Just watching the West Ham away game from last season on lfctv and looking at the line up. Quite conceivable that our starting 11 against West Ham first up next season will see the entire back five and midfield with different personnel!

Robbie1892

{Ed002's Note - Just try and see next season as a year of transition and don't worry about it.}

1.) 17 Jun 2018 10:32:46
Haha that’s funny. Just can’t believe the turnover of players we have nowadays. Football has changed so much since days of only 14 players representing their team in an entire season. I know it’s more squad based now but at some stage we need to try to keep a team together for longer to bond better. Why do you think things have gone this way ed, the large turnover of players each season?

{Ed002's Note - Bad choices, too much money, managers who make dumb choices, owners who want to buy success, etc.. For other clubs I don't know.}

2.) 17 Jun 2018 11:00:00
The recruitment of players has massively improved in the last couple of seasons. We now choose targets in positions we need and that fit a style and system.

Remember signing Adam, Carroll, Benteke, Balotelli, Allen, Downing, Mignolet etc?

I wouldn’t say our turnover of players is anywhere near as high as it was under Rodgers/ old committee.

Yes the transfer and agent fees paid are eye watering and some of the unsettling/ negotiation tactics/ illegal approaches are still areas we can improve upon.

3.) 17 Jun 2018 11:54:29
Thanks ed, it’s amazing just how much wastage there is financially!
Flypelicanfly- I agree that our decisions seem to be improved but turnover of players still remains high. Wouldn’t be surprised if we see 6 new players coming in again this summer and maybe 10 going out!

4.) 17 Jun 2018 13:00:12
LOL @ Ed002 and “transition”.

Some have already done that ed, saying we can give Karius at least another season to settle. 👍.

5.) 17 Jun 2018 14:02:22
Lol “ for other clubs I don’t know”.

10 Jun 2018 11:14:49
The one positive for me in this Fekir discussion is that Klopp has seemingly played the long game when trying to get his number one targets. If we believe that he waited a year for Fabinho, he did the same with Keita and went back in for VVD in the January window. Hopefully negotiations pick up again later in the summer and we get our number one target.

Robbie1892

1.) 10 Jun 2018 11:32:44
Was Lemar that man in the January transfer window?
He can play wide, has pace, and also centrally and has a pass on him.
If we'd got him then, could he have played in the CL?

It's ok saying play the long game, but Coutinho's loss caught up with us in the end.
We'll see what happens this Summer but we surely don't want to be waiting another 6-12 months for a top target?

2.) 10 Jun 2018 11:56:06
So what. You would have paid the extortionate fee Monaco wanted to sell him in January? Thankfully you aren't the one doing the negotiations.

3.) 10 Jun 2018 12:34:18
I would have, frankly, yes.
2nd was attainable and we ended up getting severely embarrassed for 70 minutes in a European Cup Final, lumping aimless balls forward to no effect.
People squealing about Ramos and Karius, but I think that was the worst major cup final I've seen us play in over 40 years.

4.) 10 Jun 2018 13:31:17
No I don’t think Lemar could have played in the CL as he’d already played for Monaco I think?

I didn’t mean wait a year I meant just because negotiations have broken down doesn’t necessarily mean we will go away and bid for somebody else. My guess is that Klopp really wants him and as such will remain focused on getting his man but maybe later in the window.

Maybe I’m just an optimist🙂.

Hi Ed’s hope you are all keeping well. Quick question, money aside and assuming the Fekir deal goes through what are your thoughts on the business Liverpool have done thus far?
Thanks in advance and keep up the good work - love this site.

Robbie1892

{Ed002's Note - Good.}

Hi eds, happy new year to you all and everybody on the site. It’s a shame that we have lost Couts but we have lost and replaced better players in our past. Quick question, if we were to throw the cash at Real Madrid do you feel there would be the slightest chance they would accept a deal for Assencio or is that pie in the sky? Thanks in advance, great site.

Robbie1892

{Ed001's Note - they do not want to lose him, it would need him to want to go really.}

1.) 06 Jan 2018 20:53:12
Thanks Ed, just read the post about your friend. Terrible news so sorry to hear that. I think news like that and things that Liverpool fans have had to go through over the years shows that losing a footballer to another team is pretty meaningless in the grand scheme of things. Head up ed.

{Ed001's Note - good point Robbie thank you.}

Got to say, can't remember the last time I was this excited about Liverpool. When we had that really good team under Benitez I always thought we had good players who needed unleashing. The year we came 2nd to united was the best we played under him. Our front 6 (especially next season when Keith joins) must be our best since the 87/ 88 team. Mane/ Firmino/ Salah/ Coutinho/ AOC/ Sturridge/ Solanke/ Lallana - what great options going forward!
Next year if we can extend Cans contract we'd have Can/ Keita/ Hendo/ Winalldjum in the two holding and four really good young fullbacks.
If we can sort out our centre halves and but a world class goalkeeper I honestly think we could be fighting on all fronts with a great chance of winning major tournaments again.
We also have many really good young lads who whilst not quite ready, will certainly add depth to our squad.
Unlike many I really appreciate what our owners have done for us. I think the future looks great.

