1st time poster here. Absolutely love reading the rumours page and the Eds do a great job.
Regarding Brandt New post about pulisic earlier. I work in Germany 20 mins away from dortmund. and the pulisic rumours were daily at the start of January that he was signing for us but I would put my mortgage on it he is coming no where near us. The current rumour about is he's talking with Spanish clubs.

I have known a German couple since meeting them in the Crown Plaza hotel after we played Dortmund (We exchange e-mails) . They are telling me that the rumour that is going round Dortmund is Liverpool are in for Christian Pulisic and its imminent! Just passing on what I have been told.

I would love it if you were right.

I do find it very unbelievable that a couple you met on holiday once heard a rumour floating around, and their first thought was "Oh my god! We need to email that English dude who bought us a Beer back in 2016! He has to know this! "

But then again, your story is elaborate and original. So i will withold judgement 😉.

Good rumour. At this point of the window, I'll grab on to anything of quality, and hope forna strong finish. I think Pulisic would prove a great signing, but I don't see BvB letting him go in january, and especially not with only one day to go.

Met them in the hotel bar after the match. Got talking swapped scarfs and email addresses kept in touch ever since. They are quite genuine and follow BVD everywhere. They have never told me any bollox b4. As I said just passing on a rumour from over the water.

Thanks for sharing Brandt New.
Fantastic if Klopp pulled that one out of the hat.
I always thought we’d go in big for Pulisic next summer though.
Imagine Pulisic and Keita. wow!

They do have that Sancho kid now (who looks really impressive to me, particularly for a 17 year old), so maybe they're a bit more willing to sell, but I can't see them letting him go for anything less than a absolute fortune.

31 Jan 2018 14:19:34
Yes great if we get Pulisic but we really need to look behind the front players that part is very much sorted but while poor keepers defenders and not a good enough midfield I think finances would be better spent in these areas this would help LFC and my bloody nails every time we play.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Jan 2018 12:18:33
Has Klopp got any pulling power? I know he got VVD and Salah who are sound but everyone else he has gone for have snubbed us and gone somewhere else. so what powers has he got because Ming, Lovren, Moreno, Gomez, Firmino, Can, Clyne are Brendan's signings. I was lead to believe he found all these players for buttons while at Dortmund?

It's not klopp that is the issue, it is the north of England. The only reason city and utd get their players is well. Wages. Money orientated players.

Agree3 Disagree2

30 Jan 2018 16:53:09
I don't think it was Klopp that got the players for Dortmund.

Agree3 Disagree1

Only some grainy CCTV footage and a doormans statement can confirm that about Klopp.

31 Jan 2018 12:31:24
Would you be happy in the workplace if you liked your job BUT found out others got paid more than you? As he cliche goes it is a short career, all players should be interested in getting good money from their time, although it shouldn’t be their god.

But as others have said who are these star players who have turned down Klopp/ LFC?

Agree1 Disagree2

31 Jan 2018 14:20:30
Irish rover if your right then why didn’t we sign the person who found these players? If it weren’t Klopp . The north west another reason lol well shanks Bob Kenny all got top players to north west and won leagues and trophies next wages another reason that’s why players go to Manx’s no it is because they are going to win trophies so that kills that one . next one he got VVD well yes he did but cost us a extra 25 million due to illegal approach and did say he got him . He has tried to get Pulisic. Monaco player and others are they in LFC shirts! O and his misses no joke about the mans wife just pulling top player for LFC.

It is a good move, plenty of game time,
but for me, I would have brought him into the squad, and benched Can, who is on his way out, and his head is probably somewhere else,
its time we got tough with these players .

Agree0 Disagree5

30 Jan 2018 17:18:07
while i agree with your sentiment happy, far too many players are being allowed to be potentially harmful to their clubs seasons by running down contracts. I don't think outing can for ejaria right now would help much.

30 Jan 2018 18:41:29
Going to be a space on the bench then 😁.

for what its worth, Ejaria is being touted as the next Pogba, I will add that this lad will be even better than Pogba, 20 yrs old, and so much potential .
plus he is part of the future of Liverpool Football Club, five minutes after Can has gone, he will be forgotten .

Wasn’t Brannagan going to be the next big thing? And many others who never worked out. Probably help the players if those comparisons weren’t made of someone who has barely made a first team squad at the age of 20.

