Hi Eds,

Thanks again for all your hard work during this mad time.

Before all this I believe the plan was to move the Premier League transfer window back in line with the rest of Europe, so I'm assuming in that way individual leagues hold some power in when they open and close it.

. with such a difference between leagues across Europe at the moment, i. e. we could see Spain, England, Germany finishing at different times whilst France has already finished. Is there any collaborative planning between the leagues and UEFA over the dates of the transfer window?

If it is staying the usual dates of June (July 1st officially) to end of August, how will that be affected by leagues still finishing and European competitions running towards to end of the window?

Cheers.

Klopptimus Prime

{Ed002's Note - Leagues have to meet certain criteria regarding the length (maximum 12 weeks) of the transfer window but can figure the dates out themselves. The Premier League changed the timing of the window because they were arrogant enough to think everyone would follow - they didn't and now it is switching back. The clubs will give their opinion next Thursday when they are due to discuss this and closure of the season if it cannot be completed. The other leagues across Europe have the position that domestic transfers can take pace as soon as the last game is played and can can continue until the individual international windows are shut and are looking at a shorter window. At this point in time the dates on the table in France, Germany, Spain and Italy are August 3 to October 2.}

Amazing, thanks for the detailed response. Do you think the Premier League will table a similar window?

It will be interesting to see when things starting moving in the market, I imagine slowly it will be quiet, but agents are probably itching to get things going.

2.) 29 May 2020 16:55:07
ed002 do you think the top 5 leagues should try to get there leagues to start and finish at the same time then the transfer window would be easier to get in line. we seem to start before most of the other big leagues then finish before them the champions league final was a good point last season nearly 3 weeks between games.

{Ed002's Note - These are unusual circumstances so it is not possible now. The issue with the leagues is the number of games played varies, the winter break and the arrogance of the Premier League.}

3.) 29 May 2020 17:27:01
ed002 4 of the 5 leagues have 20 teams so its only Bundesliga that have 18 and even with the carabao cup we do gain a few games with are Christmas and new year games. Am sure we started 18/ 19 season 2 weeks before most leagues but finished 2 weeks before them. is it hard for us to start later because of the carabao cup 2nd round seems to start before some leagues start. if so do you think its time for that to go like most other countries and have just 1 cup.

{Ed002's Note - Right - so the number of games vary per season as I said. If you compare how many games Leicester played in the season they won the league with how many games Manchester City or Chelsea played it will be around 10 less because of European competition. There are two cups to play for, replays again the likes of Plymouth etc., plus Liverpool are looking to work with a proposal for a pre-season tournament which requires the first team to be played - and it soon mounts up. Remember there is a third European tournament coming as well.}

4.) 30 May 2020 07:50:07
Would liverpool be doing it to try to boost income ed? I can't see the logic in it otherwise with everything going on.

{Ed002's Note - Yes but other sidea are not interested.}

5.) 31 May 2020 23:11:24
There’s a third European tournament coming?

{Ed002's Note - Yes but it may slip.}

6.) 01 Jun 2020 19:24:57
Is to much focus of transfers based around the windows i think they should shorten it as most targets are identified and agreements in place before the window even opens they should impose tighter restrictions on contacting clubs and players outside the window.

{Ed002's Note - Save Klipperty a great deal in his phone bills.}

Hi Eds,

Could be nothing at all, but Klopp said "maybe one or two things could happen" in the transfer market still. Is this purely outgoings? Or is he deciding to pursue a left back? (Or maybe another outfield player? )
Thanks for all your hard work!

Klopptimus Prime

{Ed001's Note - he is still trying to get a left back but it is mostly outgoings now.}

1.) 05 Aug 2016 17:15:02
Thanks for the reply Ed, hoping we can get our act together after Chilwell and choose someone who's right rather than the first left back we can get, even if it means Milner there for the first few games.

2.) 05 Aug 2016 17:20:04
any idea which left back we're after and most likely out goings.

3.) 05 Aug 2016 18:00:44
Must be Hector surely as he's been linked for ages. If it is then he'll probably cost a fortune but if he gets us top 4 then it'll help pay for him, sort of.

4.) 05 Aug 2016 22:53:53
people need to be careful with hector, just because he is a German international full back doesn't mean he will greatly improve our squad. Can plays full back with them for a reason. Yes he is defensively stronger than Moreno but has nowhere near the same pace. I personally hope klopp has found a player nobody would have thought about that will end up to be as successful as his lewandowski and kagawa signings.

5.) 08 Aug 2016 13:50:58
Wignolet - that's a seriously FIFA way of looking at football - Moreno's only use for pace is to get himself out of position faster!

Found a player no-one heard about like Lewandowski? Well. Grujic (in the no-one has heard about sense that Lewandowski was the top scorer in the polish league and had attracted interest from a number of clubs as well)

29 Jun 2016 12:28:41
Hi Eds,

Are we looking to offload Luis Alberto on loan again or a permanent deal? He had a decent season away but can't imagine with only domestic football and signings he'll get a look in. Also do you knows when Matip and Grujic are due to link up with the squad and get their numbers? We're yet to see Matip in a shirt (getting excited), will it be July 1st or does he have holiday?
Thanks.

