I think Liverpool should just try for one new addition, a quality striker to finish all the chances we create each match. Dusan Vlahovic Has been mentioned previously and has many suitors. But a proper offer would be my preference and move Firmino as midfield cover. He is young and shows huge potential but if he turns into a 30 goal a season player, a huge asset in the future. We just need to perhaps speculate to accumulate as will need a new striker eventually.

Firmino is not a midfielder.

2.) 02 Aug 2021 23:27:24
Firmino was a midfielder before he joined Liverpool 🤦🏼‍♂️.

3.) 02 Aug 2021 23:28:43
His best position now could well be AM. I think he could well play deeper this year in quite a few games.

4.) 02 Aug 2021 23:30:28
Actually, Firmino started his career as a defensive midfielder.

5.) 03 Aug 2021 05:21:15
FSG would ideally like the OX (who scored some 25 goals in like 220 games ) to play the striker role 😂😂😂.

6.) 03 Aug 2021 06:08:19
FSG picks the team? Incredible.

7.) 03 Aug 2021 06:21:14
So Bobby and Trent in midfield this season. We just need one more now to take up the third midfield position. Maybe Allison or even Salah to play the Dm role. We can sell the 8 central midfielders we have then 🤣.

8.) 03 Aug 2021 06:37:09
Who cares where he started up. Carragher started his as a striker. Firmino needs to up his game generally as opposed to this AM nonsense. 🤦.

9.) 03 Aug 2021 06:39:46
Thunderbird - This wouldn’t even be in the conversation if more money was made available to bring in proper attacking reinforcements. That’s where the criticism of FSG comes from. Not one person on this site has ever indicated, even remotely, that FSG has anything to do with team selection.

10.) 03 Aug 2021 06:52:15
Alli is s striker in my team, great heading ability.

11.) 03 Aug 2021 07:47:19
The thing is Bobby should have been shipped or replaced by now. he is what 30 and we don't have a natural or any kind of replacement for him yet. Klopp has no other options than experimenting with what he has today.

12.) 03 Aug 2021 08:13:15
How many senior games did carra play as a striker IPC? That is a false comparison. Firmino has played his entire bundesliga career at AM (4 years and circa 140 apps) .

Klopp turned him into the striker role. It’s hardly outrageous to suggest playing him there could be an option.

13.) 03 Aug 2021 08:39:52
Bobby dropping into the middle is a dumb idea, rather a desperate attempt to cover the cracks. We will have to change the entire setup and system to play with an AM. Bobby doesn't have the legs to play in the middle and he would be a proper passenger in that role.
if he drops in then you may as well ask your full-backs to check their runs coz we don't have enough bodies to babysit them.
will not happen in million years.

14.) 03 Aug 2021 08:53:31
I find is crazy Sinwave you think a player should be shipped because he is 30. 30! he has a good few years in him his game has never been about pace and that's what you lose as you get older, yes we need someone to come in a compete with him but he doesn't need to be pushed out Bobby suffered last year with no fans I think he feeds off that energy I am confident this year with a proper rest our front 3 will remind the world just how good they are

Bobby will play here for another 3 years then head home to brazil to retire.

15.) 03 Aug 2021 08:56:15
Comical. Folks so desperate for a new signing they're writing players off as finished.
Cue the outrage when Klopp does the opposite to what they want.

16.) 03 Aug 2021 10:41:00
Sinwave, if you think a player should be dumped cos he is 30 then, that should apply to VVD, Hendo, Thiago, Milner and in a year it would be Salah and Mane. At this rate, we will have next to NO top players yet and you're really going to lose your ship afterwards. This tells me that you literally have no idea what you are talking about cos your basis is deeply flawed.

Yousay Bobbie dropping into the AM position is a dumb idea to paper over the cracks and the fullbacks need to babysit him. You do know that Klopp has done that multiple times over the past 3 seasons and mostly, it worked with our FB's high up the pitch not having to babysit him and was NEVER a passenger cos he gets on the ball a lot more in that role, right? So what cracks were they papering over then when we won majority of our games with him in the 10? Did he have the legs for it then and suddenly doesn't have them for it now? You say it won't happen in a million years whereas it has happened already multiple times all the way back to even last season. Again, incoherent thinking.

Listen, you may want Bobbie gone and there are actually good reasons you can give to support such a point. However with the way you talk, it seems you just want him gone for literal NO reason other than your emotions and the need to get a new CF in. Sorry, that ain't going to happen cos Bobbie is going nowhere this summer regardless of how emotional your comments are.

