Batman, are we still looking to sign Valdes or has that ship sailed?

Kaizer

{Ed002's Note - There is nothing new that I am aware of.}

hey ed, did we really offer valdes a trial? seems weird offering a trial, i thought trials are normally offered to young footballers.

Been awhile since my last post.

If Klopp still has it in him, and wants to take up the challenge of rebuilding Liverpool again, then he has my full support. Im sure he has his own reasons for trying to take a step back, so if he feels otherwise then I am okay with that as well.

Disappointed with the result v Madrid, but I hope the team can move on and kick on to the next match. The team can still achieve top 4, and while top 4 hasn't really been the sort of target we were looking at for quite a few years, that is where we are right now.

YNWA.

1.) 22 Feb 2023 15:24:35
Last night's result wasn't that much of a shock. Brighton and Wolves have both beaten us by three recently. We have improved a bit in our last two League games and we won't be playing the likes of Madrid very often this season.
We just need to get to the summer without any more performances like last night. The defence and midfield are shambolic and I can't believe so many experienced players are so out of form. Top four is going to be difficult; not impossible but I can't see us finding the form to go on a run to do it.
I hope I'm wrong though.

2.) 22 Feb 2023 15:49:29
Rigsby, despite disagreeing with you on a number of things. I actually agree with all of your post. The main thing we need to hope is that hammering hasn’t mentally scarred the players. Let’s just focus on the league and somehow build momentum (don’t know how) and somehow sneak top 4 and put this season behind us.

3.) 22 Feb 2023 16:03:27
We might not play the likes of real many more times this season but we still got to play plenty of teams at the quality of Brentford, Brighton and Wolves who all scored for fun against us.

Unfortunately I think we’ve got plenty more downs as well as ups to go this season. To get top 4 we need consistency and so far this season this squad hasn’t been able to show any.

4.) 22 Feb 2023 16:11:33
Spot on, Rigsby. We have seen this movie before and we have seen the same mistakes before so nothing new to anyone who has been paying attention. We did improve in our last 2 games BUT really, the same mistakes we committed in both games, we committed vs RM. The diff.? Everton and Newcastle didn't punish us. RM did.

In fact on the whole, they didn't even have to break a sweat to beat us. All they did was punish our mistakes and the game was done 50 mins in. At no point in the game when we were on top of them did I think we would win cos I knew we were still fragile and that RM are NEVER out of a game. Nobody really believed we would go thru anyway so nothing new under the sun. Time to regroup and get ready for CP cos CL footie is STILL on the table.

5.) 22 Feb 2023 16:14:59
I thought we started the game really good confidence was up and we were going well, and even though it got to 2-2 at half time i still thought we were going ok. although we conceded some goals i didn't think we were battered on the pitch they only had 9 or 10 shots although 5 went in, it wasnt as if it was wave upon wave of attack v defense for them, we tired and the goals were avoidable luck wasnt with us for the deflection. We need to get behind them and try and get confidence back up we have the same players for the rest of the season and they all wear a red shirt. nobody likes to lose but we need to stick together YNWA.

6.) 22 Feb 2023 16:43:09
I believed Klopp had it in him still, but last night really made me question that. So many things left me baffled.

When we got a 2-0 lead why didn’t we try to park the bus for a bit? Did we really think we could maintain that for 90 minutes?

Why were we trying to press Valverde (the guy has 4 lungs) with Henderson and Fabinho?

Why did he stand and watch our midfield capitulate and the game slip away without making a change? And then when he does make a change it’s in attack?

Why take Nunez and Gakpo off when we’ve got ourselves into a position where we are desperate for goals?

Why watch the Joe Gomez horror show unfold to the point where he is nervous every time he receives the ball, and only sub him off when the damage is done and we’ve conceded 5 goals?

Why the token Milner substitution? For what purpose? What is that supposed to achieve?

It’s like Klopp didn’t even study the opposition, didn’t plan anything specific. Just threw a team out there and hoped because inwardly he had already accepted defeat.

7.) 22 Feb 2023 17:15:28
I don't think we disagree on most things, Alonso. But we disagree on how posters express their opinions, at times. If I question someone calling Gomez a ******* idiot, it doesn't mean that I rate him as player.
We are playing very poorly, at the moment, but we can say this and rightly vent about it without being abusive, can't we?
Of course, that is my opinion and others feel differently but speaking out about how something is being said doesn't necessarily mean I disagree with the sentiments of what is being said.

8.) 22 Feb 2023 17:19:40
The rebuild is already under way Kaiser. Dias, Gakpo, Nunez, Konate. With Elliott, Carvalho and Bajcetic introduced to the first team squad. Obviously still a fair amount of work to do mind.

{Ed002's Note - So you don't see Klopp leaving after building a much younger team?}

9.) 22 Feb 2023 17:49:03
The problem is, a section of the 'supporters' will always need someone to blame and kick around to feel better. This in its self just makes things worse as those players get more and more dejected from the abuse they suffer.

I've seen games where we've won 4/ 5/ 6-0 and still the same people sit there talking crap about this player and that player, all because of 1 miss-placed pass that if done properly would have lead to a goal.

