Hi all,

I was thinking about the CL comeback against Barcelona and the performance of Origi and Shaq. They both were very rusty due to lack of game time throughout the season, so can t really blame them for it. I see Cornet has been linked to us as back up to the front three, but with him being 22 (younger than both Origi and Shaq), I don t see it being any better for us or for him, as he hasn’t gotten more than 1200 min for Lyon, doubt he ll get more with out front three, thus he ll spend a lot on the bench, losing whatever good form he might have.
I was thinking as a back-up to our front three, a more experienced and confident forward who s played for a big team should be the one. Although he hasn’t been the best performer for Chelsea as a starter, at his age less minutes might be what Willian needs, as he has the pace, the work rate and the ability to cut inside from both wings.

What are your thoughts reds and Eds, i d like to hear all of your opinions.

Have a good day,
Q.

1.) 18 Jul 2019 10:47:39
I wouldn't moan if he joined.

2.) 18 Jul 2019 10:51:42
the line "althought he hasn't been the best performer at chelsea" sums up why this wouldnt' work.

3.) 18 Jul 2019 11:00:34
I get what you are saying Quaterrius but Cornett is of interest to us and Klopp so we need to trust his thoughts. I’m sure if he arrives Klopp will turn him into a better player. A more experienced forward like Pépé for example would cost crazy money and wouldn’t come as a back up player therefore meaning one needs to leave.

Think we need to accept that Cornett is s serious target and support it.

4.) 18 Jul 2019 12:35:53
OP, Willian is 8 years older than Cornet, 6 years older than Orig and 4 older than Shaq so to me, getting him in at crazy wages while being on his last legs football-wise, makes very little sense on of football and business level. Cornet is only 22 has CL/ international experience with Lyon and the Ivory Coast and we all know that Klopp likes to work with younger, talented players so again, Willian would make no sense here, IMO.

Cornet is a very good player as I have watched him several times. He did not get a lot of game time last season and told the media that Lyon were ready to let him go. He a decent tally of goals and assists for one who was not playing a lot and did I also mention that he ripped City a new one in both CL games last season?

At 22, he is ripe for Klopp to work with and improve his game which I think, Klopp is keen on him and if Klopp likes what he has seen of him then he must be a good fit for us. Btw, he will not be the only other option for the front three as there is Shaq and Origi who can step in. Just my opinion.

5.) 19 Jul 2019 10:18:03
So Salah my friend, just curiosity, who makes you moan exactly? (Please keep the response PG rated) .

6.) 19 Jul 2019 18:56:26
I agrre salah. I wouldn't moan if we signed him. And say what you like about him and chelsea but they have won the premier league.

Good day,

As the transfer window has been rather quiet, the enjoyment comes from the Eds’ personal opinions which seem the more realistic. With Lazaro joining Inter, who does Ed002 think would now be a viable option to push Trent for the RB spot? Maybe even an option for both flanks? Anyway hope all is well!

Thank you,
Q.

Quaterrius

{Ed002's Note - Lukas Klostermann is the pick of versatile defenders but like many others would not move to sit on the bench.}

1.) 17 Jul 2019 11:48:58
Thanks Ed,

Wasn’t the talk abt a player who d compete with the fullbacks for a starting spot? If so it seems the youth are promising enough to sit on the bench. Do you have an idea of maybe a Millie type player for fullbacks who would be fine with being a sub?

Have a good one.

{Ed002's Note - No, sorry.}

2.) 17 Jul 2019 13:54:19
Why would any team or squad want a player that's "happy to be a sub"?

3.) 17 Jul 2019 15:19:20
It surprises me that we haven’t had more full backs linked to us. Seem to be linked with every midfield and wide player in the world but less so in defence. Obviously we have Gomez and Milner who have played there and maybe we are waiting on what Lewis and Larouci can show. I think Hoever will play right back when/ if he reaches first team level, with Gomez, Van Den Berg, Matip, Lovren all blocking his immediate path and no sign of moving any of them on this season, but he is so young right now. Perhaps he’ll play centre back when, in his own words, he’s hit the gym for a few years and Matip or Lovren moves away.

There also Kenny Lala who we’ve watched who does and has played both full back positions at about a ratio of 2:1 right back versus left back; he would also not move to sit on a bench. Will be interesting to see what happens. I think Clyne will stay and Milner will cover the other side personally.

4.) 17 Jul 2019 18:47:22
Thats the trouble isn't it, finding good players who are willing to be a bit part player. Although any player deemed good enough for liverpool atm should have the self belief that they can make the first team. Probably unpopular and a bit selfish on my part but i don't see us picking up a second rb better than clyne. Infact clyne is good enough to be starting for a premier league team.

{Ed025's Note - if that premier league side is norwich you may be right robbie, he is awful mate..

5.) 17 Jul 2019 19:13:43
I dunno ed025. He was a liability a few years ago. But one thing I've learned this last 3/ 4 years is to trust klopp.

I wasn't sure when he signed the ox, same with robertson. I thought lallana had played his last liverpool game but actually played well when called upon. Klopp definitely improves players. Matip was subject to ridicule a year ago, now he is a champions league hero.

If he thinks clyne is good enough to challenge for a place then i will trust him. If not then I'll trust that too. There are a lot of players who have improved massively under klopp and co, why not NC?

{Ed025's Note - you have a point i suppose robbie, but i have to say i think hes a liability mate..just my opinion of course..

