Im a Kloop fan, but I am starting to get worried about the state of our defense. Ben Mee had two great chances in the last few minutes of the game today. Klavan never even jumped or challenged him. And he gave away the first corner because he jumped and challenged Can his own teammate. And then we had Lovren falling over and miss kicking the ball in his own 6 yard box on Wednesday. How and why did kloop grant Lovren a new contract in the summer? Why is Klavan even at the club? VVD would have been a great signing but as soon as we apologised to Southampton and stopped our interest in him, why did kloop not sign another decent centre half. Shane Duffy? Michael Keane? Barzagli? Chellini? Bonucci? Howedes (For free)? We need a no nonsense centre half. When he is defending a corner he will win the header, when he has a 50/ 50 challenge he takes the ball and man. A proper old school defender. Like Hyypia/ Carragher/ Skrtel/ Lawrenson.

Will the likes of mane want to hang about to play in the same side as klavan.

Leo, none of the players (bar Bonnuci who was never coming to England as he rejected Chelsea twice) you mentioned would improve what we already have. If you just want us to sign a warm body at CB who will not improve us by a decent margin then, you are missing the point. I don't want someone who will come in and start making mistakes again and not be an upgrade. None of those are upgrades. Also, This is why Klopp thought he'd keep his powder dry and won't buy for the sake of it. Whether you agree or disagree, that is his stance.

Klopp gave Lovs a new contract cos he thought he would get VVD and place Lovren as 3rd choice, I think which is not a bad strategy, in the end. Klopp is trying to fix our issues BUT that is not what caused the draw yesterday. Look no further than our forward line, who were busy making poor decisions all over the pitch, Cou having SEVEN shots OFF target. There is where the issues currently lie cos we can't score goals right now, which is our strongest suit. That is where my concern is.

BingoRed, we gave Lovren a 100k a week contract to be a backup defender? That's just plain stupid. Probably the decision was made after Klopp illegally tapped up VVD around the same time and the club figured out the VVD deal would probably get screwed over.

Leo LFC, the options you suggested were either unattainable or just not good enough. But there were others that we could have got and are less error prone than Lovren and Klavan. Manolas, De VRij, Laporte all within our price range and good on the ball with fight in them.
What worries me most is Klopp's tendency to target players with a soft underbelly. Matip, Klavan, VVD as well. They are not particularly the hardened CBs that orchestrate the team's defense. We need a nasty streak in our defense, not the goody shoes that fall over when pressure is mounted on them.

Duffy was getting rinsed on Friday night, injured himself trying to be smart against Defoe. Miskicked a few easy clearances. All defenders make the same mistakes, we just don't have a leader.

{Ed001's Note - and Keane has been woeful for Everton.}

5.) 17 Sep 2017 10:15:35
Leo did you really just put Skrtel in the same bracket as Hyypia, Carra and Lawrenson? Deary me.

6.) 17 Sep 2017 10:20:26
There aren't any decent English centre backs around. I'd avoid them like the plague. They're expensive and poor quality. I genuinely cannot think of one I'd want to spend good money on.

Hang on is this the same Bingo that slaughtered me for saying we aren't converting chances and should have bought a striker?

Hi eds.

I have just been seeing that we are looking at Douglas Costa as an alternative to salah. In my opinion I hope we get Costa instead. Same price for both of them.

Who's better in your opinion Eds?

Leo LFC

{Ed002's Note - They are very different players so comparing them is not easy - and I am not aware of Liverpool showing any interest in Douglas Costa.}

Hi Eds,

First time posting.

I think Clichy would be a good signing, and hopefully get Sessegnon as his backup for a season or two. He is only 16/ 17 after all. I never saw Clichy have a bad game and has played at the top level all his life. He would be the ideal mentor for the young lad Sessegnon.

Clichy has nightmares against us.

2.) 31 May 2017 11:27:33
This is driving me mad! Clichy is no improvement on what we already have so what is the point?!

You say he would be a shrewd signing but I guarantee you'd be on his back if he has a bad game.

We shouldn't be settling for the likes of Clichy.

Not to mention it was that rag, The S*n who have reported it so none of you should be taking notice anyway.

3.) 31 May 2017 11:34:39
More to the point the bloke who works for the echo who usually has his nose up someones rear end at liverpool has said we are not interested in him. So relax fellas there will be more where this comes from over the summer. We will know once they are signed.

4.) 31 May 2017 11:52:17
Thank god, I would have taken clichy when he moved from arsenal but we should be aiming higher now. All this scraping at the bottom of the barrel stuff has to stop.

5.) 31 May 2017 13:39:13
Anyone who thinks Clichy is anywhere near good enough to be our starting LB are deluded. He is just as bad as clyne but on the other side. Doesn't defend well doesn't have great pace or delivery. DO NOT SIGN CLICHY PLEASE!

If he proves to be that good in a pool jersey, as soon as a real Madrid, Barcelona offer him the chance to join them he will be gone. But we have to realise that all our players are just using our beloved club as a stepping stone until we start challenging for champions league final appearances again. Keita, VVD, Salah or Coutinho or any of our squad aren't playing for our club because of their Liverpool love/ desire/ live long dream to play for us. Gerrard and Carragher were the last of that scouse blood. Gerrard had transfer possibilities every year but he couldn't leave because he has scouse blood but football is a different sport now. Its all about €s and £s. Sure look at the academy the majority of the kids aren't scouse.
