Ed's if Brewster were to be sold would the club look to replace him?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I would not think so.}

09 Sep 2020 23:00:02
Ed002 would you say the funds would go towards other players of interest for example Sarr or Thiago or would you still think a player in their position like Shaqiri or Wijnaldum still need to go before that? Klopps comments today, although can’t be taken as gospel, seem to suggest we might not be in the market for anyone else.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool don’t have the money to make the wanted signings. Klopp has his favourites like Thiago and Carlos, and has had his tongue down the throats of Traore and Sarr. I still think something may well happen and as I have said the club can probably find a little money to help out. The asking price for sales is scaring off buyers - an offer for Wilson at £12M was rejected and £20M demanded - so it is rather a Catch-22 situation right now.}

Brewster is an option to replace Origi in my opinion, but i don't see the logic in replacing him seeing as he played about 2 games for us last season.

We have lots of young strikers anyway. Joe Hardy, Paul Glatzel, Layton Stewart etc. So if we need someone to play a couple of Carabao cup games we could just give one of them the opportunity.

Seems ludicrous to turn down that bid for Wilson in the current climate. Who were the interested side if you don't mind me asking Ed?

Agree3 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Aston Villa but it was way below what the club want.}

09 Sep 2020 23:44:46
I think £20M is a very reasonable price for Harry Wilson even in the current market.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - have you seen him sean?, very good at set pieces....and thats it, if it was like american football and you could just bring him on for his kicking then hes the very man, unfortunately you cant and the rest of his game is gash mate..

09 Sep 2020 23:57:32
You only have the ball at your feet for about 3 minutes in the 90. Wilson is unfortunately not good enough in the other 87. For £12m we should've bitten their hand off in my opinion.

£12 million seems a bit low for Wilson whilst £20 million seems a little high. I’d say something around the £17 million mark seems about right.

I think Origi is set for a breakout season with us.

I'd prefer Origi sold and hold onto Brewster.

Hi Ed025, yes I have indeed seen him. His stats are good from his loan to the championship, nope didn't watch any of that but last season in the premier league for Bournemouth I saw a few of their games and highlights. I have seen enough of him to have an opinion on him.

Lovely left foot, great dead ball delivery and superb at direct free kicks. Happy to get on the ball, good control and passing (I don't mean cross field balls but tidy passing) . Relatively creative. Goals and assists are worth a lot and he has proven himself capable in that department.

Now the other side, why he doesn't have a long term future at Liverpool and why he is £20M (imo) rather than £35M. Off the ball looks a little lazy, not sure is it poor tactical discipline/ understanding on his part or lack of effort. This is by far his biggest flaw imo and is enough for him to not suit Liverpool. Fitness issues - don't think he has injury issues but he rarely plays 90mins. This may relate to his lack of effort defensively or him going missing in games.

He does still have the talent to score and create goals at premier league level. Should suit some team's formation surely.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - i think thats a pretty fair assessment sean, maybe he could do a job for one of the lower tier teams but as you say he would have to up his game i think mate..

10 Sep 2020 07:09:20
I agree Harveys Man Bun, 12m and a 20% sell on clause would have been a done deal for me.

Cheers for reply’s Ed. If Gini and Brewster are sold, not that I am hoping they are but surely we will then have enough to bring in Thiago minimum. That would be both Gini and Lallana go in the CM area.

12 million doesn't even get you a Nottingham Forest right back anymore. I think 20 million is more than reasonable.

Wilson may get someone 10+ goals a season, but honestly looks to be championship level overall. 15m would be acceptable if i was playing championship manager.

10 Sep 2020 08:24:28
Ed002 thanks for the response. In your opinion would you expect Liverpool to potentially lower the asking price of players like Wilson, Shaqiri and Larouci who don’t seem to have any future or has there been no suggestion that this will happen, or the original interest gone. There is a while left in the window of course but surely we run the risk of being stuck with players who won’t he used or having to send them on loans again.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - The problem the club has is that there are simply not buyers out there at the prices being asked. The club need to make a decision whether to lower their expectations, keep them or let some leave on loan (which they very much wish to avoid). If there was an easy way to sell Shaqiri, Wilson and Grujic then Liverpool would have taken it - and now Brewster can be added to that list.}

10 Sep 2020 08:50:43
Ed002, do you think deals similar to the Ings sale, where we send a player on loan with an obligation to buy at the end of the loan period, would be a good solution?

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Yes it might be an option but clubs may resist making commitments that they don't know if they can keep next summer. And Liverpool want funds now.}

10 Sep 2020 09:20:24
Some of these fringe players are highly rated amongst Liverpool fans here. not sure why people are suggesting to lower the price.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - for the exact reasons you have stated tyrion, its only liverpool fans who really rate these fringe players mate..

