Shaqiri to Lyon.

09 Aug 2021 21:18:46
ed0666 if they are in for Shaq would you be happy if we used him as a make weight to sign Aouar. I did not see him last season but the season before he looked quality when I did see him only just turned 23 so good age.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed0666's Note - I’d take Aour oven Bowen and Sanchez yes. There is a quality player there and I feel with the right guidance he could be very very good

09 Aug 2021 21:45:31
Me too, Ed666.

09 Aug 2021 21:50:59
I don't know how true it is ed see his asking price was about £25m and if that true seem a no brainer. £10m and Shaq would be perfect but from what I have seen from the last 2 friendlies If we signed nobody with Ox looking like him self from 3 seasons ago before his injury and Minamino looks like the player that played against us but he looked a lot stronger.
Really looking forward to the season ahead I don't care what people think come may I sure we will be champions again think we are going to be like we was 2 season ago.

ED0666 - now Messi has left Barca, do you expect them to push to sign Saul?

Also, I’ve scanned all the other rumours websites plus the European pages to lads if I can find out if any other EPL sides are looking at Saul but could not find anything. Do you happen to know where there is serious intetrst?

Regards,

KR65.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed0666's Note - I really don’t think Barca are in any position to sign Saul without departures. If I was a betting man Saul will be a Inited player but I’m hoping Edwards has a rabbit up his sleeve but hoping those rabbits aren’t Sanchez and Bowen.

10 Aug 2021 00:59:54
What is the fixation with money some fans have . We as fans have nor a clue how finances work in a club. The best think to do is hope the club hierarchy do and hope for good signings and stop playing fantasy football in your heads.

Agree3 Disagree0

10 Aug 2021 08:20:23
If it is financially impossible to sign Saul this summer, we should just leave it. None of the above mentioned (Bowen, Sanches, Aouar) are good enough for us.

Agree1 Disagree0

10 Aug 2021 10:01:06
Unless Lyon offer substantially more than the Alleged £5m they will not be getting Shaq.

Agree1 Disagree0

10 Aug 2021 10:06:29
If it is financially impossible to sign Mendy or Brandt this summer we should just leave it. None of the above mentioned (Robertson, Salah) are good enough for us.

I'm not trying to be glib, Lowe, but if we do sign any of the names you have mentioned (Bowen, Sanches, Aouar) then I have faith in the recruitment team and Klopp.

Agree6 Disagree0

10 Aug 2021 10:26:18
Zeddicus, no need to be snarky. My opinion is that Liverpool should be targeting among the best players around now. We have an unreal football team, and should be focusing on two additions a year to improve the first team and therefore the squad, with the remaining places given to promising youngsters from the academy. I don’t see any of the names mentioned improving our first team. If we don’t have the money to improve the first team directly, wait and look for future avenues to do so.

Agree1 Disagree0

10 Aug 2021 11:31:25
I wasn't being to be snarky Lowe, I was just pointing out that there have been players in the past that we all (me included) have thought wouldn't improve the team and therefore we should keep our powder dry.

However, subsequently, those players have ended up key members of our first team and whose values have skyrocketed. Robbo is the prime example - I was completely and utterly underwhelmed by us getting an £8m LB from a relegated team rather than the (new shiny) Mendy who ended up going to City. I was completely and utterly wrong and Klopp and the recruitment team saw something that I, and the vast majority of other posters, didn't see. Mane was the same, possibly Salah, Gini etc. The only players that I saw as being obvious improvements were VVD (albeit I thought we overpaid) and Alisson. I also think Konate will be a great addition.

So, how can I, or you, say that the names that you have mentioned are not the right players to move us forward?

We must remember that the names we are being linked with are, predominantly, coming from tabloids. We don't know what's really going on behind closed doors of the recruitment team.

Agree6 Disagree0

10 Aug 2021 11:46:17
Never mind Zeddicus those of us who are blessed with insight and predictive powers over and above those of the LFC recruitment team will continue to have the long view of the best signings.

10 Aug 2021 11:49:26
Difference between Robertson and Salah and Sanches and Bowen is that both Robertson and Salah were consistently brilliant for their respective clubs prior to joining us. It’s fair to say that Sanches hasn’t been all that good for Lille (I’m not swayed by a couple of “ok” performances in international tournaments the fact he’s barely played half the available games for Lille says a lot) and Bowen has been ok for West Ham but not exceptional, and certainly not worth a £35m outlay considering we have Jota, Minamino, Elliott and Ox already at the club. If we’ve got the money for those two, we’d be just better off putting all our eggs in one basket and buying Saul or Bissouma.

