James Pearce reporting Davies deal done - Van den Berg going the other way on loan.

1.) 01 Feb 2021 05:46:33
This Ben Davies deal could end up being a very smart bit of business I think. ALso indicates we have a big money move for a CB lined up for the summer as Davies will probably be a backup only. VVD, Gomez, Davies and a top quality first choice CB signing (Konate/ Diego Carlos) is good enough for me.

{Ed001's Note - or that Klopp still trusts in Matip?}

2.) 01 Feb 2021 06:00:48
What's the point of keeping Matip though? He is brilliant when fit, but his injury problems are as bad as Keita's. There is no stability at the back when we keep chopping and changing our CBs time and again. It just makes sense to get someone with a better fitness record and build from there.

{Ed001's Note - I wasn't saying that, I was just saying that you were claiming it indicated something but that it was much more likely that it did not indicate any such thing.}

3.) 01 Feb 2021 06:21:57
Aah ok. Poor choice of words from my end. My OP was more to do with what I would like to see happen in the summer.
The only way we should be keeping Matip is if he accepts a pay as you play deal. If not, might be very difficult to find a buyer anyways.

{Ed001's Note - if we can replace him, then I would defo offload him. It wouldn't matter if he was better than Beckenbauer and Maldini combined, his fitness issues make him a liability. The only reason to keep him is if they can be solved, which seems unlikely as they have been getting worse.}

4.) 01 Feb 2021 10:26:15
Does klopp think we can pump cement into matip and all of a sudden he is solid? Bullcrap he can't be trusted .

5.) 01 Feb 2021 12:02:22
Sadly Matip is made of glass, curly wurleys and lollipop sticks. Good player if they can swap the glass for titanium from Van Dyke DNA.

6.) 01 Feb 2021 13:49:18
Curly Wurly's are very flexible and can be tough enough to brake, can we go with Crunchies as he unfortunately seems to crumble easily 🤣.

06 Apr 2020 16:05:19
So. The Atlantic reporting that FIFA are going to extend the deadline for Leagues to complete the 19/ 20 season indefinitely. The priority seems to be that leagues should finish the season in progress before starting new seasons.

1.) 06 Apr 2020 19:33:42
Thank god sanity may possibly prevail.

05 Jul 2017 23:03:42
Hi Eds, sorry if this is old news, but I was wondering if any club came in for Flanagan? I know you were all pretty sure his time was done, but is there any firm interest?

{Ed002's Note - Nope.}

1.) 05 Jul 2017 23:25:03
Thanks for the response.

{Ed002's Note - A decision will need to be made whilst the transfer window is open.}

2.) 06 Jul 2017 12:03:18
We should try him out in place of Clyne during pre-season to see if he can replace him. If not, then he should be sold. Be nice to see an academy product in the team.

3.) 06 Jul 2017 12:14:53
johnny i think we will have TAA as the rotationplayer for clyne/ milner.

Flanagan looked promising a few years back but injurys set him back a few times and i don't think he will be even second choice anymore.

On todays market we could get around 5-7 mio for him and if we get an offer we should take it.

4.) 06 Jul 2017 13:40:52
Flano is not a crosser of the ball and this is what Klopp needs in the modern wingback. I'm afraid his time is up. Unless he wants to keep him as backup which is doubtful, since we already have a much more capable and promising youngster in place.

16 Mar 2017 14:15:51
Some online sources and italian sources (tuttomercatoweb) recirculating rumours that Klopp has "identified" Mahrez as his #1 target for the summer. Is there any credibility to this? Last year the man looked amazing, this year he has looked lost at times and is, apparently, one of the names behind the ousting of Ranieri. Even if it is true, is he even someone we want at the club?

{Ed002's Note - Juventus has a declared interest in Riyad Mahrez but I am not aware of Liverpool showing any interest - and again it makes no sense unless Mane is leaving. Efforts I am aware of relate to left wingers where the club is seen as short.}

1.) 16 Mar 2017 17:41:49
Thanks for the response Ed.

