Any truth in the Mandanda rumours? Hoping not to be honest as what Little I've seen of him I can't see our set piece (particularly corners) defensive woes getting any better.

Jcw_XS

{Ed002's Note - SM is not happy where he is and I am sure would be open to a move. Liverpool's interest has been elsewhere and it is something that would be rather surprising given Klopp decided on his own man over making an approach for him last summer. He will want to be first pick and Klopp has already promised that to someone else.}

1.) 04 Apr 2017 15:34:44
Who has he promised?

{Ed002's Note - Karius.}

2.) 04 Apr 2017 18:08:13
Right mate, of course!

Thanks for the answer! :)

3.) 04 Apr 2017 18:12:38
So do you reckon Karius will be first choice next season? If that is the case, do you reckon Migs will be sold?

Thanks!

{Ed002's Note - The GK situation is difficult. Karius is the number one according to KK, Mignolet is getting on OK but knows he is number 2. KK needs to resolve this but as we know Liverpool are looking around.}

4.) 04 Apr 2017 23:13:06
What's Keegan got to do with it 😄?

{Ed033's Note - It's King Klopp 😋.

5.) 04 Apr 2017 23:52:29
I do rate Klopp and hope Karius is given another chance at some point, but he kinda messed this position up by stating Karius is no.1 and then constantly playing mugs. Not that mugs has done badly, but it can't be good for either players morale.

6.) 05 Apr 2017 06:03:06
I don't see the problem with bringing back Mognolet; Karius needed a little shielding, and in his absence, Mignolet has come in and playing okay. But come summer, like Ed002 has said, he will likely move as Karius will likely start next season as number 1.

7.) 05 Apr 2017 07:59:33
His goalkeepers at Dortmund were abit irratic aswell, klopp just wants bums on the edge of there seats. Let him do his thing as Liverpool are brilliant to watch.

8.) 05 Apr 2017 12:31:56
But Steve Mandanda has been in and out of the Palace team himself yet he'll be wanting a starting spot?

Regardless we will need some kind of experienced next season, either as over for Karius or to compete. Sirigu would be a good shout.

9.) 05 Apr 2017 13:29:37
We need to make an move for Jordan Pickford. He is potentially a future England No.1 and with Sunderlands impending relegation, may come at a reasonable price.

10.) 05 Apr 2017 14:13:40
Pickford is not the solution. We have a young keeper in Karius, all we need is an experienced and for me, Ruffier would do for the short term.

11.) 05 Apr 2017 14:19:28
😂 @ "Mognolet".

I'm going to get a cat called Mognolet and kick it every time Migs throws one in the net 😆.

12.) 05 Apr 2017 15:05:15
Doesn't seem to make many mistakes, is a fantastic shot stopper and has great goalkeeping technique. Plus he's young and homegrown. Ticks all the boxes.

But with the inevitable interest surrounding him, he won't be cheap. And if Karius has been promised the number one spot, would it be worth spending big on another GK?

{Ed001's Note - Pickford looks an excellent future number one, but to suggest he doesn't seem to make many mistakes is false. He has made quite a few errors, which is normal for a young keepers learning the game.}

13.) 04 Apr 2017 20:40:10
Right, but is Migs playing at the moment because Klopp doesn't think that Karius is ready at the moment? And when you say that we're looking around, is that too replace Migs or even looking for a new number 1?

{Ed002's Note - Mignolet has been told that Karius is first choice. Mignolet may wish to leave in the Summer if he doesn't get the support of the manager. Danny Ward is another problem looming for the club.}

14.) 04 Apr 2017 22:10:58
Thanks for the reply ed, i hope we get to see the keeper klopp sees in Karius one day 🤔.

15.) 05 Apr 2017 13:09:13
Hi Ed002. first directing a question to you. go easy. if SM leaves, who are we looking at?

{Ed002's Note - As has been previously explained Liverpool have looked at Pickford and Ruffier.}

16.) 05 Apr 2017 17:10:11
Hey ed02, sorry to butt in, but if one of Pickford or Ruffier is brought in, would that be as a reserve for Karius, and would the player be ok with that? I am confused because while Ruffier seems like a steady, experienced option, Pickford is young and as ed01 said, being a backup would stagnate his development.

{Ed002's Note - I am afraid I don't know and would doubt Klopp does.}

17.) 05 Apr 2017 17:24:33
I agree with Gary Neville when he says it's easy to look like a good keeper or defender when you're under pressure constantly. I don't think that Pickford is someone who will ever be a top level keeper, look at the types of goals he concedes, look at the fact that he is poor on crosses (he's easily dominated by bigger centre halves and strikers and given that we're not exactly the biggest team or that great on crosses or dead ball situations bringing in a keeper who is weaker when dealing with crosses than those already employed by the club makes no sense) I also think his concentration isn't that great. He's a mid table player at best and I'd hope we don't make the mistake of buying someone who won't improve the starting 11.

