So looks like our bid was the highest for Caicedo.

1.) 11 Aug 2023 04:31:32
Who saw this coming?

2.) 11 Aug 2023 05:18:28
To say I'm shocked is an understatement, but what a midfield that will be.

3.) 11 Aug 2023 05:35:34
FOOK, they've accepted our"false bid"what do we do now? ????.

4.) 11 Aug 2023 05:42:00
After what Klopp said about competing with the big boys, that's a roundhouse kick to the face no-one was expecting.

{Ed025's Note - it will be interesting to see where he plays PJ. Does this scupper Trent’s midfield aspirations or have you just paid £110m for a right back?..

5.) 11 Aug 2023 06:20:55
Reading comments this morning makes me smile not only are Liverpool fans some of the best, loyal and funny in the world there’s a large percentage who’ve got more faces than Big Ben ?.

{Ed025's Note - how very true mate..

6.) 11 Aug 2023 06:43:12
Ed025
We will be crying river is we spent £110mil on a RB
Not even Phillip Lahm in his pomp would cost that much

Then again, we are Liverpool, so who knows?

But hey, at least we didn’t spend that sum on players that turned out awful like Andy Caroll. oh wait

Whatever it is, if confirmed, a great signing and TAA better start playing as a proper RB that defends.

{Ed025's Note - its a big call for Klopp sg, Trent has done well in midfield and it looked like that was his calling but this changes things, the money is crazy mate but i suppose it is what it is..

7.) 11 Aug 2023 06:53:51
Ed25, you think this is actually happening? It is very funny, the FSG haters won't know what to do with themselves if this actually happens! I'm a little concern like ed1 as caicedo likes to talk about clubs he dreams of playing for etc.

{Ed025's Note - its amazing Marty, yesterday FSG stood for Friggin Stingy Gits, but today its Fantastically Superb Generosity mate.. :)

8.) 11 Aug 2023 06:59:21
Very good player but Absolutely crazy money. Hopefully this means the means the end of Trent coming inside. Find it crazy that we couldn’t afford Bellingham after this bid!

9.) 11 Aug 2023 07:07:44
I see us continuing to play the hybrid, just with better players. A very very strong 1st 11 now folks.

10.) 11 Aug 2023 07:17:20
Good question Ed25 but I still think a midfield of Caceido, Alexis, Trent will be awesome and only get better in the coming years. All we need is the cover at RB to make it happen assuming Caceido is confirmed…and until then Gomez and Bradley can do a decent job.

{Ed025's Note - but where does that leave Dom SG?. or is he a £65m squad player mate?..

11.) 11 Aug 2023 07:25:34
Read my numerous posts - paying £100m (£111m) was not a surprise. The money was always there for the right player. Bellingham chose Madrid.

12.) 11 Aug 2023 07:29:13
Ecogsi, Trent will have to come inside if not I don’t see a place in the starting 11 for him, he’s shown over the last 18 months that he’s a liability at right back, however with better/ more Mobile players in front of him he might be more like the player he was although I think his heart is set on a place in midfield, if we play a traditional 4 at the back I think Bradley Is the better alternative. I can see us reverting to three centre backs to accommodate trent in midfield with mac-dom and Moises should he sign.
The signing of caicedo although expensive would be phenomenal and definitely complete the midfield rebuild, then onto upgrading the defence.

13.) 11 Aug 2023 07:30:08
Why does this affect anything with Trent? He’s been playing the inverted right back role moving into midfield, him playing this role means we 100% need a defensive midfielder next to him imo and it’s a bonus he’s handy at right back at it should help when he needs to cover Trent in transition. Even if Trent did move into midfield permanently I would still want him playing next to a defensive midfielder like Caicedo with a big engine so I don’t see this signing affecting Trent aside from if the plan was to sign a right back (unlikely given the lack of links and it being so close to the season starting) and move Trent into midfield we probably don’t have any money left to make that signing.

14.) 11 Aug 2023 07:30:17
Ed25 to compete with ManCity £65m for a bench warmer is about right these days ?.

{Ed025's Note - unfortunately you are right mate..

15.) 11 Aug 2023 07:33:55
Ed025 I think we have spent massively over the odds but if had the choice between Caicedo and Rice I would have him all day long. I suppose if you add Mac Allister and Caicedo fees together £145m raising to £165m for both seems a fair deal in this day and age because we got Mac Alliance at a right steal with the prices for players this summer.

{Ed025's Note - i have given up on the price of players and their demands Grino, the world has gone mad mate..

16.) 11 Aug 2023 07:55:06
The interchange with Trent could be masterful. We get two players in one cause of his ability to play RB also.
Perhaps a bit greedy, but i wonder if we will still end up buying a CB.

17.) 11 Aug 2023 08:23:20
John Henry phone call to the Liverpool medical team "Find a dodgy knee - it was a false bid, A FALSE BID! "

18.) 11 Aug 2023 08:24:18
I think this shows that we had the money for Bellingham all along but the player chose Real Madrid regardless, so we had no chance.

LFC knew this back in April so that is why they pulled out of the race. The money was there but we simply could not compete with the allure of Real Madrid. Simple as that really.