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Aug 2021 11:55:46
Few players at Lyon I would like if a swap+cash is on the table for Shaq. Maxence Caqueret and Lucas Paqueta, the latter having some very good G/ A stats (granted it's ligue1)

Agree0 Disagree0

10 Aug 2021 12:23:44
FWIW, Sanches is the one that would leave me scratching my head.

Effectively getting Bowen for the sales value of Phillips and Origi (cash out - cash in or partial/ full player swaps) could be interesting to see.

I've always been a fan of Aouar since we were linked some time back.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - commeth the aouar commeth the man.. :)

10 Aug 2021 13:45:10
THIS! This is why I would like to see Aouar! Pun-tastic! Thanks 25!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - no problem zed mate.. :)

10 Aug 2021 08:27:55
Ad0666 am with you on Sanchez and Bowen, I think Bowen is a decent player but I bet West Ham will want close to £40m for him after they paid £25m and I would rather keep Shaq than pay that. As for Sanchez just don’t think he is anywhere near good enough and with his fee and wages I would rather him not come as he would take Jones and Elliott’s minutes of them.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed0666's Note - I am still hopeful we don’t sign both of we do we have no choice but to support the players.

10 Aug 2021 16:45:51
Like I said above, I can see the value in Bowen, and if we are including a player in the deal then it makes it easier to get to a reasonable value, IMO - "if you overcharge for yours, we'll overcharge for ours"!

I don't see the player there in Sanches, not through lack of ability - I think he was only 18/ 19 when he played in the EPL before - but his injury record.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2021 18:46:16
Are Nat and Shaq injured as both have not been part of both games over the last 2 days. A few of the young lads have been in the bench both games. Or is this a clue that them 2 are close to getting move.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I very much suspect they are close to moving.}

09 Aug 2021 19:04:07
I think that’s good news. Hopefully at least £20m for the 2.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2021 19:08:19
Would Origi have to be moved in addition to them 2 for us to consider dipping into the market ed?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It depends on how clubs will accept players being paid for.}

09 Aug 2021 19:13:59
Any idea who they might be moving to Ed. And if they do move Ed do you think there money will be used towards incomings or paying of last season transfers. If so hope your wrong about sanches.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Try searching.}

09 Aug 2021 20:00:52
Looks like Lyon have made an offer for Shaqiri.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed0666's Note - I wonder if Tiki is gonna stay now from what
My buddy is telling me whose at the game he’s having a very good game? Shaq & Aour swapy’s?

09 Aug 2021 20:04:15
Would love to get your opinion on Aouar. Seems to be more of an attack-minded midfielder, is that what Klopp would want to replace Wijnaldum?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed0666's Note - not at all mate. Aour plays out n the left side of the midfield and we don’t need him but I would love him at Liverpool as I think we can rejuvenate him but clearly he’s a luxury at the moment

09 Aug 2021 20:05:15
You reckon eds? I'd take that swap.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed0666's Note - so would I but I don’t think we need him mate

09 Aug 2021 22:22:16
Just back from the game taki was good on the turn on the shoulder but Ox by far the stand out player. Beck looked good again but Kostas was fine no probs covering robbo for a while.

Jones went of as a precaution, Thiago and Hendo looked lively and Bobby was on fire.

Agree2 Disagree0

09 Aug 2021 18:12:55
No Phillips or Shaqiri in tonight's squad. Moves getting closer I wonder?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

09 Aug 2021 18:16:33
Any update on Robs injury. Big loss if he is out for a long period.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed025's Note - not yet jack..

09 Aug 2021 18:27:19
Neil Jones has mentioned that they may be on the way out, and as a result Liverpool have decided not to risk them. However he has also said that nothing is close yet.

Hope we move them on - as Shaq career has stagnated and Phillips will go the same way of he stays as 5th choice.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2021 19:37:32
Phillips won’t be 5th choice though, as Gomez and matip are consistent sick notes and we’re yet to see if konate is injury prone or not. VVD coming off a big injury as well, letting Phillips go over matip is extremely baffling to me. I know matip is the better player, but he’ll play less than a quarter of the season, what’s the point. Phillips earned his stripes and we reward him by letting him go. We even hesitated to play him in the first place over the likes of Rhys Williams, these are the times I question the decisions made, because they don’t seem to have any logic involved from an outsiders perspective.

