I have just read an interesting article regarding boston red socks from a couple of years back in which henry says:

"if the right people were already at the sox then there would be no need for us to buy them"

this to me indicates change of management and board. with the board changes already taking place. whats your thoughts ed? {ed's note - well that quote doesn't really say that, it suggests a change in players instead.}

Any player at Liverpool can be replaced! I don't think a tremendous club like ours should ever fall ransom to any player. United shocked me in that way because there club has a tradition and values that is second to Liverpool in world football and to sell it's sole is unforgivable. This said, should any Liverpool demand a pay rise or leave deal. Then let him go!.
What Liverpool need now is a stronge manager and modern today's coaches and training.
Should any big star player leave, then he'll be replaced like any kids hero of the past

I think that the losses of macherano an more so alonso have been our major downfall which is why i think it it so so so important that we sign ever banega as he is a blend of both of them. do you agree ed? {ed's note - I think Banega is top class, but I think our problem is more a lack of width than any central weakness.}

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

i do agree with you ed, but i think that the service to torres has suffered so much since alonso and mach going as alonso had the killer instinct and mach freed up gerrard. i would love to see more width and just wish that we had signed adam johnson. with all the money city has spent he has been their best and cheapest buy. . how ironic. do you rate johnson or do you see better wingers waiting in the wings. . excuse the pun! {ed's note - I do rate Johnson, but there are better wingers out there, Sanchez springs to mind for instance. I think the service to Torres would improve with some pace and width in the team, for starters the opponents would have to defend a little deeper. That in turn forces their midfield to drop a little deeper too or leave space between them and the defence for us to exploit.}

Not really a rumour just an observation. I saw on the Liverpool website mavinga in some of the pictures with the first team. does this mean he could be on the bench on sunday or that the reserves are training with the first team?

The way i see it is 5 players to come in, this being 2 in january and 3 in the summer.

expect Honda and Llorente in January, followed by in the summer Ever Banega/ Javi Martinez, Taye taiwo and Arda Turan. If u count Taiwo as free we should be spending about 60-65 million. Thus selling at realistic prices,

Aquilani 12m
Lucas 5m
Skrtel 7m
Maxi 2.5m
Babel 6.5m

32 million net spend. Does anybody think we can't afford 33 million net?

ed, what do u think on this? {ed's note - Honda would shift so much merchandise that you can pretty much count him as a free transfer as well. With that in mind, I don't see any reason why we couldn't afford it.}

u got ur work cut out ed. . .

Blair Mayne YNWA {ed's note - I would still choose Keisuke Honda over any of them though, it is just the specific positions I was picking for. Do you think we need to add a central midfielder this season? Personally I would be happy with Gerrard and Meireles, Shelvey and Lucas as back ups, and if injuries hit then the likes of Coady from the reserves would be good. I see a lot of people suggesting Coady as a back up centre back, but his best position is definitely central midfield.}

I don't think we will go for a centre midfielder ED. But if we had to pick one it would be Benega for me. I know you're a big fan of Honda who i think NESV will go for not just for his footballing abilities but also his marketing value.

You're spot on about Gerrard and Meirless playing in the centre which for me is bad news for Coady and Palsson (who i also think could step up). Shelvey (18) and Lucas (23) will always be are back up centre midfielders as long as they are at the club and they are still pretty young which is why i said could be bad news for Coady and Palsson.

I can't understand why everyone wants to sell this Deadwood lad. Everone seems to think we could get a decent price for him so he must be fairly useful. Doesn't seem fair that he hasn't been given much of a chance to prove himself. I liked the sound of him so tried to get a new home shirt with his name on for my little boy but the people in the club shop suggested that I might be mad and should probably leave the shop immediately.

in all the recent months of "we will sign" and "lets go get". . . . . . . . . i have not once in them months noticed the name effelay?? ?
mata, turan, banega, a young(god no) and even goldenballs himself have all been muted, but this guy is new to me. .

I would love to see Ιver Banega (£10m) and Arda Turan (£10m) come in.Ashley Young is not worth the £15m-£18m we would be paying for him.
And sadly Mata signed a new 5-year-contract (i think).

In Jan.
Turan, £10m, last year on contract, natural winger
Banega, £10m, mix of Masch and Xabi
Coentrao, £14m, good player
Andy Carroll, £10m, i highly rate this guy, young, strong, tall, fast and a deadly finisher!

Out in Jan.
Poulsen, £3m
Maxi, £4m
Aurelio, £1m

Ed? just wonering, if you could choose a left back, 2 wingers, a midfielder and a striker , who would your choices be ?

thanks {ed's note - left back would be Coentrao, wingers would be Sanchez and Afellay, midfielder would be Banega and striker would be Llorente. What about you mate?}

Mine would be striker, Llorente/ Saurez/ Wickham, midfielder Banega, wingers, Turan/ Sanchez, and left back Coentrao/ Cissokho.

Would be very unlikely but not impossible.

Does anyone else think that with the new owners looking to invest in good young players, that Conor Wickham could be one of our main targets in January?

For me this young lad is a future international and has very good potentional. He's big strong, good in the air, a bit of pace, scores goals and what i've seen of him works hard for the team.

I also heard that he's an LFC fan which could matter as all the big English Clubs scouts are watching him.

What you think ED?

Blair Mayne YNWA {ed's note - we have had him watched for ages mate, we should move for him now, while he is out of favour, leave it too long and his price will rise again. He is one of the bright young stars of English football.}

Personally i would like to see liverpool sign
- Bastos - add to the lack of width
- Young- also for the above reason and english
- Gomez - strong powerful striker, link well with torres
- banega - young , well known for range of passing , could finaly replace alonso

im not saying get them all in january , but , over time .

unbel- you wouldn't like to see this
bel - you would

What do you think Ed ? {ed's note - Bastos and Banega (especially Banega) I would love to see play for us, but Young is not good enough and I am not convinced by Gomez.}

Liverpool will soon enter contract negotiations with Bastian Schweinsteiger over him joining Liverpool, the deal will be roughly 95k a week, if negotiations are successful he will join in the summer of 2011.
Other targets are:
Steven Defour 10 Million+ Milan Jovanovic
Anthony Annan 8 Million
Pablo Hernandez 14 Million
Taye Taiwo (pre contract agreement)
Ibrahim Affaely (Pre contract agreement)
Either Fernando Llorente 20 Mil or Lisandro Lopez 16 Mil or Oscar Cardozo 15 Mil
I think some of these additions will be great, what do you think ed ?
Liverbird {ed's note - we can't begin contract negotiations yet, pre-contracts can only be signed within the last 6 months, if the player is contracted to a team from a different FA.}

All this talk of big transfers in Jan is a bit premature, we are being linked with several players a lot I agree with but surely Roy will not the one to bring them in. What would be the point in keeping Roy let him spend £40m and then realise he's not up to it get rid of him and then a new manager comes in and wants to buy his own team that may not include the new ones Roy has bought. We need to appoint a new manager now let him access the current squad and then get rid of the ones he doesn't want and bring in the players we need.

