he was good enough, though he does have a good attitude. When you compare him to other players, mentioning no names of bewigged English internationals with a similar weight problem that just carry on with being pounds overweight eating kebabs and smoking, Shelvey realised there was an issue and hired himself a dietician and a chef to prepare the right types of food. He works hard, on the training ground as well as the pitch, and will be a good player, but he is not going to be top class for me.}

Loved him myself. Think he'd walk into our team. Hoped he would of been future captain.

2.) 18 Oct 2015 14:51:11
Olly I think he will be top class if he gets the right coaching.

3.) 18 Oct 2015 15:02:12
I don't think he will ever have the mobility to be the best but there is nothing wrong with getting the most out of your game. A lesson for everyone.

4.) 18 Oct 2015 15:28:07
Shelves was a decent player that needed games to grow. he wasn't going to get that for lfc. Stevie seemed to have great admiration for him and I think he saw a bit of himself in jonjo. Strong in the tackle decent passing range and even though shelves had his mental lapses he never shyed away. You only have to look at his Swansea games vs us for the 2-2 where after 2 howlers he still wanted to be in the field and was involved in the swans 2 goals. he always worked hard in training when you hear from former players as carra, suarez etc.

It's a shame that in that deep role england will always pick jack wilshere who offers nothing as a deep lying playmaker in passing range or tackle.

5.) 18 Oct 2015 15:46:57
For every good thing he does he makes a mistake and his head drops too easily for me. He has a great passing range but likes the Hollywood ball a bit too much but it can work. The thing I always disliked for us is the fact he is over 6ft but could never challenge sufficiently aerially for me.

6.) 18 Oct 2015 16:37:31
Always felt if you could have moulded him and Henderson you would have had a top class player.

Cheers.

7.) 18 Oct 2015 18:21:39
Ed01, disagree there. He is a far better passer of FOOTBALL Than Milner + Can put together.
But I would play Rossitter ahead of Shelvey.

{Ed001's Note - not sure how that is relevant or how that is disagreeing with me as I never said anything to the contrary? Sometimes I wonder about people like you, who just seem to be trying deliberately to pick a fight for no reason other than your own inability to read. Shelvey can be an excellent passer of the ball, but he is prone to turning the ball over trying to make an impossible hollywood pass when there is a better option. Plus he lacks pace and his positioning defensively is awful. Then there are his idiotic rush of bloods that see him get carded for no real reason. All of those things are why he is not and never will be top class.}

8.) 18 Oct 2015 21:13:14
Shelvey looks good on match of the day highlights but for me he simply does not have a good football brain. He plays the wrong ball way to often. As a result he gives the ball away too much by trying passes that simply aren't on. I still don't think he is worth the money Swansea paid for him!

Ed001 you said before you didn't believe we had been using allen correctly when played, how do you think he is best utilized as i didn't catch much of him during his time at swansea

ollymeadows

{Ed001's Note - I don't think he is suited to us, but at Swansea he was at the centre of everything. It was just about getting the ball and playing it simple, quick and concise short passing. They focused on possession in the midfield, then looking for balls to the wingers when they drew out the defence. Allen was one of those that just kept it ticking over until the opponents closed on him. He had a very similar player alongside him, in Britton, a lot of the time, so they could just keep it simple until space opened up to play in a wideman. We have tended to use Coutinho as our focus point, rather than the centre of midfield.}

1.) 24 Jul 2015 15:55:55
Allen's problem is he doesn't show himself for the ball enough. He needs to be the one who comes deep for the ball, passes it, wants it back. But instead, he's always too high up the pitch and ineffective. I thought he would have taken on the playmaker role in preseason, but unfortunately he still hasn't come up trumps.

2.) 24 Jul 2015 16:12:05
Allen should be replaced with Kovacic and should be played alongside a top class DM. We would then look stable.

3.) 24 Jul 2015 17:09:26
Your talking to brick walls European

Our midfield is too much of the sane.

You have one of milber and hwrnderson and if you want to play Lucas then you have to have a creator in there.

Lucas, kovacic and henderson/milner

Well that starts looking promising

Where one away in the middle of the park to having a really good midfield. The club identified that and went for maateo but when that didn't come off, did the problem resolve itself or does it still need addressing

That's what gets to me

No points aving a stunning attack, great gk (although we haven't) and a fantastic defence and nothing in the middle.

Maestro

I have been crying all season for the one central midfielder and received abuse and disagree on my view.

Schniderline ll prove the difference where UTD will finish next season.

Kovacic is very similar to Carzola. We just missed the signing of the season.

Allen, Lucas , Henderson and Milner, none could dictate a game from the midfield.

We don't have the creative spark in the middle and again will depend on Countinho to drop deep.

5.) 24 Jul 2015 18:36:54
EG cazorla is not similar to kovacic

6.) 25 Jul 2015 00:30:52
Just all go back to the original post - Allen played in a team a particular way - we bought him and do not play him that way.

Adding any player what makes you think they will be a success / show their current form if they are not played in the position / system that suits them?

Any signing is a risk if we do not play them to their or the teams strengths. also don't play to their strengths and don't expect to get a decent return when selling them - hence why we will struggle to get the money we want for at least five players this transfer window (and Balotelli who we should never of bought)!

Ed1 I saw you say other teams were interested in Kelly? Just wondering who they were

ollymeadows

{Ed001's Note - Villa, West Ham and Spurs showed interest in the summer.}

Has anyone noticed how Pascoe has started doing a lot more interviews? Is this eds anything to do with the owners being fed up of rodgers putting his foot in his mouth repeatedly?

ollymeadows

{Ed002's Note - No, it was him running a League Cup game.}

This would seem out of the blue. I think the only minuscule link Liverpool have with him are ed2 suggesting him as a viable option if Salah were to leave. Certainly cannot seeing that in jan, we are all for squad depth but it seems footy manager overkill to say the least. One annoyed face at a below average performance from mo and the papers go wild.

Eds how come we cannot say that no club can sell aswell as buy with the new window changes?

ollymeadows

{Ed001's Note - I have no idea why the rules are so confused. There will be lots more players letting their contracts expire so they can pick their moves and get more money. It is either that or we will see someone challenge the ruling under restraint of trade. Sadly this is all to benefit the big clubs over the small clubs as usual.}
