Ed001: I'm guessing the poster is looking for a qualitative judgement rather than a quantitative. You could give this by pointing out certain abilities, making comparisons to other players who play in the same position, mentioning the level of interest in him from clubs etc. Hope this helps. RedDen {Ed001's Note - when I have said numerous times I haven't watched him play? If people would read the previous posts I wouldn't have to waste my time with stupid questions.}

hi all recieved some news from a friend that butland has rejected going to chelsea as chances would be limited and doesn't feel this would be a good move in his career he is also holding out for a bid from Liverpool don't know how true this is but thought I would share

I know Jack from his time at Cheltenham. He always said his dream would be to play for England and Liverpool, he has done 50% of that dream

Both rubbish! He has said no such thing at all, never the type of person to say such a thing! And as I posted some time ago I stated that he didn't want to go anywhere unless he was forced out due to birminghams finacial difficulties

Your friend obviously reads the tabloids which aren't always true. it was in the paper today.

The way we've clearly been giving more time for Brad Jones this year will have possibly made him think out of all of the major clubs in the EPL that we are most likely to give him games if he can make the step up. possibly arsenal as well (if they're even in the market for a stopper)

Look at the time on the post - it was made before the match. Sure I can't be the only one surprised that Carra was playing against someone like Theo Walcott?

Carra earned his MOTM.

However, we cannot expect to play that sort of style each match. The problem with Carra remains - he can be exposed for pace and is not good in the air anymore. These were not issues at Arsenal because we played counterattack and he could defend from the edge of his box, and Arsenal tend to play it on the ground. If we are to be the ones playing the possession game, we are vulnerable with him as CB.

Carra will always throw himself in front the player, ball, boot to the head. May have lost yard or two but still reads the game better than most C/H at Liverpool.

Last summer Csonto told Associated Press that because of changes at the club his client wanted to know what the future held and said that there were enquiries being made of Skrtel from Italy. I understand there has been some recent tentative interest from two clubs in Russia and Fiorentina and bids are expected to be made in the summer.}

Ed002, would I be right in saying that Skrtel was told what the future held, was happy with it and signed a long term contract. {Ed002's Note - I have no idea what he was told.}

But he signed a new contract. How do you see him moving on in the summer?

Eds Any truth in us being interested in Biglia from Anderlecht? Kind of player we need in the middle at minute. Available for 8 million which is decent for a 26 year old.

Apparently Inter not interested in him at that price, but surely that's good value for a player that age and quality. He'd certainly be a good addition to our squad for that fee.

Possibility he could be a deadline day signing?

I have been told by someone who I deem very knowledgable within the club, that should pep leave for spain in the summer (which is likely) Liverpool will bid for a guy called Bernd Leno. A young German keeper from Leverkusen.

I have heard of him but never seen him.

Coutinho. Liverpool's no 10. He has agreed terms and completed his medical too. The official announcement is being delayed due to work permit which will be sorted easily. He wil be ready for the match against Manc. V also have renewed hopes on Thomas Ince while Mauro Zarate is also in our radar.

Eds about ince's contract at Blackpool, a lot of people say there is a clause in the contract that it can be extended by another year. But surly that would have to be agreed to by both party's and not just at blackpools discretion. So with this is it possible that ince will be able to sign for what ever club in the summer for free.

Heard a rumour, nothing more, that Christian Bentekke is being considered and would be a great boost with the changes Liverpool FC have already made.

Maybe in the summer but wouldn't be eligible to play for us now, he had played for his previous club before playing for Villa and so can't play for a 3rd club this season

Hi Eds, I saw one ed mention that a goalkeeper will be the main summer target, except from Butland have we been monitoring any other goalkeepers that you know of?

Alex {Ed001's Note - Vorm, a couple of German keepers, one being the lad everyone seems to love Ter Stegen, I have been told there is a couple playing in Italy we are monitoring, but I don't trust much coming from Italy. One thing for sure, we will be going for one who can play out from the back, that is what we are looking at. It will probably become clearer after the January window shuts and the scouts settle down to watching keepers more closely.}

Is the other German goalkeeper Bernd Leno? {Ed001's Note - I can't remember mate, that's why I just said a couple of them, I never made a note of who it was at the time. I will have to ask again who it was.}

Cheers mate, would love Ter Stegen as first choice think he looks a great keeper, Leno another from Germany who is good, not sure either are great with their feet but both solid elsewhere.

Said it before, will say it again.