17.) 03 Aug 2021 10:50:16
Kloppers

sometimes you have to let players go when they have value especially for a club like ours lol that is struggling to meet two ends. I am not sure how many would be interested in signing a nongoal scoring defensive-minded striker but again he might bring in some revenue.
you don't need to go further than spurs who are about to sell their star player (nearly 29) for a sum that would revamp their whole team in one go.
there are only three players I wouldn't want to sell. Salah, VVD and Allison.

18.) 03 Aug 2021 11:27:52
I have no problem if Klopp would like to hand over a group of 35 plus age group players to his successor in three years' time. It's no secret we are relying heavily on salah to score goals.

19.) 03 Aug 2021 12:03:01
Milner will be nearer 40 to be fair yet nobody wants him to leave - makes you think that perhaps age might just be a number.

If, say, we were offered Messi and Ronaldo for a couple of years on fee transfers do you think they might be worth a shot?

{Ed0666's Note - what?

1.) 10 Jul 2021 00:23:08
Liverpool to win the Premiership. Anything else is irrelevant.

{Ed0666's Note - CL isn’t irrelevant mate

2.) 10 Jul 2021 02:45:24
Wow.
I get it. That's quite a decision.
It puts it in perspective for those opposing the 'Scouse not English' sentiment.
"Real" LFC supporters will choose Liverpool winning the league every time. You will get a lot of that in this thread.
But honestly- England winning the Euros this weekend would be a once-in-a-lifetime thing that I really really really really want to see. Just think of the children!
As much as I don't want to see City with the CL, cos that's just funny the longer it goes on (although it will happen one day) .
So. Conclusion = undecided.

{Ed001's Note - there is no decision, none of those things are mutually exclusive, they can all happen at once, so why would anyone have to choose? What England do is utterly irrelevant to what Liverpool do.}

3.) 10 Jul 2021 03:41:30
It’s only a bit of fun Ed. I hope the best team wins for all comps, no bad luck, no controversy, no lasers, just Hendo smashing in the winner in the 90th minute to win 3-2 on Sunday (Monday morning for me) .

{Ed0666's Note - Honestly mate I’d love to see Hendo scoring the winner and I’d also more than anything like to see England win it for the much maligned waistcoat. I’m not his biggest fan but I’m a fan of good human beings and he seems to be one of those as opposed to Mancini who is a massive diva

4.) 10 Jul 2021 05:07:11
The OP didn’t suggest the CL in his options, Ed666. If we are talking about any options I’d prefer Liverpool to win a preseason friendly than the OPs first suggestion 😀.

{Ed0666's Note - I’m lost mate. But then again I’m not the brightest bulb in the living room.

5.) 10 Jul 2021 07:10:31
England win the Euros or Liverpool win their opening league fixture of the season? No brainer.

{Ed025's Note - it is burkey....come on england.. :)

6.) 10 Jul 2021 07:21:23
I will take Liverpool to win a corner 😉.

Great result. Three tough games to come because the games won’t be as open as the opposition will sit in. Dream scenario will be 3 wins by decent margins, Leicester take points of Chelsea, Chelsea finish 5th, must win CL to qualify next year, they do on penalties. Win win for everyone including city who won the premier league, but not European cup ;)

Your missing that if Arsenal win the Europa then we won’t be in the CL. We want Chelsea to Bt Leicester.

2.) 14 May 2021 07:09:24
Will be difficult for Arsenal to win the Europa, seeing as they're not in the final.

3.) 14 May 2021 07:16:41
You are missing the fact that Arsenal got beaten in the semis of the Europa League by Villarreal.

4.) 14 May 2021 07:38:42
Arsenal winning Europa League would trump the miracle of Isanbul lol.

5.) 14 May 2021 07:44:41
😂😂😂😂.

6.) 14 May 2021 07:48:04
If we win all 3 then we should finish in the top 4.

Our maximum points is 69. Chelsea’s max points is 70 and Leicester’s is 72.

The beauty is we can get max points but Chelsea and Leicester or both can’t as they play each other.

If Leicester lose the max points they get is 69 and if Chelsea lose then the max they get is 67. If they draw then it’s Leicester 70 and Chelsea 68.

The tricky one will be if both us and Leicester finish on 69 points. At the moment they have a better goal difference than us of 1 goal. But for them to finish on 69 they will have to lose a game and we would need to win all 3 so our goal difference would definitely improve over them 3 and Leicester’s would decrease in the game they lose. It would all go down to how many they score in the game they win but they would still need to win by a bigger goal difference in that 1 game than what we do in our 3 combined. Which would be highly unlikely but not impossible with what we’ve seen this season.