We should sign Arteta and Benzema.

Lucas looking good, so cut the slack you guys are giving him. Watch he will be man of match this weekend.
Grow up and give credit where it is due. Most improved player this season with lots more to come.

Look at the game and his workrate (brilliant).
Support him and you will see a player better than Mascherano and Alonso. Give him the 12th man support so that he plays with the confidence of a first choice Brazilian/ Liverpudlian.

Well I agree mate let's get Arteta and Benzema in and I would also like to see us go for Landon Donovan (looks like a very intelligent player and he knows where the goal is)

To everyone going to the Bolton match - loudest cheer for Lucas. Come on mates let's positively support all of our players and Let's cheer them to a 4-0 victory against a stubborn Bolton team.

If you lot want to see a team, that would really make us start winning trophys, then here goes.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . REINA. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

.JOHNSON. . SHAWCROSS. . .AGGER. . . . CONTROAE.AFFELAY. . . .GERRARD. . . . MEIRELES. . . . . .MATA

. . . . . . . . . . . TORRES. . . BENZEMA. . . . . . . . . .

Now that is a realistic YOUNG team, that would get us WINNING. Exactly what NESV want.

29 Oct 2010 21:26:06
Reading between the lines of Mr.Henry's statement, i don't think NESV will throw in any sort of the elusive transfer kitty! i think it will be more like, we need x amount of players in positions of weakness, each player will be evaluated, i.e age, record, fitness, availability and price etc. then once it is agreed that the suggested player is a viable proposition to move the team forward, the transfer fee will be made available. hence player is valued say 30m, if it is agreed that he is worth the amount stated and the purchase is in the best interests of the team and the club, then it will be sanctioned!

As the person below said
hes wrong when he says they will only sell to a basque club even though they do not buy another other player then basque based players, real madrid have earmarked him as the number 9 typical striker and also barca are interested, so expect llorente to sign for madrid in the summer as he wants to stay in spain

@ 29 Oct 2010 19:45:07 "Liverpool Rumours I have no reason to make this up, Adam Johnson has had a falling out with Mancini and desperately wants out of City. He has since been told or is lead to believe he won't be featuring as often as he would like/ should. I also know for a fact that before he signed for City his preference was us. His 'people' contacted the club but were told thanks, but no thanks. Exactly the type of player we need. Put a sneaky bid in Roy lad."

Strangely enough, when Rafa went for Glen Johnson Liverpool had been keeping extremely close tabs on all three Johnsons and would have took them all if they could have. I think we have to face reality though - there will be no major team changes - in or out - until the summer at the earliest. The forming of the Board is a higher priority and although the club may buy at Christmas it will be to strengthen their position not to rebuild the squad.

We could play the young players with say 5-10 minutes when things are going good. Or when liverpool are losing, we could try the young players to see if they mack an impact (e.g chelsea imploy this tactic with players like fabio borini and josh mceachran) Not to mention the europa leauge, the fa cup and (next year) Carling cup. Or ( perhaps more radicaly) drop players who aren't doing well with younger players against weaker teams and keep the strong players in each are i.e GK DEF MID ATT. However the main issue is for the young goalkeepers, like Hansen and Gulasci. We can't take the goalkeeper out during a gaming, reina is very good and we do need to give brad jones games or he'll leave and no one else will come as back up.

Roy Hodgson does not have the bells to give the young players a start. So fire him, and have a manager that is willing to let them play. Why waste money when we have have one of the most promising youth players in England? Upon Daniel Ayala's return, I would instantly give him more starts alongside Agger. He is the future of our defense, alongside Danny Wilson. So how about giving him his well-earned start? It is a no brainer Martin Kelly should be starting at right back. Jonjo Shelvey has proven that he should be ahead of both Christian Poulsen and Lucas in the pecking order for central midfield. Roy should consider playing a 3-man midfield of Gerrard, Meireles and Shelvey. Oh, what a midifield THAT will be! I also heard some good things about Victor Palsson. David Amoo should give something Maxi to be scared about. That is a player I would like to see start. Also, I want to see some of Gerardo Bruna, Thomas Ince and Raheem Sterling. Where the heck is Daniel Pacheco? He should be given starts to prove that he is the answer to our striker problem. He could be the strike partner Fernando Torres needs. How about Nathan Eccleston? We have two promising left backs in Chris Mavinga and Jack Robinson. Why don' they play, as Konchesky is rubbish and Aurelio is injured too much? And we all know what Suso is capable of. All of these players could be the answer to our problems, who knows? We will never know if we don't have these talented youth players play with the current first-team squad. We need to give these players games so they don't consider leaving in the near future. We might end up regretting letting these players leave.

Believable=Young players need to play more alongside first team squad
Unbelievable=I'd rather spend money than see our youth succeed

Editor, may I ask that this be posted on the rumours section, as I want to know how much people agree/ disagree with me? oh, and your response is much appreciated

For January window:

Buy Ibrahim Affelay, Fabio Coentrao and Ashley Young.
Sell Ryan Babel, Milan Jovanovic and Maxi Rodriguez.
Loan in view to sign Roque Santa Cruz and Adam Johnson as both looks unsettled.
Let the youngsters mould/ nuture with the senior players more.

Team:
Reina
Johnson-Skrtel-Agger-Coentrao
Young-Meireles-Gerrard-Johnson
Santa Cruz-Torres

For the next window if cash is injected:

Players to consider are Edin Dzeko, Gareth Bale, Yoann Gourcyuff, Alexis Sanchez and Davide Santon.

