At times some posters on this site really baffle me. It bemuses me that people are willing to give Borini a chance because he runs around a lot but turn their noses up at players like Benteke. He will get goals for us, he is an improvement on what we have. I would/will welcome him with open arms, we need a striker, GK (backup?), and a DM badly. Lucas may leave :-( so we need someone in their as we can't trust BR to play Emre there now can we!

1.) 29 May 2015 13:18:29
For the 30 million being touted we could get a more talented, and hard working player who would get the same goals, and not rely on being a brute. He's been injured a lot and had only scored in the last 10 games.

2.) 29 May 2015 13:26:56
Benteke is just another balotelli waiting to happen, these types of players will never flourish under br because he doesn't adapt the team to there strengths. Bony would have been exactly the same if we signed him.

3.) 29 May 2015 13:39:22
I'm with Fencey on this. Also buying a DM just because he won't play Lucas or Can there - how bad is that? Not having a go at what you're saying, I just mean it's senseless the way we do things, keep signing players for positions where we already have players.

Signing a backup GK is a waste of time I think as well. Either better than Mignolet or just don't bother. We have signed double figures of backup keepers in our recent past and what's the point, hardly any of them have ever provided serious competition. Let's go get a proper keeper.

Same for striker. A really good striker who suits our style. For similar money as Benteke would cost we surely could find a better fit.

4.) 29 May 2015 13:40:54
If we are willing to spend around 30 million then we should go for someone like lacazette, benzema, higuain. It is shambolic going for benteke because he is a target man who doesn't suit our system(if rodgers is staying) or buying someone without the consent of new manager that to in the range of 30 million is very risky.

5.) 29 May 2015 14:00:39
Agreed - I like Benteke so won't be massively disappointed, but 30mln for someone that feeds off accurate crosses (when we're the worst in the league at this) and is more a hold-em up style forward isn't what we really need.

We need someone who's going to make runs in behind to feed off Coutinho and Hendo's vision and feed off our passing game with lots of movement, and for 30mln we should be able to get someone like Benzema, Vietto, Lacazette or Martinez who are more prolific and suit us better. I even reckon Walcott would suit us better and play decent backup to Sturridge provided we can also get Ings.

6.) 29 May 2015 14:23:10
If we have 30m to burn on a striker which we don`t IMO, Benteke is not that striker because he doesn`t warrant that type of outlay. We can get Son for cheaper than that and actually more versatile because he can play anywhere on the frontline and is lethal with either foot or even Vietto who may not come but that amount could sway things. 30m for Benteke is a massive waste just like Carroll.

7.) 29 May 2015 14:47:46
All this talk about Benteke can't play the Rodgers system and we need x, y and Z. Come Wednesday we might not have Rodgers and suddenly the new man comes in and wants to change the system to suit his style and maybe those of some of our existing players listed currently as no hopers.
Although highly unlikely maybe some of the players being linked are requests of interest by a potential new manager.
More likely 99% is just lazy journalism or someone jumping on the bandwagon

8.) 29 May 2015 17:14:05
Cheers for responses, something is just telling me that BR won't be with us much longer. I agree with people preferring players like Benzema/vietto/lacazette (spelling?) but are they truly achievable signings? Massive summer approaching

{Ed002's Note - Try searching on them.}

9.) 29 May 2015 17:24:17
benzema would be my first choice. Brilliant player, might not get you more than 15-18 a season but is so intelligent with and without the ball in terms of retention, bringing others Into play and making space for others that he would bring far more goals to the team. However, will never happen guys. Keep dreaming

Morning reds, don't know how feasible it is but I wouldn't mind us getting rid of both Lambert and Borini. Borini just isn't good enough and Lambert just doesn't look up for it. I think we can get the best out of Balotelli if we go with two up top. I like to see us get some funds from the sales of our 'strikers'. GK remains our top priority!

Coolie

1.) I would get rid of all 3. Like u said, Borini and Lambert are mid table team strikers at best while Balotelli is least bothered about football so just let all 3 of them go. If we can recoup around 20 million GBP for them, use it to buy Lacazette. Sturridge, Sterling, Origi and Lacazette would be a great strike force for next season.

2.) 08 Jan 2015 12:14:39
Maybe we should just encourage the team to play in a way that's vaguely suitable for their skills and abilities? Like not expecting Lambert to be accelerating off the last defenders shoulder for example, and giving him options to knock balls onto

3.) 08 Jan 2015 12:37:37
Very unfair to say Lambert doesn't look up for it,
Doubt his technical ability sure, but not his application.

4.) Hello welshboy, sorry matey, just don't think Lambert is what we need. A team with top 4 aspirations requires a striker of a higher calibre. that's my opinion. Not personal, I actually like him, but I love the team more and he isn't 'that guy'

5.) Hijkle what does it matter what we encourage bro? We can sll see the flaws in the team, yet nothing is changing.

6.) 08 Jan 2015 14:50:28
I didn't mean 'we' as fans. I mean't 'we' as a club. Specifically, the people in charge of coaching the team and giving us a gameplan/strategy

7.) 08 Jan 2015 16:48:43
The only decent strikers we would attract at the moment are car workers, dockers or miners.

8.) Lambert and Borini are 3rd and 4th choice strikers.
You tell me what "high calibre" player is going to sit on our bench every week?

9.) 08 Jan 2015 18:21:11
Coolie, you need the read my post. You've disagreed yet cited the same as me,
Technically good enough? No, but can we question his commitment? No.

10.) Hello welshboy, i don't think we do agree bro. I like Lambert, but actually we haven't seen him perform anywhere near the levels he produced at southampton. Now is that due to BR? Lambert? The system? I don't know, but whatever it is it just isn't working. I mean Borini gives it his all but is that enough? No, not imo.

02 Jan 2015 14:07:43
Respect to SG, YNWA. Every club has a big player or several but who do we have once SG leaves? When signing players, having someone like Gerrard can swing a deal. Imo anyway. I think a team needs a good blend of youth and experience.

Not playing great but playing better than we were! It can be soooo frustrating to watch us at times. Borini looks like he is coming on.

Cheers Ed001 for the informative insight. What about other team-mates of his? Did anyone ever speak out against him?

{Ed001's Note - those that did were quickly moved out of the club.}

Well said KingKenny. The captains armband is much more than being well liked. You need certain attributes as well as being likeable.

When Sakho first came I doubted him and people slated me. Ed's included, then he got much better and I swallowed some humble pie. However, now he looks really shaky. At times he looks great and then at times he looks a liability, overall I'd say he is very inconsistent, but then again, the form of the team is the same.
