Sunday Mirror reporting that we've enquired about Adama Traore. Wouldn't Wolves want £70m+ for him? How can we afford him when we can't afford the £53m for Werner?

RHLT

{Ed002's Note - If Liverpool are interested he would be a Salah replacement I would think.}

1.) 07 Jun 2020 11:19:33
Nah can’t be any truth in this, just can’t be.

2.) 07 Jun 2020 11:19:47
5 goals and 10 assists in 94 games? That Traore? A replacement for Salah with 72 goals and 25 assists in 113 games?

I like Traore and I'd take him at the club to replace say Shaqiri or Origi. I trust Klopps judgement and ability to improve players. But if he replaces Salah, one of the top 5 forwards in the world, with a one trick Olympic sprinter then he's mental.

Traore isn't even in the top 50 forwards in the world. In fact he's only the 3rd best forward at Wolves.

{Ed002's Note - He is an outright RW so not a replacement for Shaqiri or Origi, and he would expect to be a starter.}

3.) 07 Jun 2020 11:34:49
£70m transfers aren’t happening this window. End of story. If we’re not going to spend £45-50m on a 25 goal a season forward, then there’s absolutely no way we’re spending £70m on a forward who scores less and creates less.

4.) 07 Jun 2020 11:43:08
Something is afoot here. One of the front 3 is definitely leaving I think as any player we're linked with won't be happy to sit on the bench. Either that or Firmino will play as an attacking midfielder.

5.) 07 Jun 2020 11:55:21
Backwards stop if true 🤦🏻‍♂️.

6.) 07 Jun 2020 12:29:36
It LFC rumours page, why question too much about Traore's rumour?
Me I enjoy the rumours.

7.) 07 Jun 2020 12:45:34
His stats aren't great, but neither were Salah's until he came to us.

8.) 07 Jun 2020 12:58:46
Let's face it, will only happen if Salah leaves, and no one is in the position to pay 100m+ at the moment for salah.

9.) 07 Jun 2020 13:30:23
Actually Mikey, you’d find that Salah was very very consistent with Roma’s in Serie A, regularly scoring double figures for goals and assists, so to say “neither were Salah’s” could not be wider of the mark.

It is absolutely clear to anyone that Salah’s goal and assists return was very impressive in the two years before he joined us. In fact it was more impressive than Paulo Dybala.

10.) 07 Jun 2020 15:27:36
Can't be that bad a player if Robertson came out recently and said he gave him the runaround. Not many players do that.

11.) 07 Jun 2020 16:11:51
No one said he was a bad player, however it’s fair to say that he lacks the end product to be a suitable replacement for either Salah or Mane. He can be unstoppable when he runs at someone but he doesn’t really have much in the way of finesse.

12.) 07 Jun 2020 16:28:37
Spot on 6 times. I think if Klopp switched to the 442 from 2017 where we won a couple of games 7-0 it would work with Traore on the right, Mane left, and Salah up front with Bobby.

But in the 433 we currently play Traore would be an atrocious direct replacement. Salah doesn't really play as a right winger. He drifts inside so Hendo and/ or Arnold can overlap and get balls into the box. Right wing is just a position you stand at kick off; positions are fallacies nowadays. Salah plays higher up than any other player in our team to the point he's basically a striker who just starts out from the right channel.

Traore will not match the goal return Salah gives us short or long term. He's a good player but people have Match of the Day fever because his blistering pace makes him look good against Liverpool and Man City's high defensive lines.

If Klopp wants him to change system or give us a better impact sub fair enough but he is not even remotely similar to Salah. Where he stands at kick off is irrelevant.

13.) 07 Jun 2020 16:32:59
Out of that Wolves team I’d rather we went for Jota, there is a player there who can step to the next level.

14.) 07 Jun 2020 19:00:58
Sunday Mirror. 🤷🏼‍♂️.

15.) 07 Jun 2020 21:14:09
PB, increasingly there isn’t ‘a system’, it’s a much more flexible approach now.
And this is where someone like Werner or Traore could fit in with differing formations.
Having said that, as much as I like him, I don’t see Liverpool paying £70m odd or whatever.