Buy potential good youngsters earlier before their prices goes up and taken by our rivals.

As i have quote earlier, we can only dream. .Hopefully our new owner will never let us walk alone. .

Take care,
Geist

Hi Ed i am all for using the youngsters, however they have to be good enough. I recently watched Ayala against Cardiff and he looked poor and slow, on seeing his name on the teamsheet i was expecting to see him head and shoulders above the rest at this level. However he was outplayed all game, lacking pace and positional play. Last year I also watched Spearing in the championship and was expecting him to control the game and he was outshone by someone who i cannot recall. If Liverpool want to compete at the top level then the yougsters that they use have to be top level. Of the youth team only a few have impressed, namely Shelvey, Pacheco (why doesn't he get a game) and maybe Kelly and that's it. We need more world class players and then we can bring in the youth. At the moment Roy should play his best eleven and slowly bring in the younsters into a winning side with less pressure. Ed whats your thoughts {ed's note - Ayala has been head and shoulders above the rest, or rather I should say he was in the early matches. Unfortunately he has been allowed to go to the wrong team, in my opinion, and playing for a poor team, which is struggling, is not helping him to improve. I believe youngsters need to be brought in to a team regardless of pressure, the best way to learn to swim is to be thrown in at the deep end after all. It will either make them or break them, but you will find out who is up to the job and who isn't.}

What do you think of these players on the point of signing in jan. . . .
Callum McManaman an 18 year old under 19 international who plays for Wigan and has been watched by the manc an in my oppinion a quality prospect!
Ryan Jarvis Wolves winger who gets better every time i watch him and another potential diamond.
Hugo Rodellega Wigan striker with lots of pace and an eye for goal.
Carl Baker Coventry Mid/ Attacker has rose through the leagues has lots of pace and skill and is still only around 25

This is the kind of thing that you really, really want to believe:

"29 Oct 2010 19:45:07

I also know for a fact that before he signed for City his preference was us. His 'people' contacted the club but were told thanks, but no thanks."

It could be true that he is starting to think about an exit, but he does get plenty of game time at the moment- lets see how often he gets played in future to see if the rumour's true.
But either way it would take a lot before they would let him go, and I dread to think how much cash they'd ask for him.
With a premium now on homegrown players, are City really going to let go of a high-quality English player, a fast winger who causes endless problems for defences, and adds great width and attacking threat to City's play?
It would be ironic justice if Johnson forced his way out of City the same way Lescott forced his way out of Everton to get into Eastlands.
Imagine both him and Glen J raiding down the right- that would give any team headaches.

Hi Ed, Finally Liverpool FC (John Henry) have made a statement that's supports the ambition of the club. It was a tonic to hear a statement of the like that Liverpool are a buying not a selling club and are prepared to keep its top players and improve on the current squad, even Roy for once has shown a little positivety. The response by Roy saying its better to buy one quality player than a number of mediocre player (as in the past) was nice to hear. It certainly looks on the surface that we are going in the right direction in the transfer market in looking for world class players instead of buying the cheaper option who we hope would turn into world class players e.g Babbel, jovanovic, Aquilani etc. Time will tell and the January transfer window will be a benchmark for the future, if we by big then the future looks bright and if we fail to buy then all this speculation will still surround the club. Ed whats your thoughts.

Evered

{Editor's Note: Encouraging but January is a really tough time to buy.}

I think we should sign, Honda as he would bring in lots of income in asia, Dzenko would be a quality signing and he would get loads of goals, Fabio contreo would be a good signing at Left back and Mata, Turan, Young to play on the wing,

I also think that youth such as, Kelly, Shelvey, Spearing, Pacheco and Eccleston should be given a chance

{Editor's Note: Sure, I'll post it on the rumours sections. All the players you mention are great prospects. They should all be given a chance - the problem is, you cannot do this all at the same time.}

I have no reason to make this up, Adam Johnson has had a falling out with Mancini and desperately wants out of City. He has since been told or is lead to believe he won't be featuring as often as he would like/ should.

I also know for a fact that before he signed for City his preference was us. His 'people' contacted the club but were told thanks, but no thanks.

Exactly the type of player we need. Put a sneaky bid in Roy lad.

Hi ed, do you believe in my thought. If we can maintain a europe position until january , then get new players to challenge for a top 4 position.

{Editor's Note: Liverpool are not currently in a European position. New players have to improve the team to challenge to be as high as possible.}

My personal Starting 11 come febuary would be: Reina, Johnson, Ayala, Agger, Cissokho, Defour/ Meireles, Gerrard, Hazard, Turan, Llorente, Torres. But i am hearing it will look like this: Reina, Johnson, Carragher, Skrtel, Konchesky, Banega/ Meireles, Gerrard, Hazard, Cole, Llorente, Torres. McKop.

======================================

After the praise Roy gave Raul it's impossible for me to see him buying anyone to compete with him when we lack elsewhere.

Ed. as a yank if NESV want to raise LFC image in the states, they should look to sign Michael Bradley. He is young, intelligent and plays with passion. Also to the people denouncing him, Clint Dempsey is a very good player, better than any winger on the squad currently {ed's note - I wouldn't go for Bradley myself, I don't think he is good enough and has problems channelling his aggression into the right areas. But I agree fully on Dempsey, a very good player, and would be a good option for a second striker.}

Ed, do you thnk liverpool have a chance of siging affelay now barca are involved

Affelay will have to choose what he wants. If he wants to play in the national team he will have to play regularly. For Barca, he will have to dethrone the likes of Iniesta, Xavi, Mascha, Messi and Pedro. With Liverpool, he will have to replace Poulsen or Joe Cole- a little easier! So I feel he could well sign for us.

People, let's not get carried away now. There are a lot of rumours going around about who we will and won't sign in january. Firstly, not many clubs will want to let any decent players go mid season unless they are almost out of contract. Secondly, most players prices will be inflated in January because it's mid season and I can't see the new bosses splashing out over the odds on any player. I think there will be one or two additions to the squad depending on how some players perform from now and jan. Honda makes sense because he would promote the club in the far east for sure, just hope Roy ( if he's still boss) doesn't go for players such as c cole or n'zogbia which in my opinion are never going to take us to where we want to be. Any thoughts?

