The Guardian reporting that Benfica have agreed the sale of Nunez for €80m plus add-on €20m to LFC.

1.) 11 Jun 2022 18:24:12
Yes Paul Joyce has just said we are 8M apart I’m valuations. So it is clearly not in anyway done deal. Seems to be dragging on now.

2.) 11 Jun 2022 18:33:40
Amazing how some only believe negative journalism.

3.) 11 Jun 2022 19:01:10
Dragging on? It’s almost as if a €100 million transfer isn’t as simple as popping down the shops for a loaf of bread.

4.) 11 Jun 2022 19:45:21
Why hasn’t it happened at the speed I deem fit? Surely I am the judge of how fast or slow a transfer of this size should be?

Stupid FSG, can’t believe they are doing it again, even though they haven’t ever got it wrong so far!

5.) 11 Jun 2022 20:06:27
They sure as hell get it wrong giving Rodgers funds for Balloteli.

6.) 11 Jun 2022 20:13:05
Obviously we have a price in mind and will not pay over the odds

This may drag on, hopefully we won't walk away but you never know.

7.) 11 Jun 2022 20:20:06
It’s a new guy doing the deals so who knows how it’ll work out.

8.) 11 Jun 2022 20:35:44
It’s a new guy?

It’s not a chippy. They’re pretty good at this.

And as to the above poster referencing Ballotelli, think you’ll find Rodgers was dead against signing Mario. You might be thinking to Benteke.

9.) 11 Jun 2022 19:51:22
In fairness I will always believe a report which suggests we are £Xm less than a team wants… So according to the report we are at £60m they want £68m and Ward is over there to close the deal. Interesting transfer, lots of potential, but no way the finished article, so a big price and gamble.

But then I thought Bobby was shocking when he arrived at a huge price for us at the time and that hasn’t been too bad.

10.) 11 Jun 2022 21:29:12
I was simply alluding to Julian ward doing business. He might be all about the slow negotiations. It could drag on for a while. We don’t know. We haven’t seen how he does business. Traditionally we haven’t been great at doing deals. Namely tapping up players before offering a low offer and generally making a bad name for ourselves. So it might drag on but if it’s a good deal for both clubs and before preseason- I’m happy.

11.) 11 Jun 2022 22:10:05
Balloteli was Rodgers's choice. I can't remember the biography I read it in. He was desperate for a striker and that's who he plumped for.
We've come a long way from those dark dismal days.

12.) 11 Jun 2022 22:29:18
There was no such thing as 'Rogers' choice since we buy - and bought by committee. A week before the transfer he told a press conference we were '100%' not interested in Ballotelli. A month after he was sacked, he said live on Sky Sports: ' I think with Mario they were maybe thinking here's a guy we can get in for £16m and sell for £50m'

Maybe it was Stephen Hendry's autobiography you were reading?

13.) 11 Jun 2022 22:41:34
Absolutely.

Rodgers was livid we signed Mario.

He did, however, go against advice and insist we signed Benteke, who was rubbish.

14.) 12 Jun 2022 09:49:54
FSG don’t scout or select the players. Transfers can take time, if you look back at ed002’s previous posts, you’ll see how complicated the processes can be.

According to Will Unwin in the Observer, in an article about Thiago and Keita, Thiago is considering settling in the area when he retires. If he can keep fit we may be enjoying his skills for some years to come.

1.) 25 Apr 2022 12:34:31
Why would here choose over here rather than back in Barcelona? Just being honest guys but I know where I'd rather live and it's not even close!

2.) 25 Apr 2022 13:04:48
Ha, I don't believe that for a second.

{Ed001's Note - actually he loves it in Liverpool, he is always out and about round town with his missus and kids.}

3.) 25 Apr 2022 16:50:33
I don't live in Liverpool but am always blown away how nice the city is when coming for games (stayed over a couple times as well) .
Would 200% live there.

4.) 25 Apr 2022 17:52:02
Liverpool is a great City there’s only one thing that let's the city down. They normally wear blue and rhymes with hitters. If it weren’t for that lot Liverpool would be paradise on earth.

5.) 25 Apr 2022 20:43:18
My daughter goes to the same school as his kids and you see a lot of footballers stick around and it's good for the kids / family. Plus he does seem happy here. Lovely guy btw and one of the few approachable players.

6.) 26 Apr 2022 02:09:36
I think he lives in Formby doesn’t he Mike? I saw him there once anyway but he could have been visiting his mate Firmino who lives in a nice house near the beach.

7.) 26 Apr 2022 08:17:19
I can’t wait to come to the city I stay overnight every time I come to the match.
My daughter is at uni there she absolutely love the city and she does not drink so it’s not just because she is young and there is good night life.
I all ways find the people very friendly.

8.) 26 Apr 2022 09:59:30
Jan Molby still lives near me. I think he took a liking to the Tavern Club in New Brighton, which is why he stayed.

