I've seen several posts asking for a backup for Salah/ Mane. The likes of Arnautovic and Shaqiri have been mentioned, neither of which good enough, young enough and won't want to be on the bench.

My choice would be Brighton's Anthony Knockheart. He's skillful, fast, really works his socks off and I've not heard of any attitude problems (like I've heard about the other two) . I also think he'd be happy to be on the bench for a big club and prove himself and/ or be cover.

What do you think?

I think he'd fit in really well to Klopp's system.

I do rate knockaert but I’d rather go for izqueirdo because of his sheer ice and dribbling ability. He would fit better in our system imo.

I said last season that we should go and sign Zaha and Pieters from stoke. klopp could then either rotate front four or drop mane into midfield Pieters would be a good back up for Robbo. I'm afraid Moreno isnt.

Arnautovic not good enough but Knockaert is?

Agree2 Disagree0

07 May 2018 05:49:35
Langland- you said last season that Pieters would be a good backup for Robbo? We didn’t even have Robbo last season.

Agree1 Disagree0

07 May 2018 08:16:48
That's actually a good choice. Will he be willing to come with limited playing time? .

Agree1 Disagree0

07 May 2018 08:37:13
Not good enough on the ball to play in our system! Aurnatovic is ok!

Agree0 Disagree3

07 May 2018 10:06:02
Well it's certainly divided opinion.

No name and Cobra666: I was referring to the fact that Arnautovic wouldn't want to be backup or have to prove his place in the side, wheras Knockheart is young enough and I also think flexible enough.

I said last season that we should sign Pieters and Zaha.
We didn't sign either.
We should sign them this season.
Pieters would be a good back up for Robbo and if ever Salah leaves we should play Pieters a faint him.
Zaha would be a brill addition. Proven premiership and Klopp could make him a better player.

{Ed001's Note - oh yes buy dross to take us forward to a new Hodgson era. Great.}

07 May 2018 15:44:09
I personally think he’s too inconsistant and feel like we’ve took a big step in our quality of recruitment in the last 18 months, would like to think we wouldn’t take a backwards step targeting mediocre players again. An attacking midfielder capable of playing in the front 3 is what I thinks best, then we can both rotate them and have them all starting when needed. Abit like how coutinho was used in the first half of this season.

Agree0 Disagree0

07 May 2018 17:20:15
TIA19. Inconsistency is what you often get with young players. Just them when they have a good game and when they're having a bad day, if they're still giving 100% (but just not quite pulling it off) and that's enough for me. On his good days, he's absolutely quality. He really gave Man Utd's defence a surprise and something to think about.

Consistency can be coached. The raw talent can't.

I really hope I'm not shooting us in the foot here. Touch wood he doesn't have a blinder against us next Sunday. Haha.

Shaquiri? Anautovic? Zaha? Good grief, what is going on here? As Ed said, these guys are not good enough to even be the backup to our backups. Instead of these guys, I would just stick with Harry Wilson and the other kids. Like Epic, I do like Knockaerts and to some extent Izquierdo even tho, they may still be raw.

07 May 2018 22:18:38
I think Redmond from Southampton would be a good shout to cover both wings.

Agree2 Disagree3

08 May 2018 12:39:45
Haha, come on Ed001 surely, a 29 year old Championship left back with one assist in 29 games is the answer to our prayers. Knockaert and Izquierdo are decent players but not really good enough for Liverpool and the premium on Premier League players means we'd get better value elsewhere. And good grief another Redmond fan. Please give it up, he is just pants. Is it because he scored a goal on Saturday? You know that's his first all season? He's not even good enough for Southampton and Harry Wilson is already a better player than Redmond.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - Redmond has been awful all season.}

08 May 2018 18:02:26
Redmond? Yikes!

{Ed0333's Note - I have no idea mate this is probably a question for Ed’s 001 & Ed’s 002. I only get on here to wind people up about Andy Robertson transfer gossip is not my remit.

From what I’ve heard and been told Liverpool are in talks with Lyon. A deal hasn’t been agreed yet, but Liverpool are hoping to have a deal in place before the final.

