aqualani and cole doing well for there respected clubs stupid mistake by kk getting rid of players of that quality they would have done better than some of the crap i've seen this season questions need asking Whats your thoughts Ed? {Ed002's Note - Aquilani was going whoever the manager is. Liverpool could recall Cole at the end of the season rather than sell him. ALthough there is now confirmed interest in him and perhaps he will have no interest in returning.}

Neither of them cut it here, does anyone seem to remember that? The french league and the Italian league is a lot different. Aquilani comes on as a sub most of the time anyway, especially with seedorf keeping him out of the team at 36, How good actually is he? Begs the question. If you want to moan at someone as people seem to keep doing, moan at benitez for selling alonso. As for Cole he's scored 8 goals and has 5 assists this season in all contests hardly taking the french league by storm. Cisse was the top goalscorer there before he came to us, then he couldnt even put it in the net

Hi Eds,great site and i appreciate your work.
Tell me how much chance do we have to sign:

1.Matiás Suárez.
2.Dries Mertens.
3.Alváro Dominguez.
4.Yann M'vila.
5.Luuk De Jong.
6.Gaston Ramirez.
7.Junior Hoillet.[on a free].

We need atleast 7 new signings to become a Title contender.
Y.N.W.A {Ed002's Note - There will not be such significant changes - sorry. De Jong is certainly prossible and perhaps Suarez as well. Mertens perhaps a slim chance, the same with Ramirez and Dominguez. The others are less likely.}

You won't challenge for 5th never mind title with your over priced average players.

So basically we know have another set of owners unwilling to challenge for honours again? Because we could be stuck in mid-table for a long time unless our squad is seriously improved

Eds surely when a change in management happens the transfer targets will change too? won't they? {Ed001's Note - that is why Comolli was brought in, to ensure things wouldn't change too much if the manager does.}

So we won't see any changes in the transfer policy as long as comolli is DOF at Liverpool eds?
Do you think he could leave/ get sacked at the end of the season eds? {Ed001's Note - no, I expect he will be given more time yet.}

J.vargas - 12m [lb, lwb, lm, lwf, cm, holding mid]
g.ramirez - 12m [AM, RM]
m.suarez - 16-20m [ST, SS, WFR/L]

442
Riena
Kelly, Skrtel, Agger, Enrique
G.Ramirez, Gerrard, Lucas, Vargas
L.Suarez, M.Suarez

or.....4312

========_Riena=========
_Kelly=_Skrtel=_Agger=_Enrique
_Gerrard=_Lucas=_Vargas=
======_G.Ramirez=======
==_L.Suarez==_M.Suarez===

the second formation of 4312 is a stronger one as it gives you a solid defense with an amazing offense of gerrard and vargas on the flanks g.ramirez through the middle which leaves the two suarez's to work of the space created in the middle and do what ever they want.

you have pace by kelly and enrique at the back, vargas and gaston in the middle and up front mario

with the creativity of Luis, the awareness of Lucas and the drive of both gerrard and vargas. not to forget both of the latter are long rangers.

sell. johnson, kuyt, cole get about 15-20m might have change for either another CM, CB, keeper or winger.

SUB:gulacsi, coates, flanagan, adam, henderson, downing, carroll

bellamy, joao teixiera, shelvey, sterling also as sub options

toni silva, sama, ngoo, robinson out on loan

Before i start i am LFC 4eVa! the last post is right on the money at least on paper! oh wait it sounds like last summer? anyone remember? we bought henderson and adam because of their passing stats didnt we? it didnt matter that they hardly influenced matches they just had good numbers lol. lets spend big at least 100m pounds on guys like Cavani. We arent that far away, we have beatenm all of the top teams and shown we can defend we just cant score. Lets support our guys in FA cup semi and hopefully get another trophy! we have euro football next year no matter where we end up in the league so lets blood youngsters like sterling and coady.

Cavani to turn down Real and go to Liverpool...sure that could happen, why not?!?

