Any truth that we have representatives in Barcelona to try and sign Traore Eds? He would obviously not be coming to join our U21s and would expect first team football I would imagine. There really would be no place for Markovic if we got this lad and it could hamper Ibe's development as well.
Cheers

Jgs92

{Ed002's Note - I really don't know.}

Morning Eds,

Seen some speculation that handanovic may be on the move in the summer. What's the situation with him and could he be an option for the goalkeeper we seek? He is top class and would be a great signing for us.

Cheers

Jgs92

{Ed002's Note - Handanovic could well end up in the EPL or in Turkey - but he is looking for European football - prefereably the Champions League.}

1.) 09 Feb 2015 14:50:25
Will Lyons Anthony Lopes also be available or on the move Ed? Another good quality keeper who should be on the clubs radar. Cheers, I appreciate these are fairly random names I'm asking about but your insight is always great!

{Ed002's Note - No.}

Seen some stuff on us going in for Higuain in January after we showed interest this summer. Apparently our offer would be around £22 million plus Lucas. Do you think there is anything in this Ed's?

Cheers

Jgs92

{Ed002's Note - I understand that such an offer for Higuain was speculated about in the summer as you suggest JGS92, but since then Liverpool moved for Balotelli and have the apparently effervescing Origi yet to arrive - with no shortage of forwards at the club. To be honest, I would think there is little or no chance of Higuain arriving at Anfield in January.}

Afternoon Ed's, hope all is well, excited for tonight!

Seen a few rumours doing the rounds that we had representatives at Roma vs Torino game last night. They were apparently there to watch Miralem Pjanic & Alessio Ramagnoli. Do you have any information or knowledge of interest in the two? Ino we were linked with Pjanic abit a while ago and he is a very good player.

Thanks alot

Jgs92

{Ed002's Note - PSG and Manchester City remain keen on the signing of Miralem Pjanic. Spurs are aware that he could be available at the right price - but that is very high. Manchester United also made an enquiry in the summer, but it went nowhere. Dortmund seem to have dropped their interest. It would take a very significant bid for him to move this summer and I rather think he will stay.

I am not aware of Liverpool interest in Romagnoli who the club was looking to send out on loan next season. I would think another teenage centre back who is somewhere well down the pecking order would not be top of Liverpool's shopping list.}

27 Feb 2014 21:11:00
A few Roberto Firmino rumours cropping up. Do you see him moving in the summer Ed? I think if he's available he's definitely the kind of player we'd be interested in.
Cheers

Jgs92

{Ed002's Note - Firmino will move in the summer with Shaktar, Zenit and Schalke interested. I am aware there is speculation about Liverpool interest as well but it is unconfirmed.}

Evening and thanks to all the Eds for their continued great work!

Question mainly for Ed001 - have you seen much of Carvalho play previously at Fulham? If so, what are your thoughts on him as a player and how high a ceiling do you see him having? and how could you see him being deployed in our side/ system?

Personally I'm really excited to see him play and develop with us!

Many thanks.

Jgs92

{Ed001's Note - no mate I haven't, I have only seen some highlights of Championship games.}

1.) 22 Jun 2022 15:25:44
I can answer the ceiling bit. If he likes old houses he will have a high ceiling. ?.

2.) 22 Jun 2022 19:00:03
I'm sure that fact was obvious to Fulham, GHIAT19, as they were the cellars.

3.) 22 Jun 2022 19:00:09
I havnt watched him either so I have nothing at all to base this on, but I reckon he’ll be a central player (CM, CAM, False 9) rather than a wide player, although he does have the pace to fit the bill of a Klopp wide player.

4.) 22 Jun 2022 19:23:48
I would imagine this season we would most frequently see him playing on the wings to get him some game time while he learns the system and understands what is required to play at the very top. With a long term view to playing centrally.

5.) 22 Jun 2022 23:43:11
He looks like a Coutinho in the number 10 roll to me.
I think we will see a change of system next season, and he might just benefit from it.
Like one of the Ed’s said before we got Nunez, we’d have to change system if we got him, so you never know, Carvalho might end up being the Midfield Gini replacement but playing infront of the sitting mids.
I’m excited to see him in pre season.

6.) 23 Jun 2022 00:36:08
Well coutinho left a giant hole in our midfield when he played "10" in our midfield.