As soon as any one player has a bad game, comments like "sell this useless idiot" or "never wear the shirt again" start appearing and it's honestly disgraceful.

The live chat is basically a terminal sickness diagnoses when we're not winning 55-0 with 99.999999999% of possession. It's a joke.

Then there's all this garbage about the owners, "they don't spend money mimimimi" what a load of trash.

Some of you are just a bunch of self entitled little rubbishs who think the world owes you a favour. Grow up.

10.) 22 Feb 2023 19:34:26
Rigsby. Anyone abusing players I don’t stand for, which I said last night. Just don’t like a group of people being lumped together as one as it was pretty good on the live chat on the whole. So we don’t disagree on how posters express their opinions. It’s the same as a group of fans giving out abuse online or in the stands. I don’t and hope you don’t lump all the fans into one when that happens. I said there are good and bad on both the live and main chat. I have always maintained that stance. Also, everyone is entitled to express their opinions within reason of course. Anyways we are one fan base, not aimed at you per-say but this ‘censoring’ supporters who are not happy and provide constructive criticism is where my issues is and the disconnect with some. Also coming onto the live chat when losing and not last week when we won two games is quite telling, again not aimed at you per-say. But let’s park that now and move on as it gets us nowhere as a collective and only leads to this split on forum. Let’s continue to support the team as you ou, I and every has and let’s just hope we make top 4 and the hit the reset button, clear out some players and move on from this season.

11.) 22 Feb 2023 23:23:52
Hsf, when I first started going on to the live chat during games, I thought very much like you. The language can be in the extreme, and some simply don't know what they're talking about. But fine, it's all about "opinions" as they say.

But I like it now, even though I am probably in the minority who try to stay balanced (I freak out only when we score goals) . It's the camraderie and the sense of watching a game as part of a group (virtually) . I've never been to Anfield and who knows if I will ever make it there despite supporting the club a good 40 years already. This is the closest thing, while watching a game on TV.

What I don't like at all is that it has become a refuge for those who feel "marginalized" and "disenfranchised" from posting the same exact things here on the main page. And those things shouldn't be posted for obvious reasons. I just look at it as "venting". But even that goes into the extreme at times, with people going after each other on the chat itself, aside from all the remarks about views here on the main age.

12.) 22 Feb 2023 23:32:33
I've never lumped anyone by the comments of one person, Alonso. Never. I call out the comments not the posters.
There is a herd mentality- especially on the Live Chat when things are not going well- but it's that quick I hardly notice who is posting what.
I thought when City won the League on the last day of last season was bad but last night was worse.
City won the League and Madrid battered us. We should congratulate them and move on.

13.) 23 Feb 2023 11:51:02
Great post hsf. Took the words right outta my mouth. An owner like Mike Ashley or Moshiri could have led us to the position Everton are in. We don't have a divine right to challenge for trophies every season even if we spent 100s of millions. Just look at Arsenal, MU and Chelsea from recent history. Its time to support Klopp, the players and FSG till season ends. Change will happen in the summer.

i believe it was Jorginho who took it down after being so embarrassed by the game.

04 Dec 2018 07:48:08
an appreciation post, alisson's performances has been very good this season, a very huge contributor to our defensive performance this season.

maybe as we haven't even had a decent keeper for so long, that i might be exaggerating, bt i've never seen a better keeper (that especially suits our style of play) in a liverpool shirt. and i guess im not that old as well to have seen other keepers!

Kaizer

1.) 04 Dec 2018 08:44:54
You never saw grobbelar mate 🤣.

2.) 04 Dec 2018 08:54:29
Grobbelaar was just unreal. I have a feeling Alisson will be right up there as well, he's the best keeper for me since Grobbelaar.

3.) 04 Dec 2018 09:26:10
You guys didn't see Clemence .

4.) 04 Dec 2018 10:09:56
You whipper snappers didn’t see Elisha Scott.

5.) 04 Dec 2018 11:06:16
Haha Elisha Scott.
I saw Clemence and Brucie and, I tell you, the more I see of Alisson the more I’m convinced that he’s the real deal. Cracking keeper.

6.) 04 Dec 2018 12:30:14
Clemence was the man but I prefer Alison to Bruce. Bruce was pure class but erratic. Alison is the full deal, the whole package. We got ourselves a bargain.

7.) 04 Dec 2018 13:30:08
Too soon to say of course, but based on what I've seen, and barring injuries and someone dangling 300 Million in front of our noses (in a couple of years from now), I'd say that Alisson will prove to be as good as Clemence. Fingers crossed.

8.) 04 Dec 2018 15:51:34
Tommy Lawrence the flying pig what a legend.

9.) 04 Dec 2018 16:00:50
I started watching The Mighty Reds when Tommy Lawrence was in goal. In my humble opinion, the best goalie we have had in the last 50 years was Pepe Reina. I have endless arguments about it with the guys I go to the match with, but I really do rate him above even Ray Clemence.