Gav

Hi Eds

Ia there any interest in Renato Augusto and Toni Kroos from Bay.Leverkusen

If not who else has been interested and for how long

Mega Melwood {Ed001's Note - no idea who is interested in them sorry, but I am not aware of any from us.}

For starters Kroos is Bayern Munich and no there isn't any interest. As for Augusto, he was looked at before according to Ed002 but he doesn't look back to his best after returning from a serious knee injury. Good players though.
The Gooch {Ed002's Note - Liverpool have been flirting with Renato Augusto since the January 2009 window. He can play as a winger or attacking midfield player. I understand that he is the German based player the club were considering before his operation in October, and it is likely that Leverkusen will listen to offers in the summer.}

03 Apr 2012 19:34:59
Hey Eds, have we any interest in Eduardo Vargas? {Ed001's Note - the Chilean youngster that joined Napoli in January? Unfortunately no, even though he was one I was really hoping we would move for.}

03 Apr 2012 19:14:46
Hey Eds,

What is the liklihood of Carroll being sold in the Summer?

Thanks

Ronno {Ed002's Note - See earlier answers.}

Very good! - Have you got a spare few quid? ;-)
5uarezTimes

Ed who would you guess is most likely to be sold carrol or Suarez?

Thanks {Ed002's Note - I have no interest in guessing but could certainly see both leave.}

03 Apr 2012 19:10:33
Hi eds ,during the last transfer window rumour was L F C had an interest in Luc Castaignos ,is there any interest now ? cheers ed {Ed002's Note - There was an interest in taking Castaignos on loan. I doubt that option will exist in the summer, but you never know.}

03 Apr 2012 19:08:31
hi eds, quick question about damiao (spelling) the brizilian, i was jut wondering if he could be a possible target for LFC, hes young and shows a lot of potential, all round looks like a great player, iv'e seen rumors between him and tottenham having links, do you think he could be a possible target for LFC, if so would there be any chance of a signature? cheers. {Ed002's Note - Leandro Damiao remains of interest to several clubs including Spurs, PSG, Roma, Sporting Lisbon, Inter Milan and Juventus. Lyon, Arsenal and Barcelona seem to have dropped any interest they had in the player. January 2013 may be a more likely time to move than the summer although with bids from Spurs and Roma on the table, PSG or Juventus may force a summer move - and these remain the most likely destinations right now.}

Did brilliantly spelling Damiao. Not so well with Brizilian.

03 Apr 2012 19:08:16
Hey Eds,
Any chance of Adam Maher, looks to have some great potential. {Ed002's Note - Seems most unlikely in the short term.}

03 Apr 2012 18:40:12
Mauricio Isla for Glen Johnson.

Kevin Strootman for Jay Spearing.

Gaston Ramirez for Maxi.

Luuk de Jong for Kuyt.

Junior Hoilett on a free or Mertens and possibly Giroud to be our other main striker target if Carroll leaves.

Realistic targets I feel who wouldn't break the bank. All young and improving players who would improve us the world of good. I would like to see five come in, six would prob be pushing it. Carragher is a an LFC legend but time has caught up with him, I don't expect him to see much playing time next season. Coates has to be pushed more. Also Henderson if he stands any chance must be played in a central role. I could see Downing and Adam becoming squad players although, Adam will improve with Lucas beside him. Despite this poor run we are on and the way the season is fizzling out I already can't wait for the transfer window and we also might go into the Summer as double cup winners. Things can only go up.
The Gooch.

But the truth is most of them players will have bigger and better deals coming to them... at least that what i fear.

We have mist Johnson been terrible down the right,name 1 better right that would come to Liverpool?not a player we would like a player who would come to Liverpool.
Kp

Isla and Sime Vrsalijko

Other than Isla for Johnson, this is the most sense I have seen on here for a while. I would however keep Spearing as a squad player.

Spearing as a squad player? You have to be kidding, I would rather play Gerrard as a defensive mid, Henderson or shelvey attacking or even play coast than play spearing again. He does well in 50/50 situations but he doesnt protect the back four.

I hope for strootman, ramirez and mertens all are very good players but we could face opposition from big clubs (bayern munich, man united and napoli)

Except strootman for spearing and giroud i will be very very happy with the transfers if they went through. I would love to see strootman for Adam as I fell he is very very slow for our team. And my dream will be to have soldado as our marque signing.

