What’s the early consensus on Mac as the 6?

Gini was an attacking midfielder and/ or winger before he joined us, but he was amazing back there.

Szobo and Gravenbach as box to box next to him looks scary going forward

Thoughts?

1.) 04 Sep 2023 19:06:09
He's doing a job, and a decent one at that, but i would prefer him to be in a position best suited to his strengths, ie more attacking.

2.) 04 Sep 2023 19:07:54
OP, he should be playing in his natural position which is further forward where his ability to find a pass will be more effective and unlock Darin and our other forwards. He should not be playing the 6 when we have a DM in Hendo and Baj fit and ready. I don't see the point, personally.

3.) 04 Sep 2023 19:13:06
Maybe in games where we're playing against a low block and going to have more possession then he can play the 6. I'd rather him be box to box so he has license to play those quick one twos he's so good at.

4.) 04 Sep 2023 19:16:57
Small sample set tbh.

He appeared to have the brains for it vs. Villa, taking up good positions to block off passing lanes and make interceptions. But he wasn't as good against Chelsea and Bournemouth in the 6 role.

Whether that's because he's been working on the tactics of the position on the training ground, or because Villa didn't test him as much is not really clear yet. We'd need him to play more games.

5.) 04 Sep 2023 20:23:59
It's not for me.

6.) 04 Sep 2023 21:04:58
Baj is not fit and ready just yet. They are rightly easing him back in. Once he’s up to speed Mac with move further forward. Endo not at the others level imo.

7.) 04 Sep 2023 21:06:17
Think Mac is a pretty intelligent footballer with tactical awareness and vision…. early sign are very promising…. not really as a 6 long term

Think we may be getting a young South American (Brazilian) in as our 6 in January.

Our Hungarian captain may be one to watch……first impressions are that he is just awesome.

8.) 04 Sep 2023 21:32:53
He’s got all the attributes to be a brilliant DM but hasn’t been playing there week in week out. If he does I think he’ll learn the position and get better and better.

Don’t forget Fabinho was a RB who transformed himself into one of the best DM’s in the world. Kompany was a DM who transformed himself into one of the best CBs in the world.

Football is littered with players that have played one position and then changed to a different position and made a success of it.

9.) 04 Sep 2023 21:59:17
To right Tommy G.
Mac is an intelligent player, he can play anywhere and succeed. In many ways he’s a Guardiola type player with that high level of intelligence. I bet Pep is gutted we’ve got him. ?

Szobo has great talent, Mac has great intelligence.

Baj and Mac in the same midfield - frightening.

10.) 04 Sep 2023 22:10:47
BP, we did not sign Macca to play DM so there's that. As for the Fab comparison is a bit off cos in his final season at Monaco, he played the DM role. As for Kompany, he came throgh the Anderlecht academy here in Brussels as a CB in his teens and played all his seasons at CB till he moved to Hamburg where he played. CB. He only played DM at City cos Mark Hughes didn't know where to put him. It was Mancini who put him back at CB.

IMO, Macca is more dangerous up the pitch. That is what we signed him for and that is where he should be playing for the most part. Now can he play the DM role in games where we will have more possession which is fine or he cn step in to do a job. No need to start shoe-horning players in positions that take away from their natural skill set just for kicks. just my take.

11.) 04 Sep 2023 22:15:54
I honestly don't think Mac Allister was bought to play the DM position. Yes, we know he can play the position and Klopp clearly likes players who can slot into various positions that give him the flexibility to choose in case of injuries and fitness issues. Fabinho was clearly still part of the squad when Mac Allister was bought; I doubt anybody at the club knew he would be gone a few weeks later. So for me Mac Allister was/ is one of the dedicated CMs. I think the DM duties will be shared/ rotated between Gravenberch/ Bajcetic/ Endo once all 3 are assimilated, fit and ready to go. If you consider TAA along with all the midfielders in the squad now, you realize that on paper our midfield is as strong as with our title winning teams.

12.) 04 Sep 2023 22:18:17
Mac could be our new Xabi

Not saying anything more about our Magyar as I just don’t want to jinx it…… we might just have won the jackpot there!

Curtis could be very important to us this season.

Think the signs for takeoff of LFC 2.0 are there.

13.) 05 Sep 2023 01:48:16
I think we wouldn't be getting the best out of him in that role.

