Summer Ins

Ashley Young
Charlie Adam
Karim Benzema
Fabio Coentrao
Sylvian Marveaux
Gervihno

Also bids will be made for Micah Richards and Yan M'vila.

Finally Poulsen, Konchesky and Degen are all leaving.

What are the chances of this happening Ed? {Ed001's Note - Benzema and Coentrao will not be easy but the rest seems very likely.}

Is there interest in Coentrao and Benzema Ed? {Ed001's Note - there is definite interest in Benzema but I have heard nothing regarding Coentrao and Liverpool.}

There was some mention a while back of Fucile the Uruguayan left back at Porto. He looked very good in the World Cup and maybe he would be good for Suarez.

Hi Ed.
do you know what the situation regarding Gervinho is? can he see him moving to us?
And also, ive not heard much about the young lad chamberlain for a while, where do you think he'll end up?

Thanks
Stu. {Ed001's Note - he is one of the players we are monitoring but it is not a done deal by any means. As for Chamberlain (I am guessing you mean Southampton's Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain?) he looks likely to end up at United or Arsenal.}

Just read mack daddy o saying his source up north said we're looking at kayal and izaguirre of celtic, sorry to burst your bubble pal but i posted about those two a couple of sundays ago and when i asked ed for his thoughts he replied 'no thoughts at all' so if i was u mack i'd get a new sauce, try hp rather than daddys.

KISS THE BADGE. YNWA {Ed001's Note - we looked at him and made enquiries in the summer, I never heard of any move in January at all.}

Who will walk away with Diego Forlan and Sergio Aguero? Would roy hodgson be willing to sell Peter Odemwingie. Doesn't seem like Roy's kinda striker

03 Mar 2011 21:17:47
I posted that message about low key signing. Was supposed to say no turan not no tits.

Forgot to mention crazy as it sounds that if we do any business for a mid field player expect a departure. . not a small one either. Only if we sign a central mid.

There's a lot of talk about us signing Young. Ed, do you really think this is going to happen?

I mean, surely whatever wages he is on can be matched by Villa at least. And if Spurs and United are interested too, as it seems to be the case, I'm pessimistic that he would sign for us. I mean don't get me wrong, I would love us to sign him, but I can't see it happening. Plus if City get involved, and it is possible, then they would price us out of the market, let's face it.

Also, there is major talk about us selling Reina? I'm sure on skysports not too long ago he had an interview saying he would never leave to another club in England, so which club do you think he would be off to? And, what do you think about Craig Gordon as a possible replacement? Fairly young, Scottish no. 1, good keeper - your thoughts?

Sorry that this is so long, hope you get round to replying,

Jacob. {Ed001's Note - it does seem that Young is signing for us in the summer, more likely than not at this moment in time. I wouldn't touch Gordon though, I have never seen anything special in him at all.}

Ed. ive just sent you message. . red budd. . do you think there is no chance of any of the other's or do you think it will is not likely. . i think it would make massive statement if we got at least 2 or 3 of them players don't you. .
red budd. . {Ed001's Note - where did you send the message? Very little chance, no one can be conclusively ruled out just yet as I have seen over the years how the strangest things can happen. After all how many of us ever believed Owen would end up at United? But they are unlikely signings right now.}

I expect our signing to be fairly low key in the summer partly to keep the spending low and partly because world class players will always go where champs league, trophies or money is. Right now we only have money.
Expect young, marveaux (already done) and a young ish striker. Pepe will be off and be replaced by that Uruguay from lazio.
No tits. No sanchez. No one else.

Ed any chance of us signing alexis sanchez? {Ed001's Note - there is always a chance, but it is very unlikely right now. Though talks with Chelsea obviously aren't going all that well or Udinese wouldn't have gone public.}

30 million is the figure isn't it? Way too much for him let chelsea have him

The left back liverpool are looking at has only been mentioned but the once and that player is beniot assou ekotto with baines going to spurs! also another spurs switch could be hutton or corluka as rumour has it (and a strong one at that) that micah richards will ask for a move to spurs!