Klopptimus Prime

{Ed001's Note - Alberto is available for a permanent deal. The two new boys are due in for the start of preseason training.}

Hi Ed,

Thanks for keeping up the site in this unprecedented period, I'm sure everyone on here appreciates your efforts at keeping us as informed as possible.

The the question of the what happens with next season has been done to death, and is still such an unknown until we get a bit of clarity on Friday.

I did see something today though doing the rounds (in the Echo, not always the most trusted), saying that the Premier League could now not make any decision in regards to promotion/ relegation without the agreement of the FA League Committee and the EFL.

I was wondering if this was true?

Cheers.

Klopptimus Prime

{Ed002's Note - The three parties would need to agree if the leagues cannot be completed or if the Bundesliga model were applied - where there would be portion through the leagues but no relegation.}

On next season Ed002, why don’t they just work on the worse case for resumption, I. e. beginning of June to finish mid July (providing they can sort extending player contracts a month and all the other complications)?

That way there is clarity, if it can’t be resumed by that date it’s done, they can effectively plan for those dates based on a restart. And gives players the ability to know, if the virus subsides, when they are likely to resume.

Even if the virus is on the downward peak before then I’m pretty sure it isn’t the biggest deal that there is no football until June. I don’t rather air on the side of caution rather than rush football, or any sport back.

I just don’t see the benefit of trying to get it started ASAP. Work on the worst case for all competitions then have the back up plans, I. e. lose CL and EL, then move domestic competitions to the start of next season. Usually the early weeks are a game a week so mid weeks would be free, although I’ll be honest I doubt that is an option.

Apologies if I am taking an over simplistic view on this, it’s just if it was me i would go with a set date, that teams and organisations can work around rather than hoping it will be ok in a month which looks unlikely,

{Ed002's Note - That would be complicated and world need the help of FIFA. Nobody is looking to rush back. I am not sure who you think is looking to restart ASAP.}

2.) 01 Apr 2020 10:08:46
Sorry didn’t explain myself very well, I mean the likes of the PL going from the original 3rd of April date to the 30th, and now likely to go back again.

If it was me I would now go to the worse case date, whatever that may be, and if that one becomes impossible then go down the routes that you have mentioned previously.
Bundesligas approach or Seria A’s.

On a separate point it looks like we are going to lose a few football clubs due to this.

{Ed002's Note - The Premier League would need to have the approval of FIFA if they were to continue after June 30. Right now everybody remains committed to try and finish their season and all I expect to happen on Friday is that they will slide the "expected/not before" return date back. They are not going to start guessing at the "worse date" situation as nobody knows. The "elite" European sides met on Monday and polled the sides to ask what they would like to do regarding this season. The Italian FF met twice on Monday and have a mix of opinions. UEFA are meeting today but they will focus on other matters. The Premier League will meet Friday and several other related representatives will be available but for know I dooubt show-stopping of binding decisions will be made.

As for losing clubs, I have explained before that I do not see that so many pro sides can be sustained from a financial perspective within the sport which, like it or not, will see more and more money going in to the highest levels of the game. Governments will ensure that grassroots sport get funding but everything in the middle (Southern, Northern, Conference, Division 2, Scottish Divisions 1-3, League of Wales may not get the funding needed to continue on any sort of professional basis. For me, clubs should already recognise this and put their efforts in to getting there finances in order to see if they can make it to a British professional league that will need to flourish without perhaps six sides that have eventually gone down the pan-European route - and have gone for good (it would be two or perhaps three initially) - and those who are simply not financially available and either slip away completely or have to press resetand start again way down the pyramid of leagues. This situtaion we have now will likely topple a few over the edge.}

3.) 01 Apr 2020 11:02:24
It is like everything else in life money talks so long as this pandemic is on the way out and people get the chance however slight of normality then it will boil down to money.

{Ed002's Note - I don't understand your point.}

4.) 01 Apr 2020 12:36:49
I think pushing back the expected return date is the most sensible option at the moment, we just need to ensure everyone is safe and be patient. Ed has said it over and over, they are doing everything they can to try and finish the season.

With Barcelona confirming Digne today, and IMO I can't see Tottenham spending that money when they have Davies and Rose. Are we now the only team that have had any sort of contact with his agent or Cologne?

Klopptimus Prime

1.) 13 Jul 2016 16:16:41
No, Cologne is talking to another team. Why do you think Liverpool will spend that sum on the player?

2.) 13 Jul 2016 16:33:46
Ed002 confirmed both us and Spurs had spoken to Hector's agent and Cologne themselves were speaking to Barcelona (the other team) whether Digne joining Barcelona changes the situation for us in particular I don't know.

{Ed002's Note - Barcelona will drop their interest in Hector - and the asking price will likely drive away others.}

3.) 13 Jul 2016 18:50:33
Klopptimus Prime, I love your name man, epic.