I saw a report saying Real Madrid might be in a bit of financial trouble because of their stadium name sponsor (or something) falling through and they will need to sell players to recoup some of the €400mil, so surely they won’t be able to afford Salah? here’s to hoping anyway 😅.

Believable2 Unbelievable6

30 Jan 2018 11:20:03
They'll get bailed out by the Spanish government (again) .

Agree23 Disagree0

30 Jan 2018 11:35:50
Rumour has it that in the attacking positions they want hazard, Kane and Salah.
Spurs will probably demand a very high fee for Kane (if they let him go), and likewise Chelsea for Hazard, and we know Salahs value is going to increase hugely if he continues to play the way he has been.
The ageing (and fading) Ronaldo will ask for very large wages from any interested clubs, and the permanently injured Bale's fee will probably be in the region of £100m plus, all of which makes it difficult to envisage there being lots of takers for either player.

So you can't help but wonder how Real are going to finance a complete new forward line of world class superstars that might cost a combined £500 million.
I do wonder if even Real will have the resources to pay for all three of the stars they are rumoured to be going after this summer.
Player sales maybe?

Agree6 Disagree0

30 Jan 2018 11:50:19
Real Madrid is the largest footballing brand in the world, they have not spent a lot of money in previous windows.

Expect them to have the cash reserves to do as they wish.

Agree6 Disagree3

{Ed001's Note - they don't have large cash reserves, but they are able to draw on large amounts of credit to use for transfers.}

30 Jan 2018 12:15:47
Yes Ed don't they in a very leaned wording take what their future earning are and loan against those, they have done this previously with "galactico" signings haven't they.

Guess the tree has been taken down now ed?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - all clubs do that mate, transfers are never paid with from cash in the bank, except in very rare circumstances, such as a team that has had financial difficulties. One of the best sources I used to have many years ago was a 'friend' who used to be one of the decision makers on these loans for a private financial institution. She opened my eyes to a lot of the financial side of the game, and how so many businesses operate on an overdraft. I have only had an overdraft once, when the bank made an error and sent me a letter, which they charged me £7 for to tell me that I was £6.33 overdrawn due to this letter that they were sending me to tell me that I was now overdrawn. Which was confusing. What was even more confusing was that over the next few days I received about 50 more of the same letters, with a £7+interest increase in the overdraft I had due to the fact that they had sent me a letter and charged me for it. The best bit was that the bank were very 'good' about it, they told me they would not charge me interest on the overdraft but I still had to pay for the letters! I think you can imagine my reply and I immediately went across the road and opened an account with a different bank. Two days later the two banks only went and announced a merger! Sorry got sidetracked then.

Basically most businesses in Europe, whether football clubs or otherwise, tend to operate off an overdraft. Arsenal are a very obvious exception. When they need funding for something big, like a player, they see certain financial institutions for short term loans against future income, which is what she dealt with. I remember when Spurs, who were one of her clients, were hawking round Europe trying to find a striker, and she could tell me exactly how much they were willing to spend as she was the one providing the funds!

The tree got ripped down straight after we lost to Swansea. I was in need of something else to tear down after the WBA result!}

30 Jan 2018 12:17:31
Do they end up actually paying this line of credit back Ed? Seems they’ve been drawing on it for years!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - yes mate, they do, it is Barca that has built up significant and overwhelming debt burdens. However the banks are afraid to force them to repay as they would then find half of Spain would take their money out!}

30 Jan 2018 12:26:10
The report was suggesting that they would not be abandoning their transfer targets, but would need to sell to buy, now that the naming has fallen through.

The names they mentioned were Ronaldo, Bale and Isco as likely departures. I guess you can add Benzema and James Rodríguez to that. Pretty impossible to price all 5 due to each of them having some negatives due to age, wages, lack of playing time and injuries.

But Real Madrid tend to get what they want so I can see it happening. Biggest question is who can afford Fee and Wages of any of those names, certainly a big investment for any club.

So unless there is a serious change over the next 5 months losing Salah will be a serious threat. This would not just be a money move now, it would be an opportunity to be part of a new project at one of the biggest clubs in the world. Easy sell for his agent and the buying club.

{Ed001's Note - well yes, until she got married. Her hubby objected to her having other 'friends' after that. Miserable bugger.}

30 Jan 2018 12:52:05
I was under the impression that Madrid were after Hazard and Neymar for the wide positions and that it was Salah who asked his agent to contact Madrid, not the other way round.

Don't get me wrong, I think Madrid would be interested in Salah if they cannot get their first choice players, but I don't think he is top of their list.

