Both our keepers are clearly not currently good enough.
Once Leicester's flirtation with the CL is over is there even a slim chance we can persuade Schmeichel to come in as no 1.

Believable1 Unbelievable13

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool has no interest in him and Klopp has already secured the goalkeeper he wants. The club needs to make a decision about Danny Ward given I would expect Mignolet to move on in the summer. I said before Begovic was an obvious choice and available.}

04 Dec 2016 22:03:30
Just a suggestion if any of the EDDS are around, could the problem be JOHN ACHTERBERG, we get a new manager who buys a new keeper who is as bad as the previous keeper, it doesn't add up. just a suggestion.

Agree4 Disagree2

{Ed001's Note - I have said for a while he is not a good coach for us. Nice guy, really nice guy, but he is still learning his way as a coach and we should have the best.}

Which one of the first 3 goals could Karius have realistically saved?

I think he could've done better preventing the 3rd and 4th Ron . I don't like picking on players, but puzzled why we replaced Mingo by this keeper.

Ed002 would begovic have joined us having once turned us down before? Also I question his ambition going to chelsea knowing he would be 2nd choice. Be nice to know your opinion.

Cheers Baz.

{Ed002's Note - Yes, of course.}

The 3rd goal? It was a cross into a crowded penalty area, our defenders let their centre back control it and he smashed it into the corner on the turn. Karius had no chance!
What about the defence stopping the cross or even being in the right position to defend the cross. Ridiculous to blame Karius for the 3rd goal.

De Gea made an almost identical mistake last week, and yet he hasn't suddenly become crap. Players are human and will make mistakes. Its just its more obvious when a GK makes one. The issue is how does he respond. Migs' biggest mistake is that he dwells on the errors and it appears to affect his judgement as a result. Karius needs to show he will learn from his mistakes but shrug them off too. Give him time and see how he goes. It took De Gea almost 2 years to show people what he has got (ManU fans were spewing about him for most of that time) and yet I reckon most here would jump at the chance to sign him.

@Ron - the 2nd goal was poor from Karius - went under his body when he should really of been saving it. 4th was just a routine save that he made a complete hash of. He was directly at fault for those 2 goals - 2 goals a better keeper would probably not have conceded. It is still early days and he is a young keeper - we can only hope he improves. How likely that is with Achterberg as coach is open to debate.

A very good friend of mine has told me Bercovic was offered a first class route to Liverpool but the man himself insited London is the life for him n his lifestyle is that of an unpaid or should that be unplayed superstar.
He even scoffs at the idea of him not plying his trade but still appearing on Match Of The Day Extra.
Not the greatest individual to have at your club.

Did someone seriously suggest Kasper Schmeichel?
1) he's not better than either Mignolet or Karius.

2) Do you not think the constant brain farting from our defenders and midfielders when under pressure and consecutive mistakes are more to blame?

Dennis
The Leicester keeper is much better than both of our keepers put together.

Did anyone notice Fraiser Fosters error on the weekend. It happens to all goalkeepers. Just give karius a chance. Its his first season and he will only get better with time.

Forster is a terrible goalkeeper who frequently makes mistakes - not the sort of GK you'd want to be compared to.

{Ed025's Note - i think forster is a good keeper seano...i can think of worse.. :)

05 Dec 2016 23:44:03
I think your all to quick to blame Karius! Yes he made a complete hash of the 4 th goal, but the rest I wouldn't of expected him to save. The second was low and I'm the corner I don't think your apreciating how hard it is to get down that quick, the third, matey on there team had time to control it and get a shot away! Poor defending in my opinion. I think our problem with conceding is our defensive structure! It's all well and good pressing high up the pitch but once they have possession in our half we should adapt a more organised defensive structure. If you watch the other top teams when defending even against the small teams they are well organised and drilled.

Ron, gk are only good when they pull off saves that are unrealistic to save, if not they ate just plain avetage. Peter Schmichael, DDG been doing that and save their team min 6-10 pts a season and all title holders have these kinda keepers.

Karius is more style than substance at the moment. Like a lot of modern day footballers, would rather look the part than be the part. That's why you find a million youngsters who can ping 40 yard balls, pull off fancy tricks and walk around with headphones, but they don't have the intangibles:- desire, heart, courage, determination, fight, and team ethics. As long as they look good, they're halfway there. When your goalkeeper is a model, you can sure as heck guarantee when the going gets tough, he'll be looking for the hair wax to make sure the camera get's his good side. Give me Ogrizovic any day of the week. In fact, I'd probably say Massimo Taibi was a better player.

