Lots of reporting this afternoon Lemar has chosen Liverpool as his preferred destination. Eds do you think there is any mileage in a jan transfer or has this come from his agents office.

Seems to me that coutinho will go in the summer and it also seems to me from the players bought keita chamberlain and those linked goretzka draxler et am, he is looking to create a box to box midfield with a bit of size. Think Chelsea last year. Would seem to me that winaljdum, can, even henderson don't quite fit with an ultra flexible midfield like that. Any thoughts on this?

I’m not saying Goretzka is coming to us but perhaps some caution from your side wouldn’t go amiss. You were so adamant about VVD stating it was “obvious†which left you looking a bit daft.

I agree Can doesn't fit in.
However Henderson does. He is the most flexible midfielder we have currently. Capable of playing literally anywhere in midfield. Holding, box to box, attacking, or even out wide. Wijnaldum is a back up player at best in my opinion, but he is also very flexible. The trouble is he's just not that good.
I agree aside from that though. Chambo, Hendo and Keita all seem very flexible and capable of playing a more traditional midfielder role where they are expected to contribute offensively and defensively. It definitely looks as though that is what Klopp wants.
I fear that Henderson's injuries have finished him though. I think this hamstring injury might by the beginning of the end. Lallana is the same. They both miss half the season every year, and you can't build around players like that. I would keep them both around for experience and depth, but in terms of the first XI it's time to move on for me. Not because of lack of quality, but due to reliability. Sturridge has been available more often in the last 12 months than they have. Daniel Sturridge!

If Henderson’s done as much as his attitude is admirable we’re best moving him in. I think we’d struggle to find takers though regardless of his fitness. Our midfield is full but not quite what Klopp seems to want so will change it up I think.

Our centre midfield lacks quality we may well be packed with midfielders but how many are genuine top class?
87Red, there was very good reason to believe that we weren’t in the hunt for van Dijk, given that City had apparently made an offer and he was being offered to PSG and Barcelona (apparently? ) as well as our appalling actions in the summer.

Yyyaaaaawwwwnnnn! The uncertainty surrounding coutinho and can has great potential to derail a top 4 challenge.
It sends a better message now to sell coutinho with confidence and take the 140 mill. It says to the rest of the squad I trust you to get the job done re top 4.
If you look at klopps previous teams they were all about pace power and high press. If you look at the Keita buy to me he is looking that way again. He wants box to box midfielder. Coutinho is tricky and a genius at times but he does not fit with that future for me. Whereas salah mane and firmino do. So sell now and reinvest wisely in the summer.
Regards can I think that the lad has behaved well enough over this. I think he has made his intent clear to the club. Tbh If you look at the quality of midfield we are looking to create he won't get in it regularly in the future. He has moments of quality but not often enough. So for me heads off in the summer with a pat on the back and a thanks for your service.
May be it is just where I have worked but most folks working notice behave well and act professionally. Because it is wise never to fully close a door.

Only way he goes is if we have a high profile replacement on board.
Else we become desperate to buy and every player goes up 15 mill.
Vvd is a prime example of that soton got an extra 15 mill out of us because they knew we were separate to buy.
If it were me I would seek a Keita deal with Lemar or goretzka or pulisic or draxler and agree to let him go I summer.
Everybody wins in that. We pay a reasonable fee and look prudent in our dealings. Coutinho and Barcelona get their move.

I can only see us agreeing to sell coutinho now if we have a replacement already signed up and available now. Goretzka Lamar pulisic.
If not I reckon the only think we would agree to in this window is a sale in the summer.
To me that would still fit with the nike Barcelona website. Advanced shirt sales.
The danger in announcing a selling now or agreeing a sale in summer in advance of a high profile recruit is that Lemar goes from 80 to 100 pulisic 70 to 90. Because we need to replace. As already stated llallana and ox good but will they get us the ten wins 4 draws 3 defeats to get 75 points and the cl spot. Not sure!
So even if he does go I don't see it jan 2 and certainly not before a high profile recruit is signed up.
I don't see us changing our position from summer unless some or all of the above is in place.
It would make no sense to tough it out in sep then go soft in december.