Hi ed - of all the players bein linked with us, wot are the chances of any of the following being at liverpool and wich ones wud be ur choice . .

the hulk
a.sanchez
a turan
a.young
a.cissoko
t.taiwo
honda
llorente
affelley
c.cole
l.cattermole
m.richards {ed's note - Hulk wants to play in the English Premier, so he is possible, depends who else comes in for him. Sanchez is another that would like to play in England, but he is a United fan so he would choose there if he can. Turan is desperate to play for Liverpool, but it will only happen if Kenny Dalglish is choosing the targets. Young is running down his contract, almost certain to leave Villa in the summer rather than January though. Cissokho, not got a clue what is happening with him, sorry. Taiwo will be moving soon, we are probably the most likely club for him to join, being the ones most in need of a left back. Honda has talked up a move to Liverpool, he will almost certainly move this January window and we have definitely looked at him and had him tracked. I think he is a very likely target and would be my first choice target if I was doing the buying. Llorente is at a club that can't afford to refuse any decent offers, but Real Madrid are tracking him. Afellay has a lot of suitors, unfortunately one of them is Barca, that will make it very difficult to get him, though he would be more likely to get games for us. C. Cole is only going to join us if Roy is picking the targets, not good enough for Liverpool but he fits Roy's type as the main striker. I don't think there is a chance in hell of Bruce selling Liverpool Cattermole, probably a good thing as he is suspended more than he plays. There is no chance of getting Richards, Mancini likes him and they won't sell him to us.}

Talk of future signings and fantasy signings is all very well but the bottom line is that we need to change our manager.

To Omz
You cannot honestly say that N'zogbia is better than Turan and Mata, for starters if you want to compare them on there national teams saying where's mata etc. he has more caps for a very hard to break into spanish squad than N'zogbia does for the currently broken French team. Also Turan's captain for his country i believe.

Then goal returns Turnas is solid and Mata has triple the goals N'zogbia does is just under double the appearances.

Although I have nothing against N'zogbia I feel the other two names you mentioned are superior and will add more.

We will probably only sign 1 player in January, remember the last day of the transfer window and everyone was fully convinced a striker would join and eventually didn't happen. It's twice as hard to sign someone in January for obvious reasons.

On a side note I don't fancy Honda to join I'd rather someone who didn't just have a good world cup to back up their talent.

Remember Diouf?
Asamoah Gyan had a great World Cup, got nominated for the Ballon Do'r because of it and hes with SUNDERLAND.

Finally has anyone heard of Matias Fernandez since South Africa doing something, another "star" of the World cup. It's easy to forget sometimes the teams are quite poor and players stand out.

All this talk about Mata, Turan etc. . Is all good - but are they real world class players?
Mata -
If I am not mistaken, before the world cup, our very own albeit riera was starting for Spain whilst silva was injured, and I can't remember him featuring in the world cup. And as for turan, apart from Liverpool fans who have heard his guy being linked with us for the last year or so, no one else has heard of him!
Another player is Honda. Who I do think is a fabulous player but at his most effective with a striker or behind a front two. So unless we are going to sell gerrad, Cole, meriless, jovanovich it's pointless signing him.

For the league we need tricky , skilful wingers with explosive pace that would change our whole style of play. And with a transfer budget that would probably have to split between a few players, a winger of this quality is going to be difficult. So I think that the player we should be concentrating on signing is CHARLES N'ZOGBIA!
I think you can compare him to any mid- range winger that we can afford and he would be better than them. He's quick, strong, good dribbler, very direct and has a good goal scoring return and most importantly - he is an experienced premiership player.
Better then mata and turan and cheaper .

Hi all,
I totally agree that we will make only 2 or 3 new signings in Jan I honestly don't know enough about some of the players we are "linked" with and hope and pray that Roy is not selecting our targets really hope that the Kenny main scout rumour is true, but more importantly we need a new manager or for Roy to cop on to what players he has and use them properly our young players need competitive games under their belts I'm not saying 11 debutants on Sunday but bleed them in, we are only short 4 top quality players and if we get rid of the dead wood(not gonna name as there is too many) and use our excellent young players we'll surley challenge for top honours in the coming years, as for players that don't want to be at L.F.C sell them no one is bigger than Liverpool F.C. I'd hate to see Fernando leave as he is world class and there are not many world class strikers for sale in Jan to replace him. but if he wants to go so be it.
Ed what do you think? and have you heard anything about Torres wanting to leave?

Eric The Real Red

{Editor's Note: I don't want to see Liverpool change manager right now. As for Torres, if he wants to go then he must be allowed to leave.}

Ed, im goin to ask a very direct question here since u know awful lot bout liverpools transfer activity.
who exactly r we looking to get n wat is the chances of getting the targets. .
sory if tis causes any inconvenience. . hope u'll tell

{Editor's Note: It is not simply the case of looking at one particular player, particularly at this time of year. There are typically very few major movements in January due to European commitments, disruption from players leaving, clubs not wishing to sell etc.. Additionally, it would be very difficult to attract a players such as Mata even if Valencia were willing to sell. He is at the top of the Spanish league, playing werll and in the Champion's League.

Liverpool have also looked at many players and whilst they will no doubt strngthen, I expect probably a couple of players only. It is not possible to say who they might be this early on.}

Maybe I'm on my own in thinking this way but as good as torres is, if he wants to go then let him go. All the talk if who we should be buying because Torres would like to play along side him is nonsense. What if we but these players and then Torres goes? We need to build. Team of young players who want to pull in the red shirt of Liverpool and will give their all, I don't want players at our club who just want a wage or the kudos if playing for us. Let's give some of the young ones chance ie shelvey, Pacheco to name but two. These are our future so let's give them the chance to shine. What you think ed?

I don't wanna call anyone a liar but whoever said gerrard to barca, can you name your source?. I know this is a rumours site but surely you must have some rationale for this claim. even if you don't have a source at least state you reasons for thinking it as to just simply say player x is coming or going there is not really news is it. Why r we being linked wit ashley young wen torres really wants to play wit mata, mat is clearly miles beta den a.young, if we could'nt gt mata at least by turan, its clear tat he wants to play for liverpool n we need players who love liverpool to play for us.he is built for epl n kenny is promoting him SO WHY IS ROY STIL GOING 4 PLAYERS LIKE YOUNG? !
hes a good player but a totaly overpriced 1!