03 Apr 2012 18:28:22
Ed is there any interest in willian from lfc? {Ed002's Note - He has been looked at in the past but everyone who has enquired has been turned off by the asking price. However, he could move this summer.}

03 Apr 2012 17:45:15
i think lfc's problems could be solved with these players;

1) Luuk De Jong-FC Twente

2) Jeremy Menez-PSG

3) Yann M'vila-Rennes

4) Mats Hummels-Borussia Dortmund

Do you think lfc could get any of these players?

You really think are problems are as shallow as 4 players... we are an absolute wreck right now.

Luuk De Jong is the only one i could see coming here.

Funny thing you say that buddy i was just reading a magazine and itt said liverpools problems could all be solved with them exact signings.

Yeah a cb is needed for when agger is injured which is all of the time and hummels is one of the best in europe. m'vila would add to almost any team in the world. not seen alot of menez so cant comment. luuk de jong is the only realistic target here but and i do think he is an upgrade on carroll
derryred

De Jong yes, the rest sadly no.

Definitelt read this in match magazine..

Maybe that was the idea, to ask the opinion of fellow Reds on that article.

This was in match magazine. however i would also be happy with these players, altough i can't see any of them happening

Hi eds, would loaning Carroll out to get some form next season be a possibility? We'd need to bring in two strikers in the summer, but i think it's a very good idea. He won't get better sitting on the bench, that's for sure. He has a lot of potential in his locker and has shown glimpses of excellence in his short LFC career so far. I want us to keep a hold of him, exhaust every option until he returns to the player he once was for the Toon.

Sikander {Ed002's Note - No. A sale is way more likely.}

Another "fan" who believes too much that is written. Or listens to what is churned out.
Look with your own eyes. Andy Carroll has never show anything to suggest he's got any ability.
poor poor footballer.
Too many think he'll turn into a player.
He won't.

Hope ED is correct my fear is no one will want him even for say 7m

There's some rubbish spoken about Carroll.In the right system Carroll will be effective the problem is that he doesn't fit in here.My bet is someone like Sunderland will pay £15M for him.

To the first commenter, bet you said the exact same about Lucas.
We haven't played to Carroll's strengths, at all.

Thats stuppidity..carroll was never and will never be a top player...though we cant sell him..common whos gonna buy him?? u say we sell him for 10 mill and let the owners eat the losses....we need to make him click to sell him...he has to play next season...not to be clicked for raising his resale value for atleast 15-20 mill..still a big loss

I don't like Carroll's Liverpool career so far, as little do I like the fact that we lost a massive amount of money on bying him.
Yet I must agree with the original poster to some degree. Apart from diving on a stupid occasion, where not diving had given him a 99% chance of scoring, against the toon, I actually think Carroll was one of our better players sunday. He moved, he used his strength, he jumped etc. If he could play like that every week - and not dive or behave like a little girl when substituted, he would score more goals.
I say keep him and see what happens next year. The loss is a fact. We might as well stick with him.

Not wishing anyone any ill, but isn't it fair to assume that as long as there is uncertainty surrounding the managerial position every possible transfer rumour becomes pretty much useless. I don't think there is anyone who knows for certain who will be our manager next year. So names like De Jong, Isla, Phillips and any other 'likely' to join no longer make sense. If a new manager comes in, he'll want to decide who comes in and who goes out. I would love to know how the eds see it, but right now any speculation just doesn't make sense to me.

Canadian Fan

Commolli handles most of the transfer business if what I heard is true, he gave Kenny a list of which to pick the players he wanted off it. This limits the managers say in transfers in a big way because even though they make the final decision on who to sign it is limited to only a small selection of players (and then the manager gets all of the blame when the signings dont work out).

I would like to hear the eds views on this and on D.Commolli as what I have heard is he is real s***. Ask spurs fans.

Thanks eds

RAH, YNWA {Ed002's Note - The Ed's view is that it is rubbish. Sorry.}

I don't see any uncertainty surrounding the managers position. Dalglish is the manager and the best man for the job. The only uncertainty is created by certain elements who want success yesterday and don't understand that it has to be earned and that takes time.