So basically although we are in 5th place the CL spot is actually in our hands. If we don’t win the 3 games then we only have ourselves to blame. And if we can’t blame ourselves I’m sure we can blame Naby, Wiji or new villain Mane 😜.

7.) 14 May 2021 06:43:30
Are they letting arsenal back into the tournament mark? 😂.

8.) 14 May 2021 06:47:58
I'd be really surprised if Arsenal won the Europa league!

9.) 14 May 2021 06:51:29
Arsenal are not in Europe.

10.) 14 May 2021 06:55:15
Youre missing that arsenal got knocked out in the semi final of the europa league.

11.) 14 May 2021 06:55:24
The Europa League final is Man Utd vs. Villareal.

Arsenal are out of the Europa League.

12.) 14 May 2021 06:55:44
Arsenal will struggle to win the europa league mark when they’ve already been eliminated.

You’re always so quick to p@ss on positivity 😂.

13.) 14 May 2021 06:58:04
What? The finals United vs Villarreal.

Great summary A. W. If ever a reason to use an asterisk It must be this season.

Empty stadiums, games played in neutral venues and jaded players all illustrate that this is not a normal season and should always be recognised as such.

Well done to City, they took full advantage and should be commended. It’s not their fault that their rivals floundered so lamely. 80 pts to win league LOL.

City do what we have failed to do, and win multiple trophies in a season, Pep and his team have been amazing, they have taken English football to a new level, hope we can get close next year.

2.) 12 May 2021 08:14:38
If any team was going to thrive in empty stadiums, it would be City. Pep said so pretty much after they won at Anfield this season. He said Anfield is differently with no fans. Says it all, really.

A lot of reactionary posts here about yesterday’s result. I still have belief but a huge ask based on our current predicament.
I always felt we would struggle. We have a recent poor record against Spanish teams. Lost to Seville, Real and Athletico in recent years. Sadly we were probably the second weakest team left in the draw and for us to progress we needed to play at the optimal level but I think Real are on a good run of form, playing at their training ground is a clever physiological ploy to put off the opposition and having the first leg, first, can also be an advantage in an empty stadium with the away leg extra time counting away goals. This season has shown up a lot short comings. Squad depth which I think we all have been complaining about is the sole issue in my eyes. The front 3 plus Jota now has a little depth. In a normal season rotation and competition for starting place would benefit the team however I feel we are trying to play out of form players back into form (Mane, Keita) we need more depth but we have not got depth in the owner’s pockets hence we are getting by with a small core of elite players who look knackered. Hopefully the club sees sense this summer, with or without CL football and stock the team up with some talent. There must be some C.V. bargains out there, let the other clubs buy over priced media hyped “stars”, Although I will be a little hypocritical and accept Mbappe who is a genuine star. Cheers for reading my whinge.

I think in hindsight the Liverpool players perhaps did not fully realise how much of a prized scalp they’ve become in Europe after recent success and with individual players being lauded and given awards.
By contrast, the Madrid players have endured a lot of criticism this past 2 years.
Whilst they’re certainly not the team of, say, 3 or 4 years ago, these things are still relative.
On that showing, Madrid would easily finish in the PL top four.
Maybe they’ve been inconsistent by their own very high standards, but the presence of Liverpool as a CL opponent definitely had a galvanising effect on them and they looked a class outfit that was motivated to show their potential.
There’s definitely a change of mindset needed by Liverpool for the second leg, they were caught in the headlights in Madrid but they’ve got to show a lot more industry and application to compete and get about the RM team.

2.) 08 Apr 2021 10:53:46
Spot on, Juicer. We seemed in awe of them for some reason or maybe the after effects of Kiev still lingered on in their minds BUT I can't see that. In the end, I don't know BUT it was bizarre the way we started the game and did not match their hunger and intensity. We stood off them way too much and for way too long and they punished us, for sure.

However, this is typical of RM over the past 20 years. They can have a crap season in La Liga BUT when the CL comes along esp in the latter stages, they are able to focus and their warrior mentality come thru. A change of mentality is definitely needed, as you say cos what we showed on Tues. is NOT going to cut it.

3.) 08 Apr 2021 12:29:46
It wasn't that Madrid was bad mate. we showed no interest in that game in first half. absolutely shocking. and also refreeing was on EPL level.

4.) 08 Apr 2021 13:20:52
I agree we looked like rabbits caught in the headlights. We have played enough big games now for it not to be an issue. It’s the same when we go to OT recently we don’t play our own game. Am also not sure Madrid would finish top 4 in the pl. we were just awful for 90 minutes so made them seem better than they are. Barcelona have one of their worst ever sides and are 3 points ahead of Madrid. Might be our silver lining that it’s the Classico at the weekend.

