my last post about the possibility of Suarez moving on was not to wind anybody up! I follow football on a global scale and the transfer market is exciting and intriguing. My point is valid and I'm far from the only one who thinks it would be a good time for him to move. I don't doubt he loves Merseyside and the club has supported him but he is in a very strong position to negotiate a move. It's also a possibility that the club would look to sell now, maybe ed002 could shed some light on whether it makes sense for the owners?
like I said I'm not trying to wind you up I come here because it's a busy page and you have some good regulars not to mention ed002 gets involved a lot here.
Those of you that suggested by my logic RVP should move, well he did exactly that in similar circumstances last summer, and my main argument is interest from other clubs the fact he has been terrific this season just adds to his value.
It will be a good opportunity for Suarez to move to another prestigious club and get a huge contract + there has been confirmed interest in the player from Bayern and Juventus. I was simply hoping some of you here may know more about the situation. Chillax guys the summer is a long way off,
Bren,

Where have all the sturridge haters gone?

When you said your not trying to wind up anyone, did your nose grow?

frankyscouse

Here we go again. yawn. .

MR EM

There is no situation on lfc side at least, of course there will be teams after him or who want him but you probably need to consult someone itk about other clubs not lfc, how the heck are we meant to know what juventus and byern are doing, you can probably add PSG and city to that list because the will also be interested if Suarez does request a move, just as they would be for cavani, falco, benzene, rvp, Rooney, need I go on because we could be here all day.

People said the same thing about tevez and city and look how he got them in the top 4 other than Liverpool wich team can suarez go and be a hero. he's already a superstar here and soon to be a legend lol

Just stop being a negative person Bren and concentrate on supporting the team instead of playing fantasy manager. If all you persons can actually read you would have read that he said he would not leave Liverpool even if don't qualify for champions league. He named his Delfina which if you rearrange the letters say Anfield. that's how much he loves our club. Stop trying to sell him off or talk about him leaving. A player that is playing his heart out for the club should not have to worry about fans talking him to leave.
You just can't win as when a players plays bad you want him to leave and when a player is playing superb you want him to leave to capitalise on the money. How about you be more positive and think we might actually start to look like a champions league team that in a few years could challenge for the title again. ,. if we all support the team

Outstanding reply Slowpoke!

Thinly disguised manc post.

I don't understand the logic in this post or why you would post something like this unless you wanted Suarez to leave yourself he has stated he will not leave even if we don't make top4 the main thing is he can see improvement and see the club going forward what more can he say? Have you ever thought that Suarez has found a club that he loves and feels at home with his family maybe it's not all about money and champions league with him.

Why his behaviour is better than ever his performances are world class he has pledged loyalty to the club what possible reason would we want to sell him now? there's no point if we wanted him out last year would have made much more sense given the scandal now he dives less scores goals selling him would be pointless

We can all follow football on a global scale - it is called the World Wide Web. Why not stop the ifs and buts and enjoy the football - win, draw and even lose (the latter being the most difficult).
Shodo 7

Actually, the Delfina thing was already in place before he moved to Liverpool. About 7 months before he moved to Liverpool or something anyway. He didn't even know that it was an anagram of Anfield and he said so in an interview at the start of the season.

I believe his daughter was born before he came here and her name is just a coincidence (albeit an odd coincidence).

I also think the OP admitted in a different thread they were not a supporter, but that doesn't make the supposition any less valid. I don't know whether Suarez will be off in the summer or not, but it has to be admitted that there is at least a chance of it happening.

Those still spouting the tired and rehashed baseless nonsense that Suarez will leave in the summer would do themselves and us all a favour by reading the actual words of Suarez instead of the media spin. He has directly said that even if we don't get a top 4 finish this year he is going to stay and continue this particular project.

In fact, the only way he might leave is if Rodgers is fired and the rebuild starts again.

SpudRed

What do you want from us Bren? This is a forum of (mostly) Liverpool fans. The best thing for the club is to have our star player. Unless your Suarez's agent why come on here and tell us that "this would be a really good time for him to move. " From the perspective of people who support Liverpool and love Suarez a good time is never.

