It seems like Slot is mentioned as the preferred choice for Liv now and Amorim looking rather unlikely by the media. Ed2, you do mentioned that for you Slot is a good candidate and a good fit for Liv.

With many top clubs looking for a new manager, I would assume he would be looked by others as option. Is there any other clubs interested in him other than Liv?

Agree1 Disagree12

{Ed002's Note - Arne Slot (C) Complete wildcard, but a great coach and very good option for many of the sides looking for a coach. Will be considered by Barcelona and by Bayern Munich. He and his coaches have done a great job at Feyenoord and got them back ahead of PSV and Ajax to win the league a couple of years ago. He is an excellent manager and a very pleasant guy. Previously of interest to Spurs and Chelsea. Would be my pick for the Liverpool job.}

24 Apr 2024 09:14:33
top kudos to you Ed002 for mentioning Slot a while ago,

Agree1 Disagree1

24 Apr 2024 11:37:31
Thanks Ed002, always value you opinion and Knowledge of the game!

Out of curiosity, how would you compare slot vs Amorin? Outside of the obvious formation wise

Style play, style of management etc.

Agree1 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - I would not consider them entirely different.

23 Apr 2024 17:11:18
Looks like Arne Slot is the new man.

I expect a period of transition no matter who the manager is but so long as we play exciting football to watch, I’ll be happy in the short-term.

Respect to Ed02 who has been suggesting Slot for a while now.

Ed2. Has been mentioning Arne Slot from the beginning.

Paul Joyce tweeted 2 hours ago “Feyenoord coach Arne Slot interesting Liverpool. “

Fabrizio Romano just tweeted the following “One more direct contact will take place soon between Arne Slot and Liverpool board to discuss more key points of the project.

Slot, keen on Liverpool job and concrete option as he’s highly rated by #LFC. ”

I don’t know much about him as I don’t watch the Dutch league. All I know is he turned down both Spurs and Chelsea in the last few years.

All I know is when Joyce is very reliable when it comes to our Liverpool affairs. So it looks like our next coach is Arne Slot.

Impressive call by Ed to be fair. He did say he would be a good choice some time back and the one to watch.

Agree4 Disagree0

23 Apr 2024 19:12:03
Mr Amorim (or his agent) might have blown the opportunity to manage LFC by being too quick to yap to the media too often.
As we all know LFC like to keep things inhouse and he has shown himself to be the exact opposite.
We don't need a drama queen at this club.
Rumours have it he is also looking for £200,000 per week after tax!
A double barrel straight in the foot there.

Agree5 Disagree0

23 Apr 2024 19:27:23
I have a strong preference for not a Dutch manager. No disrespect to Slot or any other Dutch manager some of whom have been great players and outstanding coaches in the Dutch league. But, culturally they are not as compatible with the English game and player/ club culture as some other cultures. I'm not going to quote names, but there have been more than 2! This is not intended as anti-Dutch, its just an observation.

Agree3 Disagree0

23 Apr 2024 20:06:12
I can think of some very successful Dutch Managers. I think ETH at Man Utd has people worried that every coach from the Dutch league will be as bad as him.

I have no idea about Slot. He could be just as bad, he could be worse or he could be amazing. He has done well in his short managerial career so far.

If he gets the job, he'll have my full support, just as anyone who we hire.

Agree3 Disagree0

23 Apr 2024 20:22:25
I'm inclined to agree with Viva. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but a Dutch manager has never competed for a title in PREM and have only been decent 'cup' managers.

He might succeed where gullit, Jol, van gaal, de boer, ten Haag have failed but I think Dutch coaches are too wed to the 'dutch philosphy' and not really flexible enough to succeed here.

23 Apr 2024 20:51:11
Hiddink did okay at Chelsea.

Agree3 Disagree0

23 Apr 2024 20:58:51
English and Scottish managers are by far the most successful nationalities in English football so the next manager has to be either Gareth Southgate or Steve Clarke.

Agree4 Disagree0

23 Apr 2024 20:59:52
Not like those German managers with their 100% win rate.

Agree1 Disagree0

23 Apr 2024 21:10:26
In fairness Nevada, none of those managers had squads or were at clubs with a structure to win a title.

Agree0 Disagree0

23 Apr 2024 21:15:32
I'm not overly in awe of Slot as a choice either but if it is him he'll have my support.

Agree2 Disagree0

23 Apr 2024 23:19:23
Isn’t it a fact that no English manager has ever won the prem?

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - yes. But how many of the top clubs have had English managers?}

24 Apr 2024 04:25:24
How many top grade English managers have there been in the PL era?

Agree0 Disagree0

24 Apr 2024 08:05:39
Are we saying that football management ability varies from nationality to nationality? That’s a pretty wild theory. Wouldn’t it be more the case that footballing management ability varies from person to person?