14.) 05 Sep 2023 08:50:58
Klopp loves versatility in a player. Mac has the ability to play No6 or anywhere else in midfield. Szob can play AM or RW. Trent at RB or MF. Gakpo up front or AM. Nunez as striker or LW. Etc.
We can play flexible formations and move players to different positions without reducing effectiveness. We can cover injuries when they occur and bring on scary talent from the bench.
This team is going to succeed simply because of the talent and the ability to bypass issues with a plethora of flexible solutions.

My brother, who I’ve not seen since the World Cup quarter finals is coming to stay this weekend- he’s a dirty Manc!
Who’s with me in believing we’ll snatch 4th Sunday?

1.) 25 May 2023 20:29:52
Well Man U are 1-0 up against a Chelsea team that can't finish their dinner, and a draw will do them.

So there's going to need to be something of a collapse.

2.) 25 May 2023 20:31:04
And btw, Mudryk is a terrible player. All pace and no technique. He has one of the worst touches I've ever seen.

3.) 25 May 2023 20:38:14
I had belief that one of manU or newcastle wouldn't pick up the required 6 points in the last 3 matches. But us drawing vs Villa has killed that hope. I have zero belief and am really ok with that.

Whilst it would have been amazing to sneak in, I think 5th is about as good as we deserve because we simply haven't been good enough all season.

4.) 25 May 2023 21:11:09
Someone with more positivity than me?

I have up that ghost when the 71 points went out the window last weekend. Up to then I was believing.

5.) 25 May 2023 21:15:12
We deserve to finish where we finish. I've siad it before, if you finish 1st its because you were better than 19 teams over a season. If you finish last its because you were worse than 19 teams over the season. Liverpool have finished 5th as they were better than 15 teams and worse than 4 . You can't fluke a 38 game season, you finish exactly where you should be. Liverpool, this season should be 5th.

6.) 25 May 2023 20:56:11
We don’t deserve it simples and.

7.) 25 May 2023 23:06:44
I would argue Alisson is the reason we didn’t finish 9th.

8.) 25 May 2023 23:11:19
It doesn’t even look like 71 points would have been enough.

9.) 26 May 2023 01:20:55
It would have JK if we got it. We gave Man UTD and Newcastle the breathing room they badly badly needed unfortunately.

10.) 26 May 2023 07:12:01
Mydryck = Markovic.

10 Feb 2022 18:48:36
Diaz starts.

Si B

{Ed0666's Note - come on Lucho! Hit the ground running lad

1.) 10 Feb 2022 19:27:08
We all know that Klopp has in the past eased players into the starting line up rather than throw new signings straight in. But does anyone else get the impression that Diaz is being treated more like a Salah/ VVD signing, where he is expected to slot pretty much straight into the first team?

2.) 10 Feb 2022 20:19:01
Reddawn, aye sir.

3.) 10 Feb 2022 20:48:46
Nasty collision Robbo had with the post there. After a few minutes of treatment and careful inspection, the post was deemed safe to continue.

4.) 10 Feb 2022 21:45:49
I Thought that was a good performance. Jota class.
Van Dijk also was immense. Leicester didn’t lay a glove on us.

{Ed0666's Note - I thought we were ok. Not a vintage performance by any means. We won and that’s the main thing as we can’t afford to slip up. Let’s hope Norwich can pull of a surprise on Saturday.

5.) 10 Feb 2022 21:54:39
Great game Diaz was good and jota always seems to find the net. Just have to say that firmino looks way of pace. His touches aren't what it used to be either. think it's time to sell while he still have some value.

6.) 10 Feb 2022 22:15:51
Can't be sold. The window is shut.

7.) 10 Feb 2022 22:49:52
Bobby has often blown hot and cold during his Liverpool career. I think it would be premature to think he's done here now, unless he particularly wants to go somewhere else.

8.) 10 Feb 2022 22:57:26
Ed0666 I have to disagree with you boss! Leicester didn’t have any clear cut chances bar Madison’s which was from a very tight angle and Ali was always the favorite, we dominated them till our first goal and bullied them thereafter! The offside flag going up after an hour of play since the incident is what made it look like they had a few perks.

{Ed0666's Note - I’m not sure it was as resounding a performance as you suggest mate but I respect your opinion. I think it’s a case of having to agree to disagree mate.

9.) 10 Feb 2022 23:57:49
Agree with Flash on Bobby. When he has a bad day he can’t trap a bag of cement, everything just bounces off him but he’s always been that way.
If he gets into a groove we will see the old Bobby soon enough. A bit to early to be writing him off after one bad performance in my opinion.