16.) 07 Jun 2020 21:22:18
I’d say it would be likely Dembele on loan with option to buy season after next.

There’s no big fees this window for me unless Carlos happens with Shaqiri going other way plus cash.

17.) 07 Jun 2020 21:52:01
I can’t see the Dembele happening as Barcelona want cash now, not in 12 months time notwithstanding the fact he’s almost permanently injured as he’d be a waste of a salary being In the physios more than on the pitch . I can however see us making a move for Ryan Fraser from Bournemouth on a free.

18.) 11 Jun 2020 02:51:50
Bang on plain bread. I think traore is the most overrated misunderstood player around, people get so excited by his pace and ignore everything else. I wouldn't pay half the price talked about and definately wouldn't want him relied to be taking first 11 responsibility. It's always been the same with wingers like bolasie, Valencia, Jesus navas, Aaron Lennon, wilf zaha, Nathan Redmond that people see them as better footballers than they actually are just because they can run beyond a FB.

27 May 2020 12:46:48
So, the latest rumour is that Klopp has personally phoned Adama Traore of Wolves to see if he fancies joining us this summer. Isn't this an illegal approach/ tapping up?

RHLT

{Ed002's Note - It would be without the agreement of Wolves but am not aware of it happening.}

1.) 27 May 2020 13:15:36
ed002 do you think the club pays Klopps phone bill as it must be massive lol.

2.) 27 May 2020 20:09:59
Hopefully he’s tap dancing.

3.) 27 May 2020 23:18:11
A few more media outlets are reporting the story now.

4.) 31 May 2020 17:46:56
I really like Adama Traore. He's gone from just being a sprinter with no end product, to fantastic strong player with skill, power and pace.

I do think it however makes no sense unless Salah is leaving. I'm not just playing the "if we sign a top player, we have to sell one" brigade. We have Salah playing there and doing great right now, and Elliott as his long term replacement (who looks the real deal) who will get a lot more substitute appearances next season. It just doesn't make sense to sign a right winger for 50mil+.

19 May 2020 23:00:01
I've read that we are battling Man City and Man U for the transfer of Adama Traore from Wolves. Is there any truth in this and if so, who does he replace in the team? there's been talk of one of Salah or Mane leaving at the end of the season.

RHLT

{Ed002's Note - I would not see Mane or Salah leaving this summer - nor Traore arriving.}

1.) 19 May 2020 23:45:54
Thought as much. Usual clickbait nonsense.

2.) 20 May 2020 12:57:36
Ed002, do you reckon it's the financial impact of the virus that may prevent bids for Mane/ Salah? I have no doubt that the quoted prices would be stupendous.

Good news in many ways as clubs may find their age Vs cost a bit high by the time we get to the start of the 21/ 22 (both be 29 I think) season meaning we'll have seen them through their peak years.

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any sides looking to make offers for either player as it stands Johnny.}

The PL have decided to implement VAR using full FIFA protocols instead of IFAB.

Any idea what that entails Ed?

RHLT

{Ed002's Note - The only technical difference that will be noted is that VAR will be used for checks on GK offences at penalties (moving both feet from their line). The idea is to have consistency across countries.}

1.) 06 Aug 2020 18:18:41
Ed02, we can only hope.

2.) 06 Aug 2020 21:17:32
I wish they would do something about diving in the penalty box. Perhaps allow the use of VAR to judge the extent of play acting and then take appropriate measures.

3.) 07 Aug 2020 12:35:38
They need to change the rule about var not being able to get involved if a ref gives a yellow card, especially a 2nd yellow. Chelsea were robbed in the fa cup final.

{Ed002's Note - That is not going to happen unfortunately but I agree it makes sense for some to be able to say "hang on".}

4.) 07 Aug 2020 13:38:17
I know ed02, it really makes no sense in my mind. I can't understand how they came to that decision. Not wanting to slow the game down I guess. Perhaps they worry that every single yellow will end up getting scrutinised, and sometimes the number of yellows in a game goes into double figures. That could be 20 minutes added on if they take two minutes to check 10 yellows. People would miss the antiques roadshow.

