Good business all round. Hopefully Tiago can get his career back on track and we even managed to turn a small paper profit on someone who played 3 games for us.

Thought we paid £7m for him?

We haven't made a profit, quite a significant loss. 7 million to buy, wages etc.

He was bought at £3.5m

TM reports the purchase fee was £6.38m, but whatever, no point getting bogged down with figures. The main thing is he can finally get his career back on track. Hope he becomes a real success, and not just because of the reported 35% sell-on clause. ;)

The 7 mill was based over clauses the initial outlay was much less.

Only mentioned paper profit. We paid £3.5m for him as per another poster above, with add ons potentially bringing that to £7m. Given he only played 3 games, the add ons weren't ever required.

Of course we paid wages, fees etc, but we have so often over the last 10-15 years made significant losses on our 'gambles' when other teams often make profits or break even. I am glad that in the last couple of windows we have started achieving much better sell on prices for players that are no longer part of our plans (Benteke, Ibe, Smith, Ilori etc) as this ultimately benefits our finances.

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool paid €7.5M for Ilori before any add ons. They then paid taxes (€1.125M), a signing on fee, agent fees, €375k FA registration, Tax due on the agent fees – typically this is VAT at the local rate where the agent bills from – it is not reclaimable, legal fees, relocation costs, wages, insurance ..... the loan fee of £350k from Aston Villa was repaid by Liverpool - I don't see any "paper profit".}

Fair enough, Ed002. It appears the papers have it wrong (as usual! ) as they are reporting that we paid £3.5m as a transfer fee before add ons.

My point was merely that we don't seem to be getting as badly stung in the market when selling on players as we have done in the past, which is a good thing.

{Ed002's Note - The figure I gave was what Liverpool registered on the TMS.}

Yeah and the registered fee for Sakho at the same time was £16.15. So I'd expect Liverpol to accept something close enough tho that rather than the £20 that is being reported.

{Ed002's Note - The registered fee is not in £. Sorry.}
