Good weekend to catch some points on the teams above us, providing we win that is.

Anyone know how Benteke's scan went?

{Ed002's Note - It was a low humming sound lasting around 4 seconds.}

Duran Duran

His name is Danny and he dances on demand.
Just like a legend shooting through the keepers hands.
And when he scores he really shows you all he can.
Oh Danny, Danny dancing up and down the land.

One for Ed002 please if you are around.
Are we in any danger of breaking the UEFA fair play regulations?
We have signed a lot of players this window and are rumoured to be looking for further additions. I know that we have sold Suarez so that will have put a healthy slice towards in comings, but with the fees and wages (I don't want to get in to figures, don't worry) that this years additions will cost, plus the continuing increase of debt against the club, surely this is going to raise a few eyebrows with fifa?
It is expected that we won't spend big after this summer for a while, maybe this won't be through choice. Also, with the young age of the squad and how the team should grow over the next few years maybe the owners are expecting some sanctions?
Am I reading too much in to this?

{Ed002's Note - It depends on several factors. If the turnover this season is not as high as predicted, then there would be an issue there. However, I would think Liverpool have already breached the wage increase limitations. The debt is a business issue but obviously the owners need to manage that, like they need to manage the significant additional debt updates to the stadium will cost (say £150M plus interest and charges). There will be additional revenue from television, from selling naming rights to the stadium etc., but it will be a long haul to get square again. Many folks over estimate the income from the additional 15k seats. Given what has been spent on some players this summer there may not be the profit there when they are sold in the future.}

1.) Why are Chelsea not in the same boat as man city, barca and PSG? They've made one annual profit since 2004.

{Ed002's Note - (1) The profit was recent but in other years the turnover has been high. (2) Chelsea have been compliant with the Fair Play rules in the three years since they were introduced.}

2.) They are taking a very big risk doing this.

{Ed002's Note - In the short-term I don't see an issue with UEFA - a strongly worded letter or slap on the wrist. In the longer term the risk is much higher and the stakes are much higher. The business really needs to stay on top of this and I would suggest that when the moves start in respect of the stadium, and there are dealings with banks, sponsors, the press etc. to be done, that the board will recruit someone, possibly with a US or UK banking background, to run that whole side of the business from England (London).}

3.) I seem to remember something about some, if not all clubs being audited over a 2 year period rather than one - obviously that would mean that we could make up the losses in one year over the next however i'm pretty sure we don't fall in that bracket

also aren't stadium costs totally exempt from ffp?

rather leave this to the money men to do the hard work but the finances interest me nonetheless

{Ed002's Note - It is a sliding three year window that allows the owners to contribute to the business in terms of FFP. So the first three years 11/12 to 13/14 are the first window, 12/13 to 14/15 the second and so on.}

4.) 19 Aug 2014 16:25:21

You could clearly see Chelsea transfer deals past an year. They sold Mata and bought Matic and Salah in Jan. They sold Luiz this summer and bought 3 players in Fabrigas, Luiz and Costa. They also sold, KDB and others would be on the list.

The reason they didn't went for Luke Shaw was FFP.

{Ed002's Note - And Lukaku, Van Aanholt, de Bruyne, Bruma and Ba have also been sold. They have had income from other sources related to transfers as well. These aren't declared in the same way. The reason for not buying Luke Shaw was nothing to do with FFP.}

5.) Ah ok Ed so would I be right in saying that in order for us to run at a loss one year and be safe in terms of ffp we would have to offset that loss equally in the 2 years either side of it in order to break even over all 3 year auditing periods? or am I totally wide of the mark?

{Ed002's Note - No because it is backward facing - the three years is the one just finished plus the two before. Liverpool were at loss the two seasons before last - I suspect they will be in much better shape when the figures for the season just past come out in the spring.}

6.) Harry try not to comment on things you can't comprehend. Since 2004, every annual turn over vs spend, is in the minus. There's more things to running a football club than buying and selling players. I'd imagine only arsenal and united are the only 2 prem clubs to actually turn over more than their spend on a consistant basis.

7.) 19 Aug 2014 19:47:46
A lot of people might not agree but it is really commendable the way Chelsea have been running the financial side of things the last few years especially transfers where they seem to make a profit by selling backup players and bringing in better players without any significant net spend. I think we would do well to emulate that. Easier said than done though I am sure they will have some of the best people running the show for them

8.) 19 Aug 2014 20:05:12

Mate you didn't read my reply. I clearly mentioned Chelsea spending from last year. And what's this 2004?.
I would like to share something I know clearly, We are in debt and have been the biggest spenders from quiet sometime.

9.) 19 Aug 2014 19:29:16
Cheers Ed002, thanks for your reply. Guess we had all better hope for a top 4 finish (minimum) and a couple of nice cup runs.

10.) I think you could be the man for the job Ed

11.) 19 Aug 2014 19:28:58
Ed002. If not the transfer fee or wages, What was the reason Chelsea walked out from the Shaw deal. (Shaw being a boyhood Chelsea fan)
If you could

{Ed002's Note - The asking price was seen as too high although they could have perhaps negotiated it down a little. His expectations for wages was more than double what Chelsea would pay.}

12.) 19 Aug 2014 19:35:30
Ed002 do you think our owners are acting responsibly or running the club a little gung-ho?

{Ed002's Note - I think they are doing OK but are aware of the risky nature of where they are right now.}

13.) Thanks for the info Ed, are you of the impression that the owners are getting on top of things are are they walking on a tightrope atm, on a surface level I have to say i'm much more content with FSG than H&G haha

{Ed002's Note - They know the risks.}

Maybe Gomez was to be given a chance in pre season to get his fitness back up and for Klopp to have a look at him after being out for so long (didn't he get injured just just as Klopp arrived) . Now that isn't going to happen I think he might be sent on loan to get back on track and cover has arrived to allow this to happen.

Why can't you have an opinion about a player, just because he hasn't kicked a ball for us? There are lots of players that I think would be a waste of money, GW is one of them. The fact that he didn't want to fight and keep Newcastle up and the fact that we are stacked in that position is enough for me to think that we would be better spending our money on someone else. I am not saying that the lad isn't talented and if he comes to us then he will get my full support. Just because I have on opinion doesn't mean I am slagging players off.

I didn't watch him at all last season, so can't comment on how he played while on loan, but I think he has a lot of potential and I would give him another chance. Skilful, pacey and knows where the net is.

Think we need to play either him or sakho, not both. Both have a tendency to lunge in and need someone who can get them out of jail playing next to them, someone who can organise and reads the game well. I rate both players tbh.

Let's watch them play first shall we DBol. I for one am very excited about the coming season. We have added goals and pace to the squad and addressed most of the problem areas.

Not sure how many points he has cost is but I can say that I have seen him cost us games with either poor passes, decisions or positioning that have led to goals. We win or loose by goals so I think an outfield player can cost you a match with out scoring an own goal.