{Editor's Note: Being linked with a player does not mean that the club is interested at all. It is most unlikely that Mata would move to Liverpool in January.}

Very confident Keisuke Honda will sign in Jan. No sources, just a strong feeling I have. Would make sense. Young, versatile and would generate big money/ exposure for the club in Asia.
Not convinced on Hulk, although 13 goals from 13 competitive games for Porto so far this season is very impressive.
I personally believe our priorities need to be, left back, left wing, striker, right wing.
Doubt we'll bring in more then 2-3 players in Jan. Hopefully 2 wingers and a striker as I believe Roy will persist with Konchesky and Aurelio, who I'd play over Konchesky every day of the week.
Honda for the left, HOPEFULLY Alexis Sanchez for the right and let's be honest it won't be hard to get in a striker that'll be better then Ngog. I'd go for Llorente.
Of course Banega/ Schweingsteiger and Coentrao would be nice as well but just not going to can't see more then 2-3 coming in.

I think what Liverpool need to do is look into signing Mata. it was said last year that Rafa asked Torres who he wanted him to sign and the two main names said were Silva and Mata. Now obviously we can't sign Silva cos City got in there first. So sign Mata, it gives us a world class player and could be used as an incentive to get Torres to stay

Man City come out saying Roque Santa Cruz can leave. Now I, like the next person would love to see the likes of Aguero but in terms of value for money and a guarantee that he can succeed in the premiership due to his experience I think this would be a no brainer. He would also not necessarily have to move from where he is living so I can imagine him interested.

I agree with Ed that we won't spend loads this January, but it's important we go for qaulity. I would go for Pienaar & Elia (awesome) player. Also we need a striker so do we go for 1 or sell Torres & go for 2? Don't get me wrong, Torres is world class when he's fit, but that's the problem. Surely a partnership of Aguero & Benzema would be terrific. If we keep Torres then a player like Llorente would complement him. However, it looks like Torres could be off in the summer so why bother with a partner & just cash in now.

i think what i have seen of him Llorente can lead the line by himself but he is great header of a football so would need to good wingers to get crosses in to him

2 wingers sanchez and honda

sanchez (chile) south american break into that market become everybodys second team there

honda (japan) break into asian market big time

2 very very good players very marketable, young
would be perfect

i don't believe he will be bought to just complement torres

Tazz YNWA

can you post on rumours please ed great site keep up the good work wouldn't mind your input on the wingers i have choosen or which 2 you would pick??

This site is becoming something of a joke, i swear this week has been laughable! Is it because its half term and all you schoolkids are bored so have decided to post loads of nonsense on this beloved site? This site needs a system where only registered members can make posts, otherwise it turns into a laughing stock like it is at present. I reckon half the posters are mancs or schoolkids, if everyone registerd things could be monitored much better, then we could tell who the genuinie posters are and who all the p*sstakers and b*lls* tters are, sort it our ed ;)

p.s. If hodgson is allowed to spend our money then you can all stop dreaming about hazard, mata etc. .expect him to buy overpriced aged EPL rejects that he feels have experience. . Please let it be true that King Kenny is now in charge of scouting, Hodgson should not be allowed to buy anymore poulsons or koncheskys, he had his chance at buying players and enough is enough i say! {ed's note - not a chance that is going to happen, it takes a lot of time and effort and costs money to do. All you can do is keep an eye on the signatures on the posts and see who is talking rubbish and who isn't.}

Ricardo Quaresma could be on his way to Anfield. Quaresma who was once compared to Christanio Ronaldo and he can play as a right or left winger.
He has a valuation of about 8 million.

Could this be the kind of player LFC and NESV are looking for?

Ashley Young is also another winger that is strongly rumoured to be a future LFC player.
He has a valuation of 18 million.

Banega who many compare to Mascherano and Alonso will hopefully join for 12 million.

Gomez, who is higly rated in Germany wants a move away from his homeland. He is willing to run down his contract at Bayern Munich and he could be Liverpools for 12 million.

Llorente is also on Liverpools wish list. Llorente will cost Liverpool around 18 milllion so it is likely he won't be joining LFC.

Total cost: 50 million
Outs: Jovanovic -3 million
Insua- 4 million
Aqualani- 12 million
El zahar- 1 million
Net loss: 30 million.

Team line up:
- - - - - - - - -Reina- - - - - - - - -
- Johnson- Skertel- Agger- Konchesky-
- Quaresma- Gerrard- Banega- Young-
- - - - - Torres- - - - Gomez- - - - -

Subs: Jones, Kelly, Carragher, Kerigakos, Aurelio, Kuyt, Lucas, Poulsen, Meireles, Babel, Cole, Ngog.

What do u think ed? {ed's note - there is no way NESV would target Quaresma, he is one of those whose value is dropping.}

News from Spain is that Barcelona are looking to capture the signature of Steven Gerrard this coming January, and initial enquiries have not been rejected out of hand - However, Liverpool have already insisited that negotiations must include a certain Sergio Busquest, the 22 yr old Spanish midfielder, coming to Liverpool.

Apparently, Barca are desparate to land Gerrard and they are not too adverse to the idea, but the player himself would be very reluctant to move.

Carragher was the one who was texting Purslow about Rafa. Rafa saw that Carragher had become a liability and was gradually going to phase him out of the first team. He wasn't going to offer him a new contract either. Carragher went nuts and his Dad kicked off big time and started mouthing off at matches. Gerrard got in on the act as well and called Rafa a "Spanish tw*t" and said he bought "sh*t players". This was fuelled by Gerrard not willing to play where Rafa needed him in certain games and he kicked off. Over a few weeks Gerrard and Carragher conspired with Purslow to have Rafa removed from the club. Carragher also spoke with a couple of members of the press and 'leaked' the player unrest story. Now they have Roy Hodgson as manager and are undermining him and trying to be "the boss". There have been a number of meetings at NESV with regard to the club and its hierarchy. They removed Purslow as MD as they were bewildered and angered with his decision to award Carragher a 2 year contract extension. The idea is to phase out older players and invest in youth/ quality players (value for money). NESV are also dismayed at Roy Hodgson's managing style and methods. Quite simply they don't trust his judgement when signing players and have offered the 'scouting' role to Dalglish for now.