10.) 10 Feb 2022 23:38:34
I think it’s bobbys time to go, we don’t need the ‘Bobby’ role anymore, the teams evolved and Bobby hasn’t. He’s been a great servant to the club but I’d much rather him leave than mane, but the issue I think would be finding a buyer for him.

11.) 11 Feb 2022 02:39:48
We should sell mane because over the last couple of seasons he’s blown hot and cold.

And we should keep Bobby because he’s blown hot and cold all his LFC career.

12.) 11 Feb 2022 03:12:00
I said a couple of weeks ago Bobby’s legs have gone.

If we are planning on selling one of the ‘front three’ - and great footballer though he was and still occasionally is - Bobby would be the one to release imho.

13.) 11 Feb 2022 06:00:26
Was a good performance but nothing more. Matip continues to worry me, for the Madison chance he was with him but almost stopped letting him have that chance which Ali saved.

14.) 11 Feb 2022 07:18:37
I think the problem with bobby is he know that jota has taken his place now and scoring so unless Bobby starts banging them in he’s not going win that place back when we have all the options to pick from. So basically he mentally beaten! I would also thank him for everything he’s done and move him on while we can.

15.) 11 Feb 2022 08:35:09
To be honest I think Diogo is a different type of footballer. He provides different qualities, not least being a natural goal scorer but I don’t think he is anywhere near Bobby’s class in terms of linking play and seeing the pass to create the chance.

That said I still think Bobby should be the one to leave in the summer.

16.) 11 Feb 2022 10:05:23
Three points and rhythm building is all that mattered yesterday. It usually takes us 3 or 4 games to really click through the gears. That will probably come by the time we get to the Inter tie.

We will need all of these players fit, focused and ready for all of the remaining games. Reading Firmino obituaries is odd.

17.) 11 Feb 2022 10:15:57
There’s no doubting Bobbys strength in the past were his pressing and linking up of play. Last night his pressing was good along with the Jota and Diaz but Thiago was something else in pressuring the ball.

When in possession he seemed to either under hit the vital pass or get caught in possession quite a few times.

The thing I found interesting was everytime Jota got the ball the intensity in the crowd rose and that seemed to spread to Diaz as well as both players seem far more direct.

In a perfect world I’d love to see the 5 (Salah, Mane, Bobby, Diaz and Jota) kept next season and Origi and Mino move on as there is so much scope for us to play with 4 forwards abasing the teams who park the bus.

But as 4th highest paid player I think keeping Bobby on those terms or even increased wages wouldn’t make financial sense as for me he would be 5th choice But I have nothing to do with finances or team selection before anyone picks me up for that.

18.) 11 Feb 2022 10:49:11
. after every game even if we win our fan base just has to nit pick and go x needs to be sold or y needs to be move on just enjoy the win bobby didn't do anything particular wrong he was fine same as jones just enjoy the win and move on.

19.) 11 Feb 2022 11:42:35
I thought Bobbie was very hit and miss all night long. You could see what he was trying to do and the quality he still possesses BUT his passes were often under hit even tho the intent was brilliant and his first touch at times let him down. Bobbie has played much better than that this season BUT on this game, he was not very good. As for whether Bobbie needs to be sold, I doubt that cos there is not much value there, IMO so there's nothing wrong with keeping him. Under reduced terms would be preferable BUT we shall see.

As for Diaz, absolute beast of a footballer. He naver loses the ball, has great touch, ball-shielding skills and NEVER gives up on any loose ball. His movement was also very good. Looks like we got another one.

20.) 11 Feb 2022 12:08:28
Oli, Diaz also seems to enjoy a challenge as well. He made two slide tackles that other foreign players might have shy’d away from in seasons of past.

21.) 11 Feb 2022 12:14:02
Would Bobby not take a pay cut on his next contract? He seems to really enjoy the city and club and with his age, does he really think he will get anywhere near what he is currently on somewhere else?

22.) 11 Feb 2022 14:16:20
JK, I saw that as well. Klopp said it when he arrived, "He is a fighter". Memo to players wanting to come to LFC: Passengers need not apply.

29 Jan 2022 07:03:04
My main concern about signing Díaz for between £40-60M is how much further that pushes me down the pecking order.
Ok, I’m 45, predominately left footed and never been remotely considered as a professional footballer; but do FSG really know what they’re doing?