Agree3 Disagree0

09 Aug 2021 21:46:24
Kman - i understand your thinking. However i don't think Phillips wants to stay and be 5th choice and wait for Matip to get injured (which he most likely will) as then Konate or Gomez is likely to take the starting role, then you need Gomez to get injured and Konate will take the starting role and so forth.

therefore Phillips would need at least 2 of the starters to get injured to be first backup let alone start games and at his age and the season he just had, he probably feels it is the right time to move on, as he will have better suitors then if he stays a year as 4th/ 5th choice and hardly play as most teams will forget he even exists.

Agree3 Disagree0

10 Aug 2021 22:15:27
Kman92, and what happens to Phillips if these two players actually stay fit or don’t miss that much time? You are aware that Phillips will only get a chance to play if both players are injured, right? Sorry, that is illogical, IMO.

There is simply no path for Phillips at LFC right now and it is the club’s job to do what is best for its players and do right by them. Phillips has earned the right to ply his trade in the PL at another PL club and the club should grant him his wish if that is what he wants, sick notes or not.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2021 15:18:03
What's the latest with Neco Williams Ed's? Move looked likely but seem's to have gone quiet now.

Whilst we're discussing Williams's, Inaki from Bilbao, always surprising that's he's never been target of a top European team. Is that due to Price of the player or is he happy at Bilboa?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Neco Williams (RB) Was to be sold to generate funds but nobody has shown interest at the asking price. That means a loan is likely. Southampton may still look for a loan with an obligation to buy.

The primary driver to stay where he is reflects Inaka Williams being a Basque.}

09 Aug 2021 16:06:13
Livramento was bought for the first team for the saints, and he was half of the quoted price of Neco and likely a better player too, so we can forget the Saints bidding.

Agree1 Disagree0

09 Aug 2021 16:48:26
I've mentioned it before, Unless Neco wants regular first-team football which I think is unlikely in the premier league, I don't see the value in cashing in on under 10 mil when that will then become another position we need cover for. He's more than good enough to fill in for 30 minutes or the odd cup game to give TAA a rest. Is the lad in the academy good enough to step up if Neco does go, was it Beck or is he a LB?

Agree4 Disagree0

09 Aug 2021 16:56:35
Owen Beck is a LB - based on his appearances, I'd say he's 3rd choice behind Robbo and Tsimi.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2021 17:05:31
We will need to give Gomez game time at some point. Gomez is a better rb than Williams.

Agree4 Disagree0

09 Aug 2021 17:30:48
Any chance Ox will be sold and is the supposed interest of the Saints real?

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2021 17:48:12
markp08 I would not play Gomez at right he might be ok at the defending side of the game but offers very little going forward. I can't believe so many people have wrote Williams off he has played 25 games and has only just turned 20. Yet Livramento is likely a better player without one first team match under his belt.

Agree2 Disagree0

09 Aug 2021 18:34:12
Where would you play Gomez then? If he plays rb it would be the perfect opportunity to play the front 4 altogether.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2021 18:41:22
Where he fits naturally, and where he's starting tonight. Centre back. We had enough bellyaching last season about players being played out of position when it was deemed unnecessary.

Agree2 Disagree0

09 Aug 2021 18:51:48
For me Mark his a cb and that’s where I would play him it’s up to him now along with Matip and Konate to partner VVD but for the first 3rd of the season all 4 and going to be rotated after all 4 missed massive parts of last season.

Agree1 Disagree0

09 Aug 2021 18:53:06
I repeat: I still think we all underestimate Gomez's ability - defending, crossing and passing. He takes a mean freekick too.

Agree3 Disagree0

09 Aug 2021 19:07:19
I agree GD. If you only play Gomez cb he will probably become a bit part player. League cup etc. That’s just not right,

Agree1 Disagree0

09 Aug 2021 21:48:57
Gomez at RB should be done away with forever. A guy with the type of knee injuries he has had, should be nowhere near a position where he has to run up and down as much as our fb’s do.

Agree2 Disagree0

09 Aug 2021 22:17:36
We have more than one way to play Olired, he doesn't need to bomb up and down if the right team is picked. Konate can play rb as well so that might be a better option.

Agree1 Disagree0

10 Aug 2021 08:23:07
Shoehorning players into other positions when it's not needed just to see how well they do doesn't sound like a good plan to me.
Maybe as emergency cover, but other than that disrupt the balance of the side as an experiment?

