As it’s silly season I want to throw in my appreciation for all the hard work the editors do on this site, Ed001 the man with the vision and dedication to do it, Ed002 the king (or queen) of all transfer knowledge (you are and will remain the enigma of the site), Ed025 for the banter that keeps us all in check (you’ll win the league one day mate, will be the season after you get relegated though ;) ) and Ed033 who I think does all the technical stuff (please correct me if I’m wrong!).

This site has been part of my life for the last 10 years, daily for the last 6/7 years so I can thank you all enough! And a huge shout out to all the posters who contribute regularly but can I just remind you that the editors are EDITORS, not information providers! This site is a forum for rumours and discussion not for asking constant questions and taking advantage of the Ed’s knowledge.

If they choose to share it then they will and if things change (as they do in football) then don’t give them abuse. You’re no better off than you would be if they hadn’t so what’s the point?! But most of you are lovely! Big love! Here’s to Number 6!

{Ed033's Note - Come in Number 6, your time is up :)

With Moreno likely to leave in the summer what’s everyone’s views on a replacement considering whoever it is is unlikely to get much game time there?

I know Laxalt is the one talked about the most on here in recent times, and I imagine his versatility would be attractive to Klopp and likely get him more game time but, we have 3 up and coming left backs in the academy in Lewis, Gallagher and Juanma.

However, I know little of all 3 and have never seen Laxalt play as a left back or otherwise so interested to know Ed001s and everyone else’s (probably more informed than mine) opinion on the matter.

{Ed001's Note - I have not been able to keep track of the youth teams for a couple of years now, so I don't know how well they have been progressing.}

1.) 28 Jan 2019 12:16:56
Fair enough Ed, do you know much about Laxalt? Is he a left back that can also play further forward or vice versa? I’d be worried he wouldn’t be good enough defensively if it were the latter.

{Ed001's Note - I like him, he would be good cover for both positions.}

2.) 28 Jan 2019 12:17:16
Considering any lb brought in, in your words, "is not going to get much game time" I would give young Gallagher or Lewis a go. Why pay 40 grand a week for a bench warmer when we have decent young players who are just as suited to warm benches.

Also, when Clyne was out with his big injury we all worried a little but look what a rb we got out of that situation. Taa.

3.) 28 Jan 2019 14:39:57
I’m all for promoting the youth if Klopp thinks they are good enough but Laxalt can cover LB and LW so would likely get more game time than if he was purely LB cover. I’m in agreement with most on these pages that we could do with another winger next season as with Lallana and Milner potentially leaving then Keita will be needed in the CM positions more than out wide. However as Mane and Robbo will be playing the majority of the time then the sensible thing to do seems to be either promote lb and lw from academy or bring in someone to cover both positions. However, this would likely result in some of the left sided academy players looking for first team action leaving in the summer which would be a shame as I’d like to see Wilson especially get a chance next season, although sounds like he still needs to up his defensive work rate if he’s going to get a look in next season with us.

4.) 28 Jan 2019 16:07:32
Juanma is out of contract in the summer. Haven't heard anything about a new one being offered, so has he not progressed as well as hoped lately?

5.) 28 Jan 2019 18:46:03
Laxalt is a very good shout, Ed. Saw him play at the WC and he is very good, tenacious and a battler. He is also very versatile, a quality which Klopp always seems to like in his players.

6.) 28 Jan 2019 21:47:43
Juanma looked good when he started. Problem is everytime he starts to impress, he gets an injury and has to start again.

7.) 28 Jan 2019 23:33:00
That’s what I was thinking Robbie but Laxalt would also provide cover for Mane and, from what I’ve heard, has the pace to match Mane (which we currently lack on the bench) which could make him a useful sub particularly when holding a lead (can defend and quick enough to worry opponents into not pushing forward as much) .

I’m all for promoting the youth but I don’t follow their progress as much anymore so don’t know if any of the academy lbs are ready for the step up yet. Laxalt would likely block their route into the first team as well as any of the young wingers (Wilson, Kent, Woodburn etc) if he were to come in. If Laxalt was to be a real option I guess Klopp would have a look at the youngsters in preseason and then make a decision (not that that’s made any easier by the ridiculous shortening of the summer window with increased pressure to get deals done early! )

1st time poster but been a regular on the site for a few years now. Would love to know everyone's opinion on the recent saga concerning sterling, chamberlain etc playing for England u21s? While I wouldn't have an issue with sterling going to the tournament I think it's pretty clear he wouldn't be a part of the squad for the qualifiers. Is it then not a tad unfair to replace players that have been part of that squad to bring in sterling, chamberlain etc. however surely it would benefit the other players to be playing with England first teamers? What's everyone's take on this?

{Ed013's Note - Glad you are getting involved mate}

1.) I heard a really interesting interview with the Belgium manager during the World Cup who put his sole reason behind his team's recent emergence to the fact that they opted to play the U21 talent together at U21, rather than cherry picking the best for the senior team. That way they all mature together and learn to play as a unit. They gain experience and by the time they get to a senior tournament they are a team. The less-talented members are just as much part of that team. For the sake of future success if sacrifice watching the likes of sterling and the ox in the senior team at present.

Why does everyone on here constantly talk about Shaqiri as if he’s a midfielder? How often did he play in midfield last season? 2 or 3? The rest of the time he played on the right wing. We have 3 back ups for the front 3 in Origi Brewster and Shaqiri. If we buy another attacker then it’s likely he will be replacing one of them and that player is going to have to be happy with being a squad player rather than a starter. If the club can find someone that is an upgrade on Origi or Shaq, is affordable and is happy not to be starting much then they will bring them in but you can expect someone to leave. We don’t need 7 players for 3 positions and we won’t be rotating for the sake of rotating. If a player needs a rest he’ll be rested but Salah isn’t going to be dropped just to keep another player happy.

Really or is this just a recycled news story? Wasn’t Zielinski another one we were accused of tapping up a couple of years ago?

{Ed002's Note - A warning was issued to Liverpool about the tapping up of PZ. Allan won’t be moving to Liverpool.}

His language issues? I’ve seen videos of someone (maybe Klopp? ) saying they’ve never seen someone pick a language up so quickly. Is this not the case?

{Ed002's Note - He has been speaking in German and having to learn English from scratch which takes time.}

Would be good to have some versatility though. For example if the opposition were playing a system where he was being pinned back a bit then bring on more defensive rb for a midfielder to allow Trent to push up into midfield and create from there instead.