5.) 08 Apr 2021 14:39:58
Madrid did to Liverpool what Liverpool used to do to teams. They pressed and pressured them all over the pitch and, i will be honest, I wasn't expecting it. I was surprised how Real came out and played and they just knocked Liverpool out of their stride. I was expecting a more measured approach, keeping it tight, maybe Klopp was too? There is no doubt our intensity has gone compared to previous seasons. If we want to qualify, we need to get it back or we are doomed.

6.) 08 Apr 2021 16:34:06
Mark, you make a very good point with your analogy to the way we play at OT. IMO at OT, we seem to always play the occasion (due to the media overhype before the game) instead of just playing the game itself. That may have happened here as well cos this is a glamor tie in Europe regardless of the teams' current form. Seems to be a theme with us of late.

The worse thing is that when you watch the way the other away teams played in the CL this week with the intensity they brought to the pitch vs their hosts, it makes our performance look way worse. Still pissed about it cos I KNOW we can do better and should have done better. That is what pisses me off the most.

7.) 09 Apr 2021 03:36:28
We talk a lot about players and teams and their psychological state before and during games. Aside from all the various possible reasons that have been cited on these pages, nobody has alluded to the fact that Klopp himself maybe be tired and, even, just exhausted from what has happened in the last 12-18 months; if you accept that a team's performance is a reflection of the manager and the people pulling the strings. I'm not calling for any type of action, of course, he's still the best possible manager for us at the moment. But we saw him taking a year off after leaving Dortmund, and i recently heard him talk about taking a year off after his current contract. If the mind is already thinking that many years ahead, it tells you there is fatigue that has set in and he needs just as much a rest as many of the players.

{Ed0666's Note - I come back after a few days and people are posting sensibly. Wtf is going on?..excellent point ArAy....why can’t Klopp be a bit jaded after all he’s had to deal with not just proffesional but also with the sad loss of his mother. Let’s hope he has a nice break in the summer and if he is fatigued he comes back all guns a blazing.

8.) 09 Apr 2021 05:30:59

To challenge year in year out, you need to compete with the bank rolled super rich ownership structures. Unfortunately buying success is the current method ruining football and FSG aren't in the same bracket. One needs to spend $300m in today's market just to keep pace. If we could get lucky with a few players all hitting career best form at the same time, few injuries and a bit of good fortune we could challenge for a season or two, until the squad is cherry picked by Barce or RM. Sad but true. I think trying to outspend is pointless, just keep bringing new blood focussing on quality not quantity as there are enough decent players out there but we need to find them first, then it's just 11 v 11 on match day.
PS. Still think Liverpool need a gun striker first and foremost. Goals cure everything!

If PC leaves and we get a windfall which I don't want to happen, would we consider trying for Aubameyang or even Bale? Pulisic or Dembele have potential but unproven. PL rivals will not sell their top players to us, so we will be limited to European options. A left field thought, what about Sanchez? He did'nt want to come the first time but we will be cashed up and in the CL, would Arsenal except 40m and 1.00.

These billionaire owners have had the greatest Stockmarket increase ever. Their wealth has increased exponentially. Money is cheap, interest rates are incredibly low. I think this is allowing some of the clubs to spend despite C.V.. Meanwhile, though highly commendable, FSG sustainability model, is holding back LFC. I think FSG have lost interest as winning the PL allows them to sit back and watch the asset value increase like their shares.

I Sympathise with the first 11 who have to negotiate 38 PL, up to 13 CL games, plus cups, plus international duty in a World Cup year and African nations cup, without getting injured, fatigued, suspended or lose form, whilst their rivals can manage the workload with a deeper squad.
Let’s all remember we’ve only won 1 PL title in 31 years, with a bit of squad depth, whilst Klopp is still around it could be more. We’re asking for miracles to expect the same team to deliver 99 and 98 points again whilst being older against strengthened opposition.

He is also a tactical addition so Pogba resigns and doesn’t leave for free. The owners also think he might do a Tom Brady and win them the PL or CL. This will also hasten Ole s exit quicker which is the biggest negative of CR7 arrival at Utd.

Expectations by the fans and players will be that we compete and win the PL or CL. If we fail and only come 4th or 5th and struggle in CL, will the fans and players regret that the club didn’t invest more in the squad. Expecting the first 11 which are equal or better than our rivals to play all 38 PL, all 13 CL plus cups, plus fly all over the world to play for their national side and be as competitive in game one as game 55?
Investment in additional players is just risk mitigation against injuries, C.V., loss of form, competition for places and complacency. Why are we not doing something in the market or are we just like Newcastle, where the fans are just taken for granted by the owners.