Why not ask Newcastle at the end of the season for �10M plus Kruhl for Andy Carroll. Good young keeper, big and strong already with 2-3 years PL experience which is vital. Then sell Reina to the highest bidder to boost the coffers.

Ed001 is there a keeper you would like to see us go for in particular? Obviously Butland has a lot of potential (although hasn't been performing lately) and Ter Stegen who is also highly rated (although I am sure other teams will be pursuing too).

Dan. {Ed001's Note - not sure of any of those, Butland I don't rate at all, Ter Stegen seems a little poor with his distribution, but otherwise excellent. Possibly Vorm, he does look a good all round keeper.}

Liverpools january transfer business will be completed hopefully this afternoon before the arsenal game tonight. Coutinho will pass his medical and sign a 4year deal. The interest in Ince has cooled as it was either Ince or Coutinho and Brendon feels Coutinho is the better buy currently.

This just in! Liverpool will make a deadline day bid for Ashley Williams of Swansea. This will be in the region of 12-15million. There is clearly some friction between Skrtel and BR and any offer to come in above 10million will be accepted by Liverpool for Skrtel.

God I not, especially after the drivel he spouted about our Luis in his so called book

Take 5 million for Skrtel and get rid of him, was never inpressed with him! BR needs time and players to get us back to where we belong, YNWA.

We've already got two overpriced Swansea ex-Swansea players, we don't want anymore.

I thought with Rodgers having come in from a smaller club he'd know about quality, low priced players from the likes of Belguim, Holland and Germany.
The league is awash with players the smaller clubs have brought in for bargain fees that then go for big transfer fees to bigger clubs, and I was hopefully Rodgers would be aware of these sort of players. Unfortunately he's just like the last few Liverpool managers, overpaying for mediocrity, with the exception of Sturridge (just about) and hopefully Coutinho.

So Williams will potentially cost 50% more than Skrtel ? Priceless. I take it we are also in for Graham, Dyer, Michu etc etc, absolute tosh !

So get this right your saying Williams is a better player than Skrtel and we will bid around �15m to get him and sell Skrtel for around �10m, are you off your rockers Skrtel is a very good player, and i'm pretty sure most fans would want Skrtel instead of Williams. Also are you forgetting the fact that Williams critcised Suarez in his book, so how unsettled do you think Suarez would be if Williams were to arrive ?

Firstly Williams is as someone has posted coming up to 29 and so is outside FSG's policy of buying only younger players.Secondly �12 to 15 million is a vastly inflated price for a player of his age and ability.Thirdly we would have to find a buyer for Skrtel before we could even conside a spend this high and if you're in a hurry to unload a player you get cut price offers.My football bump of knowledge tells me you're full of hot air and this deal is fantasy.

Apart from Williams being not good enough, too old and hates suarez there is still a 12 month agreement in place between Rodgers and Swansea that prevents him from signing any of their players. If you remember in the summer Gylfi Siggurdson was a loanee from Germany and Allen had a special clause in his contract which allowed us to bid for him.

Hi Eds is there a chance that we could send anyone on loan to Blackpool as a makeweight for Ince (Suso) Also, I have heard that Coutinho will be annouced at about 11am. And will wear the number 10 shirt. {Ed001's Note - yes that is possible, the issue is more that Blackpool don't need the money and any new manager coming in will want to keep Ince.}

Quick question was wondering if you know of any interest in any physical midfielders that play a holding position as Liverpool could really do with one, also do you know of any interest in any goalkeepers as reina may leave obviously there are the usual rumours about butland but he has been rubbish for birmingham so far so I don't think he would be a realistic option to replace pepe

Right now, that I know of, we have not had any physical holding midfielders repeatedly watched. The priority was forwards anyway this window, I expect it to be a goalie in the summer.}

Summer would be a more defence oriented search then ed? Cb and CDM cover is required I believe. {Ed001's Note - that is what I expect, yes. We already had a strong defence, so it wasn't the priority this season. We all know we just needed to add goals to take a step forward!}

You can't trust everything you are told, because a lot is an agent trying to stir up interest. It can be a minefield at times.}

The defence started creaking last season and has got worse this. Then again, we don't play in a way that offers the defence much protection, Oldham being a classic example.

Rodgers may think if you have 79% of possession you'll win games, but when you make it so easy, teams have a great chance of scoring with their 21% of possession.

Liverpool have now pulled out of the butland chase and are concentrating on trying to tie up the last few bits.

Incoming I expect ince, mirin or Diakité (maybe both to be done deals) and zarate (on loan) and that will be us!

