Leighton Clarkson has been recalled from loan at Blackburn - sadly the lad couldn't break into the first team. Positive thing is that Mowbray (Blackburn manager) has talked up how excellent he was. Perhaps we will see some of him in Jan given we are struggling with C.V. in the squad?

Hi Ed002,

Stricly this isn't Liverpool related but i think it potentially impacts future transfers by Liverpool and other clubs.

Due to the current financial difficulties facing most clubs, do you predict an increase in 3rd party owernship of players (in the countries that allow it - e. g. Portugal) . I am just thinking in respect of a number of talented youngsters in S. America. European clubs may not be able to pay as much as they have done historically which opens up a bigger door for 3rd parties to help finance the deal - which then makes things complicated down the line if those players wish to move to a league which doesn't allow 3rd party ownership.

Really interested to hear your thoughts.

Red Sandman.

Red Sandman

{Ed002's Note - It is a mixed answer. In Brazil in particular we are seeing clubs sell part of the player rights to third parties - at the lowest level, sponsorship is being obtained through the sale of part ownership of players to local businesses. And there has been an increase in that.

There is a strange situation in Spain where Spurs wanted to buy a player but it was two complex to sort out: Emerson (RWB) A complicated situation where the part owned player had a 50% stake in his ownership sold to Barcelona by Atletico Mineiro and the other 50% stake in his ownership sold to Real Betis by Ponte Preta with a final resolution of ownership needed by June 30, 2021 (currently registered with Barcelona and loaned to Real Betis). Real Betis will not want to sell their stake unless they can make a significant profit from the sale and FIFA rules mean that neither side can influence the other. To allow a transfer to England, where third party ownership is not allowed for new signings, will be difficult and expensive, with a third party agent/lawyer required to undertake all negotiations.

In reality, across Europe, including Portugal, TPO is banned now and the situation with players such as Emerson arriving from Brazil, sees clubs commit to resolve the situation within a fixed period. It will continue in South America.}

What is going on with Soton reporting us? Anybody heard anything on the details? Are we in the wrong?

Red Sandman.

Red Sandman

{Ed025's Note - according to radio solent..

1.) 06 Jun 2017 12:45:50
Not to excuse Liverpool if they actually have gotten this wrong (and hopefully if they did it's a genuine mistake and resolvable rather than arrogance or outright incompetence) however I do think the whole system is flawed.

In what kind of world is speaking to a players agent not effectively speaking to the player themselves? It should be black and white IMO. without permission from the club there should be no communication with players or the players agent to discuss a possible transfer under any circumstances.

2.) 06 Jun 2017 13:01:08
Soton) probably favour a man city deal as it will offer more cash straight up. Our deal likely to feature more add ons and clauses. Let's hope the pony tailed warrior is set on liverpool. I think he is. That's why they're making a fuss though imo.

3.) 06 Jun 2017 15:04:22
Exactly, Jonny. Remember, his agent came to us. We did not go to him meaning, VVD has his mind set on playing for LFC. To me, this is a ploy to send VVD to City against his wish cos they obviously want the money.

They don't want to sell to us cos a) they don't like us and b) they want more money from City who like Chelsea, spoke to him as well via Pep and Conte but the Saints are clearly fine with that.

Now if we did anything wrong which I doubt then we need to take whatever punishment we get and assume that the VVD deal is dead. And if we didn't then Saints will be looking like desperate people who are just Salty cos VVD chose us which means less money for them.

4.) 06 Jun 2017 16:08:17
Can't work like that Zimbo. We'd have never bothered unless his agent sounded us out.
Also if we want say Moreno to go, we'd like his agent to see what's out there. Moreno isn't listed, not sure transfer list even exists anymore.

Also most clubs don't want to sell their players, not going to speak to anyone otherwise.

Hi Ed001

I hope all is well with you in Dubai. Quick question - I currently donate to the page via a direct debit each month, but also now see there is an option for patreon payments as well. Which is easier/ better for you as I am easy either way and just want to make sure i am supporting the site in the most efficient way possible for you.

Red Sandman.

Red Sandman

{Ed001's Note - either is fine but Patreon would be better for me as it would make it look like I have some followers on there!}

1.) 16 Aug 2021 10:12:52
What's the code for the fantasy football league again? Thanks.