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2021 14:15:24
Ed2 what's the latest regarding Renato Sanches? Is Liverpools interest confirmed?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Renato Sanches (CM) Lille are happy to let the player move on due to the constant muscle injuries he suffers; they wanted €20M cash or €30M with payments spread out although that could increase if Jorge Mendes can find multiple bidders or if there is no sale before the season starts. Klopp has praised him in the past and he would be a more affordable replacement for Wijnaldum, but not the preferred option for Liverpool. Barcelona has a sustained interest and he would prove to them to be financially viable whilst they work their financial issues. There has been a discussion with Arsenal and he will likely be offered to Spurs as well. Prior interest of Wolves will likely have left with NES. The concern would be injury issues and, although talented, he is inconsistent. His agent says there have been further talks with bothe Liverpool and Barcelona.}

09 Aug 2021 15:27:56
Eds, is Bissouma still the most likely acquisition for MF for the reds? Are Brighton the most likely buyers for Phillips?

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - No.}

09 Aug 2021 15:29:58
Will be Liverpool then.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2021 16:19:30
Surely our physios have enough work on their hands?

Agree2 Disagree0

09 Aug 2021 19:39:16
VVVV, we like injury prone players unfortunately.

Agree1 Disagree0

09 Aug 2021 13:46:23
Hi Eds, do we have interest in Aurelien Tchouameni? Thanks.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Other clubs do but not Liverpool.}

09 Aug 2021 12:26:48
Hi Eds, have we interest in Aurelien Tchouameni? Thanks.

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Others do but no Liverpool.}

09 Aug 2021 09:22:35
Klopp: "There might still be something happening before the end of the transfer window. " - quote after the game.

Klopp usually never gives away anything to do with transfers so that's encouraging. Usually he will say nothing is happening if nothing is genuinely happening. Looks like at least someone will be coming in before the end of the window then.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

09 Aug 2021 10:26:09
But who?

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Sanches and Bowen perhaps?}

09 Aug 2021 10:49:51
Ed002, don’t do that to me on a Monday morning.

Agree3 Disagree0

09 Aug 2021 11:25:06
Super smashing great!

Agree1 Disagree0

09 Aug 2021 10:36:00
I think you are right Ed. That’s pretty underwhelming but let’s hope Klopp can do his magic.

Agree1 Disagree0

09 Aug 2021 11:22:45
I'd take that Ed.

Think its a decent window that.

Agree1 Disagree0

09 Aug 2021 11:29:13
We always knew one or two players would be signed before the end of the window. Ed002 has consistently told us that for 2 months. Bowen I think would be good he knows where the back of the net is. We don’t need any more injury prone players so Sanches would be a big gamble. My choice would be to put any monies to just signing one top midfielder player. Athletic cut through us time and again yesterday.

Agree2 Disagree0

09 Aug 2021 11:41:34
I don’t see that we need another wide forward as we’ve got Salah, Mane, Jota, Elliott and Ox who can all do that, and our treatment room certainly doesn’t need Sanches to occupy it for over half a season, every season for the next five years. We’ve already got Naby Keita for that.

Agree2 Disagree0

09 Aug 2021 12:04:44
"might" is the key word in that statement.

Agree2 Disagree0

09 Aug 2021 11:09:00
I hope not. Whilst both would strengthen the team somewhat I feel there is better quality out there.

What fee would Brighton be expecting for Bissouma Ed002?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - They don’t want to sell a doc they did it would be too much.}

09 Aug 2021 11:25:58
Ed is Sanches not going to Barcelona I thought they had agreed personal term with him. Hope we don’t sign them 2 Bowen would cost a decent amount they paid £25m+ for him and his been decent for them so they would want a fair bit more than that for a player who I don’t think would be much better than what we have.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Barcelona or Liverpool.}

09 Aug 2021 11:39:33
Has Sanches not joined Barcelona Ed?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Not yet.}

09 Aug 2021 11:53:29
I think its either going to be Bowen or Danjuma and Sanchez. whoever comes in Klopp knows what he is doing.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2021 12:59:37
Renato sanches?
Why is no one interested in pedro Gonsalves sporting lisbon.

Agree2 Disagree0

09 Aug 2021 13:02:16
In fairness Athletico were cutting through a midfield of a 36 year old, an 18 year old and according to many on here the worst player ever to lace a pair of boots. We still have a midfield of Hendo, Fab and Thiago to come back.

Agree1 Disagree0

09 Aug 2021 13:02:50
Come on Barca. Get that deal over the line! Dembele needs company in the sick bay!

Agree5 Disagree0

09 Aug 2021 13:02:52
Always try to give a new signing the benefit of the doubt and hope/ pray they succeed but this is definitely an occasion where I hope Barcelona sign Sanches.

Agree3 Disagree0

09 Aug 2021 13:13:13
So reading between the lines the Sanches deal is dependant on foreign player leaving. More than likely either Origi or Shaq.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2021 12:29:56
ED002 - can we rule out Saul Niguez signing for Liverpool now? Or is he still seen as a viable option?