10.) 04 Dec 2018 16:18:02
I started watching when Bruce was in goal, was watching Ray in goal but to young to know what was good and not. But Alison is the best I have seen his Positioning is out of this world seems to know where the ball is going before they even shot.

11.) 04 Dec 2018 17:08:41
I should have added that Alisson Becker is shaping up to be even better than Pepe. What a signing!

12.) 04 Dec 2018 18:04:50
Wait, hold on a minute Wirral, you can't seriously rate Reina over Ray Clemence and Grobbelaar? now I'm certain you're just having people on, is that you Walter ;) lol.

13.) 04 Dec 2018 20:48:08
Clemence was brilliant - I haven't seen a GK who instilled confidence in our defence with his calmness under pressure up until Becker (though Reina went close at times) . And sorry but the match fixing smear associated with Grubelaar means I will never talk about him as one of our greats.

14.) 04 Dec 2018 22:06:05
Salah, yes I really rate Reina over Clemence. I used to watch Liverpool home and away, all over England and Europe, in the 1970s and 1980s when there wasn’t much live televised football so Clemence’s performances were not subject to the same intense scrutiny as Reina’s. In my opinion (admittedly, not one shared by any Red who I have spoken to about it) is that once he adjusted to the Premier League, for 6 seasons or so he was a better keeper than Clemence. Grobbelaar just doesn’t come into the equation - far too erratic. No wind up mate.

{Ed025's Note - big shout that WW, having seen a lot of both myself i have to say its not even close mate...clemence is the best by a country mile, of course that is just my opinion..

15.) 04 Dec 2018 22:49:25
Ed025, I know I am in a minority amongst Liverpool fans on this, possibly a minority of 1, but I can only offer an honest opinion. While we are talking about goalkeepers, how do you rate Clemence compared to Big Nev?

{Ed025's Note - now thats a tough one WW, clemence had a presence and was the first to be in sinc with the back 4, they were a great side then and some games he would have very little to do than pull off a world class save, his concentration level was amazing and i cant ever remember him having a stinker or even a pickford moment, big nev was also an excellent keeper mate, more renowned for saving games and superb agility even when the blues were not at their best, its really hard to choose between them but being a blue i will have to side with our bin man.. :)

16.) 05 Dec 2018 06:40:25
Each to their own Wirral mate, you're without a doubt the first person I've ever heard say anything like that lol :) probably the last as well. Reina imo wasn't even half as good as Clemence or Grobbelaar where as Alisson I think is right up there.

31 Jul 2018 07:22:36
just watched the extended highlights of the match against united.

ive never really seen shaqiri play, but boy were you right about shaqiri (read your review the other day) . almost impossible to push off the ball despite not being the biggest.

Kaizer

1.) 31 Jul 2018 12:38:08
Not the biggest in height but width he is huge, Iv not seen many top level footballers with as much muscle as he has and his low centre of gravity means he’s even harder to push off the ball.

2.) 31 Jul 2018 12:53:37
IMO his greatest asset is his close control in small spaces and could suit the 10 role as well as out wide.

3.) 31 Jul 2018 15:39:43
His close control is pretty good but I think his biggest asset is his ability with a dead ball.

29 Aug 2017 09:16:44
hey ed001, if the bid for lemar is true and with the signing of keita, it seems a far better approach than the early stages of the transfer window, with reports coming out of everywhere. with lemar and keita reports were minimal and were mainly the big ones like bbc.

i hope its a sign that changes have slowly taken place since all the tapping up and informing the press issues?

thanks.

Kaizer

1.) 29 Aug 2017 09:35:09
If we sign van Dijk, Lemar and Keita, that represents a superb transfer window, even if we lose Coutinho (who was always going to force a move) . The next job is to convince Can that his future should be here and not abroad, the big fella is captain material.

2.) 29 Aug 2017 11:23:19
Sorry for the ignorance but haven't Barcelona withdrew their bid for pc? Or is that media bs? Is any other club intrested like psg i know they have spent a few quid but won't even attempt to try and understand football money and not sure if this is a factor.

i would put VVD in the list of 4 with your 3 just specifically for the best performers of this season as they have been key when they've played. either through individual or team influence, alisson is absolutely at the top of the list for me, and he has been for many many seasons.

as i've said before, salah scores the goals but alisson gets the 3 points. i can't think of a better goalkeeper, consistent over a period of time, anywhere in the world from the day i started watching football.

its insane how good he is, wild.

while some other players have on and off forms, ali has always been consistent with very few off games a season. also, nice beard.

i think its also a case of understanding the give and take in playing him in this DM role.

it is definitely not his best position which means u are going to get more exposed at times, but as now our midfield trios are typically full of energy, u don't feel so much whenever he actually loses the ball. we haven't had that in a long time.

conversely, in attack all 3 of our midfielders can contribute, just see nunez's goal as an example. its a path chosen, where if u fully understand the risks AND the rewards of it, can somewhat be reflected in our results this season. as we are scoring and winning games, we are also conceding goals.

but they are also a new trio, and with some understanding things could get even better. for clarification, this isn't a negative comment. i am liking our current setup, i also absolutely love nunez, he's really growing on me.
