ed002 - I hope you are well.

Tim Vickery recently did an interview with Sky Sports where he mentioned that Liverpool may have interest in Pablo Maia. I did a search and i think you mentioned he would be unlikely to get a work permit - and the known interest in him seems to be from Fulham. Have you heard of any recent Liverpool interest in him?

Red Sandman

{Ed002's Note - A WP can be obtained by paying over the odds. A Brazil cap would ease it considerably.}

Paying over the odds you say.

Let’s hope for a Brazil cap then :)

Read that as Pablo Aimar and got excited. He's 43 now but I'd still have him to be honest.

4.) 04 Aug 2023 09:58:05
Is there an option to pay under the odds and call it negotiating.

5.) 04 Aug 2023 15:17:20
Aimar was some player. He on the legends profile list Ed?

{Ed001's Note - he is now!}

6.) 04 Aug 2023 10:28:08
Cheers Ed002. Does that mean the interest from Liverpool might be genuine? I guess he would be an alternative to Lavia and Andre?

{Ed002's Note - I have explained the interest for a couple of months but he is not a DM player.

7.) 04 Aug 2023 14:37:42
Ed, do you think the reluctance to sign midfield reinforcements could be down to seeing how Kone's injury is going, we did seem very keen before the injury. Cheers and thanks for all the info.

{Ed002's Note - No, it is nothing to do with Kone.}

8.) 04 Aug 2023 16:09:33
Cheers.

9.) 04 Aug 2023 16:39:35
If we were looking at São Paulo, Lucas Beraldo would be the one for me. Not ready yet but a young, very talented left footed CB.

Hi Ed002

I hope you're enjoying the lovely English weather. Perfect for a G&T in the garden.

What's happening with Firmino? Is he off to Spain or are the rumours true of him being lured to Saudi on some rather big bucks?

Red Sandman

{Ed002's Note - Roberto Firmino (AM/F) Seen as one of three options to replace Joao Felix at Atletico Madrid if they can unload him. May be interest from Italy, Milan, Roma, Juventus or Inter perhaps. Anoither potential option will be the Middle East with Al Nassr declaring an interest or the MLS with St Louis City. Out of contract in the summer when he will leave Liverpool.}

Leighton Clarkson has been recalled from loan at Blackburn - sadly the lad couldn't break into the first team. Positive thing is that Mowbray (Blackburn manager) has talked up how excellent he was. Perhaps we will see some of him in Jan given we are struggling with C.V. in the squad?

1.) 04 Jan 2022 14:41:28
Maybe see him in the squad v Shrewsbury.

2.) 04 Jan 2022 14:50:13
Unless it’s called of because of C.V.?

3.) 04 Jan 2022 22:27:38
Maybe send him to a team he will get more game time.

Hi Ed002,

Stricly this isn't Liverpool related but i think it potentially impacts future transfers by Liverpool and other clubs.

Due to the current financial difficulties facing most clubs, do you predict an increase in 3rd party owernship of players (in the countries that allow it - e. g. Portugal) . I am just thinking in respect of a number of talented youngsters in S. America. European clubs may not be able to pay as much as they have done historically which opens up a bigger door for 3rd parties to help finance the deal - which then makes things complicated down the line if those players wish to move to a league which doesn't allow 3rd party ownership.

Really interested to hear your thoughts.

Red Sandman.

Red Sandman

{Ed002's Note - It is a mixed answer. In Brazil in particular we are seeing clubs sell part of the player rights to third parties - at the lowest level, sponsorship is being obtained through the sale of part ownership of players to local businesses. And there has been an increase in that.

There is a strange situation in Spain where Spurs wanted to buy a player but it was two complex to sort out: Emerson (RWB) A complicated situation where the part owned player had a 50% stake in his ownership sold to Barcelona by Atletico Mineiro and the other 50% stake in his ownership sold to Real Betis by Ponte Preta with a final resolution of ownership needed by June 30, 2021 (currently registered with Barcelona and loaned to Real Betis). Real Betis will not want to sell their stake unless they can make a significant profit from the sale and FIFA rules mean that neither side can influence the other. To allow a transfer to England, where third party ownership is not allowed for new signings, will be difficult and expensive, with a third party agent/lawyer required to undertake all negotiations.