6.) 17 Jul 2019 19:59:02
Spot on, Ed25. Klopp has been trying to get rid of Clyne since he got here and that is why he fast-tracked TAA into the first team as quickly as he did. Clyne also made matters way worse for himself by not just being a poor player, but having and "unprofessional lifestyle" which clearly, peeved Klopp off.

Clyne did not play a single game for LFC until the Utd game and no games after that so that only supports the thought that he is still done with him. Clyne playing preseason games mean nothing cos even Markovic was playing and scoring in preseason even tho we all know we wanted rid. If Klopp wants to keep Clyne then fine but to me, that ship never even made it to the docks to even sail out of it.

7.) 18 Jul 2019 05:20:54
I feel the current market for FBs is terrible, that's why I'd only sign a RB or LB if smart value option is available. AWB 45 mil, trippier 22mil, mings 25mil, Tierney maybe 25. All the big PL clubs are in the market for FBs and the lack of quality currently has overpriced most players. I'd rather keep clyne for another year as Trent back up and let the young lads develop for a season playing u23s. Clyne is by no means great but for a back-up RB at 10-15 mil there aren't many superior alternatives. HG quota too if that even makes any difference currently.

I know it's also realistic that he wants to leave and also that klopp mightnt want him around. But we could do much worse than him as a back up I feel. Similar with mignolet as back up for another year. I know both would surely want to move though.

Hello everyone!

Ed002, have Liverpool shown any interest in Pablo Fornals? What about Depay? Also who do you think would be a good purchase for Liverpool’s AM and front three rotation?

Have a good day!

Quaterrius

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of any plans to rotate being offered up. Players being suggested like Barella, Brandt, Dybala, Pepe, Chiesa, Insigne, Werner etc. are not going to be looking to move anywhere as cover. Arnaut Danjuma Groeneveld, Wamangituka etc. might do. If Mane or Salah were to leave things will change.}

1.) 23 May 2019 19:37:43
Thanks for the reply Ed.
As you've given your opinion for the RB position, do you have anyone in mind who would suit Liverpool's needs?

{Ed002's Note - I guess the question is does TAA move in to midfield or not. Ed001 has suggested that he will in which case Liverpool need to loo for a first choice RB and common sense would suggest looking to Aaron Wan-Bissaka who has the benefit of being home grown and is available, at the right price. Further afield Nelson Samedo is available for sale or trade. If however TAA stays at RB and what is required is cover and versatility, then someone like Valencia's Daniel Wass could provide a James Milner type role very well - or perhaps a Stefan Lainer or Valentino Lazaro type who could provide cover on the right hand side.}

2.) 24 May 2019 21:12:53
AWB and NS would be excellent options for us however no doubt expensive. Regarding AWB has something changed Ed002 I was under the impression Palace did not want to sell him. Do they rightly beleive they can get a lot of money for him allow them to reinves? Is the player open to a move away?

{Ed002's Note - Nothing has changed - he is not moving to Liverpool.}

Quaterrius

1.) 22 Apr 2019 16:28:36
Excuse my ignorance, but who is the centre back Godfrey?

{Ed002's Note - It would be Ben Godfrey.}

2.) 22 Apr 2019 16:54:22
I can’t see matip leaving now, I think lovren will also stay, other than that I’d say spot on unless Fekir is signed over Brandt which I’d prefer as he is proven.

3.) 22 Apr 2019 16:54:47
Also gomes from Watford over heaton.

4.) 22 Apr 2019 17:22:11
I doubt we’d Be able to get Godfrey given he is about to be promoted with Norwich.

5.) 22 Apr 2019 17:25:23
lerchy, I was also thinking of Gomes but I remember him saying this was his last season and Gracia coming out and asking him to stay one more at Watford.

6.) 22 Apr 2019 20:56:20
Ed’s,

What is the opinion/ thoughts/ expectations of Lfc staff on the young Irish keeper which is posted in the Liverpool sightings page?

{Ed001's Note - don't know sorry.}

7.) 23 Apr 2019 00:24:28
It's Godfrey from Dad's Army and he'd be an improvement on both Lovren and Matip.
He could also have a word with his sister Dolly to provide further to provide further cover at centre half.

Thank you Ed!
Would that mean Gomez losing his starting spot or would Llorente come in as back up to him and Virgil, with one pf Lovren and Matip leaving either way?

Quaterrius

{Ed002's Note - One would expect someone to make way if Llorente were to join - and I would expect that to be Matip or Lovren. If Llorente were to arrive as a starter then I could only assume Gomez would simply be expected to provide cover for all defensive positions.}

Thank you for the info Ed. Although I have a q. Will Migs play the role of the older 3rd choice keeper, or will the youngsters fall back down the pecking order?

Good day.

Quaterrius

{Ed002's Note - No, nothing weird will be going on.}

First time poster here! Apparently Barcelona is in talks with PSG regarding Lucas Digne, and a €20m fee has been agreed. I guess that leaves just us and Spurs then.

Hi everyone,

As a Romanian I can hole heartedly say this U21 National team of ours is one of Romania’s best in our recent history. These young guys need playing time more than anything, and as much as I love Liverpool and want to see young talent coming in, a transfer to us would do them no favour. Imo they should all take Baluta as an example and settle for mid to bottom table teams willing to play youth or else stray away from the Prem and Europe’s elites.

I was personally thinking of Stefan Lainer of Salzburg as he is attacking-minded and has a good pass on him.