Dalglish wont be the manager he is a legend but not the right man to lead LFC. I will be happy with him being director of fooftball or anything else. Commoli wont be here too. so I fell the first change will be commoli gone and then KD to get a different position in LFC.If these changes are not made then there will be another year full of frustration. About success to be earned .... they were given their chance and with loads of money all they got were overrated and overpaid british players who cant perform not a single one of them.
change is required if you think it doesn't then we should have left hodgson in charge at least he wont have paid 35 mil for carroll he might have paid 10mil for zamora.

I like how people think that money buys you success overnight. People want us to win the league straight away. Yes I want the same but i'm also realistic in understanding some things take time. Carroll will come good if he gets a run. Suarez will start to get goals again ( i think the race thing affected him a bit ) and the other lads will come good. I think Adam is the only one i'm not convinced of. But Lucas will be back next season and will slot back in. Lets judge Dalglish in another season not end of this one. I even heard people asking for Mourinho, well what if he comes in and doesn't win the league in his first year ? Then you'll want Guardiola etc etc People forget that we have played good football in most games this year and been unlucky to come away with a draw. If we had won 5 more games than we have then we wouldn't be in such a bad position in the league. We not that far away from CL so maybe next year we will get there with KK. Have some patience

Anyone else like to see Stevie G play on the right. He hasn't got the discipline for the central midfield role. Rafa knew and I am sure Kenny knows it as well.

Put him on the right and give Jonjo or Jordan a go in the middle.

Finally lets buy someone intimadating in the Summer for the middle of the park. All our cm players are quite lightweight. Sissoko sounds the business.

One of the best comments I've heard for a while, it's a shame you didn't sign off.

Ozone

Great post. However, for me Moussa Sissoko would not be that intimidating figure in the middle. People on this forum have a wrong perception of Sissoko I feel. He isn't going to be a tough tackling holding mid, it's not his game he thrives in advanced positions and has actually not been doing that well for Toulouse this season. I think Kevin Strootman from PSV could be our man. Apparently the Spam are after him now too.
The Gooch

It wouldnt be a bad idea putting gerrard on the right, but we need a better and maybe more experienced player to take his place in the center, shelvey and henderson wouldnt do a good enough job in my opinion.

At last a comment i agree with. I feel that with an attacking winger on the left, Stevie would give us great balance on the right and a real goalscoring threat. Don't forget he had his best goals return when Rafa stuck him on the right.

Still feel the central midfielders we've got are good enough. Most people seem to forget that we've gone the whole season without our player of the season in Lucas.

You are right.
I had never thought of it till Benitez talked to a media guy last week.

He mentioned about Gerrard being better at right or as a second striker.

We have been overrun in the midfield since the Man City match at Anfield (Carling Cup) except in a couple of matches. Even Wigan passed the ball around us at Anfield...

Means our grip in the midfield isnt as good when Gerrard plays the CM role.....

LiverBird

No offence but stevie would never stay out on the right he wants to be in the middle involved in everything and against decent teams would leave the right back exposed

His best season was on the right. I know it most likely wont happen but tiote would be a good one in midfield, just it depends where lucas will slot in.

What makes a liverpool player. Alot of people have been saying he is not a liverpool player. What do you think

Read the book 'Secret Diary of a Liverpool Scout'

Give us a clue who you're talking about.

When u see puyol xavi messi iniesta valdes playing for Barca u can see their passion and love for their club. They strive to give everything on and off the pitch for their club. It's not their playing style or the mastery they show it's their love for the club. Like Carra and Stevie have. These guys deserve tobe represent their respective clubs coz of their work ethic and passion to do their best. Which is lacking in all the new buys we have..
Musicnation

Well from Benitez players I can single out Kuyt, Dossena, El Zhar, N' Gog, Insua, Riera as not Liverpool class players.
From then on I can single out most of our buys as not Liverpool class players except Suarez and Enrique.
Agger, Skrtel are definitely Liverpool class players. Lucas seems to be getting there but is not entirely proven yet. Liverpool class players means first and foremost QUALITY. We seem to be forgetting this and the reason is we expect loyalty. Forget loyalty, loyalty comes with trophies. If a player does not get trophies he will eventually leave. And trophies come with QUALITY, not with players that play for the shirt but have no quality. Perfect example is Kuyt. If we had a quality player on the right and one on the left 2008 would have been our year. If Benitez was given the money for Alves we would not have been talking about 20+ more years now.