In reality, across Europe, including Portugal, TPO is banned now and the situation with players such as Emerson arriving from Brazil, sees clubs commit to resolve the situation within a fixed period. It will continue in South America.}

Thanks Ed002. Really appreciate the response.

What is going on with Soton reporting us? Anybody heard anything on the details? Are we in the wrong?

Red Sandman.

Red Sandman

{Ed025's Note - according to radio solent..

1.) 06 Jun 2017 12:45:50
Not to excuse Liverpool if they actually have gotten this wrong (and hopefully if they did it's a genuine mistake and resolvable rather than arrogance or outright incompetence) however I do think the whole system is flawed.

In what kind of world is speaking to a players agent not effectively speaking to the player themselves? It should be black and white IMO. without permission from the club there should be no communication with players or the players agent to discuss a possible transfer under any circumstances.

2.) 06 Jun 2017 13:01:08
Soton) probably favour a man city deal as it will offer more cash straight up. Our deal likely to feature more add ons and clauses. Let's hope the pony tailed warrior is set on liverpool. I think he is. That's why they're making a fuss though imo.

3.) 06 Jun 2017 15:04:22
Exactly, Jonny. Remember, his agent came to us. We did not go to him meaning, VVD has his mind set on playing for LFC. To me, this is a ploy to send VVD to City against his wish cos they obviously want the money.

They don't want to sell to us cos a) they don't like us and b) they want more money from City who like Chelsea, spoke to him as well via Pep and Conte but the Saints are clearly fine with that.

Now if we did anything wrong which I doubt then we need to take whatever punishment we get and assume that the VVD deal is dead. And if we didn't then Saints will be looking like desperate people who are just Salty cos VVD chose us which means less money for them.

4.) 06 Jun 2017 16:08:17
Can't work like that Zimbo. We'd have never bothered unless his agent sounded us out.
Also if we want say Moreno to go, we'd like his agent to see what's out there. Moreno isn't listed, not sure transfer list even exists anymore.

Also most clubs don't want to sell their players, not going to speak to anyone otherwise.

Ed001 - did you enjoy the game yesterday? Watching the highlights back this morning, I have no idea how Arsenal managed to miss so many chances!

What are your views on what to do with Nunez? I love him to bits, but it is clear that his lack of finishing seems to be getting to him a bit? I noticed a couple of times in the game when he had a chance to shoot that he was doubting himself. Do you think we should stick with him in the starting line up or give him a few games out of the spotlight to get his confidence back?

Red Sandman.

Red Sandman

{Ed001's Note - I did enjoy it, it was a good game. Arsenal were excellent and gave us a real test but we came through it. Cups are all about the result, so it is just good to be in the draw.

Nunez is clearly struggling for confidence but his play other than goalscoring is so good you have to stick with him. Firmino was similar in that regard. He didn't score anything like enough but brought so much more to the team that he had to be picked anyway. Nunez forced them back and gave us the space to get out when we finally started getting the ball to him. That is what changed the game. He may miss a lot, but you still don't want to give him an open goal as there is a good chance someone will knock in a rebound or he will pass to someone else to finish. The question for me is whether to stick with him in the centre or play him off the left. Though last night showed we have the ability to switch it about as needed mid-game anyway, so even that is not that important. He has to start though, he gives so much to the team.}

1.) 08 Jan 2024 13:14:51
Very good point on Firmino ed mate.

I think for Nunez, playing on the left might give him a little less pressure? The lad is dying to score but he just can't get there right now, put him on the left, with his work rate he's always going to do well. I think all of them up top will be rotating whilst Salah is away, give him this time to build his confidence then put him back in the centre.