10 Sep 2020 09:51:10
It's time for the club to lower their expectations. Maybe in another season, we could've bargained for higher prices, but most clubs are short of cash and can't afford to spend big money only for the signings to not work out. And it's not like the players we're trying to get rid of are key players or top quality either. If we continue holding out for higher prices, we're just going to be stuck with them and then what? We receive no cash, we have to use up more squad space, and they're probably not going to play much either. We'd also fail to strengthen with whatever money we could've brought in from the sales of Wilson, Grujic, Larouci etc.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - hard to argue with that mate..

10 Sep 2020 09:52:31
Ya I agree Ed025 no matter where he goes next he needs to up his effort levels, be less of a passenger and stay more involved throughout. At the moment he has flashes of brilliance and quality which could be critical to a lower team getting some points to try avoid relegation.

On the other hand he also has the quality to do well mid table level, if the right coach could up his work rate then wouldn't he add a bit of creativity to the likes of Sheff Utd. I wouldn't see Wilder willing to take that risk but would be interesting to see how it would work out.

10 Sep 2020 10:09:05
Ed25. Whilst your about, you must be happy with your new midfield, surely a cull of existing players is next? 😀.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - hopefully john, we have quite a lot of dutch elms there mate who need culling, im a lot happier than i was a month ago thats for sure..

10 Sep 2020 10:13:31
He he ED025. It's quite the same with every club. We are not in a strong position today and we aren't going to regret selling any one of them. Klopp wants new additions and we don't have money. Sell them reasonably. Not one single player is wanted by any top clubs says a lot about their level. I would sell every one of them and buy one top-class first team CB.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - if they are not going to figure much tyrion then you are dead right mate..

10 Sep 2020 10:08:24
Ed you mentioned Traore there as a player of interest, I would imagine he would cost a ridiculous amount of money would he not?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Yes, Wolves have FFP commitments that they must meet and would look for a very significant fee for Traore.}

10 Sep 2020 13:13:38
It seems like there is a lack of negotiation with us though are we playing such hard ball that clubs won’t even return with an offer, take Wilson for example we want 20 mil and rejected the first offer but no comeback.

It seems like we may be a difficult club to deal with and if we don’t sort it and shift the driftwood it’s going to create a major imbalance in the squad.

There is no way a group of players that aren't being played and are being priced out of a move are good for squad morale?

Agree1 Disagree0

10 Sep 2020 13:36:38
If the striker Villa bought from the championship was bought at the price he was, one could kind of see why FSG see the value of Wilson as higher than 12-15m, after all he is a proven goal scorer in both the championship and the Prem.
Everyone seems to be going poker face, hoping that the other will fold and give in and i do expect to see more action come the end of the window when a little panic sets in.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - The owners don't assign values to the players.}

10 Sep 2020 14:21:01
To be fair, Weston, we didn't negotiate with Norwich for Jamal Lewis either. We got quoted a higher price, and promptly moved on to Tsimikas. Other clubs might be doing the same, although I suppose our conduct and the way we've dealt with others hasn't exactly endeared us to them either.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Sep 2020 17:47:56
Wilson's not worth 20 mil. Should be happy to get 15-16 which is reasonable.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - in this climate it may even be a little less than that JM..

10 Sep 2020 19:21:25
Yeah Ed25 there seem to be a lot of players moving for roughly their market value or slightly above. Except the likes of Fábio Silva of course with a big markup for his potential, but generally the huge inflated premium on players appears to have come down. So for a player Liverpool don't really want to keep I'd expect them to accept an offer of around 15m including add-ons and what-nots. It's not like he cost them anything and they already made 3.5mil in loan fees for him.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - its a fine balancing act for liverpool JM, if they want a player in then some of the fringe element will have to be sacrificed mate, that will free up some wages and open up a squad place for someone klopp really wants to be there..

hello eds any truth in
Dominik Szoboszlai to lfc. i don't no much about the guy hopefull u can shed some light.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Dominik Szoboszlai (LM/CM) has been the first choice Sergej Milinkovic-Savic replacement for Lazio since the summer of 2019. Lazio have a declared interest and at the right price RBS could take the money - but only if Milinkovic-Savic departs. Milan have spoken with his agent (when it was likely Ralf Rangnick would take over) - but RBS were not happy with Milan. Milan has serious financial issues and the club may not now be as keen as the planned new coach and would look to include players in any deal. Inter have spoken with RBS. Napoli are interested as a replacement for Allan. Juventus interest dates back before Sarri took over as coach and Arsenal interest was from a scout the club fired and a previous coach - their position will be driven by what happens with Ceballos. Chelsea were interested when he was younger and at Liefering but could not offer him regular game time now - the scout who was keen on him remains keen though. PSG see him as a far cheaper option to their other midfield targets. The likes of Atletico, Dortmund and Fiorentina have scouted him but it has gone no further just yet. Salzburg have no desire to sell.}