Reassuring statement from NESV about transfer speculation - "We intend to build on the strength of the current squad, not undermine it. And I can reassure our supporters that we have no intention of allowing the team to be weakened going forward."
I was worried that RH would be on total control of transfers, my fear in being he would go for Zomora and or C.Cole, Clint Dempsey and throw in a couple Scandinavian unknowns who are 'bargains' according to RH.

Liverpool are looking for (and need) a big strong striker to help out Torres and Hodgson has identified his man in the form of Newcastle forward Andy Carroll.

The owners were initially put off by the recent bad press surrounding the player and his well known 'attitude' issues, but Hodgson has convinced them he is the man for the job.

Looking at him this season to date, he does not look out of place in the premiership and has caused a lot of problems and scored a few as well.

By all accounts, he has a £15m release clause in his contract and, for his age, this could make him a very good buy, especially if Newcastle can talked into taking a player in part exchange - Babel, Poulsen spring to mind.

Personally, was hoping for an established 'world class' name, but would be happy if we landed him.
- - - - - - -

If Hodgson signs him he's signing his own death warrant. NESV would know that buying him would be suicide, they're trying to turn Liverpool into a worldwide successful brand and in doing that they to appeal to families and people in general. That means the new signings have to have the charisma, good looks and ability to sell shirts worldwide. Andy Carrol has none of those traits, he's allegedly a rapist so he's not going to help family-friendliness, he looks like a lanky hippy and that will be added onto the fact he can't sell enough shirts.

Plus he's not good enough. He hasnt scored against any world-class defences yet. {ed's note - I had to add the allegedly bit in for obvious reasons mate.}

Not a rumour as such, more a suggestion really!
Liverpool should look to sign Darijo Srna in January.
Out of contract next summer, wanting to leave the club, available on loan or for transfer, versatile, talented, good crosser of the ball, expert dead ball delivery and able to play right back or right midfield.
Srna would hopefully link up well with Johnson, with both being able to swap positions and cover each other going forward.

@Liverpool Rumours 29 Oct 2010 11:03:48 "Liverpool Rumours Ed: what do you think drenthe he's good right {ed's note - he is a good player, but there has to be a reason why he could never get near the Madrid side. I would want to know more about him before I considered signing him.}- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -Drenthe apparently has a bit of an attititude prblem like many Dutch players. I also remember Drenthe and Gerrard having a bit of fisticuffs in a pre season friendly against Feyenoord 2-3 years ago. {ed's note - has to be a bit more than a bit of attitude there, Madrid were bereft of left sided player for a while and he never got games. I don't really care about the fight with Gerrard, he probably just refused to change song on his i-pod or something ;o)}"

Drenthe can play anywhere on the left from Left Wing, Left Mid, through Left-Wing Back to Left Back. He isn't brilliant in any of those positions but is competent in all of them (most of the time). As a result he fits in in any tactical formation you can think of. Because of his flexibility and the way Rafa operated he was on Rafa's target list for 2-3 years at least but he never managed to land him. I don't think he would still be on Liverpool's radar anymore as the previous interest was all down to Rafa. If he goes anywhere it will be to Italy. To Rafa probably.

If we can sell torres for £50m wud you sell him and then add £10m and buy 2 £30m strikers or not
bel - yes
unbel - no

I here what you are saying but the reason I opted for 'no' is because Liverpool have had trouble in the past in finding strikers that work in the epl. Torres is the first one we have had that has made any significant impact since the likes of fowler and Owen who were home grown. I don't think there is any 30 million pound strikers in the prem that we could possibly buy and even then there is no gaurantee they would fit in at our club and there is also a risk in buying strikers untesteted in the prem. you have a better chance of finding one that can cope with the prem than two and then there is the settling in period. I would rather keep the one that we know works and is prob the best in the world and help him by buying another one that would compliment him. Infact I think we could do with two that compliment him and hopefully some of youth will come good and we can have a real strike force for the frist time in so many years i care to forget.

Not going to work really. If we did that I would like a winger and a striker. Liverpool couldn't attract 30 million value players anyway. If we're going to sell torres I would take more them 50 million. Look at Rooney. Less quality player going for around 50 - 60 million with 18 month contract. I would take 60 million for torres.

Got a question for anyone. If man city came calling and offered 40 million + Adam Johnson would you accept it?

The NESV principal owner's comments follow a hands-off warning issued yesterday by Roy Hodgson with regards the future of Pepe Reina.

Henry said: "We have recently read stories about our intentions for the forthcoming January transfer window and have a sense of humour about this type of inevitable speculation.

"As everyone knows we are new to English football, but not to sport, and we are studying all options. Opportunities and value will drive spending in January and in the future.

"Our clear focus from day one of our ownership has been - and will be - to improve the club and focus on what it will take to put Liverpool FC consistently in a position to challenge for trophies.

"We intend to build this club the right way.

"Stories about our top players leaving are destructive and unwarranted but we realise that this kind of speculation is also common.

"We intend to build on the strength of the current squad, not undermine it. And I can reassure our supporters that we have no intention of allowing the team to be weakened going forward."

All this comes on a day when Hodgson outlined his plans to improve the squad in January and insisted the club could still attract top stars from around the world.

News from the States - Guess who is coming to Liverpool - Mr David Beckham!

Hope it is not true, but I have heard the new owners see him as the perfect figurehead to raise the profile of Liverpool in the states - He is extremely popular in the USA and has the image, looks etc.