06 May 2018 20:00:10
Fekir is coming?!

Agree4 Disagree3

06 May 2018 20:07:05
Well my source is reliable. He told me Robbo, Ox, Solanke and Keita deals would happen but told me at least a day before ‘news broke’ and he’s told me today that it is true we are after Fékir, and are in talks. With the view to something being sorted by the final. Make if that what you will. But I trust my source.

06 May 2018 21:17:06
where the Fekir did this rumour come from?

Agree4 Disagree0

07 May 2018 15:34:16
Ben Elf he didn’t say no though
He said "during the game we agreed a deal? Id be surprised about that to be honest. No comment"

We all know he likes to throw a bit of humor on things and he isn’t exactly the one who will be over at Lyon trying to break the deal is he? :)

06 May 2018 18:28:33
Stories coming out of France that we have agreed a deal with Lyon to sign captain Nabil Fékir. Apparently Houllier held the negations with Liverpool and a €70 million deal has been agreed. The contract is 5 years.

Don't know how true this is and I have to be honest never seen the guy play. Can anyone confirm this and what Fékir is like?

06 May 2018 18:41:13

This guy is a more powerful version of Coutinho, hope the reports are accurate, we need quality and strength in depth to compete at the highest level.

06 May 2018 19:26:18
I'd be happy if we signed him but these stories just seem like more idle gossip. No concrete source, 2 reports from Canal+ and RMC, a denial by Aulas. I doubt anything has been agreed. I hope I'm wrong though.

06 May 2018 19:46:41
Why would Houllier be doing the negotiations?

Ed002 I know you have suffered a lot of unfair and ridiculous abuse of late from the as you would rightly put it gilfnards of this site but if you could answer me this one question please, is there any genuine substance to this story? Any response would be greatly appreciated but I would also understand if you chose not to answer. Thanks mate.

{Ed002's Note - There is no deal for Fekir GBB.}

Jonesred - I've watched a couple of Lyon's games this season. Fekir is moderately fast, has a low center of gravity so he turns and pivots really well, and dribbles well too in tight places. Very technical type of player who can pass and kick in a curling free kick. What I really like about him is that he always looks to take on his man and beat him. A lefty who plays mostly on the left side of midfield, even though he roams around midfield.

06 May 2018 17:35:10
Hi ed can you give me your opinion please do you think we'll lose salah like we did tores Suarez and coutino?

Believable4 Unbelievable2

{Ed002's Note - AS you know he Salah has had his agent approach Real Madrid and, more recently, Barcelona. He has had an exceptional season and there may well be interest but his finacial demands and an issue surround a clause he wants in his contract my end any chance of interest being shown. Liverpool will almost certainly not want to sell this summer and will resist any offers.}

06 May 2018 18:32:41
He'll leave eventually, but I reckon we'll get the best out of him before we sell him, like with Torres.

Agree6 Disagree0

06 May 2018 19:07:03
Interesting about Barcelona. I obviously have no knowledge, but just based on Ed002's information that he has his agent approach different clubs, I don't see him being in Liverpool long.

Agree8 Disagree1

07 May 2018 00:42:32
Let's just hope it doesn't become another Suarez/ Coutinho situation that drags the club through the wringer.

if he wants out, negotiate an agreement with Real/ Barca/ PSG for next summer, and be done with it now.

Otherwise this is all we'll hear about next year. Not what the club or the team needs.

I think that’s a little of red tinted glasses to be honest Ben. If he was playing for UTD we’d all be laughing and calling him a donkey, but all of a sudden because he’s with us he’s full of potential and is the next best thing? Well that may be and maybe he will come good (obviously I hope so) but I have seen nothing from him to suggest he can impact a game coming off the bench, let alone challenge for the starting striker position which is the sort of quality we need behind Bobby. He’s not quick, has an awful touch and doesn’t hold the ball up well enough for a fella his second size. I know he hasn’t started often, but he has missed plenty of good opportunities in the games he has played this season. Clearly has not happened for him this year, so I hope he can kick on, step up in preseason and really push for more starts, however I’m simply saying that I he leaves this summer we won’t miss him.