9.) 26 Apr 2022 10:59:09
Stoneage, I don't think he lives in Formby as the school is in Cheshire and he's there quite a lot. Seems to be mostly the Brazilians who live that way. Thiago is arguably Brazilian too ofc but he seems to have followed the majority of other players.

10.) 26 Apr 2022 19:10:59
I’ve seen some insta pictures of him at Mere Brow and the Pumpkin Farm n’r Burscough last year, I’m sitting there thinking I only live 2 miles away he’s been to more local attractions than me 🤣.

It’s a nice area around there to be fair and I guess as long as schools are good and you find a good home (Guessing Formby) then the 3 days of sunshine a year is just bonus 🤣.

11.) 26 Apr 2022 19:44:17
Babity Rabitty and Mftonjes, cos you don’t think Liverpool is a great spot to settle in for the long term doesn’t mean others think the same as as you do. Just saying.

I have read a load of rubbish on this these pages today. You would think we were in Everton's place and just avoided relegation. The number of posters who think LFC need a complete overhaul of the way the club plays and we need a top class striker is ridiculous. Of the top 6 scoring premier goal scorers 3 were from Liverpool. We need midfielders that can score goals but can also cover for the our attacking full backs.

Wirralean

1.) 29 May 2022 18:28:12
OP, it’s the same ol’ schtick each time we don’t win. Spoiled brat/ self entitled mentality really. I’m over it, tbh.

2.) 29 May 2022 18:44:21
It's really off putting.

The Live Chat is usually terrible if we're not winning and dominating the game. I'm not going to bother with it any more, as it gets far too toxic and then played off as 'banter'.

3.) 29 May 2022 18:57:38
This summer we just need evolution, so Darwin is the one we should go for.
That's my theory anyway.

4.) 29 May 2022 19:04:06
To call posters opinions rubbish, self entitled and what not because they offer a different take to yours is slightly immature. I have learnt in life it’s okay to differ in opinions, plus you will probably live longer that way. But hey, that’s just my… opinion 🤷‍♂️.

5.) 29 May 2022 19:17:46
I think the top class striker is in reply to Mane leaving. For me personally If Mane stays then our forwards are good for next season. But Salah and Bobby could also be going. Both have said they are staying but ultimately it’ll be the clubs decision as they won’t want either to go on a free in 12 months time.

Whether people say we need a new striker or we don’t has zero effect on what the club actually does (which might come as a surprise to some)

It’s a site for all opinions whether people are throwing their toys or being optimistic it’s their opinions, I personally enjoy reading everyone’s thoughts on here and if everyone thought the exact same then I probably wouldn’t visit as frequently.

6.) 29 May 2022 19:39:37
Alonso spot on mate 👏.

Makes you wonder why some force themselves through the pain to come on here.

7.) 29 May 2022 19:40:14
If Sadio Mane leaves then a replacement is coming.
And fans are discussing who to replace him with on the transfer rumours website 😂.

8.) 29 May 2022 19:50:10
It's good to see jk23 mate you can now see a bigger picture 😂.

9.) 29 May 2022 20:13:07
It was an ok season. Not great, great would be winning the league or champions league.

We fell short of winning the two biggest prizes because of an overall lack of quality which cost us. To go toe to toe with City you have to be flawless, which we weren’t. As for Real Madrid we lacked any variety up front and only really tested Courtois on a few occasions.

And now the season is over we have to look forward and it’s not particularly great at the moment. One of our consistent top scorers is leaving, the other is probably leaving.

Our midfield needs some freshening up, Henderson is not getting younger, Ox keeps breaking down, Milner looks his age, Keita is too unreliable and injury prone, Thiago is a superb player but has fitness issues, it and when Fabinho is out, we look weak through the middle.

Also, compared to our rivals, we simply don’t have the spending power to keep up, City have lashed out the thick end of £50m on Haaland and will look to buy another centre midfielder and full back, so they’re going to be pumping out £150-200m and they’re already in front of us. Chelsea, United, Spurs and Arsenal are all going big to catch up, while it looks like we’re dithering.

We’ve already missed out on one summer target as he was deemed too expensive (Tchouameni) and I just have this nagging feeling that when we do eventually sell Salah and Mane, we won’t be going for top class replacements, but will go for something cheap and nasty like Dembele and Traore in attack and then not spend anything on midfield as we’ll “make do”. Call that negative if you want, but it’s not far from reality.

10.) 29 May 2022 20:19:17
To be fair a top goal scorer could put some chances away. We create so many and end up loosing or drawing.
Love the team and club but all teams move on and try and progress why can't we?

11.) 29 May 2022 20:24:52
Spot on Harry 🙈😂😂.

12.) 29 May 2022 20:34:18
There's a bigger picture?

13.) 29 May 2022 20:39:18
How can it be not far from reality when it hasn't happened yet, VVVV?

14.) 29 May 2022 20:54:19
Yes which most of our fans fail to see, they were even happy couple of days back to let Salah and Mane go for free but should stay even if it's for One season. I was like wtf? 🤷.