Or becuase you are "fascinated by the transfer market and watch football on a global scale" we should just say, oh, alright, I guess from the global footbal perspective he should play for a team that pays him more. .

Suarez is a red, his daughter is a red, we are reds.

It would mean all of his family would need to learn a totally different language, doesn't he have young kids?

Just heard Suarez to have another child. The happy couple are going to call the baby Leona Crab - what can this mean?

Shodo 7

Really? sell our best players for other teams to benefit were Liverpool not arsenal, and with playing like they have been we will be back up on top soon YNWA

I remember torres stating his "love" for the club and when the big money came in he was off in a heartbeat. I can see suarez heading the same way. is he really going to stay with Liverpool to fight to get into the top 6 or go to bayern who now have 1 of the best managers in the world wit pep and can challenge for CL and league titles. pretty clear that he will be off if the offers come in

Suarez is happy at Liverpool!

Brendan Rodgers top 2 summer targets are Angelo Ogbonna and Stevan Jovetic while he is also on the lookout for Pepe Reina's successor with Asmir Begovic and Fernando Muslera the leading candidates. Andy Carroll, Pepe Reina, Sebastian Coates, Jay Spearing, Danny Wilson, Dani Pacheco and recent signing Oussama Assaidi all look likely to leave in the summer. Liverpool could also sign an experienced holding midfield player as cover for Lucas.

I hope thers some truth in that!
When talking about young AND quality Jovetic and Ogbonna are some of the best talent.
However I doubt we would be able to sign them as 1-They would be expensive and 2- Many top teams would be also after them.

Begovic and Muslera would be good keepers and their fairly young for keepers.
Muslera may help Suarez stay as he is Urugayan too.

F5

Now add a Quality LB to that list of targets and that would be a dream window. Doubt we will get Jovetic though rather we target someone like Carlos Vela or Affelay.

I've seen nothing from Brendan to suggest he will be attempting to buy quality players. Cover for Lucas? I'm pretty sure FSG knew we needed that LAST January, and yet here we are one year on.

If true sounds positive

Jovetic and begovic will not be joining!

Are Guillermo Ochoa and Marco Rojas Free Agents in the summer?, unless they sign new contracts of course.

Eds,,

A few times Seen Sturridge touching his Quads in the game. Is he Injured and how bad?

William Weir {Ed001's Note - going for a scan to assess it. Hopefully just enough to miss out on England.....}

Lol spot on edd ladd

A bit cyncial not wanting to play 4 england isn't it? for the country sturridge and the club personally I love seeing LFC players play for england {Ed001's Note - why? I have no interest in England, just means crap coaches ruining our players and risking them getting injured.}

Crap coaches really? that point isn't even worth my time debating {Ed001's Note - you mean like Stuart Pearce? Who is absolutely shocking. Or perhaps you want to tell me Hodgson is a quality coach? I think we know that isn't true. So don't bother debating, clearly there is no debate to be had.}

International breaks are crap and I Hodgson and Pearce are Terrible tell em Eds.

eds who do you think Liverpool will replace reina with? {Ed002's Note - I think it far to early to say right now but I will say, but will not go into detail, that Caniggia had Santos' Rafael watched on behalf of Liverpool in the summer. There are also a couple of young German goalkeepers that I mentioned before. And perhaps someone closer to home will be of interest?}

03 Feb 2013 19:35:29
Eds. you are the Riddler, a person close to home. sounds like a golf but not a golf. any name for a goalie closer to home? One thing is for sure Reina is not right for Liverpool

Ant {Ed002's Note - There is at least one EPL goalkeeper in Vorm that I would expect to interest Rodgers.}

"Reina isn't right for Liverpool" pepe has been a royal servant to Liverpool he has had many offers to join big clubs and refused, he's a top goalie, yes he makes mistakes time to time, but so does gerrard suarez and many other players, get behind pepe untill he does one day move to a bigger club not wonder who we will replace him with just because he made a mistake tonight.

intitiwetrust

Ed I would use the search function but I can't remember the lads name you mentioned along with Trapp a while ago. the other young up and coming German goalkeeper?