03 Apr 2012 16:09:03
TBH our problems started when Lucas got injured, we was flying up until then. Also I think we play better without both Gerrard and Carragher in the team. Also Gerrard not the player he was a few seasons ago, we need to find his replacement? Oh wait we have it Shelvey. Put him on and SG on the bench, along with Carragher. Put Coates in Jamie's place alternating between him and Agger.

Play Suarez just behind AC.

Lee73

Although Gerrard isn't as good as he used to be, when he's in form I still think he'd get into almost ANY squad. He really is a world class player on his day, but I'd still have him any day because he is pretty consistent.

I agree with playing Coates ahead of Carragher, but Shelvey ahead of Gerrard? I'm a big fan of Shelvey but they're big boots to fill. I've heard Shelvey is Gerrard replacement over a longer period, but at the moment Gerrard can be immense in midfield. It'd be a major mistake to drop him to the bench.

Thanks, Ell.

Gerrard doesn't go on the attack anymore, except that game against Everton. I understand that because Dalglish may ask him to help cover the back four, so he plays a bit deeper. What I don't understand is that if Gerrard is playing deep what Spearing is doing on the pitch as well? Surely Gerrard and Shelvey in middle, Downing left, Kuyt right and Suarez behind Carroll up front is a good traditional 442 and makes the most sense too.

I don't think shelvey is better than gerrard this moment, he still has a lot to learn

Now I agree that loosing Lucas hurt us his form was very impressive and I will also agree that Stevie G isn't the player he was a few years ago I think mostly due to injuries. But that being said Shelvey is not ready to take his spot.

Joe THunder

The Lucas injury theory is nonsense, his goal record is atrocious so he would In way would have rectified that. Besides our dyer scoring form was in full flow before his injury.

Gerrard's played fine this season. He hasn't got as many goals or assists as in seasons past because he's having to play deeper because Lucas is injured and Adam isn't up to scratch.

Surely Shelvey will be in a better position to learn from Gerrard if he can watch him play, or play on the pitch with him. I know Gerrard's halcyon days are behind him, but as good as Shelvey will be, he isn't better than Stevie yet.

The Lucas theory is not nonsense; we were a team who drew games until he was injured, now we just lose them. Can't wait for him to return.

Would be happy to see Shelvey and Henderson given a chance in midfield.

Gerrard needs to play right, his delivery from the right would prove once and for all if Carroll is worth sticking with.

He's a defensive midfielder his scoring record isn't important what matters is that he was one of our best players last year and we've struggled without him this year especially with defenders like Agger and Johnson injured as well

I don't get this whole Lucas stuff, yes he's improved slightly, but he's still a barely average player, if he went up sale do you think any half decent side would be interested?
Would he worth anything more than 5 million...
It just shows you how poor Liverpool football has become, he hasn't improved a huge amount, the Liverpool player standard has decreased so he looks better, its quite sad to think, do you ever look at a really small club, that once were giants and wonder how can a huge club become that, well its happening right before our eyes
Jlk

Lucas, was brilliant last year. Barely average? thank f*** you arent manager. Lucas has been better then gerrard for this season and the last albeit the long term injury affecting Gerrards form.

I don't think fsg are not entirely blameless in all this either tbh. I mean, their transfer policy is to buy players with resale value... Wtf kind of policy is that in the football world?? What are we now a f'ing corner shop?!
Our transfer policy should primeraly of been in the summer: will these players get us into the top 4; this summer should of been about mounting a title challenge. A credible vision really isn't all that difficult when it comes to progress. The difficulty lies in competing financially with city, united an arsenal without self inflicted harm ie buying players to sell in the future!