15.) 29 May 2022 21:14:42
Kopforever when didn’t I see this bigger picture mate.

I’ve never mentioned Salah and Mane leaving on a free. I’ve always said I’d be happy to keep all 3 of Mane, Salah and Bobby for a couple more years at least and if one had to go my choice would be Bobby.

If we’re selling Salah for 25 mill though like Mane reported I’m not sure if he’s worth more to the club keeping for next season.

I’m sure Klopp will have the answers though.

16.) 29 May 2022 21:34:48
Keeping bobby and Mane few more yrs? 🙈🙈 Don't want to go on Salah mate as u know my opinion 👍.

17.) 29 May 2022 22:08:59
Kopforever as I said mate I’d be happy if they was the case. I’m not saying that’s what we should do.

Only a few players have outscored Mane this season in the league and 1 player that hasn’t is Bowen and he’d cost more than what I believe these owners will pay. Then there is Nunez who’s totally unproven in England. Last time we bought a player after impressing against us in the CL was Mino. Except that was for 8 mill and not 80.

I’m more than happy with whatever Klopp decides to do mate.

18.) 30 May 2022 01:03:41
Our season was a good season not an OK season.
There can be only 1 winner but you need to reach the finals and only 2 team in Europe do it and we were one of them.
City with all their monies were 1 goal away from being in our shoes.

But I echo your concern that our front line is not getting any younger and having them all in such contract situation is not ideal.

Midfield needs surgery though Keita ox and miler to go
Replace by ministers to Elliot jones and Carvalho.
Getting one goal scoring midfielder and a striker who can finish chances off must be the incomings at the least

Origi mane and Mina going means also need one more cover attacker maybe from youth team.

Guardian announcing Andy Robertson has signed a new 5 year contract.

Wirralean

{Ed0666's Note - yep it’s true. No one can say it’s not deserved well done Robbo what a player. Funny funny guy also great to have in the dressing room.

Earlier I read an extract from a book to be published on Thursday, in the Guardian. It was about TAA in his academy days and how he was bullied (in the best possible way) into becoming a fullback. A good read.

Wirralean

1.) 16 Aug 2021 19:26:22
He looks a physically imposing footballer now too. He’s going to have a big season too.

2.) 16 Aug 2021 20:34:21
Like many in our squad he has a lot to prove and I think he will have a top season. Hopefully his best ever.

3.) 17 Aug 2021 17:08:05
Mark, I disagree. TAA does not have a lot to prove. In fact, he has nothing left to prove to me. A lot to prove to who? The rival fans who diss him whereas if you gave many of them truth serum, they would tell you that they would rather have him on their team? The media who started this pathetic narrative saying that he is poor defensively whereas none of that is true and those being compared to him are actually no better? The pathetic Southgate who hung him out to dry just cos he was too incompetent to know what to do with such a phenomenal player?

The kid can literally retire right now at 22 as he’s already done it all with the receipts (trophies) to prove it. All the kid has to do is continue to improve and be the best he can be and never believe in his own hype. If that is him having a lot to prove then, I agree. If it is not then, you’re going to have to explain/ expand on this “lot” he needs to prove.

Is it just me but there seems to be so many experts on here regarding the finances of LFC and FSG. Not so long ago we bought VVD and AB for world record prices, who'd have thought and LFC are extending the Anfield Rd stand, which will have to be paid in stage payments. Not a sign of penury. Okay C.V. hit hard but no fan knows at this stage what the Nike deal is realising. Have the fans been buying kits for the family with their spare cash because they couldn't go to pubs etc.

VVVV some of your posts make me want to slit my throat, they are so depressing. You state as facts, that only a senior member of the organisation would know!

Only if it is spent wisely. We bought Becker for a world record at the time Chelsea bought a keeper (I won't even try to spell his name) for a world record but can't get on the pitch and had to spend a further largish sum for Mende. We bought VVD for a world record, the mancs decided to spend a world record on Maguire who would probably 4th or 5th choice for LFC.

Interesting article and a blast from the past for me. Phil Ligget was employed by the MMB when I went to work for them as a trainee accountant in 1964. He was in marketing and co-ordinated the Milk Race tour. As naive 18 year old from Heswall, I pulled him up for not returning a pool car to base over a weekend. As another coincidence I recently was working with a Rob Mcloughlin whose brother Joey was a star of cycle racing in the sixties.

A black cab should be no more than 10 - 12 pounds. Alternatively 17 bus to Fazakerley takes you to the ground and the 14 bus to Croxteth will take you to Breck Rd which is a couple of hundred yards from ground. I would suggest the easiest solution is cab to get there (as you will probably be forking out £4 or more bus) and getting a bus back into town.

AW to describe TAA as incompetent is to do him a disservice. My dictionary's definition of the word is "not sufficiently skilful to do something successfully" - which hardly describes Trent. Perhaps out of sorts/ form would be better explanation!