I agree we DO NOT need anymore defenders otha den a quality LB as we already have agger/ carra/ skrtel/ the greek/ ayala/ wilson/ wisdom/ coady/ johnson/ kelly/ darby that's 11 players and only 3 postion, as for a LB we need eitha taiwo or gibbs both young and can attack BUT also defend. as for WINGERS we need a.young/ a.sanchez both young and both hug the touchline wich we have missed since barnes and macca, and the striker we need is sumone that can hold the ball up well/ score goals/ play with torres(not many can) and needs to be clever so we need aguero/ keane/ hulk/ benzema

wot u fink ed? {ed's note - I would rather not go near Young or Keane, neither are good enough in my opinion.}

Its hilarious all the names being bandied around on here, we will not sign any world class players, we are not an attractive proposition for any world class players and if that clown Hodgson is still in charge in January we will be saying goodbye to the few world class players we have.We have to accept the fact that the glory days are long gone, there are many teams in the Premiership who are far superior to ours, the new board have to be bold and brave and make the big decisions.We need a complete overhaul starting from
Mr Hodgson, it scares me to think who he may buy in January. . . . . .mid table mediocrity beckons for a few seasons to come i fear.

To whoever wrote:
'Its the hulk from porto were bidding for mate. don't know how much, i heard £12m plus ryan babel i hope its true as he wud be the ideal partner for torres'

You are absolutely spot on - I have a very good friend in live in Portugal and is an FC Porto season ticket holder - The Hulk was involved in an incident in the tunnel last year, where he knocked out a reported (apparently it was all caught in CCTV etc) and was banned from playing for a few months by the Portugese FA - Since then, he has been looking for a move as he feels we was treated very unfairly.

My friend has reported that a number of offers were made for him in the summer (from Italy and Spain), but he has set his heart on playing in the EPL, as he feels his style is very much suited to England and he has openly named Liverpool as a club he would love to play for.

Porto are interested in Babel (for some reason) and are also interested in Agger, so either could be used in the deal - The fee (without any player exchange) is being muted as £18m, so with either player, probably bring this down to £12m.

Not seen the guy play too often myself, but my friend says he is better then Tevez and would be perfect for the reds - Quick, strong and a reasonable goal scoring record plus fits the new owners criteria (only 24yrs old and will not demand a huge wage)

Drenthe apparently has a bit of an attititude prblem like many Dutch players. I also remember Drenthe and Gerrard having a bit of fisticuffs in a pre season friendly against Feyenoord 2-3 years ago. {ed's note - has to be a bit more than a bit of attitude there, Madrid were bereft of left sided player for a while and he never got games. I don't really care about the fight with Gerrard, he probably just refused to change song on his i-pod or something ;o)}

If were were to bid for Hulk, it makes sense for a number of reasons, not only on the field:

1. He is a top player with skill and the build to handle the toughness of the Premier League
2. He has potential "cult figure" status which potentially leads to
3. Shirt sales / marketibility

I for one think he would be a good foil for Torres and obviously we have a decent working relationship with Porto after signing Raul in Summer, who hopefully is in contact with Hulk as well.

Ed, according to ssn, Diego Maradonna wants to manage in the premier league.

Argie's played good attacking footie in WC.

BUT seeing as he has little experience as a manager i can't see it happening for us anyway?

Imagine the players he could attract to LFC?

What are your thoughts ed?

I've added 73 to end of my sign off as there seem to be two Lee's. {ed's note - he was a disaster in club management in the past, but he seemed to get the Argies playing well in the summer. It would certainly make us worth watching once more!}

News this morning coming from the big man roy himself is that there will be alot of money spent in the next year on transfers.
He states about buying £20 million players! !
He also slags of jovanovic big time. . so sdon't be surprised if he is sold in january (thank god)
I think this is brilliant news.
Source: www.lfc.tv

In my opinion, i think we should look at getting exciting, talented players in.
I do not think the likes of SWP, Bent, Carlton Cole etc are good enough for where we want to be. They would improve our team but are not players who would allow us to challenge for the title.
I would love to see us sign players like: -
Mata, Banega, Arda Turan, Llorente, Coentrao, Elia.
These players are young and have bags of talent.
Priority positions for january window are:
Right midfield
Striker
Then in the summer:
Left Back
Centre back
Centre midfield

All in all though these are exciting times at liverpool. .

RH saying he wants to spend in jan, but will not be held to ransom, also that he thinks the squad has lots of exspensive failures and want to be attracting the players that Barcelona, Real Madrid and Inter are chasing and that if we go out and spend £20m, we are getting a £20m player.
So this sounds like he will be willing to spend high on high quality. So hopefully a world class striker and winger like Suarez and Bastos or Llorente and Coentrao, aswell as another winger a CM, a LB/ CB

Right seeing as there's nothing in the news about our club and everything is quite boring at the mo I have decided to put a realistic January transfer wish list thingey and squad thingey you are all welcome to slag me off and say I am mad, I don't care just bored with the whole Mgr situation or lack of. . . .

Ins:
HAZARD 18M this seasons must have
YOUNG 15M English Bla Bla Bla but I do rate him
AFELLAY 10M Can play on the right lovely jubly
DEFOUR 12M Every one seems to be going on about him
TAIWO 5M Likened to Riise enough said
Lukaku 25M Before every one jumps up and down I don't think he will move any where till next summer anyway so what the hell? We might as well have a go at signing him?

Without Lukaku that's 60M on young excellent talent all of which are quite cheap (except Hazard). Obviously NESV aren't going to splash £60M so we will have to off load some of the dross to accommodate this extravaganza.

Outs: (Where do we start)

Babel 9M WOW I'm hoping! (maybe a part exchange?)
Lucas 12M Theirs bound to be an ITI club that will have him?
Aqualani 13M maybe next summer?
Insua 5M again maybe next summer
Degen 1M hopefully?
Paulson 5M My God he has got to go! ! !
Jova 4M Sorry mate you tried. . . .
Intandje 1M anywhere?
Maxi 5M Too old etc. etc.

This is only rough estimate but say around 55M if we are lucky also slashing the wage bill, which I believe is NESV's intention. So with the ins and outs I feel it would be sustainable and affordable. Our squad would look something like this, baring Lukaku (which I have already stated above, maybe in the summer but there's no harm in trying)

- - - - - - - - - -TORRES- - HAZARD- - - - - - - - - - - - - -
- - - - - - - - - -LUKAKU- - PACHECO- - - - - - - - - - - - -

YOUNG- - - - - SHELVEY- -GERRARD- - - - - - AFELLAY
COLE- - - - - - DEFOUR- - MARIELES- - - - - -KUYT- -

TAIWO- - - - - AGGER- - - CARRAGHER- - - -JOHNSON
KONCHESKY- - SKRTEL- - - WILSON- - - - - -KELLY- -

- - - - - - - - - - - - -REINER- - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
- - - - - - - - - - - - -JONES- - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Do you think this is the squad NESV are looking for? Obviously I can't see any of them coming with Roy in charge, you may disagree but that's just my personal view, maybe with a more fashionable Mgr (which is quite sad but I think that's the way of football these days) like Rijkard they may flock to us but we are facing some stiff competition from other Big clubs for there signatures but who knows, in my fantasy world this is what I would do this Jan with Lukaku coming in the summer, whats your views?