Great positive post. love it mate!

2.) 03 Sep 2017 22:27:29
There is and never will be a player similar to Alonso or Gerrard! So the comparison is BS! The 4 players you refer in the holding role would not even lace the boots if Xabi intact they are not holding mid inbthe first place, you are just shorting them in that role. And FGS, Kieta is more like a playmaker!

3.) 03 Sep 2017 22:42:49
great post Robbie!

couldnt agree more! i also think we need to try Ward in goal and give him a good run because he could potentialy save us a lot of money and goals get a top centre half to partner Matip, a proper leader, VVD or who ever it may be and next year we will be golden. we have keita coming in this lad is special the opposition can't get the ball off him i dunno if its the league he's playing in or whatever, it might be different in the Prem but we will see, he has everything vision, speed, passing, can score and he looks strong and can dribble and likes to take his man on or the whole team from what i am seeing (youtube lol) . its all coming together we just need to sort the coutinho situation out if he is willing to appologise and get his head down and give it his all for us great, il try to forgive him, if not we sell and replace him Lemar looks great! thoughts ed01 and reds?

LFK II.

4.) 03 Sep 2017 22:57:21
Don't worry Robbie, the optimism will all come crashing down around you after Christmas once the injurys kick in.

Jesting mate. Good post

Have to agree with can't defend regarding Alonso and Gerrard, we also had mascherano.

5.) 03 Sep 2017 23:04:28
One thing Robbie.

I don't like being reminded of the year 1987, my second trip to Wembley watching the Reds. We lost 2-1 to Arsenal, Rushy scored first and we had this remarkable stat that when Rush scored, we never lost! The rest is history, Charlie Nicholas put a stop to that at left me feeling gutted. Never left a football ground feeling so deflated 😢😢😢😢.

6.) 04 Sep 2017 07:22:11
To we can't defend- I wasn't comparing those four players to Xabi, I said our entire front six. I think the team we had under Benitez had the capability of winning the league but at times we relied on too few players to score us the goals. Under this team we would have goals all over the place. Imagine a front six of Can, Keita, Coutinho, Mane, Salam and Firmino. Great movement and goals everywhere. Great bench strength as well.

7.) 04 Sep 2017 08:57:24
Great post, Robbie and your positivity is infectuous. Keep it coming.

Harry for all your crowing about the 2009 team, we had no depth (El Zahr, Babbel, Ngog, Pacheco etc) and we were essentially a two man team with Torres and SG in attack.

Now, we have something more solid, a more stable foundation as we have a system that all our players buy into that works for the most part as well as way more depth than in 2009 with a manager who is on the front foot all the time (goals all over the shop) compared to Rafa who lost us to PL cos he would rather not lose than go for the win (11 draws in 2009, is what cost us the PL) .

Hey ed02. You said that Ings was interesting Palace so off the back of that I put 10 pounds on him at 10-1 to do so. If he does move there I will put 20 pounds of my winnings to your fav charity if you can let me know what it is. Thanks (in advance if he does)

Robbie1892

{Ed002's Note - Thanks Robbie but I really don’t want to be encouraging gambling at all.}

No not to sit on the bench but to rotate with the other three. If successful each of them could play Over 40 games each and the likelihood is that there will be injuries also throughout a long season.

Robbie1892

{Ed002's Note - it really doesn’t work like that.}

Hi Ed thanks for that. Can I ask why he would be a replacement is it due to how much he would cost? We saw what happened in the CL final when one of our front three go off. Wouldn’t we buy a player so we could keep rotating them? Cheers.

Robbie1892

{Ed002's Note - Why would be move to Liverpool to sit on the bench.}

the people wishing death on people or cancer to people’s children are not Liverpool fans or football fans or whatever their job may be in life. They are scum and would be writing this sort of rubbish regardless of their so called allegiance to a team.

There are hundred of thousand Liverpool fans maybe millions worldwide who are good law abiding decent people. The idiots that write this rubbish are vermin.
I do feel though that unfortunately regardless of how well he does next season he is always just one mistake away from giving these utter persons the airtime the small little idiots believe they deserve.

I also hope for his own sake he leaves. For what it’s worth I don’t think he is good enough if we want to challenge for a title but the man seems decent and should be treated with respect.

No id be happy giving Wilson a chance - I said if we were to buy somebody it should be someone with similar attributes. I’d personally move Mane deeper and play him in front of a Keita and Henderson/ Fabinho partnership. Then look to bring somebody in for the left hand side. That’s probably why I’m not in this sort of role.

I think the issue we have with buying someone like Shaquiri is that he isn’t really cover for our front three because if Mane or Salah can’t play or get injured we would need to change our game completely because he isn’t a like for like replacement. This is partly why we lost our shape in the cl final because not only did we lose Salah we also had to change both manes and Firmino s position. For me if we buy cover it should be a player with similar attributes who may not be quite at that level yet - so for example an uk and coming youngster.

Robbie1892

{Ed002's Note - Maybe sell Wilson to buy this up and coming youngster?}