Peter

Where did they say that about resale value? and if they did so you this Downing has a great resale value even if he did cost somewhere around 10m?

Totally agree. what resale value does carrol and downing have now? it's about signing good players who will make the team better. like Harry is doing at Spurs - sell crouch bring in Adibeyor. keep moving things along! bring back Rafa please

We got the players that would come to us for the money we were willing to pay them, it really is as simple as that. Can you honestly say that FSG's transfer policy is about resale value when £35mil was payed for Carroll and £20mil for a 27 year old Downing? How was that going to work? JimK

I dont recall that being exactly what they said and i think blaming the owners is rediculous when you look at where we are now compared to 18 months ago in that respect. They said they wouldnt be buying players with no re-sale vale, players of a good age that can gorw into world class players. Exactly the policy a club like us should have. As much as i hate to say it we need to get used to this for a couple of years, it will take time and tons of belief from our point of view.

Only get a resale value when I player actually plays well an lfc ain't can't buy mid table players ie Adam for 8 m win the league two years later he sells for 15 20 mil no chance I'd just show him the door now I'll pack his bags if he wants not a problem

Couldn't agree more Peter, this Yankee doodle resale business model is nothing but eye wash in terms of football. All this jibber about statistics and resale value has lumbered us with an unbalanced team. It's a joke, we were unable to acquire the right profile of player due to this. We needed a right winger but there wasn't one out there who fulfilled the criteria so we bought another central midfielder in Henderson. I will never be comfortable with American owners.

Ozone

Are you having a laugh? Can't you remember the crap we were in when hicks and gillete were in control and henry fought tooth and nail to get control of the club and to restore pride. Fsg gave kenny and commoli a massive war chest that they p...ed up the wall. Henry and Fsg have proven their worth and deserve respect so remember that.

Neilp

OP makes some sense.
NESV are in profit from the transfers.
Sure most of the ignorants will say "ahh but it was a net transfer spend".

Answer- yes it was a net transfer fees spend but that was financed by a drastic wage bill reduction ie selling good players and buying cheaper, lower quality replacements.
Yet at the same time, ticket prices and commercial income goes up.

I dont trust NESV, and neither should anyone else. They're continuing what G&H did. Just in a sneakier way that most of u havent rumbled yet..!
YNWA {Ed002's Note - Nonsense. You are forgetting the wages still being paid for Aquilani, Cole, Poulsen. You are forgetting the multi-million pound pay offs to remove Degen, El Zhar and the like from the club. Are you taking account of agent fees and VAT? I doubt it. The club have supportive and responsible owners - count yourselves lucky.}

Haha neilp just made me howl. I think he actually thinks fsg bought us out of the goodness of their hearts... What a romantic picture u paint. The fact is they bought the club for a steal and invested money for transfers bringing their outlay to under £400m... Considering united were offered £1.8bn I think they done very well for themselves

Peter

Totally agree ed002 we should count ourselves extremely lucky that we have such supportive owners.

Neilp

Supportive owners of what? To clean up the team from dead wood? A supportive owner does not go and spend 35 mil on a donkey just to prove he has deep pocket. A supportive owner saves that money to spend it on a better time and better player(S)(i.e Newcastle owner). Their mistakes are that they expect from "midtable team players" to lift us up. Forget the past. The past was different. Now you need to buy top players to get back to the game. At least Wenger(who NESV are trying to emulate) was always buying young TOP players. Where do you see their support Ed and that we should be lucky? Because they paid Poulsen's wages? I think they got the club pretty cheap so they should pay something on top. After all they didn't buy some team from the 4th division! Apart from the money they used for Suarez the rest is thrown down the toilet. You want also time to build the team properly? Ok wait for some years when these owners will also dump you and the max position you will get is probably 4th place. I really want to throw up thinking we gave 70mil on Downing, Henderson and Carroll. Disgusting usage of money.

Seriously you people who question henry and Fsg need to take a hard look in the mirror. They saved the club and gave the investment to buy quality players. How on earth can you criticise them? Seriously get real.

Quality players? Point them out please. And yes they saved the club just as anyone else could have by getting the club on the cheap. Nice try.