{Ed001's Note - I do like him on the left being able to cut in, but I also like him in the centre. I expect Klopp to understand what is best for the player and he can always shift him about if the game needs it anyway.}

2.) 08 Jan 2024 13:36:36
I just think he’s gunna get about 3/ 4 in a game soon and kick on . But like you say ed1 he offers so much more than goals that he shouldn’t be solely judged on goals alone . I think him on the left diaz on the right and jota through the middle will be how we start against Fulham Wednesday . And you’ll see the 3 of them probably rotating all through the game causing murder .

{Ed001's Note - I do enjoy seeing them rotating around, there was a lot of that between Diaz and Jota last night and it was really good to see them working out between themselves.}

3.) 08 Jan 2024 13:59:49
Agree that I prefer him in the centre, knowing he can switch out to the left or right when needed.

He was badly isolated in the first half while we struggled to break their first press and progress the ball into the final third.

Honestly I didn't have the FA cup as a priority but Klopp quite rightly chose to keep collecting the memories. This new squad is racking up the experiences and big moments at record speed.

4.) 08 Jan 2024 14:01:23
Completely agree that Nunez must be part of the front three. He is just a constant threat and makes room for everyone else.

There's very few players you can just boot the ball up to. He will go after everything. Such a threat.

When he puts the scoring together. My god.

5.) 08 Jan 2024 14:01:43
I'd play Nunez in the center simply because both Gakpo and Jota seem better on the left to me (not to mention we have Diaz), and go a little bit missing in the center sometimes.

Whilst you can always rely on Nunez to put in a shift.

6.) 08 Jan 2024 14:19:57
How do you rate Arsenal as a team, Ed?
They’ve got some excellent players, they look well-drilled and rehearsed in many aspects of the game, but there seems to be things missing.
I’d be fuming if I was an Arsenal fan, regardless. Klopp was clearly thrilled to pieces post match yesterday, but I do not believe that was a match Liverpool were hellbent on winning. Despite that, Arsenal’s chances of a trophy this season are hanging by a thread yet again.

{Ed001's Note - I think Arsenal are being hindered by Arteta, they are better than they are showing because he doesn't get the most out of them. Saka looks out on his feet and desperately in need of a rest, on top of Arteta encouraging him to throw himself to the floor at every opportunity.}

7.) 08 Jan 2024 14:20:41
People seem to have just accepted that Nunez is a poor finisher but I can tell you he certainly isn’t.

He seems to try a bit too hard which is something I remember saying about Suarez once upon a time, then something clicked and the floodgates opened. I fully expect the same to happen with Nunez.

Let’s not forget this is only his 4th season in top flight football, it’s been a meteoric rise but there is still loads of improvement to come.

8.) 08 Jan 2024 14:48:41
Nunez hits everything so hard and true he almost needs to stop hitting it as well for the goals to flow . I remember few weeks back not sure what game it was but he put his laces through 1 and had it went in the net was bursting I’m sure of it . I think it’s mainly the outside talking about Nunez now I think klopp is more than happy with his effort and team play to not be getting caught up in a numbers game.

9.) 08 Jan 2024 14:57:40
Any chance of a review Ed001 or you sticking to league games only?

{Ed001's Note - league games only mate, sorry.}

10.) 08 Jan 2024 15:15:31
I think the scoring will come for Nunez. Not sure he ll become an expert finisher but I think he ll convert a much higher percentage and with the amount of chances he gets, it will make him a 30 goal plus striker.

11.) 08 Jan 2024 15:46:10
No worries Ed001. Alright if you add a review of Arsenal under Arteta to the list? Would be interesting to hear what you think and how they compare to City and Liverpool.

Thanks.

{Ed001's Note - I have added that to my to do list for you mate.}

12.) 08 Jan 2024 15:59:17
Cheers Ed001.

{Ed001's Note - very welcome mate.}

13.) 08 Jan 2024 16:24:08
I like Nunez and the lad seems to love playing for the club.