19.) 11 Aug 2023 08:38:48
Dom for me is the most exciting of the buys, I am hoping and expecting loads from him. BUT he deserves an understanding that he comes with no EPL experience and so the bedding in may be longer than others. We do have the best manager to help deal with that. He's not the best all round manager but has World Best Qualities that suit what we seem to be overall acquiring 'young quality with more experience than befits their ages' - World Cup Winner, International Captaincy, already and potentially further good EPL experience 18-24'. This mix is what Klopp will love to work with with his man-motivational skills.

20.) 11 Aug 2023 05:41:13
Any news on this Ed? Seems crazy! I know you pretty much said it wasn't happening but looks like it could be?

{Ed002's Note - Chelsea made clear they would not go above £100M for the player and Liverpool did.}

21.) 11 Aug 2023 06:55:06
Is it possible this deal isn't over ed and Chelsea come back in. Not getting my hopes up yet. Or do Brighton say you had your chance.

{Ed002's Note - Chelsea made it clear they would not go above £100M for the player and I very much doubt that they will make an offer which would be significantly higher than their valuation.}

22.) 11 Aug 2023 08:41:14
Ed25

Do you not think they'll continue with Trent inverting and a midfield of Caicedo, Mac and Szob?

{Ed025's Note - im not sure how it will work to be honest Yeomans, i suspect one or two will be disappointed mate but it is a squad game these days..

23.) 11 Aug 2023 09:44:51
Thanks for your response Ed25

Agreed, I guess that's why Hendo wanted to leave.

{Ed025's Note - no problem mate..

24.) 11 Aug 2023 10:06:12
Klopp in his conference just said the club really stretched themselves to afford Caicedo and they didn't realise before summer that they were going to lose Fab and Hendo. By which time Bellinghams' future was decided after being asked why they spent £100m, on Caicedo but not Bellingham.

With the World Cup coming along in November it's going to be a strange season once more. I'm wondering about a couple of things, mainly will it throw into the mix for top 4 that wouldn't usually finish the season there - The ones that start a season off at a good pace but fade away once squads get stretched at around the late October to Xmas. I wonder with the break for the WC that these teams that usually fade get time to recharge and go again? I know there are a load of games to contest before the break but might benefit some.

The other thing is, whether it's good or bad, that run up to the WC for the guaranteed national squad players possibly not giving that 100% in case of injury. I know we usually get it going into a summer WC but by then for some players their clubs aren't competing for much in the weeks prior.

I had thought that a winter world cup might stop the world Cup fever 'they looked brilliant in the world cup' fans transfer madness, but the winter one will just have the same effect going g into January I suppose, although with a bit more reluctance by clubs still in Europe to sell.

Injuries sustained at the world cup could have a massive bearing on both the top and bottom of the league.

Clubs will have to learn to use the 5 subs rule cleverly to protect players.

I just cannot get behind a sportswashing world cup being held in a non footballing country with such a appalling human rights record.
Its wrong on so many levels.

2.) 25 Jun 2022 21:45:48
Im not fussed about injuries to much. Keepers rarely get injured so Allison should be ok. Trent won't get a game as Southgate probably won't take him or if he dose play him, which is odd as he usually plays 4 right backs at a time. Hendo won't get a game. Robbo isn't going. Mo isn't going, Matip is retired from internationals, Gomez won't go. So it will likely be more of our attacking players if that's the case. And we have quite a few. Ithink it will be more of a case of fatigue rather than actual injury . Rotation will be key.

I know Caicedo apparently wants a move to London, but if both Fabinho and Henderson go, and a possibility Thiago might be off, I think it'll be a tough few months initially for a new midfield (if they all play at the same time) to bed in, knowing enough about their runs and positioning, that Caicedo would be my main target as he already knows the prem and knows all about Mac Allister. Would less of an upheaval for me, even though you are signing 3 new midfielders, 2 would come as a pair ?.

I think Konate is still young and could be problems relating to growth, not sure because I don't really know or have the time to look into his injury history. Just wondering is he the type of defender who having come from a 3 centre-back formation is more comfortable playing that style but feels more exposed while playing in a 2, and let's face it, it usually is a 2 man defence that we employ with our attacking fullbacks.
I don't think the Ed was saying we are looking to replace him, but I think he's taking a lot longer to settle due to injuries, some dodgy decisions and the team's up and down performances in the last 18 months.

Just wondering about signing an extra centre back, which we definitely need, even after the emergence of Quansah, who has been great fair play to him.
Obviously it all depends on who the new manager is, but if it is Amorim, who at the moment plays a 3 at the back (not sure if that is his style or due to players available) but would that mean a less injured Konate? Not sure if playing a back four and covering right back is too much for his hamstrings and size to keep up match after match. Not sure if it's growing pains, but going back to the three he used to play before would suit his fitness.
Again, if we went to 3 at the back, are we signing someone for the lcb position with virgil playing centre of the 3, or does virgil play the left side, which I don't think uses him to the best of his abilities.

I always remember the 3 0 lead we had v Palace and although we had a poorer goal difference than City and probably wouldn't have caught them in that respect, all we needed was for us to win and them to put the pressure on. We went for more goals, Palace scored 3 to draw and City went on to beat Villa I think in the next game, but they took over an hour to score their goal in that game I'm sure. If we would have beaten Palace, who knows how much more pressure that would have put on City.
But it doesn't play on my mind. honestly ?.

I'd go all out for Bellingham personally and a free transfer signing like Rabiot if we need another midfielder.