I can't believe someone has seriously compared our owners with the owner of newcastle. I'm afraid it would be idiotic just to throw money at something without any plan or strategy just to appease such fans. In the real world you need to make money to then invest it. Mistakes have been made, they will be rectified and life will go on. sbs3em

There is more than a little merit to this argument. The reason Carroll and Henderson were bought was on the basis of Sabremetrics. But the risk you take with younger players is much higher in the short run. Plus, because selling clubs knew that was our policy, they could hold out for that little bit more money, knowing that buying young was an inflexible policy. If you want instant results, you need more experienced, proven players. You can't spend on young players (especially strikers!) and then demand instant results. Sorry FSG it doesn't work like that in football (I doubt it works especially well in baseball either, to be honest.) {Ed002's Note - Rubbish - Sabremetrics were not used to buy any players for Liverpool. The system is only relevant and designed for baseball.}

I think it's ridiculous to turn this into a row about whether we have good owners or not. To me, they've been good in an overall sense since they came in. They've secured the club's future, they've (so far) backed the manager and they've been prepared to spend. However it's a matter of record that they have a particular spending policy aimed at buying young and selling high. This policy works if your young players hit the ground running. But there is a higher risk because young players are usually inconsistent (eg Brian Clough's Forest teams of the late 80s) and have a more brittle level of confidence. The level of risk increases the higher the transfer fee.
People will doubtless come on here and repeat the mantra that Downing has been a flop (in order to say that all our signings, young and not so young, have been flops). Any time I've seen him he's actually done reasonably well. He seems to keep hitting the post, which indicates bad luck to me rather than poor form.

Personally I suspect NESV's pr people are a little more active than of us have thought.
It reminds of the time when comedians were saying "Give Tom and George a break". Turned out the IP addies traced back to their pr company in London.

And do the research people. With the sale of Mereiles, the net transfer fee+ wages change since takeover is PROFIT not spend.
Strange seeing as they love telling us what great commercial deals they've got "us".
Sad times ahead.. {Ed001's Note - the net is not profit, that does not take into account paying to get the dross off the books. It is pretty much break even.}

Whats all this "NESV saved the club" nonsense. They bought it to profit and use the fans money. They couldnt care less about whether we win anything.They dont like Liverpool, they dont undersyand Liverpool. "Its just a business".

Every successful club has to invest every year to succeed. The truth is, we are a selling club. Watch them try and unsettle Pepe and Luis for some £££££££ in the Summer. Cue the "no-one's bigger than the club" rubbish.

ed do you think Liverpool might try and sign villa this summer as balague has said that he could be tempted by a move to an english club CHEERS! {Ed001's Note - no.}

Nah, Randy Lerner bought it he can keep it.

Too old now shame tho

Eds - what are the odds of us snapping up Berbatov on a free? He'd hardly be first team, but in terms of a Bellamy-esque signing, could Dalglish be interested? {Ed002's Note - Try the search function.}

Well he wouldnt be free....so I'd say 0%

Gav

I Don't understand people asking about berbatov? Why exactly would he come to Liverpool? The guy plays for Man Utd for god sake. How many players do you know that have moved from man u to Liverpool in the past. Not happening. End of story.

It'll never happen, but he'd walk into our team

He is not available on a free.

Eds, have AS Roma declared interest in Luis Suarez?

AG {Ed002's Note - I don't know that there is anything more than speculation based on the involvement of DiBenedetto. The only clubs who are showing confirmed interest remain Palermo, Juventus and PSG.}

Eds have we ever considered looking at , Camilo Zuniga of Napoli or Victor Ibarbo of Cagliari ? Both seem underrated players to me ,

Thanks {Ed002's Note - Not that I am aware.}

Eds do you have any knowledge of how far Commoli and KK used stats to help choose their signings? I ask as I seem to remember the press reporting that Downing and Adam were near the top of the assists charts last season and they fulfilled Fenway's criteria.

I would also like to make the point that British players seem to buckle under pressure and their condidence is much more volatile than their foreign counterparts. Perhaps the weight of being at Liverpool is a burden English players can't cope with.