Amz {Ed002's Note - Fortuna Dusseldorf's Fabian Giefer.}

Ed do you know of interest in ter stegen or leno? {Ed002's Note - Not from Liverpool.}

Ed002 you mentioned that Liverpool may look at a keeper closer to home if Reina does move on in the summer. I know that you are regularly subjected to abuse when you share some of your info but are you able to divulge your thoughts?

I believe that Vorm may be a consideration but the only other viable option is Begovic who looks likely to be off to Utd in the summer. Thanks for the info in advance. {Ed002's Note - See previous answers please.}

Just a suggestion that our goalies should not put in "yellow" jersey? I prefer Green or Grey. I know this color things does effect. the result. We can trace what match we loose when GK wear "yellow"

Sorry Ed002 have you mentioned these german keepers by name. I must have missed that. Jimbo {Ed002's Note - If you want one to watch for the future, try Eintracht Frankfurt's Kevin Trapp. Someone who is very knowledgeable in the subject also mentions Fortuna Dusseldorf's Fabian Giefer as being a goalkeeper who we could hear much of in the future.}

03 Feb 2013 18:41:19
Eds and Reds,
Are Liverpool even looking at Christian Benteke from Aston Villa? Been hearing rumours but nothing definitive. {Ed002's Note - Not that I am aware.}

No but they need to be and also keeping one eye on the Chelsea keeper on loan at Atletico {Ed002's Note - I would not expect Courtois to move to Liverpool.}

Eds and Reds,
Do you think Christian Benteke warrants a scout from Liverpool or other big clubs?

03 Feb 2013 18:24:45
Hi Eds, thanks for all your efforts keeping us Liverpool fans in the loop.

My question, Why is Reina constantly being linked with a move? Does he want to leave or does Brendan not rate him? I think we should be looking to keep him, he's a proven performer in the prem, at 31 relatively young for a keeper, unless I'm wrong, I think he's settled with his family, quality experienced keeper, good with his feet quick off his line. He's had a small dip in form, but so did Alonso and look what happened there. If we're looking to get rid I'm not sure what the logic is? Hopefully you can clear this up for me? Many thanks

{Ed002's Note - There is interest in him from Atletico Madrid who will be needing a replacement for Courtois in the summer. I would expect him to leave.}

"He's had a small dip in form". And you are a wee bit delusional.

The problem being that his small dip in form has lasted about 2 years
Pieboy1812

Reina is a top class keeper. anyone who does not think that is a plonker, get behind him rather than wonder who will replace him, who ever replaces him IF he goes he won't be half as good,

intitiwetrust

That supposed two year dip in form has also coincided with an overall decline at Liverpool. Could it be that the more attacking style of football and overall reduction in quality has contributed to making Reina look worse? Until recently he was considered the best keeper in the prem. form is temporary, class is permanent. i'm doubtful as to whether we could find anyone as good if he were to leave.

The loons who wanna sell Pepe need to grow up and learn about football.
Pepe is probably the best keeper we've ever had. But the Yanks wanna cut wages even more. So delusional mugs end up saying "Reina is crap", "suarez is a troublemaker", "Skrtel and Agger need to go" etc etc.

Then you talk rubbish like "yeah Swansea are really good, let's buy Joe Allen and a few more Swans. "

You're an embarrassment. !

All you muppets who keep defending pepe need to wake up and stop slating the supporters. We see it week in week out simple mistakes costing us points. For too many years we've let people away with mistakes because of who they are and what they do for the cause. Do united wrap players up in cotton wool? No they slate them in public to let them know its not acceptable at a club like this. Bye bye pepe time for pastures new

"A small dip in form"? I guess you haven't been watching LFC for a couple of years!

He should have been moved on quite a while back.

Please don't quote that forma nd class phrase and try to sound philosphical, sadly his poor form has lasted 2 years that isn't bad form, that's a fall in class. Pepe isn't good at laying out from the back, he's better at quick distributions and coutner attacks, i'd also say friedel was our best keeper, but we didn't see it, we kept starting david james!

Reina should go whilst we'll get a pretty sum, there a PLENTY of good yound hungry keepers out there we could get for half of pepes price.