18.) 05 Apr 2017 22:04:34
A bit harsh. He's young and has a lot of potential so I think it's too early to write him off as a top goalkeeper. Same as it's too soon to label him the next Buffon - not that anyone is.

19.) 06 Apr 2017 11:12:07
So Pickford is out of the question now with the ban? Or did i understand the ban wrong?

20.) 06 Apr 2017 16:40:47
It's just youth recruitment that is banned. So Sessegnon is out of the question now. Regrettably we will probably still waste a ton of cash on Pickford.

21.) 06 Apr 2017 23:06:35
Yann Sommer.

22.) 07 Apr 2017 16:41:35
It's klipperty Klopp not king Klopp. 🙃.

23.) 08 Apr 2017 13:32:49
We need an experienced keeper bringing stability tomour backline. We have done and failed with the young keeper strategy.

Hi Eds . loving the way in which Liverpool appear to be gelling this season, what do you reckon the odds are on the team holding together in the January window? Seeing a few recurring stories with regards to potential "swoops" for a few of the Liverpool "aces"

Jcw_XS

{Ed001's Note - I wouldn't worry about it.}

1.) 03 Oct 2016 12:03:19
Hola everybody! Greetings Eds!
Howbout any incomings?
Do you think we are looking to do any business in the January window or its too early to tell?
Thank you!

{Ed002's Note - It will become clearer but they will not be planning anything major as they did pretty much what they wanted in the summer. A little tweaking may happen.}

2.) 03 Oct 2016 12:45:13
I appreciate your answer!

3.) 03 Oct 2016 16:27:23
You're in for it now ed002.

4.) 03 Oct 2016 22:39:33

09 Aug 2016 14:16:30
Reports from sky are that Palace are in talks again with a view to signing Benteke.

Jcw_XS

1.) 09 Aug 2016 14:48:18
If there was indeed an initial bid of 25 million rejected and they had agreed personal terms with him then I say sell him and invest that money on a LB

2.) 09 Aug 2016 15:44:58
Seems like Palace are short of strikers, so hold out for the 30 million, and buy that Left Back that we need .

3.) 09 Aug 2016 16:46:44
any thing over £25m is good. better than keeping him with no football and paying his wages.

4.) 09 Aug 2016 16:49:23
reports also saying they are considering Wilfred bony . hope they have benteke.

5.) 10 Aug 2016 00:07:46
I'd they are getting 30m for Bolasie we want our 32.5m.

6.) 10 Aug 2016 00:58:37
I've read arsenal r in 4 bony?

21 Apr 2016 08:34:27
Hi Eds . Is there any news on Danny Ings? with respect to how he is recovering . has he done any training yet? i'd really like to see him grow with Klopp, not sure obviously on Klopps thoughts about him.

Jcw_XS

{Ed001's Note - Square Tomato has posted up an update about his recovery and that he is back in training of a kind, though it is unlikely he will play this season.}

1.) 21 Apr 2016 09:01:05
I think Ings will thrive under Klopp just as Origi has.

2.) 21 Apr 2016 13:30:50
Fully agree that he will thrive in Klopps system, I think Origi/ Sturridge with Ings will be a great strike partnership.

3.) 21 Apr 2016 14:55:25
He's running and doing short sprints.

4.) 21 Apr 2016 17:05:10
Ings a Fox in box and then we have a origi who is Lion in box. woohoo.

5.) 21 Apr 2016 19:22:56
Who hasn't thrived under klopp? Ings will come back better than ever!
Only benteke hasn't improved I think.
At the start of the season, I didn't enjoy watching any games, but now I enjoy most! It's good to watch again, and playing good football makes players play better.

6.) 22 Apr 2016 10:26:46
Ings is the type of player that Klopp likes, hardworking, intelligent, willing to learn and with a good amount of skill to boot. I think that Sturridge, Origi, Ings and Firmino isn't too shabby for a forward selection, although I wouldn't complain if we added Lacazette.

05 Dec 2014 15:30:20
Hi Eds does it look like we will be able to offload anyone in Jan ? It's ok saying certain individuals are up for grabs but is anyone taking any interest in anyone ?

Jcw_XS

{Ed002's Note - I think Lucas may leave.}

Hi Ed’s, after watching Brewster these last few games and seeing how he faired in the EFL last season personally I’d be keeping him with a view to him breaking into the first team this season over origi, do you know what LFCs plans are for him? Is he going back out on loan?