Feel free to correct me if i'm wrong Eds (it's happened plenty of times before)

Agree2 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - that sounds pretty close to me mate.}

30 Jan 2018 13:09:31
Hazard, Kane and Salah? They won’t get all 3, probably only one, and guess which one they will get.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - Kane?}

30 Jan 2018 14:30:02
cant see them getting Hazard or Kane . and if we got a very high price for Salah, it would be very tempting for the club .

30 Jan 2018 14:38:52
It would be more tempting to me to watch them with Salah playing.

Don’t Madrid own loads of land that they sell off to finance transfers? Or has that all gone now?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - they sold the training ground, massively overpriced, in a one off deal that also saw the govt give them a brand new better training ground too.}

30 Jan 2018 17:28:38
they are 'royal' madrid for a reason.

Agree1 Disagree0

30 Jan 2018 18:33:18
You got stuffed Ed01.

when the banks were charging for "letters" a guy I know argued the toss with them that legally their time (to write the letter) was no more valuable than his and he in turn was charging them to reply to each letter. in the end he just had to pay the overdraft not the charges.

So after two very poor performances will Klopp swing the axe and shake things up?
Karius has to come back, Gomez must replace TAA and either Klavan or Lovren for the inept Matip.
I read last night ome great posts on playing Hendo and Ox as the two, Mane and Salah on the wings which I think is a great shout. Can and Wini have had enough chances and if nothing else dropping them in a World Cup year might put a well deserved rocket up their backsides.
Another great shout on one of the pages was Ings up top who is a terrier and deserves a chance and a Firminho playing in a free role.
It’s Huddersfield next so we’re not expecting all out attack against us. Klopp needs to start shaking things up and showing players that abject performances will not be tolerated. A few games in the bench for Can and Wini might just change their attitudes, hopefully for the better.

Believable20 Unbelievable0

30 Jan 2018 10:16:41
Dropping gini won't perk him up for the world cup as he's watching from his couch anyway. TAA I think would be worth playing tonight as he's better going forward than gomez. Is tonight a chance to play gomez CB with VVD? Klopps stated tactics were to blame against Swansea so expect a formation change, I doubt a 442 or 4411 but possibly 3 at the back or 4132. On the transfer front, no more in this window, shame we didn't challenge for PEA. I'm the summer, a gk, cdm and a striker to replace studge and probably ings departures.

Agree2 Disagree1

30 Jan 2018 10:16:58
The problem is this. Bringing Henderson back in is probably sensible, now that he is over his latest injury, but then who if you drop both Can and Wijnaldum, it means almost certainly that James Milner will play in centre midfield and he is a liability at the best of times in that position.

Agree2 Disagree4

30 Jan 2018 10:19:13
I'd go Klavan, solid, unspectacular and until he was dropped, had cut out making silly mistakes. Never thought I would say that but there you go.

Agree13 Disagree0

30 Jan 2018 10:33:57
Mr Dennis. reread the original post. he clearly states both hendo and the Ox in midfield to replace Gini and can and a switch to 442 risk formation. Milner wouldn't need to start
Cheers.

Agree5 Disagree0

30 Jan 2018 11:08:47
Klopp isn't going to go 442, he isn't Roy Hodgson.

Agree0 Disagree8

{Ed001's Note - he has gone 4-4-2 quite a few times.}

30 Jan 2018 11:13:27
Shake things up?!

With what?!

Have you seen our bench?

Agree4 Disagree7

30 Jan 2018 11:52:26
Mr Dennis, as ED001 has alluded to Klopp has already tried this formation a few times this season, and with Keita arriving in the summer you should expect it to happen more often! 442 isn't a bad way of setting up a modern team, ask athletico Madrid and Leicester city. rather than assuming only a dinasuar like Roy Hodson would use it 😉.

Agree3 Disagree0

30 Jan 2018 13:01:39
Formations don't win matches . Players do.
Good players
Clever players
Hungry players
Find a way to win
Do we have them?
Not sure.