Thoughts welcome.

Long live the King {Ed002's Note - Statistics provide anecdotal information only for most clubs and I would doubt Dalglish has much interest in them.}

Would any player relish the prospect of assisting a one dimensional static centre forward. ie it very much depends on who your playing the ball into? Play the ball into a really good centre forward and you will end up with loads of assists. Downing for example was playing the ball into Bent: who knows where the net is.

Not sure english players see lfc as a weight they cannot burden anymore

Doesn't seem to bother the Utd British players tbh

I remember reading Steve Clarke saying that he, Kenny and Steve Kean are "old school" and like to make signings purely by watching them

Damien Comolli then brings out the statistics and if they match what Kenny and co feel then that is a player theyll go after.

AZ

Kenny uses stats, he referred to them in more than one interview , are stats the be all and end all for him I dont know but doubt it ..

What does Commoli actually do to warrant his salary? {Ed002's Note - This was answered yesterday.}

Adam and Downing were big fish in smalll ponds. It has got nothing to do with their nationality - they are average and they did not show much ability to tackle the pressure to play in Anfield. Adam is slow and was more productive when Lucas was around, as he did not have to run back. We required him to stay close to the front three which he could not often do. I am sure many of us would agree that we needed a quality DM to replace Lucas in January.
One of the reasons for our lack of goals is we do not get too many players into the box. In the last match Shelvy was furious, as Carroll was nowhere around where he should be.
We all saw how Kenny galvanised the players last year and marshalled the limited resources he had. If it was his success, then not being able to get better results with supposedly improved squad this year would also go down as his failure. Nevertheless, DC cannot avoid his responsibility either.

How do you solve a problem like Carroll?

Our playing style is not suited to him
His football brain is lacking (positioning terrible)

Yet he is young and has potential...

Should we leave him on the bench and use him as a impact player and write off much of his value.

Or build a team around him?

I see no other alternatives and personally in this culture of short term success we should sell him off and stick to pass and move.

English players feel more pressure. They will be more in touch with the media, fans, family, friends, mood of the club, as well as standards expected and history. They wont feel they will be able to 'run away' if it all goes pear shaped and are less likely to be money motivated. These differences have good and bad implications. At the moment a few more mercenaries at the club might be a good thing. Kenny gambled on the positive aspects of buying mostly British and its currently back firing. Lets hope he can get the confidence back up quick so we can see the positive side again.

So disappointed as to where we are now. The Players have really let us down. If they can't cope don't take the money!

English players lack the guts to play abroad in the main. They have no willing to learn languages and to adapt to a new lifestyle. There are always exceptions but on the whole English players are far more spoilt than their foreign counterparts.

I remember them saying in the summer that Henderson, Adam and Downing were amongst the top performers in chances created for last season.

The recruitment policy hasn't worked. I genuinely don't know what the answer is as we were all pleased with Adam Downing etc when they joined. No doubt if we sign sneider he would forget how to play and be a disaster!
why Mascherano, Alonso were allowed to leave. even sissoko was better than what we have now. Commoli and his stats - here's one Relegation! just aswell we are above the 40 mark!

Completely agree about the british players not having the same mentality as foreigners. it works at united because they're constantly winning games, and the brits get confidence. but coming into a team with volatile results and more passionate fans is more difficult. can anyone see adam doing what lucas did and proving everyone wrong?

I'd say that stats are a little more than anecdotal. You're more likely to buy a striker who scores 30 goals a season than if you dont know how many goals he scores.

Football is played on grass and not in stat book!

Bob Paisley didn't need a stat book he had a brain

Now that Robben is agreeing a new contract with Bayern I hope we step up our interest in Mertens of PSV. It looked like Bayern had him but as Ed002 said that was to replace Robben. This guy has unbelievable pace and the actual ability to go past someone unlike Downing. Also his goal scoring rate is impressive for a winger albeit in the dutch league.

Eds is liverpool interested in raul albiol? {Ed002's Note - If Albiol leaves this summer both Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain will be interested. Much will depend on what happens with the Real Madrid management. I don't know of any confirmed interest from Liverpool.}