28 Jul 2020 21:16:46
Ed, do you know if the inconsistencies of VAR are due to be discussed at the next meeting. I ask because it has been documented that Liverpool would be 5 points worse off whilst some teams are 7 points worse off than if VAR wasn't in use. I've also read that Bournemouth are looking at legal action against those behind VAR to compensate for loss of earnings after the ghost goal Sheff Utd scored against Villa ultimately cost them a place in the PL and VAR admitted getting wrong.

RHLT

{Ed002's Note - It is not the responsibility of the PL to discuss more than using it or not. People perhaps do not understand the operating principle of percentage of ball in view or accuracy. I have already addressed the Bournemouth issue.}

1.) 29 Jul 2020 00:00:23
The only analysis should be of the tones var got it wrong. If we benefited because bar intervened to correct a decision, then what's the issue?

2.) 29 Jul 2020 07:12:49
How many more incorrect decisions would there have been had we not had VAR?

{Ed025's Note - i get that rigsby, but the thing is that there should be none when you have supposed experts reviewing all controversial decisions mate....but it did work in liverpools favour so im not surprised your an advocate.. :)

3.) 29 Jul 2020 07:34:54
All 'controversial' decisions? It'd depend on how you define a controversial decision and whether you could arrive at the correct decision.
I'd get rid of it, myself, because it could never showed Bryan Hamilton's arm brushing the ball in 1977 anyway.

{Ed025's Note - nice comeback rigsby mate.. :)

4.) 29 Jul 2020 07:36:26
VAR as implemented in the PL, is a disaster and that was clear from jump. You cannot have essentially two refs officiating a game where the VAR can overrule the officiating ref in the pitch during an incident.

The ref on the pitch should be allowed to go see the play himself so if he still gets it wrong, he can be held accountable. Why this was not the case in the PL still baffles me.

However, there are improvements that VAR can make so as to make it more effective and hopefully those improvements can b made cos like it or not, VAR is here to stay.

28 Jun 2020 23:14:01
Ed, can you clear something up for me please.

On the Aston Villa site, someone is claiming that they have a good source at Liverpool and state that Jurgen is contracted until 2023 and is looking to take the German National job.

Is there any substance to this?

RHLT

{Ed002's Note - His contract runs to 2024.}

1.) 29 Jun 2020 09:40:00
By 2024 (4 years away) Klopp will have served for 8 full seasons.

Impossible to begrudge him his home countries national job. The guys a living legend.

Hopefully Pepjin Lijnders will be ready for the hot seat by then!

{Ed025's Note - good No2,s rarely make good managers HMB, i remember colin harvey at everton replacing kendall and everyone saying how well he would do and it never happened for him, kidd at united and city the list is very long, never say never but it is seldom the case mate..

2.) 29 Jun 2020 10:55:08
Never say never but by all accounts from what we have read, Linders is a very intelligent man and is behind a lot of Klopp’s tactical success after Buvac. He will have been learning on the job for years that point, he isn’t just some managers enforcer who puts the cones out, he really does seem to be the one who would be best placed to take over. While there are lots of examples of number 2’s taking over and it not working, there are equally lots of examples of it turning out okay. Liverpool built their entire dynasty on number 2’s taking over from their predecessor. Flick at Bayern has done fantastically well this season. Vilanova was a very good coach and would have done brilliant at Barca, god rest his soul. It definitely can work the way it is intended to, you just have to make sure that the assistant has what it takes and is not just a Steve McClaren or Mike Phelan! I think if you asked everybody within the club who they would want to take over if Klopp suddenly left tomorrow, i am confident almost all would say Linders.

3.) 29 Jun 2020 12:24:34
I’m not sure anyone can replace what Klopp offers. No one can replicate his personality and unlikely anyone could offer as much enthusiasm and positivity in his role.
The tactics and strategies are easy to learn compared to being able to drive your team to victory when they are 3-0 down.