{Ed001's Note - I have no idea sorry. I don't have anything to do with fantasy football, never even played it.}

2.) 16 Aug 2021 10:34:37
haha noted Ed. Ill swap my payments round.

When are you getting the gang back together for a podcast? Don't tell Ed25 but I've missed listening to him on my morning commutes!

{Ed001's Note - we were intending to do one last week but somehow time got away from us. Hopefully we will do one this week.}

3.) 16 Aug 2021 12:43:18
The Patreon articles are worth the money. Thanks eds1.

Just seen the young lad Conor Bradley has been called up to the Nothern Ireland senior squad.

Does anyone have any info on how highly he is rated by the club? He is meant to be a right back which could prove useful if we want to send Neco out on loan for some quality first team exposure next season?

Red Sandman.

Red Sandman

1.) 26 May 2021 13:39:07
He is highly rated enough to be the starting right back in u23 or 18s at 17. He’s been called up because he’s a prospect and NI have major defensive issues. I really don’t see why any one would need to know how highly rated he is within the club? Nobody thinks he’s the new Cafu but he’s doing good and let’s see how he grows with experience and age and exposure. I can tell you there’s nobody who will come out and say well he’s our boy but we don’t think much to him. Every academy signs wonder kids that turn out to be nobodies every academy has its star player who amounts to nothing. You just have to wait and see.

2.) 26 May 2021 15:44:09
Fair point Jezza - was more just wanting to know if he was in the group of youngsters that would be pushing for a place in the first team squad in the near future (like that chap from Poland or the lad we bought from Derby) . There is often a lot of talk on this site from those in the U23s or U18s who would be pushing for a place on the first team tour over the summer and a chance at first team football next season - so wanted to know if people thoght he was in that bucket or not.

Red Sandman.

3.) 26 May 2021 16:35:40
Ryan Mcloughlin was called up for NI as a kid at Liverpool. Genuinely don't think he made a 1st team appearance for the club.

4.) 26 May 2021 17:54:45
He made a few appearances.

5.) 26 May 2021 17:56:40
Don't I know it Mane? Still waiting for a NI player to make the grade with Liverpool. No pressure Conor!

6.) 26 May 2021 18:18:23
You don't remember Elisha Scott then, IR?

Ask Ed025 about him, apparently he was good mates with Elisha's dad.

{Ed025's Note - now now zed, im old not bloody ancient mate.. :)

7.) 26 May 2021 20:03:15
I do Zed but that was years ago. Also Sammy Smyth in the early 50s, a CF with good goal scoring record for the club.
Its time for another now tho, its been way too long.

13 Apr 2021 15:39:24
Ed001

What would you do with Taki Minamino at the end of the season?

I have noticed that he has been starting less and less for Soton (he has only started 2 of the last 7 games and didn't make it off the bench for 3 of those games) .

Do you still think he has a future to play in our squad or should we look to sell the lad and let him crack on with his career elsewhere? I remember you mentioned that he had difficulty settling into the squad previously - has there been anything to suggest that he may be more settled after his time with Soton?

Red Sandman.

Red Sandman

{Ed001's Note - there are so many things going wrong with Southampton at the moment, it is not surprising he is out of the team. For all the plaudits and success early on, Ralph seems to have lost his way there and his team selections are questionable at best anyway. It has turned out to be an error to loan him to them. Which makes it very difficult to know if him not getting in the team is down to him or not.

For me I think he needs to be given a chance in preseason, as there is no Asian Cup this summer, while many of our other players will be playing in the summer and need a rest. It gives him the perfect chance to show whether or not the experience has fired him up or not. Then it is up to him.}

1.) 13 Apr 2021 16:28:58
I worry he might not cut it ed. Nonetheless he has to be tested out a lot in pre season. There have been very few asian players at LFC. I really want him to grab his chances in the pre season.

{Ed001's Note - I think it is too early to give up on him, it is a big adjustment for him coming from a culture like Japan to end up in the UK. I know people will say Germany and England have similar cultures, but the differences are, in large part aligned with the similarities between German and Japanese culture. So English culture is almost alien nowadays, now that manners and politeness is almost vanished in England! So the lad probably finds it a massive shock and Liverpool are not the best when it comes to helping players assimilate.}

2.) 13 Apr 2021 16:52:58
Dont think Taki will make it here, think he could go in the summer.