Johan Elmander to sign for us in the summer?

03 Mar 2011 19:17:35
Benzema, Adam, Young, M'Vila, Enrique, Marveaux and Payet/ Griezmann will sign, please post this

I agree with this post in the fact that we will sign a left back, 2 midfielders an out and out striker and 3 supportstrikers/ wingers this summer. whether the players named are correct well have to wait and see
- - - - - - - - -
Im about 90% sure that the first four and Marveaux will join. LB im not so sure about but Enrique is a target ive been told along with Baines, Izaguirre. However ive been also told that if we don't find a good enough LB, then we'll stick with Johnson there, and buy a CB to play alongside Agger. Kelly RB.
Another RW/ SS/ LW after is wanted, Griezmann/ Payet/ Eriksen/ Wijnaldum and some others have had background checks

{Ed002's Note - The "Americans" are not looking at "stats" to decide who provides value for money. They have employed Damien Comolli to lead the charge for finding new blood in cahoots with Kenny Dalglsh, at least in the short-term. It will not be stats per se that are presented to the board but a case study on individual players. This will drive the decision process. No players will be bought in at the behest of the owners, but only as a result of a consultative process. If Comolli, as I fear, pushes for more control over transfers (as he has done before) then I expect that this could prove to be problemmatic for Dalglish. Whilst the stats you refer to are meaningful in baseball, the same cannot really be said for football. They may be interesting, but not much more.}.
. . . . . .
Do you not think that comolli is just a puppet for nesv.
Also do you not think that comolli was a way to not let roy spend any money in the transfer window if he had stayed.
Surely comolli is just basically a glorified scout.
Do you know who was the one putting suarez and carrolls names to the board was it kenny, comolli or the board?

LAVERS

{Ed002's Note - Damien Comolli is not a "puppet" for the owners and was not bought in to stop Roy Hodgson spending. He was bought in to provide expertise in the recruitment process - for players and for a new manager. I don't have any detail on the Carroll move but my understanding is that Suarez was a Comolli suggestion that was supported by Kenny Dalglish. Certainly no one person is going to the board saying buy any particular player. That is not how the system is set up to work at Liverpool. I suspect, given Comolli's past interest in players of a "robust" nature, that it may have been him that proposed Carroll in the first instance - but don't quote me on that.}

RE:Why do we need another striker when we have Daniel Pacheco

Well we need a Carrol replacement. Someone with Power and Strength. Maybe Size. Some big player to play upfront. Maybe a Heskey or carlton Cole.

03 Mar 2011 17:12:34
The thing with the Americans is they look at stats, so by doing that you will actually find that young is one of the best wingers in the league.
I personally think he will do a good job so at a reasonable price get him. I'm not saying he's world class but he's more than capable of doing a good job.
And who knows moving to a big club could well be the making of him.

LAVERS

Ed who would you like to see as liverpools next goalkeeper if Reina so happens to leave?

{Ed002's Note - There are plenty of good goalkeepers out there right now. Adler and Neuer are top of the pile. Scott Loach will need to step up at some point and may be worth a thought. If the choice was available, perhaps Akinfeev would be number one on my list.}

03 Mar 2011 17:03:52
Would you honestly rather us spend 15-20mil on Mata and then spend the next 12 months slaggin him of, or spend 25mill on turan and young?

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Personally i think mata would work but its just my opinion. You never mentioned Turan in you earlier post before but i would have him. I'd only have young as backup and really think we should be aiming a bit higher in the players we bring in. Personally i rate adam johnson over young. I'm in agreement with the guy that thinks we need more quality defenders though and it's an area that needs much needed strength.

It had on SSN this morning when i tuned in that Udinese have received a £25M bid from a un-named club for Alexis Sanchez, lets hope its not from us, at the moment the Italian League is poison! Look at our last two buys from Italia, Dossena & Aqualani. Enough said. .