Jcw_XS

{Ed001's Note - it is undecided yet but I would think it most likely he joins someone such as Leeds on loan for the season.}

1.) 25 Aug 2020 18:56:47
Cheers eds, I had a feeling you might say that, Leeds would be a very good fit for him as well.

{Ed001's Note - I think so too.}

2.) 25 Aug 2020 19:11:36
I’m at a loss with all these people wanting Origi sold.
If he wants leave, that’s fair enough though I’m not aware he’s asked to.
He was deservedly given a new contract following his performances and goals and he’s done nothing wrong since.
And to replace him with an untried kid is crazy.
I said that I think Brewster will go out on loan, and I still remain unconvinced how he gets into this Liverpool side.

3.) 25 Aug 2020 19:33:11
Leeds would be perfect Ed001 good call.

{Ed001's Note - good to work with Bielsa.}

4.) 25 Aug 2020 19:43:45
Im not just saying it, I swear. When I thought what loan would suit brewster I came up with Brighton (try to play nice football and keep the ball down) or Leeds.

5.) 25 Aug 2020 19:44:23
You know you've just jinxed any chance of him joining Leeds now.

{Ed001's Note - probably but they desperately need a striker as Bamford is awful.}

6.) 25 Aug 2020 19:59:28
Personally for the amount of goals that Origi scored last season and minutes on the pitch I don't see how Brewster couldn't do the job, maybe even better if I'm honest.
If we want to give Brewster a real chance then Origi's place seems the obvious one to take.
We shouldn't get caught up on the sentiment because Origi has scored a few very important goals, he will always be respected for that but it doesn't mean he should stay because of that.
So for me its sell Origi (we could do with the cash), keep Brewster and use the money where necessary in another department.

{Ed001's Note - and then his progress is stagnated by barely playing. Doesn't make sense.}

7.) 25 Aug 2020 20:02:25
Would love Brewster at Leeds, he would seriously improve them and we would get a season of experience for Brewster. But if he can’t get a PL side I would still keep him in and around the team, injuries will be big this year and him as an option could be a bonus.

8.) 25 Aug 2020 20:05:08
Brewster will stay with us.

9.) 25 Aug 2020 20:07:03
Looks like Leeds have agreed a fee for Rodrigo, shame if that stops a move for Brewster.

10.) 25 Aug 2020 20:38:08
Personally i think he should stay. I don't see why he can't compete with Firmino in the same way Jesus competes with Aguero. Jesus has scored about 60 goals in 3 full seasons making well over 100 appearances in the process.

It's a squad game and we have a great young player who should be training with, playing with and playing against the best. I have to disagree with the majority on this thread. He has too much to offer us to be wasted propelling somebody else up the table. You can see he is a natural goalscorer from his loan and the last 2 friendlies alone. Tap ins, instinctive finishes, spectacular long range goals. Kid has the lot and i'm going to side with Ed002 on this. I really hope he gets a chance at Liverpool this season.

11.) 25 Aug 2020 20:39:10
I'd like him to stay, think he would get more minutes than Origi because he's a better player. And because even in this modern age of football where a forwards game is about "more than scoring", the most important think is putting the round leather thing in the back of the net and Brewster is the best out and out finisher at the club. A season of playing every week in the Premier League may be great for him but I remember Tammy Abraham chasing fullback down for 90 mins every week living off scraps while on loan at Swansea a couple of years ago. Its the teams that are expected to be down at the bottom that would be promising him game time and if it is to be anything like Abraham's loan I don't see how that aids his development at all Will only kill his confidence.

12.) 25 Aug 2020 20:54:45
Spot on Jadon Havertz. Exactly why i ate loans. Most of the time it's playing against a lower calibre of opposition or playing with a lower calibre of team mate.

Brewster will learn more at Liverpool than Leeds, Brighton, Swansea or who ever else decides they want him this summer. Most of the teams who will offer him the right environment to develop probably wouldn't be looking at loan deals. Swansea was a great place for him to regain his confidence and get fit. Time to let him shine now. Great post mate.

13.) 25 Aug 2020 21:10:55
Noooo, boooo, keep Rhian and play him!
Bobby is my favourite player but Rhian will score as many goals in half the minutes. We need both!

14.) 25 Aug 2020 22:17:46
Everyone's development is different. Sturridge had multiple loans at "lesser" clubs and then burned it up for us before injuries hit. We should look down our nose at Brighton et al and focus more on the manager, their playing style and playing time.

{Ed002's Note - One. A six month loan to Bolton.}

15.) 26 Aug 2020 00:00:06
I have posted a few times on this topic as well, would prefer a loan for Brewster to continue his development.

