I Hope England win the Euro's, because I am English and I love watching football. My passport states, Birthplace, Liverpool England.
I am old enough to remember when England failed to qualify for tournaments in the 70s and cheering Scotland on because the King played for them.
I Cheered for the Danes, because Molby was on the bench, in the 80s. Republic of Ireland, for Aldo, Houghton and Whelan. And what liverpool fan didn't want Spain to win everything in the days of Alonso and Torres.
I am not into politics. When I am watching Football, I don't care about fellow supporters views on the world. I might have been standing next to and hugging Murderers, Rapist, Wife and child abusers at matches, do I despise such people? That goes without saying.
My point is, watching football is escapism for most of us. If you don't want to support your country of birth, because you don't like the yobs, yuppies and Racist that the TV cameras Zoom in on. Look around them and you will also see normal families, watching a sport they love, cheering for something they connect with. You don't have to support England because you where born in the Country, if you feel you have no connection with the team, then support a team you connect with.
Good Luck to all the Countries left in the competition.
"Come on Henderson, bring it home to England.

I visit various team pages across this site and i must say the liverpool fans have celebrated the win the worse out of all the club pages I visit is there a reason have something happened between the nation team and liverpool or is it just that's what your fan base is like?

dio1989, look up ‘managed decline of Liverpool’ on google and you might have an idea as to the indifference and in some cases outright hostility towards any idea of ‘National unity. Maybe the question should be, why should Liverpool supporters feel affinity to the country that wanted to destroy it economically and culturally in the eighties?

3.) 30 Jun 2021 12:39:18
From my memory it started as Liverpool fans singing ‘God save out gracious team’ in the national anthem in the early 70s, graduated to full on singing of YNWA over the national anthem at cup finals, to outright booing and hostility in the 1980s.
Although the best one ever was when Brian Tillsley off Coronation Street came on for a celebrity match before the 88 or 89 cup final, did a few flick flaks and then fell over like a sack of taties at the last one.
That lightened the mood 🤣 cue various chants and Manchester references as you can imagine lol.

Nice post, Tim. All the best.

Yes this xenophobia towards their own country makes me ashamed to be a Liverpool fan. Opinions and stances stemming from forty or fifty years ago is quite embarrassing really. How could anything ever change for the better if people just want to shut themselves off from it? Inclusivity and tolerance isn’t just about hyperbole, it’s an ethos and is not just about letting people in, it’s about branching out as well.

Also the 'placism' that scousers have received and still receive from the rest of the country day in day out does not help with its affinity for the nation known as England. To go with a host of other ways in which our city has been let down over the years we fight for our city and our heritage and the hate Liverpudlians receive throughout the years is just one of the reasons a lot do not support the national team. We really are more than a city and in the most part not a part of this country not all I might add but a lot have absolved their nationality each to their own I suppose IMO their is no pride in being English anymore anyway times have changed.

My Grandad always told me as kid if Liverpool fc don’t win you want Everton fc to win as this is or city but I doubt that even holds much credence nowadays. Anyway here’s hoping they go out in the next round and if anyone in work try’s to talk to me about the shower I will swiftly walk away. Let’s go Liverpool.

Eds right, Paisley our most successful Manager started replacing players who had hit 31.Emlyn Hughes was the prime example. Club Captain, was caught out against United in the FA Cup Semi Final and never played again.
Henderson has 2yrs left on his contract, By that time his legs will be gone. I would not like fans to turn on him when his legs go, which they will. If its about money let him go.

Barnes didn't play much for 3 seasons, in the early 90s, apparently he was injured a lot under Souness? Then when Evans became manager and moved him to a midfield playmaker role he became fit again and average 35 games a season.
John Barnes was a legend, a great player for us, always looked assured and calm on the ball and his finishing was up there with John Walk.
As for not wanting him, I thought him for less than a million was great business.

Come on mate, Gini was a squad player who played a lot of games because of injuries. Keita Fabinho and Thiago were all bought in to be playing ahead of him.
Let Klopp decide in the next week if he needs to act. Hendo Fab and Thiago backed up by Keita, Milner and Jones does look weak in the holding role, but he could revert to 3 at the back in some games.
I would be happy with a fit back 3 of Virgil Konate and Joe playing a high line against any team.
I believe fans are getting carried away because United, City and Chelsea can spend more than us, but that as been the case for ten years.
I trust Klopp to keep us competitive, plus the deals that we have done in the last 5 yrs, gives me faith that we will buy the right players, so we can keep challenging for trophies.
Believe boys.

Bissouma, would be a great buy, Johnnyd.
I personally believe we will challenge for the title mate. We where so unlucky with the injuries last season, but our finish to the league of 8 wins and 2 draws gives me hope and we must not forget the 12th man at Anfield is about to come back.
I really don't care about what the other teams do. We have Klopp and he has proven that his belief in the team and his will to win brings success.
I would rather watch a Klopp team than any other Managers team Boom!