Regards,

KR65.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - He is still an option.}

09 Aug 2021 12:50:12
I’m assuming Ed that we have now been in contact regarding Sanchez. Surely Barcelona can offer more wages than us.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2021 13:44:44
Hi Ed002 - Has WHU made Bowen available for transfer? Or is it more a case of Liverpool and maybe the player pushing for a deal? Also, did WHU set a price at which they would consider a sale? Thanks.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - West Ham are aware of interest and have a replacement in mind.}

09 Aug 2021 15:39:20
-----------Don't post anything about the finances - you simply don't understand -------

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2021 17:44:24
Daretodream I think Barca's current inability to keep paying high wages has been very starkly highlighted by the fact they've had to let one of the finest players ever seen leave as they couldn't afford to keep paying his high wages.

Not that I think we'll get Niguez but surely if his wages are an issue for us then they are as much an issue for Barca?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed0666's Note - Messi departing barca is the best thing to happen to barca ever!!

09 Aug 2021 21:41:18
ED002 - does that mean we are willing or have some funds to purchase Saul but wages are still an issue - or are we still to raise funds for this purchase on top of the wages.

Sorry if that is a stupid question. My question was due to being told previously that Saul would cost around €60-€70 mil

Sanches is certainly cheaper and younger but his injury record is not great.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Saul would be more difficult because the club will look to having a payment plan if possible. But don’t rule him out - but others are also interested.}

09 Aug 2021 22:19:43
We should put all the eggs in one basket and go for Saul. We still have 4 or 5 players to sell.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2021 09:16:07
i got to say i know there is the old cliche of "like a new signing" but i think the summer off for Salah and Mane have really let them have some R&R!

Elliott is looking promising not bad for an 18 year old.

Klopps comments look like we are trying to sign 1/ 2 more potentially before the start of the season. can see Shaqiri going soon.

Believable4 Unbelievable0

09 Aug 2021 10:23:59
Mane is looking very sharp!

Agree1 Disagree0

09 Aug 2021 11:35:26
I agree Max. We Mane back to his best, he is one of our most important players. I think he will have a great season.

Agree3 Disagree0

09 Aug 2021 13:00:55
If a unwanted player plays good oh its pre season. If a fav player plays good oh he looks sharp 🤷‍♂️.

Agree2 Disagree0

09 Aug 2021 13:11:58
It’s only friendlies, but Mane has looked like he has that bit of pace that he was missing at times last year and he looks well rested too.

Agree2 Disagree0

09 Aug 2021 13:45:54
Are people forgetting AFCON is this year? We literally lose both salah and mane to that, are we good with firmino, jota and Elliot and would that be sufficient enough to maintain or push a title challenge? Unless we have changed our expectations to maintaining top 4, I don’t see how people aren’t thinking we need reinforcements in this area. I understand if it’s from an economic stand point, but some people genuinely believe we don’t need reinforcements and that we would challenge without any 😂. The epitome of rose tinted glasses.

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2021 14:24:16
Kman, we lose them for three league matches at most, and some FA/ League Cup matches which they wouldn’t have played in anyway, so for three league matches I am pretty sure that Jota, Firmino, Elliott and Ox should be more than sufficient. I’d be more worried if Henderson and Fabinho were out for any period of time as we have pretty threadbare options beyond those two.

Agree1 Disagree0

09 Aug 2021 07:37:07
Harvey Elliott is on a different planet, we will not sign a centre midfield I expect Elliott to start against Norwich Saturday. Especially if Hendo and Thiago are out. Rhys Williams Loan clarkson loan Ben Woodbury loan Phillips sold and shaqiri sold. To fund danjuma deal.

Believable2 Unbelievable0

09 Aug 2021 08:15:01
I don’t think Elliot will start v Norwich. Fabs will come back into midfield along with Milner and Keita.

Elliot seem to have moved ahead of Jones though.

Agree2 Disagree0

09 Aug 2021 09:19:27
Yes, seems that way Mark. Elliot plays like the true No. 10 we've been missing for some time. Aggressive forward play, without missing the tracking back, pressing and everything else Klopp demands from his midfield. Jones seems to have been molded by Klopp into a No. 8, which we have quite a few of. How's he ever going to stand out?

Agree0 Disagree0

09 Aug 2021 09:39:42
The season in Blackburn did wonders for him. He is so confident, strong and matured. He looked better than Trent in 18. In fact, he looked better than an 18-year-olds in Merseyside.