Agree1 Disagree4

30 Jan 2018 13:03:46
The difference is this, the title winning Leicester side had and current Atletico side have the players to be able sit back and soak up pressure when needed as both played on the counter and soaked up pressure, we lack any players that have that ability. Not one of our midfielders are at the level of Kante (who was so good that the team felt like it was having two players instead of one and he even made Drinkwater look like a footballer) or Niguez and Koke. Not one of our midfielders are as good as those players or ever will be, name me one midfielder that we have that even comes close? It is like entering an Austin Maestro into a grand prix and hoping to win.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - would it be the MG version of the Maestro though?}

30 Jan 2018 14:56:22
Shake things up in Kevin Murphy's box of rice (musical instrument) obviously mate :)

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Jan 2018 15:25:37
For me the 4-3-3 is the best formation for us.

The issue for me is the lack of creativity and protection offered from our midfield 3. Hendo on his day can offer both of these things but since his string of injuries has failed to show his true ability.

Coutinho obviously offered the creativity to feed clever balls to the front 3 in tight spaces. This has been our main issue in the last 2 games against teams who are happy to sit and defend. We have had a huge percentage of the possession but it has all been slow and sideways.

In terms of protection I can't remember the last time that we had a quality DM who would sit there and help out the defence. Can and Wijnaldum have both had a go without much success. I don't know the number of goals that have resulted from Can giving the ball away in bad positions but from memory there have been several.

Keita will be a huge bonus when he joins but for me we will still need a 3rd quality central midfielder to play alongside Hendo (if he can prove himself fit and refind his form) and Keita.

If we can get in a top quality CM and a top quality GK for next season I would be a happy man.

Agree0 Disagree1

30 Jan 2018 15:33:17
Hahaha Ed001 my mate had an mg maestro turbo not so long ago, was a bit of a state though.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - had it won any grands prix?}

30 Jan 2018 16:52:42
I think you’re spelling prix wrong Ed001.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - ah could be mate.}

30 Jan 2018 18:26:04
I think against the teams who sit deep and we struggle to break down I would like to see him swap Salah and Mane on the wings (I know they're preferred is to cut in) but having them on the wing and they're favoured foot on the outside will stop having them need to cut in where its always jam packed, I think this would solve a load of problems breaking these teams down - what's everyones thoughts.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Jan 2018 20:43:48
Cialb - I like how you are trying to think outside the box. Personally I think that would leave Firmino isolated in the middle and would also clog up the space our fullbacks would be running into. I suppose the fullbacks could move centrally in attack much like Lahm did at Bayern but Im not sure we have the players for that. TAA maybe but our left side I doubt.

Agree0 Disagree0

31 Jan 2018 07:46:44
No Ed001 it didn’t win any Grand Prix, although it may have stood a chance after After god had spent years corroding the body away in an attempt to make it lighter and more competitive on the track.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - they were obviously designed for racing lightness being so easily corroded. I think the design team must have used rust to get round homologation issues and road legality.}

30 Jan 2018 08:36:38
Does anyone know how ejaria is doing, how close is he to getting in the squad again. And is woodburn still too small to cut it?

Believable1 Unbelievable0

30 Jan 2018 10:55:30
Ejaria is really impressing, as is Woodburn. They're the stand out players in the u23 team (along with the now injured Brewster) by far this season. They work off each other brilliantly as well in attacking midfield. Watch out for Adam Lewis though. Made his u23 debut a couple of days ago and much is expected of him over the next 6-18 months.

Ejaria really should be making the bench though. He turns 21 this year and we have more to gain from playing him for 10 minutes here and there, than from giving Milner those minutes. Woodburn isn't too small, he's just young. After the furore around his goal against Leeds, it is important we make sure he stays grounded. Last thing we want is another teenager who thinks he's a big time Charlie (ie, Sterling) .

Agree3 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - Milner gets on the bench because he can cover multiple positions, both in midfield and defence. Ejaria can't do that, so it then limits the options available if there are injuries.}

30 Jan 2018 13:51:42
Ejaria can cover DM, CM, AM and LM though Ed. No denying he can't play RB or LB like Milner can, but although Milner may be able to play in multiple positions, he can't play any of them (except maybe RM) to a Premier League standard.

Why not use Arnold off the bench in place of Milner? He can play every position Milner can play, and to a better standard. Yet for some reason, Klopp always turns to Milner 😣 Arnold even takes penalties and set pieces better than Milner does!

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - not from what I have seen of him he can't. He does not look to have the ability to play anywhere but central midfield for me, well attacking mid.}

30 Jan 2018 14:15:46
That is definitely where he is best Ed. He looked a little bit lacking in terms of discipline when i saw him play a holding role. No more so than James Milner though! Looks like he's going on loan anyway so I hope he has a good 4 months at Sunderland!