Outgoing coates, suso, pacheco loan and the big one to watch is skertel - we would accept a bid of 15 million and a few clubs in italy/russia are sniffing around!

what is worrying is rodgers still thinks we are powerful enough in midfield when we are obviously not! he hasn't got the time to learn he needs to learn FAST! he's already had 7 months we simply don't have the players to play his system.

For this reason I expect carra to be manager sooner than expected!

Sorry mate, but I really don't expect Carragher to be manager in the near future, even if BR does leave, I suspect the owners would want someone with at least some managerial experience.

I agree that we do need a powerful midfielder, but how do you know that BR is not looking for midfield power house for the team. Just because it has not been slapped across the tabloids/net doesn't mean its not happening. It might be that he isn't looking or it might be that he is but the player he is after is not available yet.

I know everyone will throw the name Diame at me (I agree he looks a top player), but what we see as a suitable player for the team, might not be what BR wants.

Remember BR will have a better understanding of what we need than we do, he sees the players every day. So lets give him a chance to get the team how he wants it, as you say he has had seven months, but we had other prioritise, like a goal scorer, then we were after a creative midfielder, it has only been since the Oldham game that people have really been shouting about a powerful midfielder.

You are right Rodgers does seem slow to learn. We need another physical player in midfield. Sadly BR decided to try to make our players fit his preferred style whereas a good manager would choose a style of play to get the best out of his players.

Do you really see 5 or 6 players coming? The team needs to gel, it's taking a bit of time as it is, with another 2 players coming in it'll take at least the rest of the season to know how eachother plays. That's about half a new team...just saying

Get behind the manager for god sake! We're not a top four team anymore, and we won't get back there overnight. Any manager that we have needs time to settle, along with at least 4/5 windows to make the changes he wants.

We have improved, the quality of players has improved and we have a bright future under Brendan... Would you rather we turn into one of those mid table struggling clubs that chop managers every season, thus never progress....

God I swear these doubters are so tunnel visioned when it comes to giving there reasons when slating a manager! we got more points last year because we were carrying on an old philosophy that we have played for a number of seasons! this year we have a new manager implimenting a new philosophy! new ideas take time not just for the players to grasp but also for this new machine to fire at all cylinders! he's got rid of tge mercenaries who were there just to collect there paycheck like we are the bloody job centre and openly said he will only sign the players that have the mental strength and the want to succeed in the shirt! this guy has a vision and isn't hiding behind millions like mancini is we will be a success! can you honestly say mancini would do a better job of he had the same status and money as brendan.... I thought Butland wanted 1st team football, he certainly ain't going to get that at Chelsea. At �3.5m surely he would of been a good buy and career wise better move to join Everton, Southampton or Fulham as those all expressed a bit of intreset in him.

not a transfer rumour per se, but there's a rumour that Liverpool will be touring Australia for pre-season. Have you heard anything similar?

Just read on the 'Football Australia' now that there were representaives from LFC at the Melbourne v Sydney game making assessments for a possible friendly. Same story also has a quote that they weren't there scouting players as had been reported.
So maybe the Marco Rojas rumours can be put to bed. Although he did have a good game for the occasion.

I'm sure United are. Would be great to see them both in Aus! Maybe a little tournament where they'd meet each other...

Melbourne Victory (A-league) are apparently in talks With Liverpool to try to arrange a match in Australia during pre Season. This is from our local (Aussie) newspapers if you can believe them.

I live in Sydney (Ex of Widnes cheshire) and its big news over here, either Sydney FC or Melbourne victory will play the reds, Sydney are front runners but a late bid from Melbourne is expected, the Australian FA are funding the trip. Liverpool will play on the Wed or Thursday before Man Utd play a Australian all star team on the Sat.

Yeah, man united are coming in the summer. Football Aus hoping to get the two to play in Sydney, with an 83, 500 capacity would be a cracker.

LFC will already be down south as they have to play a per season game in Indonesia for sponsorship contract purposes and then most likely from there to Aus with 1 game to be played in either Melbourne or Sydney a week after United play the A-League Allstars. Would be great if they play a pre season friendly against each other.

This is true. Liverpool officials were in melbourne checking out young NZ international Rojas who plays for Melb Victory. They also taking tour of the Melburne Facilities for the upcoming tour. Cant wait.

A mate of mine in Aus told me a few days ago that he read in the paper that Liverpool will play Melbourne in July.

LFC have already got a tour to Indonesia this summer (they announced it last summer). So its likely they could well include a trip to Oz!