23 Apr 2024 11:49:30
I’ve not heard much talk about Simone Inzaghi. (Apologies if I’ve missed a discussion) . Having won a league title and CL would he be the kind of profile FSG are looking for?

Agree2 Disagree7

{Ed002's Note - Simone Inzaghi is not of interest to Liverpool.}

23 Apr 2024 12:39:32
When did Inzaghi win the CL?

People are worried about slot being a Dutch manager but surely the same concerns about other candidates, alonso one yr managing? Amorim. From the Portuguese league? Alonso could have fallen flat as could any manager, so let’s just support who ever we get and be grateful hodgeson has retired.

23 Apr 2024 11:40:38
good morning ED’s is the gary O’neil rumours true that he has had a interview at the club?
thanks.

Agree0 Disagree15

{Ed002's Note - Gary O'Neil (C) If Moyes departs, O'Neil will join the likely candidates for West Ham. I suspect he will stay where he is. Links to Liverpool are likely just to be with the input of Richard Hughes – I really cannot see the club going that way – it would be a shock and I think risky with so little experience.}

23 Apr 2024 11:22:49
Does anyone think a leftfield appointment from South America might be on the cards?

Someone like Marcelo Gallardo maybe?

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed002's Note - Marcelo Gallardo certainly won't be joining Liverpool.}

22 Apr 2024 23:44:45
Hi ed,

Any opinions on Kovac and his style of play? Curious after reading that his representatives have spoke with Liverpool.

Cheers.

Agree0 Disagree4

{Ed002's Note - Niko Kovac (C) Another coach who is currently available after being sacked by Wolfburg - but has a so-so record and he would be a surprising choice for Liverpool in my view - but I am told not to rule him out with his agents having spoken with the club.}

23 Apr 2024 10:06:34
Scrapping the absolute bottom of the sea bed. From Alonso to Kovac in the span of months.

Agree13 Disagree0

23 Apr 2024 12:39:08
Honestly can’t believe we even spoke to him after three successive sackings and all the issues he has created with players. The fact that he is even in consideration to talk to is worrying if that’s the best we can look to (and we have spoken to his agents, that has been confirmed) . His application should have gone straight in to the bin.

Agree6 Disagree0

23 Apr 2024 02:39:52
Paulo Fonseca being linked too.

There’s an interesting one. He’s got a good record, likes to attack and develop youth players.

Agree3 Disagree0

23 Apr 2024 06:40:36
We must have reached the bottom of the barrel if we’re at him. Calling him a journeyman is being generous. That or the journalists are now sticking random names in a hat and hoping for the best.

I’ve read this morning that Amorim is tipped for us, this is the first public hint I’ve viewed anywhere other than on this great site, I read it on Live soccer tv. There’s a little bio on him too.

Agree1 Disagree0

23 Apr 2024 07:47:04
Kew, that article read like an AI produced round up of previous rumours, so wasn’t saying anything new. According to the usually reliable David Ornstein, Amorim has spoken to West Ham, he’s unlikely to join us as manager and we’re apparently looking at “other options”.

Agree3 Disagree1

23 Apr 2024 07:57:33
Interesting Kew. Ornstein (one of the more reliable journos) has tweeted last night that he’s now “unlikely”.

I think Ed002 mentioned that we couldn’t agree terms/ responsibilities with his agent.

Agree1 Disagree0

23 Apr 2024 08:16:18
If we’re not going to land an recognised TOP drawer manager We might as well go for Gerrard. He will, at the very least, win instant respect of the dressing room- manage egos well. Who knows the club DNA better? He will fire up a squad that will feel deflated post Klopp (unless we pull off the miracle of winning the Prem)

Agree2 Disagree8

{Ed025's Note - him or Lampard would do me Kenco.. :)

23 Apr 2024 08:42:54
Good god I'd rather have De Zerbi over Gerrard and that's saying something.

Agree13 Disagree0

23 Apr 2024 08:45:22
"My rumours are truer than your rumours".

Agree4 Disagree0

23 Apr 2024 09:10:35
Kenco, stick to coffee as football isn’t your thing, Gerrard will never be good enough or competent enough a manager. A career in punditry is awaiting him on Match of the Day.

Agree9 Disagree0

23 Apr 2024 09:13:32
The idea of Thomas frank is growing on me.

Prem xp, good personality, good football. Pros and cons to everyone who isn't klopp.