3.) 13 Apr 2021 16:59:03
ed001 I had high hopes for him when we signed him but I can't see him doing any good at the club now. I think best for all parties if we could sell him in the summer and let the lad settle down somewhere he is going to get game time.

{Ed001's Note - maybe, but I think it is a mistake to just throw him away because he can't settle, we should be looking to figure out how to help him settle so we can do more for future players.}

4.) 13 Apr 2021 17:05:36
Taki's gone this summer, permanently or loaned out again. Seems like a nice lad and would have been a nice story for a 7 million pound signing to cement a first team place, like Robbo.
But with Klopp wanting another forward this summer and Elliot expected to be the next big thing, I just don't see where Taki's opportunities are coming from.
Likely scenario is we sell Origi, Shaq and Taki to bring in a versatile forward this summer.

5.) 13 Apr 2021 17:17:45
Keeping fingers crossed. japanese people i know have adapted very well here in india one of the most diverse cultures out there.
Its difficult for them to gel around though but they are very respectable people and very hard working too.
I hope it works out for taki because he has shown he has the talent but in flashes only.

6.) 13 Apr 2021 17:10:27
I’d like Mino to make it at the club but apart from the Palace game he’s not really done it. In fairness though he’s not had a massive amount of chances.

Ed001 what do you think will happen with Naby in the summer?

{Ed001's Note - I think he has to go. He is not putting in effort to even convince he is worthy of trying to work with. If we can find anyone to take him!}

7.) 13 Apr 2021 17:31:47
I wonder if Minamino may just be a case of another good player who can’t quite make the step up mentally to play for a big club. I can see him doing well abroad or at a mid-table side, but it seems from the outside looking in that he doesn’t have the assertiveness or arrogance needed to start for us, almost as if he is daunted by where he finds himself.

I do think he’s a very talented player and i’d like him to stay and succeed, but there must be something about him that doesn’t instil Klopp with confidence. Could well be our next Aspas or Alberto.

8.) 13 Apr 2021 17:50:15
Take 15mill and get rid imo. Good player but too lightweight for the prem and isn’t going to be helping us win titles. Time to be ruthless especially if we don’t have funds. We need a clinical number 9 ideally with some
Physicality to rotate with Firmino for when we face 11 men behind the ball and need to put crosses in the box.

9.) 13 Apr 2021 22:02:20
Has he had that many opportunities really.? Its not like the keita situation, if we judged the rest of the squad off of this season we would be saying they can't settle or step up. He was good against Palace then was never seen again. You could say the same for a lot of the 1st team, though they actually did get selected.

10.) 13 Apr 2021 22:26:52
Mono is a very talented footballer and unthinkable Ed01 is right. We should not give up on him this soon and should b given every chance to prove himself cos even Klopp took the blame himself for not playing him more.

Also, there are about 4 or 5 players I would get rid of first before I even get to Mino and that includes Origi, Matip, Naby, Gini and prolly Ox and Shaq (50/ 50 on Ox) .

11.) 14 Apr 2021 04:07:47
Everything Ed is saying about the cultural differences between the UK and Japan is absolutely spot on. One of the main concerns I had about Minamino joining us (though I don’t know him personally) was how he would adapt to life in the UK as well as our squad.

Scores a winner against a big four rival in the process? Makes it worth keeping him for a year?

Don’t write the lad off just yet. If fit (big big if) he can be a match winner off the bench.

Thanks Ed002,

Putting aside who Klippity has the Klopps for, do people think that Lisandro Martinez has what it takes to be a "top" premier league club's starting CB?

I haven't seen much Dutch football to comment with any reasonable knowledge, but my understanding was that he is rather on the small side of things, and not an out and out CB by trade, as he is often foind playing left back or in Midfield.

In any case, I imagine his cost would put him well beyond what Liverpool would be able to afford, even if we did manage to sell a few players in January (e. g. Grujic)

I have seasons tickets at Fulham and I can tell you that Wilson is such a frustrating player at times. He has unbelievable technique, and can be insanely good at times but he really can be lazy the rest of the time! He very much is a match of the day highlights reel type of player. By my word can the lad strike the ball cleanly!