Si B

1.) 29 Jan 2022 07:18:44
You would get your chances as you are younger than Milner by a good 15 years 😀.

2.) 29 Jan 2022 07:27:16
I feel for you Si B. I really do. If it were me I'd move kid, for your development you've got to play.

3.) 29 Jan 2022 07:39:59
I did get offered a player/ manager job at Everton but I’m holding out for a paper round job. Fingers crossed 🤞.

{Ed025's Note - i like that Si.. :)

4.) 29 Jan 2022 08:14:27
I too feel your pain Si . similar MO for me, untapped mediocrity although I have more experience of said skill set at the age of 58 …still if I could bring myself to adorn the colour, there’s hope across the park given the Blue S squad potential. Could easily see an extended run in that shambolic set up.

Good luck with that fat Frank!

{Ed025's Note - frank is not fat marshy for starters, and hes an up and coming manager just like gerrard, except frank has a personality...unlike slippy G ..

5.) 29 Jan 2022 08:44:03
Bear with me while I rebait my line ed0025!

{Ed025's Note - you dont need bait for me marshy...im like a mackerel mate..

6.) 29 Jan 2022 08:53:12
He also bombed at Chelsea 25. I would be worried. Everton fans aren't covering themselves with glory at the minute mate. wanting a manager sacked before he even gets the job 🤣🤣. what's that all about?

{Ed025's Note - toxicity of fans is not a new concept im afraid irish, i remember the gilette and hicks years at liverpool and the hounding out of roy hodgson, we all have these crosses to bear mate..

7.) 29 Jan 2022 09:08:11
Ed025. One thing about Lampard is he would bring the youth into the game and Tbf Everton has not many options than relying on the youth today. That being said he won’t go along well with your hierarchy mate.
His style is all about possession and I don’t know other than Gomez you have anyone to play that way.

8.) 29 Jan 2022 09:14:52
Tbf he never was mr personality but I would tip stevie to be a much better manager than lippy Frank all day long. Klopp mentored him well and he is showing great promise so far.

Frank maybe got his big chance too early at Chelsea so stepping down to Everton might be just the job for him. 😉 sorry ed25, you know I love ya.

{Ed025's Note - hes the best of a bad bunch for me IAC, its become somewhat of a poisoned chalice the everton job so like my golf swing...its a bit of hit and hope mate..

9.) 29 Jan 2022 10:30:42
I think fat Frank will take Everton down. Tactically inept and no money to spend, plus who will want to sign for Everton? Awful fans and poorly run.

10.) 29 Jan 2022 11:10:57
I worry about you’s with Lampard Ed his ability to organize a defense is shocking, as proven with his time at Chelsea. On the plus side he will give youngsters a chance and, given how woeful the senior players have been, that could be his saving grace. But of a gamble though and if the fans remain toxic it could turn ugly quickly.

{Ed025's Note - its a hard gig for anyone to take seano, so why not give him a shot i say, young, english, hungry and gives youth a chance, you never know mate..

11.) 29 Jan 2022 11:21:36
The only personality that Lampard has is his wife Christine!

{Ed025's Note - yeah but he does smile on the odd occasion meagain, unlike your ex skipper with the personality of a cardboard box..

12.) 29 Jan 2022 11:24:51
Why would Frank bring youth into the team TT? Because he did at Chelsea when they had a transfer ban and no choice? Do Everton have the youth players Chelsea have?

13.) 29 Jan 2022 11:35:25
Everyone is a risk at Everton atm but in reality they r in a relegation battle this season and best option for them would have been to get big Sam back. Lampard could very easily take them down.

{Ed025's Note - i think you have to be more forward thinking than that roro, been there with fat scam mate..

14.) 29 Jan 2022 11:39:17
6 games then fat frank is swapped for Fireman Sam!

{Ed025's Note - i think your hoping there marshy..

15.) 29 Jan 2022 12:06:56
Personality won't win you many games like.

16.) 29 Jan 2022 11:49:10
Tbh 0025 I am because if it doesn’t we won’t have a derby next year, which would be a real pity.

{Ed025's Note - it is marshy, which other bunch of fairies could we get to kick off the park?.. :)

17.) 29 Jan 2022 12:09:36
Stevie G did plenty of smiling and laughing at Goodison recently Ed hahaha. Hope you enjoyed it as much.