Pretty sure he does not go out there to perform badly, he had an off day it happens to us all. Like i have said we need a better coach than john and we may stand a chance of improving our keepers. Anybody can work 16 hr days but if they do not have the expertise it matters for nought.

Karius comes across as lacking in confidence rather than talent and john has everything to do with that. Also i suspect the prep in terms of scouting opponents just is not being done and that again lies at the door of john. Maybe they should send him to shadow a high performing a couple of days a week to see how it should be done, just a thought.

Apparently Peter Schmeichel offered to pay his own fare and digs to get a trial with Liverpool when Souness was manager. Souness said no.

I also heard that Cantona was offered to us but Souness thought he was too much trouble.

Has anyone else heard this?

Cantona had a trial with Sheff Wed but Howard Willinson thought he was too disruptive.

Hi Ron.
Did Cantona not play for Wilkinson at Leeds utd?

Apparently Fergie rang Leeds enquiring about Nigel martyn and Wilkinson turned him down but Fergie said for the crack what about Cantona and Wilkinson let hum go For 1 Million I think.
Bargain of the decade I'd say.

You're right mate, might have been Trevor Francis who was Wednesday manager. Anyway, I know he had a trial at Wednesday and was deemed too disruptive.

I've always thought Cantona was over rated. Maybe it's just me. Wasn't he voted best ever player at utd? I wouldn't have him in their top ten.

Cantona was signed for a bargain around the same time as Beckham, Scholes, the nevilles, Butt, and provided leadership to these young lads.
Add in Keane, Irwin, Giggs and Schmeichel etc.
And you have at current transfer values
A team worth maybe 500,000,000 assembled at a small ffraction of the value.
The rest as they say is history.

Karious is young and would prefer him in goals with him learning from mistakes than migs who hast learnt in 3 years. However, if we were going to have a keep per who is young and accept there will be errors then we should have saved our 4-5 million and played Danny ward.

Hey Ed01,

Today's game showed us the immediate need to address our CB issue. Any insight, if we have been keeping tabs on any CB's for the winter window.

Thanks as always for the wonderful work.

{Ed001's Note - we weren't looking for January, but that might have changed after today.}

04 Dec 2016 17:06:05
Hi ed001, wouldn't that be re-active? There should be plan to continuously renew the squad. Or klopp thinks current CB are good enuf to win league.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - of course it is reactive, you always have to react to the changing situation. We always have the scouts looking for possible players to improve the team, we only move for them when they are seen to be an improvement. Alongside Matip, the other defenders look fine, it is only now that Klopp has had a chance to see them under pressure in a real game.}

04 Dec 2016 17:27:20
Van Dijk, a target? Or is it just a rumour?

{Ed001's Note - rumour.}

04 Dec 2016 12:45:18
Am expecting Jordan Ibe to be out to impress Klopp today to prove he was wrong to sell him albeit there is a rumoured buy back clause.

He'll be running at Milner and Clyne at every opportunity and shooting from everywhere.

When on his game the kid can be spectacular.

Any interest in Alexis Sanchez? Is he not out of contract at the end of next season and fits Klopps system. He might find the revolution at Anfield enticing.

Believable0 Unbelievable4

{Ed001's Note - except that he had no interest in joining us to replace Suarez, as he wanted to go to London. I really do not expect that to have changed. If he leaves Arsenal, it is more likely he would go back to Italy or Spain. Or perhaps PSG.}

04 Dec 2016 07:43:07
Dreaming much?

04 Dec 2016 11:26:29
Would be a huge loss for Arsenal if he left, he's just incredible. I'd of loved to of seen him in a Liverpool shirt, i'm almost jealous of Arsenal having him but if he didn't want the move to us then fair enough. - Maybe we should offer Sturridge for him? haha.

Arsenal may look good at the moment but something about them reminds me of how we was a few years ago, relying on 1-2 players, without these players (Ozil and Sanchez) I don't think they'd be anwhere near us. Atleast Liverpool have a complete squad who are all looking excellent, or the majority anyway.

Juventus maintain firm interest and this goes bavk to his time at Udinese. Sanchez could consider it seriously as huge have more chance at trophies than Arsenal.