04 Feb 2013 17:58:20
Ok 2 all the reina doom mongers 1 question. Who do we buy 2 replace him? Pepe is probably in top 10 keepers in the world let's be honest I for 1 hope he decides 2 finish his career with us

One of the Top ten keepers in the world, for two consecutive seasons he has had the lowest save per shots ratio in the prem - so it is fair to assume he would struggle to get in the top ten in the EPL. Reina has served us well and no one can deny he has been top drawer (past tense) but I think it is time to either move him on or buy another keeper to give him some serious competition for the number 1 jersey. Sentiment has no place in progress - in BR we trust!

03 Feb 2013 16:57:24
Ed002 have Bayern got the cash to buy players like Falcao and Suarez for both 40-50m+?

Plymouth Red. {Ed002's Note - Bayern will be the biggest spenders in the summer with a very, very significant budget set aside for the new manager. }

How have they got such a big budget? has an investor took interest lately or something?

Plymouth Red. {Ed002's Note - Bayern Munich are a very well run club and financially are very healthy. Their turnover is only behind Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester United and they are not needing to service finance or debt to the same extent as many clubs.}

Uli Hoeness said that there were 278 million euros cash waiting for Guardiola

Marc

Apart from Suarez, do you know who else Bayern are targeting this summer Ed? Cheers. {Ed002's Note - There are a number of players that have been discussed - some of which might be achievable and some not. But this is certainly not the forum to bring it up.}

Suarez is staying. They can have Reina after today!

03 Feb 2013 12:41:08
Hi, Eds. Not much of a transfer question, this one is related to work permit. Was wondering if you could explain how it works? and how come it doesn't imply to youths such as suso etc. Thanks!

Ratan. {Ed002's Note - The rules have changed since Suso arrived and now you will not see underage players moving before they are 18 without a parent. The situation with work permits is that a player will be granted one if (a) he has played 75% of games at full international level for two years for a country ranked reasonably high up (top 75), or (b) if an exemption is applied for and granted under the "exceptional talent" provisions. For example, if a case is made to the authorities that a young South American is a demonstrable talent and clearly one for the future, it should be reasonably easy to have an exemption granted. If however, a pretty much run of the mill or average player was being bought and it was clear they are not appreciably better than those which could be found locally, or are being bought because they are cheap, then it will be much more difficult to obtain a work permit. The downside of the system in the UK is that the "bigger" English clubs can cherry pick the decent talent available and can obtain exemptions, and the rest of the players are assumed not to be talented enough for an exemption (as Chelsea or Manchester United etc. don't want them) and therefore obtaining the exemption is much tougher. Some players can obtain work permits through their parents or grand parents being English.}

Surely also as Suso is Spanish he is from an EU country and as such is able to work freely in the UK without a work permit {Ed002's Note - That was asked in respect of youth players moving. Suso arrived at 15 or 16 - that can no longer happen. It is not a WP in his case, but age as I said.}

First- let me say I know you post these kinds of msgs. You want us to see the kind of crap that you deal with many times a day. Eds, please know that all of us are so appreciative of this site, your work, and that it whips us live and breath Liverpool. Don't worry about this silly little person. We got your back eds- and thank you

That was a bit harsh, the OP was only asking about work permits! ;-)

03 Feb 2013 11:19:41
Eds- do we have some sort of partnership with nacional and if we do, what are the parameters?

Thanks in advance for your response {Ed002's Note - It is broadly in respect of "youth development". Numerous clubs have such arrangements and it doesn't given any options to buy players over other clubs. There is, without going in to any detail, a Nacional player that Liverpool were looking at over the summer and still, I understand, maintain an interest in, but Nacional has been talking to clubs from Italy and elsewhere in regards to. So don't expect too much, if anything, to come of the arrangement.}

Is the player damiao ed.

Gaz {Ed002's Note - I think you are confused about some something.}

Just read it again my mistake.