Barry B {Ed001's Note - Sanchez is not like either, he is not overweight like Dossena and he is not an injury-prone weakling like Aqualani. You can't compare them, Sanchez has all the attributes needed to make it in the English league.}

I'll take your word on it Ed but i don't rate the Italian teams or league anymore. For a league that has AC Milan the league leaders by 5 points just says it all really.
For me Sanchez looks like another Ricardo Quaresma and in my opinion the £25M could be spent on a better investment.

Barry B

---------------------------------------------------
this is the first post ive seen that's anti-sanchez, where as i disagree about the players ability, hes a far better player than Quaresma, i agree on the reasoning, the italian league is s**te, if sanchez were to move to an english club whether it be liverpool or any other i think it wud take time for him to adjust to the speed of the prem more than say a buy from the spanish league, but saying that id spend £30m on him because wen he does adjust he'd be outta this world

wud you agree with me ed ?

{Ed002's Note - Sadly that would just make it fantasy football though. Would you have Messi for £35M? The point is that the bid was not from Liverpool.}

I posted on here about 10 days ago asking the editors about the chances of Reina leaving in the summer, to which the response was it was impossible to say. Well it seems that for a while now he has been becoming increasingly unsettled although he's in the Echo sayin life under Kenny is great, he's tempted by 2 of our big rivals, so its seems it was far from impossible to say, and its actually gathering more probable momentum, as for Robinson, why go after him when theres an unhappy better goal keeper sitting on City's bench who'd be brilliant for us,

Dont by the s*n

03 Mar 2011 16:03:52
Ed hearing rumours about that cisse from freiburg personally i think its rubbish , i think liverpool will look at top signings , the likes of benzema or bojan. ed do you have any info on bojan deal? i know youve said that he wants first team assurances but he would play more games here than barcelona i reckon plus he would offer us something different and give us options. apperantly a couple of reports coming out of spain that he is comollis top transfer target , do you have any info at all on this? still only 20 years old he has already made nearly 100 apps for barcelona think he would be a class signing , i think if we move for him it would prob be in our best interests to loan him for the whole of next season with a view of a £15m-£20m fee for him the following season. what you reckon ed? can we pull it off? {Ed001's Note - all that we know we have already shared mate, there is nothing new to add to that as of yet.}

Liverpool s Director of Football Strategy Damien Comolli has made Barcelona striker Bojan Krkic his number one transfer target this summer.

Spanish newspaper AS claim the 20 year-old Spain international would be open to a move to Anfield.

Krkic, who is unhappy with the lack of regular first-team football, is also the target of Serie A side Juventus. Ed, could you rate this please. I think that atleast 1 of the eds thinks we, ll bid for gervinho as our 3rd striker! Love the site, Eds {Ed002's Note - The player is being talked up at present. The issue he has is the number of starts that he is getting. A loan has been suggested, but that would likely involve a commitment to make the player first choice which is something that Liverpool would probably not agree to. As an alternative, the player could be bought by Liverpool; but as I see it the same problem over game time would remain. Juventus and I suspect Tottenham and Wolfsburg will also be keeping a watch on what happens. As for rating the move to liverpool, I reckon it is 16.27% likely to happen.}

Thanx for the enlightenment Ed, seems similar to the benzema scenario. A lot of strikers may not want to come to Liverpool because they may not want to compete with Carroll & Suarez for starting positions. Maybe that makes a bid for gervinho more likely as he can play on the wins as well as striker. Being that Young & Marveaux are very likely to sign, Gervinho would provide competition for the strikers & wingers. Hopefully that would make Young perform better & more consistently knowing that Gervinho wants to prove that he should be starting. I think that if we could get the best out of Young on a consistent basis then he would be a worthy signing. Plus Sterling will be pushing him for that spot also & I think Sterling will make the spot his within 18 months to 2 years. As for Adam he'll put the pressure on Lucas to perform at his best more consistently & Suso is in the same position as Sterling concerning a midfield spot. I notice that Adam & Young aren't in popular demand with some of the Ed's, but I think it's gonna work out just fine under the guidance of Clarke & Kenny

Liverpool to Use Flop to Land £25m Wing Wizard - caughtoffside are saying we are guna offer poulsen(£4m) plus a lot of cash to land him in the summer?

any truth in it ed. . . . {Ed001's Note - I very much doubt anything on there to be honest, I certainly can't see any likelihood of Poulsen fetching 4m.}

Izaguirre, marveaux, young, adam, benzema

Iv heard from a source up north that Liverpool are lining up a £16m double swoop for Celtic pair Biram Kayal and Emilio Izaguirre good signings ed? Also I expect Ashley Young to sign and Bojan on loan would these players improve the team enough?