{Ed025's Note - that must have been wind rambo, that miserable sod wouldn,t smile if he seen a chair walk mate..

18.) 29 Jan 2022 12:24:56
I’ve not seen anything from Lampard to suggest he is any good. In his time at Chelsea he seemed to try way too hard to impress, constantly changing the team and the tactics while often making very harsh and pointed examples of players, dropping them as soon as they had a bad game. I personally think it will be a disaster.

19.) 29 Jan 2022 12:44:18
So ed25 am I to take it that you don't like Steven Gerrard? or are you really a secret admirer?

{Ed025's Note - as a footballer he was excellent iron man, as a human being not so much...in fact a scum bag..

20.) 29 Jan 2022 13:18:10
Why do you think he was a **** bag 25? I've heard a few stories but is there anything in particular?

{Ed025's Note - quite a few actually marty, the one with the DJ is a whopper but im not into character assassination mate..

21.) 29 Jan 2022 16:39:21
In fairness though Ed a significant number of footballers are complete douche bags, Gerrard, Terry, Lampard, Cashley Hole, Rio Ferdinand, Ryan Giggs, Sterling. Some of the stories about those guys floating around are somewhere between shocking and funny and every one of them has a super injunction preventing the stories ever being released.

{Ed025's Note - your dead right mate..

22.) 29 Jan 2022 17:27:59
I am concerned for Everton this season, they really are in danger of being dragged into the relegation battle, and it wouldn't be good for the city or Liverpool FC without the pants villains to play.

They have to get the managers choice right this time, I actually thought Rafa would do ok and maybe but for injuries he would, makes you thankful that Jurgen was appointed for us.

23.) 29 Jan 2022 17:37:44
Jason McAteer debunked a cracker on Soccer AM last week and attributed it to David Burrows, the story goes they was in a pizza place and the server asked did he want it cutting into 4 or 8 pieces, and he said 4.because i will never eat all 8 mate.

{Ed0666's Note - to be fair 8 slices is a lot of pizza 😂

24.) 29 Jan 2022 17:40:24
:Si B has just signed for Newcastle!
Another that got away!
FSG OUT!

17 Oct 2020 11:31:02
An hour to go and the tension is killing me!

I’m on record as saying I’m losing interest in the beautiful game but c’mon; the world champions coming off the back of their worst defeat in 60 years playing the most inform side in the PL? In a Merseyside derby?

It’s 1985 again!
Damn you C.V. for denying us the in stadium atmosphere this match deserves!

YNWA Reds and Blues.

Si B

1.) 17 Oct 2020 11:36:16
Liverpool by 3, no problem.

2.) 17 Oct 2020 11:40:47
Wow Klopp has gone Fabinho and Thiago in the same midfield.
Not sure about this now.

3.) 17 Oct 2020 11:47:30
POLECAT your confidence reassures me.

I have a feeling that this could be a classic in the making.
The contrasting midfield styles is vital, whichever side wind that battle wins the game for me.

However our side definitely gives us the advantage to score against run of play if the Toffees do manage to dominate possession.

YNWA.

4.) 17 Oct 2020 12:31:48
It’s gunna be a tight game in need of some strength in midfield which could be forced deep. If we can break Thiago will find the pass.

5.) 17 Oct 2020 14:38:02
If Virgil had stayed on it would have been by 3 : (.

If there is any truth to the Sarr rumours then it surely must mean either Mané or Salah’s exit this window.
The club have clearly stated the current financial constraints, and explained the legitimate reasons for them.
When you factor in the Jota purchase and the HG aspects a deal for Sarr makes no logical sense otherwise.

Elliott has all the talent in the world and could/ should develop into a true star.

My only concern is that it will not be with us, cos as mentioned by another poster, I see him as a Silva type player, which doesn’t suit our system.

Mark my words, he’ll be a superstar in a few years.

Rate them both highly, especially Szobo!

The OP point is that surely you don’t let Fab go unless the scouts have highlighted a clear and available replacement of better quality first?

I think the idea is to try to fit 4 of Diaz, Salah, Gakpo, Nunez, Jota into the majority of games next season.
If so we need 2 exceptional defensive midfielders.

Assuming Fab can regain his form, we need another of his ilk. Not sure who that is but I don’t think it’s Mac Allister, Neves, Caciedo, Mount.

Maybe Neuhaus, previously linked but poor few seasons?
For me Tchoumani would be perfect, but would we revisit after failing last year?