Gaz

Hi eds, kind of on this subject. I was trawling through the internet the other day to find out about 'feeder' clubs but couldn't see anything that would actually tie Liverpool which I would take at as being true. So I was wondering if you could reveal who with your contacts you feel are actual feeder clubs or have reasonably close connections to Liverpool and other notable connections with household name clubs? Thanks in advance, Tom. {Ed002's Note - There are no feeder clubs to Liverpool per se. Some clubs have relationships with others for loans (Royal Antwep with MUFC, Vitesse with Chelsea etc.. but other countries (e.g. Spain) allow the B teams in to the lower leagues so there is less need to loan players out.}

Is the player in question Gonzalo Bueno ed? {Ed002's Note - It is Bueno, but he was simply an example.}

Thought it might have been ed. In your opinion would you say South America is heavily scouted by Liverpool?

Cheers
Jackson8787 {Ed002's Note - "Heavily" is subjective. We have a list of all of the South American players that the club looked at during the early summer and a couple they have shown more recent interest in. They are all youngsters and one or two have already moved on.}

Also Ed. I don't really keep up with brazilian league. But I have heard from a friend that there is a young kid, Ademilson playing for São Paulo who is said to have been looked at by Liverpool and a few more teams. Have you heard anything?

Thanks Again mate
Jackson8787 {Ed002's Note - Ademilson will not be leaving Brazil just yet but as you say there has been interest from a number of European sides.}

IMO if reina goes in the summer he will be replaced by Vorm.

Jimbob

No Valdes.

It's possible, but he has had lots of injury issues this year. We've also been strung with the price of Allen, so may not be keen to do business with the Swans again.

I'd imagine the scouts will be working hard on potential keepers, left backs and centre backs in the coming months.

Papa G

Valdes is going to arsenal I think, so rule him out

intitiwerust

By the time next season starts Vorm will be heading right up to his 30th birthday and while 30 isn't old for a keeper I doubt FSG would sanction what would certainly be an inflated price from Swansea. I believe we should forget about signing anyone else from Swansea. Joe allen hasn't exactly been top value for £15 million has he?

Hi eds I no its not a rumour and let's be honest between now and the summer there will be hundreds but why didn't we go for sisokko? The toon did the same with Ben afra, a player everyone knew was quality but no 1 bid for and they got these players for peanuts! Need an enforcer in the middle this summer as well as the obvious GK, CD, LB etc etc
Daniellambretta {Ed002's Note - There was plenty of interest in Sissoko from other clubs this past January - Monaco, Wolfsburg, Marseille, Juventus, QPR, Aston Villa, Newcastle, AC Milan, Spartak Moscow and Spurs all enquired. As for Ben Arfa, Newcastle took a chance on a very troubled you man but it has worked out well for all - including the player who really did need a change of environment. As for why Liverpool did not push for Sissoko when teh chance was there, I could only speculate that Dalglish did not see in him what Comolli did.}

Dalglish wanted henderson and downing instead

Not being funny pal, but he's played one game for Newcastle. give him a run of 5-10 games and we'll see if he's consistently good then. remember he has been relatively poor In the French league for the last two seasons

Hello to all the mods,

This is just an enquiry as to whether Alonso would be a viable option in the summer and if you are aware of any interest in him.

Cheers,

George. {Ed002's Note - Personally I would doubt it because of his age and the money that Real Madrid would likely want.}

As much as I want him, I don't see him coming back. Any news on Alonso's contract talks Eds? {Ed002's Note - Nothing I am aware of.}

Alonso is only 31!

Again despite how highly I rated Xabi when he played for us he won't be coming back. By the start of next season he will be close to 32 and FSG have repeatedly said they won't sanction what would be a large transfer fee for players that age. Also why would he want to come back?He's settled happily with his family in his home country playing for a top club who will give him Champion's League football next season.

Liverpool should have got Moussa Sissoko to replace Gerrard. Missed out there.

I think he was worth a punt at just 1.8m

Let's see if he can be consistent over the rest of the season before we get the pitch forks and flaming torches out in order to march upon Anfield demanding to know why we didn't sign him. SJB

03 Feb 2013 10:52:55
he is miles better than our welsh xavi.
what a cracker he had yesterday agaisnt chelsea.
2 goals in 2 matches in 2 mill.

Replace Allen not Gerrard.

How many tackles did he make yesterday?

dmedly

ps. None!