4.) 29 Jun 2020 09:57:34
Leipzig manager maybe, can't see Gerrard being the next manager but hopefully if alls going well klopps might extend his contract further. and Ed 25 what about Steve mcclaren, won the Dutch league and was fluent in Dutch by the time he did his first interview :)

{Ed025's Note - i remember that well gmil, i was shouting at the screen "WHAT ARE YOU DOING YOU IDIOT", i was embarrassed for him mate.. :)

5.) 29 Jun 2020 10:10:59
Very true 25. But also, look at the old boot room. Shankley, Paisley, Fagan, Dalglish etc. If internal promotion is done properly, it can work.

You are right though. If Pep is not ready by that time or simply not right for the job, he shouldn't get it.

I really just hope it's not Gerrard purely off the back of who he is. He's doing a pathetic job at Rangers if anybody is prepared to be honest with themselves. No clear style of play, no direction, no plan for long term/ sustainable success, and relying massively on his contacts in English football to get signings he others would not be able to broker. Don't even get me started on his Brendan-esque interviews. I have my doubts that he'll win anything up there to be honest. He's put far too much stock in that over rated red card liability up front.

Replacing Klopp will be a monumental task and its critical we don't get all sentimental!

{Ed025's Note - they are fair points mate..

6.) 29 Jun 2020 10:25:43
Bob Paisley Ed?

{Ed025's Note - im not saying it never happens B47, paisley was an awesome manager mate but one of very few..

25 Jun 2020 16:19:53
Hi Ed's. Quick question for you all. Is their a credible source that you know of that actually has any information regarding comings and goings at Anfield. Everyday there seems to be some make belief story about big money signings which we all know ain't going to happen. Is there anyone we ordinary fans could follow on social media that is trustworthy?

RHLT

{Ed002's Note - I cannot help you with social media I am afraid.}

1.) 25 Jun 2020 16:27:31
I think it’s a good thing that the club don’t let out any information. Keep it all in house and make the papers make up all the rubbish.

2.) 25 Jun 2020 16:51:08
Why ask this question when Ed2 knowledge is right here on these pages?

3.) 25 Jun 2020 18:02:10
I know Eds knowledge is 2nd to none. What I'm asking is do the club have an official media contact who is told of possible transfers. I'm just sick and tired of the constant regurgitation of complete lies in the media.

{Ed002's Note - The club have moved away from leaking information to the media to unsettle players after being warned a couple of years ago.}

4.) 25 Jun 2020 18:16:23
Take everything with a pinch of salt, on social media and the press. Even Ed002 is often out of the loop with Liverpool's transfers nowadays.

5.) 25 Jun 2020 18:57:44
OP, you can always consult with that Fat Kid From Bolton on Twitter. I hear he is quite on the level with inside info regarding LFC transfers. At least, that's what Ed02 keeps saying, lol.

6.) 25 Jun 2020 19:25:48
Wait for that lean at Melwood, until you know for definite a player is coming. Other than that, I'd stick with the Eds to give us what we like to know, as far as they can tell us anyway! Oh and like what's been said, the club aren't being as open as they used to be, as Ed has explained, so most Twitter accounts are just guessing or it's clickbait!

21 Jun 2020 22:06:52
The press really are working overtime now. The latest is that we are going to pay £50 and give PSG Sadio Mane in exchange for Kylian Mbappe and then pay him £500k a week. It just makes me laugh that the media can write what they want with no substance behind it.

RHLT

1.) 21 Jun 2020 22:53:46
Its really ridiculous that theybare allowed to just publish utter lies and make money from them.

2.) 22 Jun 2020 00:18:24
It makes me laugh that people read it.

3.) 22 Jun 2020 07:32:03
People read it coz they think there is a truck load of money in the bank and until lately we all thought winning the CL, getting 97 points plus Nike deal and not spending a penny last year while selling all the fringe players for a good profit would set us financially in excellent position.

4.) 22 Jun 2020 08:14:58
It's even funnier that some people read it and instantly believe it.