{Ed002's Note - You are welcome.}

2.) 17 Mar 2017 06:29:39
Is Ojo seen as an option across other positions rather than on the left or is he not considered good enough? Sorry just the age of some of the names floating around isn't much more than him so seems odd.

{Ed002's Note - I don't know if Klopp doesn't think he is ready but he has chosen not to use him. He can also play on the right.}

3.) 17 Mar 2017 21:11:12
Mahrez might be worth a shout but only as long as his head is in the right place. Set pieces would benefit so much and he'd link up well with Bobby and Adam.

Think Couts main position will be in midfield should Mahrez come, and Mané move to the left.

Liverpool Twitter Feed has klopp saying Matip out for rest of season.

Ankle ligament damage.

01 Feb 2021 22:36:08
We have to trust in Klopp and his team here. Ben Davies could turn out to be the bargain of the century, who knows?

I am really disappointed to see Minamino go out on loan. I wanted to see what he could do for us. He has impressed me far more than Divock has and I thought he was (in the very limited time he has been given) growing into the system and adapting to the premier league game.

If the loan happens, hopefully he will get ample opportunity to develop further and come back as a genuine alternative to the front three.

1.) 01 Feb 2021 22:42:57
Maybe Minamino has been let go on loan for a reason. To get the game time he needs to see if he can prove he can make a difference in the squad. Unfortunately for Origi I feel his days are numbered in the summer and a loan move wouldn't change that.

2.) 01 Feb 2021 22:43:13
Like you mate I'm disappointed but please God he will get good game time, get used to the league and come back to us a better player.

3.) 01 Feb 2021 23:25:28
Why are peeps so impressed with mini? Looked lightweight for the Premier league to me. And when jota back wouldn't get a look in.

19 Dec 2020 14:32:54
What really stood out to me today was player attitudes.

And if you need to know anything more about the importance and attitude of Bobby Firmino, look at his face when he is subbed off while on a hat-trick game. Smiling. no pouting, no shirking hand shakes or hugs, no sulking. Just smiles and hugs and encouragement. He is the ultimate, self-less team player. It is not about stats for him, just what is for the good of the team.

I love that man!

1.) 19 Dec 2020 15:00:21
Adz I never looked at it like that until you said. Excellent points.

12 Nov 2020 11:34:11
Morning Ed's,

I deem to remember this question being asked a long time ago, but I could not find it, so I thought I would ask again.

If a player is injured on international duty, does the club he plays for get compensated?

Obviously the club will have to continue paying wages for a player who can't now play, and will look into treatment plans they may incur them additional medical costs.

Does the countries FA take on any of this, or is it an accepted risk of players playing internationally?

Appreciate your insight on this.

{Ed002's Note - In the Premier League most players are insured against long term injuries and clubs can, if they want, claim against the insurance with due consideration of the implications of what happens with the premiums. In some case players will be too much of a liability to insure. In terms of injuries sustained on international duty, claims can often be made against the insurance carried by the International FA concerned - although generally it covers much lower amounts given wages are so high in England. African nations do not all carry insurance.}

1.) 12 Nov 2020 11:41:12
Thanks ED02. Seems like the club just has to eat the costs overall then. Appreciate you taking the time to reply.

2.) 12 Nov 2020 12:44:18
Insurance claims could possibly be our main source of income this season. Lol.

18 Oct 2020 11:40:24
Eds, can we assume that considering the Pickford incident was seen by Michael Oliver and not considered by the VAR that there will be no further disciplinary action from the FA?

Genuine queston, what do Liverpool hope to achieve by referring this matter to the FA for investigation?

{Ed002's Note - It will be nothing to do with The FA. Liverpool can ask the Premier League the question as to why Pickford's challenge did not result in a red card; and if answered it would likely drop in to the questionable area of whether or not Pickford was making a genuine attempt at playing the ball. There may well be a statement that after reviewing the footage that the VAR official should have gone back and looked for a possible red card - but I would think that might well be the best conclusion that can be expected.}

1.) 18 Oct 2020 12:19:57
if it were me, I would want an explanation of what happened in the decision-making. but to be honest, whatever they explain, even if they come out and say they made a mistake, it doesn't really tangibly help anything. just peace of mind to know what should have happened, if that is the case.