I really hope Carvalho is not grafted into a midfielder in a Klopp team. he has so much attacking instinct that I'd hate for him to have to spend years putting that aside to grind away in our engine room.

7.) 23 Jun 2022 05:16:38
Faith, i don't think coutinho left a hole at all. Klopp played him left wing and mane moved there after mo came in. Losing coutinho only made us stronger by using the money to buy becker and virgil. I do agree in the hope that carvalho isn't made to play as an 8. But klopp hasn't got much wrong with positioning of players so far. I think we end up moving to 4231 when nunez plays so the 10 could go the 1 of jones, Elliott or fabio. That would also give 1 of fabinho, hendo, thiago a rest each game which would only help out over a long season and maybe mean we don't necessarily need a new mid just yet?

{Ed001's Note - getting rid of Couts improved us massively. He is a good player but he did not suit the way Klopp wanted to play and held us back.}

8.) 23 Jun 2022 08:34:05
Coutinho leaving left a big hole that we filled by winning the Champions League.

9.) 23 Jun 2022 08:55:23
LiverpoolFC8, I have not seen Fabio play either BUT with the clips I have seen, I believe like you that he looks more like a Coutinho. That said, we shall see where he plays. As for Coutinho, Ed01 is right. Cou dd not suit the way Klopp wanted to play even tho, it seemed he was ready to accommodate him.

Klopp said so in an interview during lockdown in 2020 where he said teams would wait for Cou to get the ball and then press him to the fullest. Klopp does not like his team being a one-man team and Cou leaving allowed him to build the team the way we did and not have everything go thru one play, which Cou wanted.

10.) 23 Jun 2022 09:42:20
Ed do you think we will change formation this season and also do you think we have evolved into a more possession based team now that might suit a couthino type?

{Ed001's Note - formation is really not all that relevant, we don't use the same formation all season and often change it during a match as well. We do play a more possession-based game but we are a level or two above anything Coutinho could offer. A player like that is too much me-first and not really good for a top team.}

11.) 23 Jun 2022 12:42:39
I meant left a hole as in when coutinho played in the midfield he’d leave holes lol definitely more effective as LW.

04 Jul 2021 05:52:12
Afternoon Ed001,

Seems like Renato Sanches could be a potential realistic option for us at centre mid and from what Ed002 said, he wouldn't cost a bomb. I saw the player profile you did on him but it looks like it was done when he had that rough loan spell at Swansea. What's your opinion on him as a player now a few years later and would you be satisfied if we signed him?

He seems to be a fairly polarising player so interested to get your take as always.

Cheers mate.

Jgs92

{Ed001's Note - I have not seen much of him, but what I have seen is a player who is fine when given time and space but struggles when the game is played at a high tempo. Which would make him utterly unsuited to the English game. Like I said though, that is on watching only the odd game here and there, so I could easily have caught him on bad days. He just seems like he is a bit slow of thought and needs that extra half-second or more to figure out what to do.}

1.) 04 Jul 2021 06:28:21
I am not sure he gives us something that keita can't. Mind you He could not adjust at swansea and well i understand the swans were sinking at the time but he he was horrible. He has played better for portugal and this season at lille but he will cost us a good 35 40 million.
I am not sure we can afford to be hit and miss with our midfield signing as we are skint
Unpopular opinion but I still think we give keita one more season and an extended run of games if he can keep fit that is. And put the money on a striker as we are looking to sell origi and shaq.

2.) 04 Jul 2021 07:07:45
I'm not particularly given to selling Origi yet, he isn't at the level of the others but few are and not many players with his c. v. will sit on the bench for a season and is a good guy to have around the team, Keita can go asap imo.

3.) 04 Jul 2021 08:45:35
I didn’t think we had any interest in him at all Ed’s? And I agree with you about his playing style he seems to take to many touches and needs time to think about what he is doing next. Doesn’t seem to score or get into position to score. Lots of last ditch challenges. We can’t be looking at him surely?

4.) 04 Jul 2021 08:56:03
I hope not dare.

5.) 04 Jul 2021 09:31:01
If he were to sign and was available every week he'd be better than Keita. No point being allegedly good at football if you can't be on the pitch to prove it.

6.) 04 Jul 2021 09:40:27
I wouldn’t mind Sanches to be fair but I think we can definitely do better with Bissouma and Neuhaus who are much better players.

