Hi eds, are Fernando and menez free agents in the summer? If they are do you know who they will likely join for next season? Cheers.

Red80

{Ed002's Note - I suspect Fernando will complete his move to Manchester even after agreeing a new contract with Porto. Fiorentina are still pushing the hardest for Menez.}

Lots of talk of 3 or 5 substitutes. Could a solution be that any additional substitute to the normal 3 have to be homegrown and under 21. It would ease the argument of bigger clubs being in a position to bring on expensive signings, support players getting rests and more youngsters getting minutes in the first team.
One possible negative could be for players like Curtis Jones. Would he be substitute instead of starting knowing he could be the additional substitute.

Bad idea I think. no offence of course but the rule wouldn't work at all.

{Ed002's Note - There is a great deal of support for such ideas and using Club Developed players.}

2.) 25 Nov 2020 10:07:42
That is not a bad idea, OP. Something to think about and as ED02 has said, it is actually being looked into.

3.) 25 Nov 2020 11:48:28
Ed could that support transition into potentially being put into place?

{Ed002's Note - At some point The FA are likely to look to amending the squad rules - right now for players 21 and over it is a simple 25 player max of which a maximum of 17 can be non home grown in the Premier League (it is different in European games). I would expect a transition in the Premier League to something like 13 non HG with eventually something like four being Club Developed.

Some countries have rules that say a certain number of Under 21 HG players have to be in the matchday squad. Others have limits on number of non HG starters - in Romania, Dan Petrescu had to deal with an Under 21 non-HG starter rule and substituted a youngster immediately after Kick Off.

Without doubt there is change coming.}

4.) 25 Nov 2020 12:29:11
I like that idea a lot Red. Good for you.

5.) 25 Nov 2020 20:43:11
I like it too, good idea.

It can be argued we needed a left back, however this has to be our best transfer window for quite some time. We have improved the team whilst also managing to offload a lot of players who were surplus and received good fees for the majority. Hopefully now we are in a position where future windows won't see 6-7 signings and we will be able to make the 1 or 2 quality signings which will improve the first 11.

Are you serious? It's a shambles.

2.) 31 Aug 2016 22:05:22
We have wasted money again on a player we didn't need in wijnaldum.

Klaven wasn't needed I'd rather we just kept toure.

All along we haven't bought a LB which was a massive problem area. Why sell smith?

It's been far from brilliant.

3.) 31 Aug 2016 22:06:37
Quiet down guys, just wait and see how the season unfolds. Although i was hoping for a LB.

4.) 31 Aug 2016 22:14:38
I think Sakho missing from your back four makes you weaker from a defensive point of view. Surprised you didn't buy a top notch keeper, CB and LB.

Not sure you needed Wijnaldum, also it seems Mane has replaced Sturridge from the team albeit not directly position wise, more replaced from starting XI. So are you stronger offensively when all your best players are fit? Not massively if at all IMO. I like Mane, but Sturridge is a top player when fit and firing.

Liverpool will concede crazy amounts of goals this season. But I expect you to score loads too. I think you could see a few 4.3 results this season.

5.) 31 Aug 2016 22:17:12
Amassing a bloated squad was a shambles; thinning it out is prudent. We have done some good business in Karius, Matip, Klavan, Grujic and Mane. I'm less sure about Wijnaldum, but hope to be proved wrong. We've bolstered the defense, which was a weak area, though Left Back obviously needs adressing still. I cannot disagree with any of the outgoings; including, if he does leave, Sakho.
Some want to paint this as an excellent window, others as a catastrophe. The truth is in-between.

6.) 01 Sep 2016 12:45:34
We need to play gruic. Sp. Don't undrstand why klopp is not playing him? Brilliant in pre season.

10 Feb 2016 12:48:50
Gutted we not still in the Fa cup but hopefully the displays from the likes of Stewart, brannigan, chirivella and Smith show we have enough in the squad to do a job if needed. Hopefully with this realised we will now target players in upcoming transfer windows who will improve the 1st choice 11 rather than buy an endless amount of overpriced similar ability players who are short of competing for the title.

well said Red80. quality over quanity, only bring players in who are better than those we already have. would we miss milner or lallana, because we have chosen to use stewart or tex? we do not have a bottomless pit of cash, we need to get smarter in our transfer dealings.

2.) 10 Feb 2016 22:37:43
I Milner, Lallana, and Moreno as well as Clyne need to look over their shoulders, especially the first two because Stewart, Smith and Flanno are coming for your spots.

To shed a bit of light on the slight administrative problem holding up the Benteke deal. The computer systems at Melwood are prone to getting stuck on 3 or 4 letters.This has been an ongoing problem since Rodgers joined. The scouting search first got stuck on A,B & C which resulted in us signing Allen, Assaidi, Alberto, aspas, borini, continho, cissokho and can. The problem was thought to have been fixed but the signings mignolet, lambert, lallana, markovic, lovren, origi, manquillo, moreno, Mario and Milner highlighted the system had fixed on L,M, N & O. The systems was then reset but bogdan, Clyne and benteke have followed. Could have been worse beasant could have been our new back up keeper.

Why would he wait until after final to say he’s staying.

If Thiago is signed, it would provide the option for Fabinho to play Centre Back, which may be needed with Lovren leaving and Matip’s injury proneness.

red dale, are you his agent? He’s no where near the quality needed to play for Liverpool. But like you say, your opinion. Accomplished player I’ve ever seen is a bold statement though.

Its not a case of what is easiest. It’s a case of what’s best. If the right players aren’t available now, we should wait until the summer. I haven’t looked at the difference in our record of matches with and without coutinho but I think it’s good if not maybe better without him. Also think Woodburn could do a job in similar role until end of the season.

Red80

{Ed025's Note - yeah woodburn is very similar to pipco, i bet barca are kicking themselves they could have saved themselves a lot of money if they had gone for the cheaper option..

We should go for Ben Chilwell, he can play at the back and sides.

Red80

{Ed002's Note - Leicester’s Ben Chilwell has been attracting the attention of a number of sides with Arsenal, Brighton & Hove Albion, Liverpool and Norwich all attending Huddersfield Town games to watch the loanee after he impressed in the academy last season. Spurs and Newcastle have also been keeping a watchful eye. However, to cover for an injury, Claudio Ranieri has recalled Chilwell but matters are seemingly being taken out of his hands as Arsenal has made a formal approach to Leicester about a January transfer. If a move were to happen, the player would need to accept he would then likely be sent out on loan again.}

Quite often people like to focus on the negatives rather than look at what improvements have been made. We could be in a lot worse position ie having a high wage bill while in a relegation battle and no permanent manager.