He would of never of came to us over newcastle anyway, newcastle have lots of his mates there all ready. Liverpool don't even have 1 french player, its not a hard one is it really to choose!

It's ok we'll end up buying him of Newcastle for about 20mil later on!

Crowman.

Lets judge players on one game instead of a season. Football fans are getting dumber. I assume the guy watched motd and now suddenly can tell everything about him

For those that want to know why we didn't go for him:

1. Shown very patchy form over the past 18 months - absolute brilliance mixed with performances that would make league one players ashamed.

2. He also has a tenancy to drift around the field - fine in a formation where he is one of the theoretically bigger talents but if he's getting the way of Gerrard and Suarez, they wouldn't be happy.

3. His wages vs his experience as pretty high due to his fee being low - he'll work out as expensive over the life of the contract as anyone else like him we'd have brought.

And those are just the publically available reasons - could be all kinds of other closed door issues.

03 Feb 2013 07:32:51
Replacement keepers I'd like to see in a Liverpool shirt when Reina leaves are, Cesar, Stekelenberg or Akinfeev.
What do you think Eds?

Gav the Red {Ed002's Note - I would very much doubt Liverpool will be signing any of these goalkeepers in the summer.}

Your choices are p*s* poor mate.
We need to go for Begovic, Ter Stegen or Vorm, although the latter is somewhat injury prone.

These keepers are too old we need a younger goalkeeper that will be number 1 for a long time. Ter Stegen, Von Trapp, Zeiler, Leno, Adler to name but a few.

Tim Krul anyone?

I say
Begovic
Valdes
Hart
Cesar

03 Feb 2013 13:32:47
Ed always wondered, akinfeev's always been a highly rated gk! Is it not in his interest to move from cska or has there been a lack of interest in him?

KingMiz {Ed002's Note - I am not so sure why you think it would be in his interest to leave Moscow, but there has been interest in him in the past and there is indeed interest in him right now - not from Liverpool.}

Ter Stegen should be no. 1 priority signing to replace Reina if he leaves in the summer.

Hart? Oh yeah City will sell him won't they you dimwit? I rather like like the idea of us having a keeper named Von Trapp. The Kop would be alive with sound of music when he signed.

The Plank

My bad ed, may not have been clear I was trying to say does akinfeev not want to leave or is there no interest in him? You answered anyway so cheers.

KingMiz

I would rather us have Ter Stegen or Ron Robert - Zieler, and perhaps bring Kapinos in to loan him out somewhere in Europe

You're a manc or a madman

03 Feb 2013 07:26:25
Eds, any interest in Mertens. has scored 31 goals in 51 matches for PSV and is also among the top in assist this season. Would be a class signing {Ed002's Note - I don't see Mertens moving to Liverpool in the summer. If he moves next summer I suspect it may well be to Bayern Munich, subject to the new manager wanting him, although there remains serious interest from Lazio and a little interest from Barcelona.}

Mertens would be perfect for us, he is a goal scoring winger and would cost a little over £10m, I don't see him moving to Bayern Munich as they already have Ribery & Robben also have recently brought Shaquiri

BigD

03 Feb 2013 01:17:00
Not wanting to do the whole match of the day fever thing; I know we scouted sissoko for a long time and allegedly told his agent we saw him as gerrards long term successor, and ideas as to why we never followed it up? Went at a good price and can play a few different roles. Thanks in advance.
Dazza {Ed002's Note - I can only assume Dalglish was not interested in the player.}

One good game does not make a great Player. Just look at Cisse.

02 Feb 2013 23:49:35
ed I no you don't no who we are after to replace reina but do you no what is happening with begovic from stoke because they got butland thanks {Ed002's Note - Begovic will move in the summer - I would think Manchester United a quite possible destination.}

|'d be happy with Michel Vorm.

Why would Utd want Begovic? De Gea being replaced you think lad? {Ed002's Note - I think that Manchester United will definately be looking for a goalkeeper this summer - as will Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Liverpool and no doubt other high profile sides.}

I thought Begavic to United in the summer was a done deal. That is why Stoke signed Butland.
CR {Ed002's Note - There is no "done deal" but there is a good chance it will happen.}

We will have De Gea then