But I could just imagine a 35 year old Nunez still at the club with fans saying any day now it’s going to click in front of goal and it’s like Suarez in his first 6 months ?.

14.) 08 Jan 2024 16:26:50
Nice one, Ed01. As for Darwin, I think Klopp is doing with him what he did with Lewandowski at the start at Dortmund where he first off, turned him into an all round brilliant footballer while at the same time, a feared CF the world has ever seen. Klopp would be stupid to not start him on the left or CF even though I liked him on the left when shifted there in-game. He just needs to bag a couple in and his confidence will be up again.

Outside of that, the kid is a menace to society. He was our only outlet when we were under real pressure in the first half. The kid is so versatile and has so much ability, you cannot ignore him cos just ask Burnley. They did not believe he would bend that banger in first time and Bang, he did. Klopp an the coaches love him and so do I.

15.) 08 Jan 2024 16:52:15
I really love Nunez and love the hardwork the lad puts in every game. As a fan you cannot ask for anything more really. But currently, he is way short of Prime Firmino at Liverpool. His ceiling is probably higher than Firmino, and I would love to see that happen.

When Nunez is facing a defender in the box, I'm yet to be convinced of his ability to outmaneuver the opponent and create significant chances — something I haven't observed him accomplish yet. While his passing and link-up play have improved significantly, often lacks the finesse we're accustomed to with Firmino. I'm not overly concerned about him missing chances; as long as he's creating opportunities, I'm confident the goals will come. However, for him to truly excel and fulfill his potential, enhancing his link-up play is crucial.

16.) 08 Jan 2024 17:57:28
LFCDas comparing Firmino and Nunez is like comparing apples with oranges.

They are completely different players with completely different skill sets. Bobby came to us as a 10 and was never an out and out number 9. He played the false 9 because he was intelligent and had good ability on the ball to drop deep and pull people around.

Nunez is an out and out 9. He’s very much on the shoulder of the last defender which is why he is offside so often. He’s all power and pace and bullies defenders often creating chances that others would not be able to create.

Nunez is a monster, Bobby was an artist.

To be fair, Bobby was always criticised for not scoring enough even though that wasn’t really his role in the team. One thing I am sure of though, is if Nunez is with us as long as Bobby was he will score a lot more goals than Bobby did.

17.) 08 Jan 2024 18:22:26
BP, more like apples to pineapples. One is an out and out CF with immense ability and versatility and oh, a record of having bagged 34 goals in 39 games (26 in the League) in one season where he was Player Of The Year and won Benfica a league title in the season before he signed for us.

The other is a brilliant no. 10 converted into a false 9 and my goodness, the best "false 9" I have ever seen as he was literally "Poetry in motion". Come on, do better LFC DAS.

18.) 08 Jan 2024 18:25:02
"Honestly I didn't have the FA cup as a priority but Klopp quite rightly chose to keep collecting the memories. This new squad is racking up the experiences and big moments at record speed. "

This!

19.) 08 Jan 2024 19:00:47
Nunez has been very unlucky IMO - he’s near the top of the league for shots taken which reflects his strikers instincts and ability to get into dangerous positions and pull the trigger, and he almost always makes clean contact, hits it hard, close or at the goal, yet it’s not dropping in and he’s been the victim of some incredible saves.

My own view is he has all the raw materials and it’ll click one day and he’ll be a top striker, all it needs is a bit more experience and confidence, but I do also wish someone would tell him to hit it low in the corners. He tends to hit it high a lot which looks spectacular, but I far prefer when strikers hit it low, it reduces the risk of blasting it over the bar or letting keepers make reaction saves with their hands.

20.) 08 Jan 2024 19:10:28
Suarez first full season.11 goals. Next season.41.

When Nunez starts to bang them in he will be glorious. For now he has to play cos he makes things happen although I do like him on the left he gives torres vibes but ill trust in klopps expertise.

As for the media. they can suck eggs because when do they ever give any of ours the respect they are due. apparently reece James and walker and tripper are still better rb than trent.