I feel sad for the whole situation and especially VVD.

2.) 18 Oct 2020 12:25:02
I fully agree, Ed02. That is the best case scenario, if they even comment on it at all.

3.) 18 Oct 2020 12:35:16
Thickford was making a genuine attempt for the ball but he was reckless and out of control.
The offside decision gave the officials an easy way out. If he'd punched- and probably missed- VVD, he'd have been sent off and that challenge was far worse.

4.) 18 Oct 2020 12:38:46
I just find it bizarre how VAR in England, got the most lucrative league in the world can get things so wrong!

The US and Australia both allow VAR to walk through the incident live to the fans and give an explanation of why they make a decision, none of this drawing lines on a screen in silence on a frame they hope is the closest whilst the rest of us work out what is going on.

5.) 18 Oct 2020 13:23:42
SR, VAR is no the problem. It is the way it is used in England. I mean, how can you say that an offside HAS to be black and white as a rule knowing full well that offside has NEVER been black and white? That is the height of the absurd. Had there been no VAR, the Hendo goal stands and NOBODY would have bat an eyelid. Even with VAR, the goal should have stood.

The issue here was that the rule says that you are either offside or onside hence, there is NO room for interpretation which is the foundation of officiating. On a play like that, the VAR should either be allowed to judge it or if it it is this close, the decision on the pitch stands as there is not enuff evidence to overturn it or have the ref go look at it instead of trying to create a situation out of absolutely nothing, IMO. This is my issue.

What makes it even worse is that, the VAR mysteriously does not inform the ref of the VVD incident BUT was very willing to work triple overtime just to find an offside situation where there was by many accounts, none to be found. Go figure.

6.) 18 Oct 2020 13:27:21
Thanks Ed02. I assumed as much.

7.) 18 Oct 2020 15:11:02
I'm seriously considering stopping watching until VAR stops ruining games. The whole thing is a joke.

8.) 18 Oct 2020 17:04:54
Not to mention the VAR line used to rule out Hendo's winner clearly not being parallel with the line of the area.

{Ed002's Note - These little VAR things happen every week - try and stop whining about them.}

9.) 19 Oct 2020 18:46:06
That's the point. they happen every week. That means there are poor decisions every week that affect teams and not just us. It's a disgrace. Should be stopped until they can use it properly.

Pretty certain the Andre Silva of frankfurt is no Diego Jota's brother. His brother, also named Andre Silva, plays for Boavista and is 5 years younger than the one who plays for Frankfurt.

{Ed077's Note - you are correct👍

HI Ed02,

Do Curtis Jones and Neco Williams not count as Home Grown. or are they not registered because they are U21?

{Ed002's Note - They are under 21 so.

The man has 18 months left on his contract. There is talk of him moving in the summer, but there may well be a contract offer on the table by then. Who knows? But talk of him going is about 18 months premature.

I think the no loans comment was more about Ryan Kent, not Harry Wilson. I think they were more concerned that Wilson needed guaranteed game time rather than no loan.

{Ed0333's Note - correct. Klopp said words to the effect that no more loans for Kent better for player and club for him to be sold.

Current trending on social media says that it is Man Utd. One "journalist" went so far as to say that he had already signed. MUFC account says that Mourinho is interested but reports of an agreement are not true.

I am sorry, posts like this are just so infuriating. Firmino is integral to the way we play. He is the reason the salah and mane score like they do. This total lack of understanding from fair weather fans amazes me.

I will be very interested to read Eds report. they all looked tired, sluggish. The same route over and over again with little to no flair or improvisation. Mane looked frustrated, Salah was non-existent. Total domination in terms of possession, but there was no spark or creativity at all.