Posting again as I just can't believe anyone sees Brewster as competition for Bobby, crazy talk. He's miles off Bobby and even if he scored more in half the minutes I guarantee Liverpool would score less.

I hope Brewster makes it with us but I think he's after just half a season of senior football so his best chance is from a full season loan now and come back ready to stake a claim.

16.) 26 Aug 2020 01:41:58
Origi got 0 goals in over 32 sub appearances last season, and only 4 in 42 games, the argument he scores goals just simply isn’t there anymore. Brewster has to be prioritized over Origi going forward, give him a chance.

{Ed0666's Note - I honestly feel sorry for Divvy. The guy has been nothing but a first class employee and we wanna show him the door. We have short memories. Strikers need momentum and a run of matches something he’s never been given the luxury of. I for one won’t be dismayed if he stays over Brewester who has scored 3 goals in meaningless friendliest that prove nothing.

17.) 26 Aug 2020 02:27:18
"Posting again as I just can't believe anyone sees Brewster as competition for Bobby, crazy talk. "
Sean, hi! I'm from Dublin myself and Bobby has been my fave player for a few years now. But I Heart Brewster!
We have no better alternative to Firmino atm. Rhian deserves his chance and will take it by scoring.
Taki can replace Origi. So, can you please explain why we should let such a natural goalscorer go score 10+ goals for another Premier League club this season? I'd rather he does it in Red.

18.) 26 Aug 2020 03:30:32
Origi spent a season on loan at Wolfsburg and at lille after we signed him and despite more regular playing time he had his worst 2 seasons. If Brewster played as often as a below par origi has been for us he'd have every chance to shine and play well enough to deserve more action than origi gets even though he's not performing he still gets used a lot. Firmino doesn't play 90 mins most games and Brewster could be a gem if he knows that klopp will be calling upon him to aid our attack week in week out through the season. Brewster will be confident he's better than origi and will aim to prove that knowing he can then earn plenty of opportunity to push the others ahead of him. Rashford, Greenwood, Kane, Trent, sancho, AWB, saka all could break through despite not using a loan stint to help.

19.) 26 Aug 2020 13:51:10
Hi Jurgen, Brewster is nowhere near Bobby's level at this stage. I think a full season on loan where he is first choice would be brilliant for his development and he would come back to us a much better player.

I don't see him starting more than 6 league games if he stays with us. Minamino has a lot more experience and should be better placed to cover Bobby.

In terms of scoring 10+ goals, would be brilliant if he got over 10 league goals this season but I don't think he'll get enough minutes to do that for us. What's the issue if Leeds were to get those goals? We aren't competing with Leeds.

I want a better Brewster for us for the next 5-10 years not just this season.

Just wanted to say a massive thanks to all the eds for their efforts over the transfer period, it’s made for some excellent reading . i do have 1 last question, and it may sound daft. but . when a club (that’s floating on the stock market) buys a player, how and why can the fee be described as ‘undisclosed’ I would have thought it would have to be published for transparency? . thanks again Ed’s.

Jcw_XS

{Ed002's Note - We appreciate it.}

1.) 09 Aug 2018 22:31:08
Great shout jcw.

The work they put in and combined knowledge the eds have of all things football makes this site the best place for football info and debate on the net.

Top marks to all the eds and also all the fellow posters who all make this the place it is.

Good site. Thanks Eds. Shame about fekir.

3.) 10 Aug 2018 05:35:00
Hi eds great work, I bet the end of the transfer window for you guys is like end of season for the players. Bet you could do with a nice break then come back for pre season before it kicks off again in late December.

23 Jul 2018 08:49:42
With Matip coming off injured last night and it looking like it's the same injury as last season that kept him out for so long do you expect any movement for someone to cover? Is there anyone available that would suit?

Jcw_XS

1.) 23 Jul 2018 10:56:33
Yes, OP. Lovren, Klavan and Gomez.

2.) 23 Jul 2018 12:33:37
Yep, and Philips and Masterson

How do you mean 'looking like the same injury'? Do all injuries look the same to you? It is not in fact the same injury.

20 Jul 2018 21:54:56
So excited for the forthcoming season now! The WC is over, england supporters divide and become sworn enemies again as they don their club colours! . But . the amount of cash that Klopps spent has to put HUGE pressure on supplying a trophy THIS year . YNWA.

Going to be a long hard season this, the 12th man is missing and it shows. I expected Leeds to go all at it, their style of play is exactly that and they pressed, they will do OK this year and suprise a lot of people, I was hoping to see Brewster on loan there if he isn't going to be given a chance this year with the first team, would suit him and our style of play.

He isn't good enough, he scores the odd screamer free kick, and had a few long rangers at Derby, but he won't get the same types of chances in the prem.