Agree0 Disagree11

{Ed001's Note - good football? Since when? Good shithousery, but never good football. They are horrible to watch, all niggly fouls and time wasting.}

23 Apr 2024 09:53:27
Clutching straws but bits I've watched outside playing the top teams prem sides when he's had players at his disposal like mbeumo the football looked good.

Obviously I'm far from an expert or really know what I'm looking for to be honest, I like him tho and his personality.

I'm terms of who's being linked and reported who do you feel is the more suited, better option.

Agree0 Disagree11

{Ed001's Note - I like him as a person, he comes across very well, but he is not a top level manager. He is at his level.

There is no top option out there. The standout is Alonso, the rest are huge gambles. Amorim and Slot are the next best options probably.}

23 Apr 2024 10:16:36
Good Lord. We've gone from the prospect of getting Alonso to Amorin to now discussing Kovac, Frank and Gerrard?

I think I'm going to puke 🤮

Ed1, if it's not Amorin or Slot, who else can we go after?

Any wildcard options like Fonseca, Motta, Michel etc? Any of them good in your opinion? I can't say I've seen any of their games.

Agree3 Disagree6

{Ed001's Note - honestly the rest are all huge gambles. There is no one who has the outstanding qualities or has shown himself to suit the Liverpool way, other than Alonso. Even Amorim and Slot are big gambles.}

23 Apr 2024 10:35:39
Opinion on Slot Ed1? I haven't watch Dutch League or his Fayenoord team. How is his team plays and what formations did he use? To be honest the idea of a manager from Dutch League as our manager doesn't convince me. We all saw what happen to Ten Hag at UTD. And Ten Hag manage to get his Ajax side to UCL semi final but look out of his depth at UTD.

Agree0 Disagree8

{Ed001's Note - I haven't really seen enough of Slot's Feyenoord team to really judge him properly. It is more about the record he has, compared to money spent that makes him a standout. I do have the same fear I have to say.}

23 Apr 2024 10:52:55
Why do people think Frank would be a good appointment? He would be catastrophic, the man has absolutely no track record of success and his teams play horrible football, this is far too big a job for him.

Agree2 Disagree0

23 Apr 2024 11:03:53
What about Inter's Simone Inzaghi Ed1? I don't know why his name has not being mentioned as potential Klopp replacement. He seems to be doing great with Inter, last season UCL finalist and blowing out competition in Serie A this season. Inter just lose once this season and conceded only 18 goals. Don't know whether he speaks English or not though.

Agree1 Disagree3

{Ed001's Note - not for me. Every time I saw his Lazio team play they were so bad to watch and his Inter has been the same. He doesn't seem to have the right personality either. All clubs are unique and require the right personality to be a true success and I don't see signs of him having it.}

23 Apr 2024 11:45:15
After the German season has finished, Liverpool need to go cap-in-hand to Alonso's agent and have another go at getting him.

Agree1 Disagree2

{Ed002's Note - He won't be joining Liverpool.}

23 Apr 2024 11:50:02
2000s Portsmouth Mafia could be running the club! Gary O’Neil latest to be rumoured.

Agree0 Disagree3

{Ed002's Note - Gary O'Neil (C) If Moyes departs, O'Neil will join the likely candidates for West Ham. I suspect he will stay where he is. Links to Liverpool are likely just to be with the input of Richard Hughes – I really cannot see the club going that way – it would be a shock and I think risky with so little experience.}

23 Apr 2024 08:37:33
Ed25.I see you haven't lost your sense of humor.

Maybe it's because Everton are basically safe now. unless the FA decide to deduct more points.

Since you're throwing Lamps name around. why not just add Allardyce to that list? Or even Moyes since Amorim is replacing Moyes.

I reckon we are all going to be shocked by the next appointment. can't wait!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - all good candidates i would say JLC, we are talking top notch candidates here mate.. :)

23 Apr 2024 15:57:32
De zerbi's better than people on here think, wouldn't surprise me at all to see him do great things if he went to a top club with a squad to match.

Agree1 Disagree0

23 Apr 2024 16:47:35
ED001, if we are way down our list of preferred managers, what do you think of Iraola at Bournemouth? Seems to have turned a relegation threatened team in to one that is more mid table (after the players bought in to his ideas) . Could he step up?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - before he went to Bournemouth he was certainly very impressive in Spain. He seems to have turned it around on the south coast as well. Like all the other options, it just seems a bit soon for him to be getting the Liverpool job.}

23 Apr 2024 18:23:12
I have done a bit of research and Slot might not be that bad of a gamble. He plays attacking, entertaining football which also press high up the pitch. He uses a 433 or 4231 which would fit with the players we currently have.
Feyenoord have the most tackles in the final third over all Dutch teams. He also operates on a smaller budget to those clubs around him, sound familiar?
The more I read the more I like.