Mack daddy o {Ed001's Note - they are doing well in Scotland, if Kenny thinks they are good enough then that is enough for me.}

To bad he's most likely going to our rivals. Who would you like more ed, the fantastic world class Ashley Young or the crap Sanchez. {Ed001's Note - Sanchez is a much better player in my opinion. It is not even closse.}

If you didn't notice I was taking the piss. I've got a serious question for anyone, how can we catch up to Chelsea if we sign Young and they sign Sanchez. Surely we'll just be drifting away from Chelsea. {Ed002's Note - I don't think you can judge a side on any one particular player. Liverpool have just spent a very large amount of money on Carroll and he has yet to play - so there will undoubtedly be some good news to com.}

Sky Sports website: Udinese have revealed that they have received a bid of 35million (£29.7million) for star forward Alexis Sanchez. . . . . .
I hope it was Liverpool that made this offer cos this lad is quality and only 22 years old, I think Liverpool will buy at least 4 top quality players in the summer, (I'm not saying Sanchez will be one of them, I'm just saying that if FSG are going to invest then they should be looking at this calibre of player). LB, defensive midfielder/ Playmaker, left winger & right winger.

Hello ed you said liverpool have an interest in both mc's at Wigan is that Mcmanaman , mCarthy or mcarthur as I rate the first two highly? I

{Ed002's Note - A different Ed and not a subject I know about. I would guess it would be McCarthy and McArthur rather than McManaman}

Hey . ed , Freiburgs Papiss Cisse has revealed he would love to move to Liverpool, @ 25 he is now a decent striker, has scored 16 goals already this season. if we go for him , i think we would get him for at least 10m-12m. he will be a much more better option than Ngog. & i would prefer him over Benzema. bcaz Benzema will be too lazy, will demand high wages nd would cost us more. Cisse is a tall strong agile hard worker , whether it with Carrol or Suarez he can perform a decent partnership .so ell Ngog in the summer , caz he is not good enough even to be a squad player. so i think if a player wants to come to liverpool, nd if he is quality nd if the price is right i think we should go for him rather than someone else.
ed, whats your thoughts on Ngog & this Cisse guy joining us .

{Ed002's Note - Cisse will probably go to Wolfsburg or perhaps Fulham. He will not be moving to Liverpool, this is just an agent hyping a player. Ngog may need to move on to help his career progress.}

03 Mar 2011 05:04:13
Ed, do we have interest in marek hamsik? {Ed002's Note - Not that I know of. Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester United seem more likely destinations.}

03 Mar 2011 05:37:22
Ed Marveaux and enrique hav beeen heavilly linked with liverpool wat are the odds they will sign in for us ? {Ed002's Note - It is very likely that Sylvain Marveaux will join, subject to an injury clearing up. I doubt that Enrique is as likely.}

What's the chance of Honda coming to Liverpool in the summer?

I'd say somewhere around 3 or 4. How about you, Ed? {Ed005's Note - If by 3 or 4 you mean out of 10 then I'd say those are the chances.}

02 Mar 2011 23:58:15
Ed, based on some of the figures being splashed out on players nowadays, from what you have seen of marveaux, how much do u think he would be worth if he had a few years left on his rennes contract? i know its hard to say but im interested in your opinion, iv seen a good bit of him myself, decent player, IMO worth about 8-11mill. .

jay b {Ed001's Note - considering United and Chelsea were interested at around the 10m price mark, I would say he would be worth that kind of money.}