21.) 08 Jan 2024 19:49:56
@BeckersPecker: My knowledge of football is not great as yours. Please pardon my naivety for that. I really don't understand systems, or who is bought to do what.

I tend to compare players in 'similar positions' and how effective they are. But I agree it isn't the right thing to do.

I hope your prediction of "if Nunez is with us as long as Bobby was he will score a lot more goals than Bobby did" comes true. I really want it to happen, but his current goal scoring form has to significantly improve!

22.) 08 Jan 2024 20:48:38
As Klopp said, the other team is playing too and there are moments in games we have to dig in and survive.

For Nunez, he may be lacking confidence in front of goal but I’m seeing no evidence whatsoever that that has impacted the rest of his game. Others you may see drop their heads and strop around but Nunez doesn’t stop. He is an absolute must in the team as we don’t have another striker like him. The other attackers can all adapt around him and adjust depending on matchups.

23.) 08 Jan 2024 20:52:08
I just remember seeing gomez try and shot from range thinking of ed001 last review ?.

24.) 09 Jan 2024 15:44:14
I fully expect Nunes to succeed at Liverpool, and if he was reading this I would offer him this advice. If you want to score great goals, always try and bend them round the keeper into the top corner. If you want to be a great goal scorer "hard and low is the way to go"
I want him to be a great goal scorer.

25.) 09 Jan 2024 16:11:00
I’d play him on the left and tell him just to enjoy himself.

I honestly don’t think he is a natural taker of chances and I don’t think you can be taught that, but it might help his self-confidence if the centre forward (and expected primary goal scorer) tag were taken away from him for a while.

08 Jun 2023 17:32:08
You have to love liverpool fans sometimes. Some people have already posted a song for Alexis Mac Allister

(to the music of "Ecuador" by Sash! )

Jurgen said "I've seen ya, winning with Argentina"
"I need a centre mid too" and so he sent a bid through
and now we've got Alexis - Alexis is magestic!
Mac Allister is magic - he's red and it's fantastic!
lah lah lah lah lah lah lah
lah lah lah lahl lah lah lah
(and so it goes on)

Not a completely horrific song only one day after signing the lad (not amazing either)!

Red Sandman

1.) 08 Jun 2023 18:12:34
BTW, that song was created by ChatGPT!

Not a bad effort at all!

2.) 08 Jun 2023 18:21:59
If you believe the original Twitter threads that was created by ChatGPT. It’s a banger as well to to be fair.

Liverpool used the chorus for this in their teaser this morning.

3.) 08 Jun 2023 18:41:27
If we have to stoop to AI creating songs for our players, what does that say about our fans?

4.) 08 Jun 2023 19:33:09
Gonna have to Spotify that, man.

5.) 08 Jun 2023 19:46:46
That we're morphin into Man U fans bakedbean?.

6.) 09 Jun 2023 07:45:47
In fairness other clubs come up with some bangers as well.

Just watched a video of West Ham’s trophy parade and there’s thousands of Hammer fans chanting

Bowen’s one fire
And he’s sh##ging Danni Dyer ?

To the old tune of freed from desire.

7.) 09 Jun 2023 13:39:12
You think Bowen would be able to afford two fires with the money he earns.

06 Jun 2023 14:30:23
Ed001 if you are around,

With Milner leaving the club this summer, what are your thoughts on the current leaders in the Liverpool squad? Hendo isn't getting any younger, people have concerns on VVD's ability declining, and with none of the players that we are being linked to seeming to be a future captain type (like Jude may have been), do you think we run the risk of not having some proper leaders in our squad for the coming season?

Red Sandman

{Ed001's Note - I wouldn't have said van Dijk was a leader personally. Alisson you seem to have forgotten. I do think it is an issue though, but I think Trent and Robertson are leaders. I also think Mac Allister could become a leader, though I dont see him as captain material.}

1.) 06 Jun 2023 15:53:10
I don't see Trent as a leader to be fair. I don’t remember him being very vocal at all. Robertson yes.