7.) 04 Jul 2021 14:28:24
Better than Keita certainly isn't enough to try sign a player - we already have plenty midfielders better than Keita. He can go and we don't need to replace him as he barely played. We do need 1 in for Gini alright though numbers wise we are ok but 1 more quality option.

Bissouma for me, we could do with someone who could cover defensive midfield if needed. Looks good and no injury issues.

8.) 04 Jul 2021 16:18:44
I agree with the premise that we shouldn’t buy him, but I disagree completely about his speed. He has a quick turn of pace and can beat a man despite generally being a holding midfielder.

25 Jun 2020 03:44:39
Great to see us back playing well. Do you have time to do a match review Ed001? Always really enjoy reading them!

Cheers.

Jgs92

{Ed001's Note - it is not so much time with that match, it is trying to actually find something to say! We were that much better than them, that dominant that it is difficult to say anything other than we were great and completely overwhelmed a lacklustre Palace side. I will see what I can come up with though.}

1.) 25 Jun 2020 11:05:12
I think you can add interesting suggestions as to what Ali can do to pass the time Ed.

{Ed001's Note - good idea!}

2.) 25 Jun 2020 12:01:19
Hire a PR guy who will follow him and close his mouth for him before he speaks would be a good idea ;)

3.) 25 Jun 2020 14:10:02
I think people just enjoy the stuff you write, Ed. It usually gives a nice new insight into the game, especially with regard to player assessments.

{Ed001's Note - thanks mate, difficult to assess anyone on last night!}

Am I correct in thinking that Kovacic has picked up a knee ligament injury whilst on international duty and is out for around 9 months? Surely this would end any interest we may have had?

Jgs92

03 Oct 2014 08:52:45
You are correct about BR's media handling skills Ed's, and he strikes again with his words on Balotelli yesterday. I haven't seen the interview but have read quotes and it's like he's singling Mario out to blame for the bad start as well as pretty much saying that we signed him as nobody else was available and that Brendan had said it was risky, making it look like he didn't want to sign him. I'm sure that will please Mario! What are your thoughts on this?
Cheers

Jgs92

{Ed001's Note - like I keep saying, he should shut his mouth and stop talking, he is not good with the media. The club need to take him aside and work on this.}

Do you think we have any chance of signing Lacazette Ed? If not, where is he likely to end up?
Cheers

Jgs92

{Ed002's Note - They will not sell both and look likely to let Fekir leave. If Lacazette leaves it will not be to Liverpool.}

Any updates on this Ed002? Have Schalke made an offer? If we were to arrange a pre-contract transfer with him, do you think he would be the only midfielder we would sign?
Cheers

Jgs92

{Ed002's Note - One update. In addition to Schalke and Liverpool, Manchester United expressed interest when approached by his representatives. Any of the three clubs can agree a pre-contract now but the player will want to know the options available and will probably want to know which of the interested clubs qualify for the Champions League. Liverpool has also shown interest in James Milner - whether it goes any where or not remains to be seen.}

I'd love us to sign this lad, think he would be a cracking addition to our midfield options! What clubs are interested out of curiosity Ed?
Cheers

I've been hugely impressed whenever watching Eze this season. You've mentioned he needs to move to take a step up Ed001 - is there any interest in him this summer from anyone? Do you think he would suit the way we play? I'd be happy for us to sign him!

Jgs92

{Ed001's Note - I don't know about any interest in him sorry. He would need to up his workrate a bit more but he could probably play for us I would think.}

Bit off topic, but a question for Ed001 - what do you think of Lookman? He's looked fairly dangerous whenever I have watched Fulham this season. Do you think he has what it takes to play for a bigger club?
Cheers.

Jgs92

{Ed001's Note - I always liked him to be honest, I thought Everton had made a great signing when they got him from Charlton. I am very surprised he never made it there. He is good enough to play for a bigger club, but maybe he is just happier and settled in London, as he went through a difficult spell with RBL before the loan.}

When will the Club World Cup be next year? From reading that I presume that we will be taking part after winning the Champs League last season? I live in China so it'd be great to get a chance to see us play out here!

Cheers.

{Ed001's Note - summer during pre-season I think.}

Haven't logged in or posted on here much over the years, very much a lurker! But I'm currently living in China so it can be hard to catch the games sometimes and these reviews are great so I appreciate the effort ed001! Cheers.