2.) 06 Jun 2023 16:25:07
Robbo and VVD definitely. I think the lack of height could be a potential issue if Fab and Hendo aren’t going to play much.

3.) 06 Jun 2023 17:27:57
Cheers Ed001. The reason I ask mostly comes out of Milner leaving. I’m not sure if you watch much of the content that LFC put out on YouTube, but they did a recent vid asking all the current squad about him and his impact on the team and he really did seem like he was an absolute professional and leader and helped the team cultivate that winning mentality. I just worry a bit about him leaving (along with other leaders getting older etc) that we will miss a bit of an extra edge next season.

Is there any player who fits the leader mould that you would want us to sign (other than Jude that is! )

{Ed001's Note - Gvardiol, hence why he is the other I was so keen on.}

4.) 06 Jun 2023 17:36:33
I've never really seen Van Dijk as a leader. Robbo definitely but once Nunez gets to know the language and can chanel his aggression maybe him and also Diaz doesn't seem to mind sharing an opinion and tends to lead by example as in leaving nothing on the pitch.

5.) 06 Jun 2023 17:57:00
Got the feeling Gakpo might grow into a leader next season.
He’s got something about him and he might just grab the bull by the Nuts and be like, this is my club, new era, let’s get back to the top.
Hope so anyway.

6.) 06 Jun 2023 18:57:22
Good call lfc8 as regards gakpo, seemed bit tentative when he first signed but he does seem to have a strong and good character.

7.) 06 Jun 2023 19:01:29
We have a lot of leaders on our team even Bobbie was a leader and a role model in his own right with the way he carried himself thu out his time here hence, the type of send-off he got. Im not worried about leadership within the squad.

As for who will be capt? Trent would be a good shout. Wouldn't have VVD anywhere near the arm band as a full time capt. as he tends to carry it as a hinderence to his game and actually plays worse when he has it on as capt. for the day. Just my take.

8.) 06 Jun 2023 19:05:43
I'm kind of surprised that Salah is never considered for the Captain or vice-captains positions, and I always wonder why? Leadership on the field entails always being the example, having an excellent work ethic, putting in the necessary effort and determination and being the manager's "man" on the field in terms of tactics and strategy. He doesn't have to be the best player in the team. If this is accurate, I don't see why Salah doesn't qualify. We all know he is always present in training, has missed only 3 games in 6 years (that's incredible once you think about it), puts in the effort on the field (hates being taken off) and is well liked by his team mates. He has a calmness about him that tells you how professional he is about the game (when have you seen him lash out after a foul or roll around like a limb has been broken? The only negatives that possibly work against him is that he is soft spoken, is not a screamer and many accuse him of some "selfishness". I don't buy the selfishness thing one bit; for me, he's doing his job. He's there to put the ball in the net not give out assists; there are others whose job that is. His salary package doesn't reflect a player who's supposed to spray in crosses and assists.

I agree with the Alisson, Roberstson and VVD candidacies too. No major doubts about them, for me. Just don't understand why Salah is not included in the conversation.

9.) 06 Jun 2023 19:14:17
Think Gvardiol would be the dream. Shame really.

10.) 06 Jun 2023 19:31:15
ArAy1969 scoring goals is hard enough as it is without wearing the arm band and he's still our main goal threat. But totally agree with the points about his character. I suppose many things make a leader. I remember when Gerrard got the arm band but some people thought Carragher should have got it. He was the more vocal but Gerrard was so inspirational on the pitch that it had to be him. Eyebrows were raised when Henderson took over but he was a great example on the pitch and by all accounts in the dressing room to.

11.) 06 Jun 2023 23:57:09
Difficult for Salah to be an effective on-field captain when he can spend much of the game not involved.

12.) 07 Jun 2023 07:20:28
VVD is the type of leader that other players will look to. Whether that means he is a "leader" or not under your definition, he has that kind of standing in the team from what I can tell.

13.) 07 Jun 2023 11:12:13
I can agree on the points around Salah. But my thoughts have always been that your striker should not be your captain unless in special circumstances, where it is clear and obvious they are the ones leading the team.
I think Kane can be used as a good example on the international stage but often if your striker is having an off day and not playing well/ getting bullied/ sided out of the game and simply not having any impact. Then you’re almost in a situation of playing with 10 men as managers would not like to drop their captain. Or if they are to sub them, it isn’t until 60/ 70 minutes.

I think a captain should be someone who can have eyes on the entire game, either in the middle or from the back, they can see what’s going on.
A strikers role is to score and win the game, having the added pressure of managing the team would be too much, and if they’re not scoring or on a bad run. You’re stepping yourself up to fail.

For me, I think Alisson shows the best potential for captain for us, he has the experience, the character and oversight to see everything that’s going on and can be commanding. Robbo is another that is a good shout, but it will be hard to see if he is gunna get game time next season with the possible formation change. He is also a passionate player who wears his heart on his sleeve but it’s hard to know how good he would be as actual captain.

It will be interesting to see.

Ed001 - I hope you are having a lovely festive time in the Philippines.

What do you think we should do with Fabinho?

Do you think his recent dip in form is something permanent (and maybe why the club is looking at more defensive midfielders) or it's just temporary? Would you sell now for a higher value or stick with him knowing how good he can be?

{Ed001's Note - great thanks mate, it is a giant street party here.

It really depends on how we are going to play going forward. If we are going to have two physical players in front of him in midfield, with pace and energy, then he will be able to push up higher and be effective again. If not, then he will continue to struggle as he is not suited to this style of play. So it would come down to that as to whether I would stick with him or look to replace him completely.}

Thanks for the reply Ed001.

I have a few friends from the Philippines and they always rave about how great Christmas is over there being a mostly catholic country and all!

What would you do in Klopp’s position now with Fab then? We have Hendo and Thiago as our first choice midfield in front of of Fab, with Elliot coming through. Would you cash in on fab now and look to build a new midfield three or bring in some younger guns in front of him to keep his effectiveness up? Would Bellingham alone be enough to get Fab back to his best for another few years?

Red Sandman.

{Ed001's Note - it has been fantastic mate, I am worn out though as I have been running around trying to sort stuff for the kids. The parties are still going on but I am ready for my bed! Must be my age.

I would bring in Bellingham and Caicedo and then keep Fabs and use him and Thiago along with Elliott as a rotation to suit the opposition. That would give us the strength to give Thiago a break every now and then as well. For me he is the issue, he is so good but he doesn't fit perfectly with Fabinho, so you can't really play them together and expect it to work as well. I would prefer to see him with a pair from Caicedo, Bellingham and Henderson really. The higher energy and intensity of those would allow him to press higher and that is when he works best. He is a sweeper in midfield.}

2.) 24 Dec 2022 19:19:39
Totally agree with that midfield synopsis, and I hope to goodness that Liverpool get a couple of athletic signings as it feels like the balance is wrong at the moment, particularly when Henderson is not playing.

3.) 24 Dec 2022 20:27:51
Love the reply Tris. Wishing you and your loved ones a very merry Christmas.

It’s honestly mental to think I’ve been visiting this site for over 10 years. Really grateful for what you and the team have made. I think I speak on behalf of everyone when I say you’ve been a massive positive on our lives so really a massive thank you from the bottom of my heart. Especially throughout lockdown when things weren’t all that great in the world. Whether it was the site or your podcasts you and the team really were were amazing.

To you and all the Eds I really wish you the best and long may this site continue.

Red Sandman

Ps Ed0025 if you are reading this - you are a true gem sir. Never stop.

{Ed025's Note - god willing i will still be around for a while yet sandman, cheers mate and a merry christmas to you all..

4.) 24 Dec 2022 22:26:55
And he might have magical powers.

5.) 24 Dec 2022 22:25:02
Great insight Ed01, thanks for sharing an insight into how the midfield could / should work. I’ve been watching for 50 plus years and just don’t have a clue about how to set up a team to play to the players’ strengths.

Ed025 - hang in there mate by the time we are 125 you can come on here and gloat about your boys winning the Northern Section of the Autovans trophy ?? In the meantime keep winding us up, it really is appreciated.

{Ed025's Note - I will try my best WDW. Cheers mate and merry Christmas..

Happy Friday all

Thought I would start a conversation on who our most successful loan signing of all time has been given the news of Arthur joining the ranks.

For me it has to be Javier Mascherano? From what I can remember we haven't signed many (if any? ) loan signings onto a permanent deal so I think that gives him an automatic win!

Anelka all day.

2.) 02 Sep 2022 14:25:23
Rosenthal was loan initially wasn't he? Along with Kabak, he's the only other one that was in anyway successful I can think of.

The likes of Sahin, Cissokho, Moses and Caulker weren't exactly stellar. I suppose when we signed Paul Jones on loan cos we had no fit goalies he did alright.

3.) 02 Sep 2022 14:25:51
I agree with you Sandman. I think Anelka's a close second. My memory may be failing me, but didn't we sign Diouf instead of taking up the option of signing Anelka? What a great piece of business that was.

Like you say, we've not had many. We were after Sahin for ages, but we finally got him on loan and he ended up being a sack of spuds.

4.) 02 Sep 2022 14:41:50
Yep anelka. never got a full deal because houllier wanted el hadj diouf instead. crazy.

5.) 02 Sep 2022 14:46:58
Technical default Rushie signed for Juve but stayed on loan with us in 86/ 87.

42 appearances 30 goals.

Other than that I’d go Anelka also. Going through the archives it’s not exactly stacked full of top quality loans mind.

6.) 02 Sep 2022 14:51:37
Kabak was successful?

Mascherano is a good shout. He did well for us but his best Liverpool moment came when he was at Barca. They'd just outplayed United to win the CL final and he mentioned us post match and the look on Gary Neville's face in the studio was priceless ?.
We had some midfield when he was with us.
He had a great song, too.

7.) 02 Sep 2022 15:35:26
Forgot Anelka tbh. Kabak did alright considering the circumstances, imo. But Mascher and Anelka were a few steps ahead performance wise.

8.) 02 Sep 2022 23:40:43
Anelka, for sure.

I’m a big fan of this site. But it does feel like things are more toxic than they’ve ever been. May be time for a wee break from my daily visit.

why the FSG out brigade Davey when FSG are not the ones negotiating the deals? Why the FSG out brigade when they aren't the ones who decide the targets or the back up targets?

Cheers Ed002. Does that mean the interest from Liverpool might be genuine? I guess he would be an alternative to Lavia and Andre?

Red Sandman

{Ed002's Note - I have explained the interest for a couple of months but he is not a DM player.

Where abouts in the Middle East are you thinking of moving to, Tris?

Red Sandman

{Ed001's Note - back to Dubai. My bank account etc are all still out there and my aunt and uncle are moving out there as well. Expensive to live but you can live cheaply if you know how. People get into the trap of living the Dubai nightlife and eating out every night etc. If you are not doing that, it is not so bad. Certainly no more expensive than some parts of England.}

time for Beck and Bradley to step up. isn't this the point of the academy? We can't just stack our squad for when the inevitable injuries happen mid season. I am beyond excited to see how these young lads do with the opportunity!

On the CB front, if any of our CBs do get injured we have Phillips back from loan who can do a job.

For left back we now also have Beck in the squad after a very successful loan spell by all accounts.

Whats the point of the academy if we don't give these guys a chance when we have an injury crisis?

Red Sandman

{Ed025's Note - i agree RS..

I think the key will be to go at them hard straight from the first whistle. Don't let them get any rhythm in the game. Heavy metal football at its finest!

all it takes is a loss in Europe when we don't play a full strength team for the Klopp out brigade to turn up!