I believe it hits NESV's criteria, affordable, young with a sell on value and the football will be pleasing on the eye, easier to market.

For all the money being banded about:

Bastian Shweinsteiger is available to sign a pre-contract in January for any team as his current deal ends in the summer, therefore any team agreeing this pre contract will get him for free in the summer.

Roy or NESV if you ever read these then get the deal done. This is the type of talent we need.

Don't know if this is true or not, but I heard a rumour from an AA Gent fan I speak to on Facebook that Steven Defour was wanting to join Liverpool ahead of anyone else because he wanted to play with Gerrard, and loved the Anfield atmosphere when he played there.

Apparantly he asked Milan Jovanovic about us and Jovanovic told him not to join the club as he will rot on the bench and he also said that the club are a mess and would ruin his career.

Like I said, don't know if this is true but if it is its extremly disrespectful and displays sour grapes from a player who can't get into our team.

Ed, or Eds, if you could give a percentage figure on Roy hodgsons departure by the end of the season/ summer, what would it be?and who do you reckon would be the candidates for the job if so? there's not alot on the market right now, can we attract a top manager from another top club in?I'm not so sure, I doubt we could get guardiola unless his arguements with Barcelona become greater, he would fit the bill, marketable, young handsome man who plays attractive football( hard not to with the array of talent at his exposure)

{Editor's Note: Thgis is impossible to do as we have to see how results go between now and Christmas and then between Christmas and the end of the season. If and when he does leave, it will very much depend who is available at that time.}

The forward made a good start to his Lyon career, however injuries have unsettled his time in France, and despite being fully fit for some time, he has fallen out of favour at the Stade Gerland with Jimmy Briand the prefered option.

Lopez has an impressive goals to minutes ratio in France, but he is unhappy at the lack of starts and is now looking for pastures new, in either Italy or England.

Liverpool are said to be very interested in the forward, but face stiff competition from Premier League rivals Tottenham. Juventus are also keen on the striker.

Lopez was made available in the Summer for around 23m Euros (£20m) but many were put off by his price-tag. Lyon are keen to retian much of the 28m Euros (£24.5m) they paid for him, but may have to settle for around 17m Euros (£15m) to get him and his hefty wages off their books. As it stands, Juventus are the favourites to sign him.

Judging the way NESV conducted their selves before and during the takeover in a professional and proper manor, i feel that all business dealings present and future regarding, players, staff, manager, ground etc, etc will be dealt with in a similar way, in strictest confidence so they do not give the fans any false hopes or promises, and not to give the gutter press chance to start chinese whispers. i do not think they like to deal in if's, but's and maybe's, instead it will be yes we will or no we will not. all the time it is quiet i think we can be assured that NESV are working hard to make the liverbird rise from the ashes once more, and in time we will be back at the top of the EPL, where we belong.
what do you think about this quiet period ED? {ed's note - I am happy for things to be done behind the scenes and the 'Liverpool way'. I hated seeing the club wash its dirty linen in public, the gutter press will still spread their lies though, no matter what the club does.}

Liverpool will sign 5 players in January and 4 players leaving. Unfortunately, Daniel Agger will probably leave as he is unhappy with Hodgson's style of play. He will be replaced with Philipe Mexes from Roma who has recently handed in a transfer request.
2nd player to leave is Maxi Rodriguez. Hasn't really coped with the pace and physicality of the Premier League and will be replaced with Ibrahim Affelay.
3rd player to leave is Milan Jovanovic. Also unhappy with Hodgson and will probably return to Standard Liege in exchange with cash to try and tie up a deal for Steven Defour. The signing of Defour is the only deal that potentially won't happen.
Jovanovic's replacement will be Juan Manuel Mata. Valencia are strapped for cash and really need to find funds so will reluctantly cash in on Mata.
The 5th and final signing will be a striker. Hodgson has many targets but is yet to identify the plater has wants most.

Having no money to spend is a load if rubbish. NESV like to do things quietly. They were in takeover talks for nearly 3 months without people knowing. Let them do their work and Keep the faith.

ED, , tell us all who would you like to see after january at liverpool and what ur team would be and formation! !

{Editor's Note: You will appreciate that I do not have the time to replay in detail. I would like to see Sylvain Marveaux at the club because he can bring something to midfield that is missing.}

Ryan babel is staying at LFC.
It has been recognised that Babel cannot play at a high level for LFC due to the style of football being played at the club.
NESV have idenified the LFC midfield as the area in much need of improvement.
Quaresma and Young will join as these players will provide attacking flare and their prices are within LFC range, especially Quaresma who's form has dipped in recent years.
Banega is also a possibility who will be used to replace Mascherano.
Young will provide competition for Babel. Babel will become second choice.
Llorente will be also a hopefull signing for LFC. Llorente is spainish and LFC want to maintain a strong spainish influence since the departure of Arbeloa and Alonso.

Ins: Quaresma- 14m
Young- 18m
Llorente- 21m
Banega- 12m

Total-65m

Team line up:

- - - - - - - - Reina- - - - - - - - -
- Johnson- Skertel- Agger- Konchesky-
- Quaresma- Gerrard- Banega- Young-
- - - - - Torres- - - - Llorente- - - -

Bench: Jones, Carragher, Kerigakos, Aurelio, Poulsen, Meireles, Lucas, Babel, Cole, Kuyt, Ngog.

A strong team with dept with a good impact bench.

what bout joe cole, , u think wed pay 90k per week for him to stay on the bench, , , and u thik hed stay if he wa salways benched i don't think so, , , , and cole i think is picking up now, ,

We need 2 people neymar 18 and marin 21
neymar is amazing and would relieve pressure off torres and marin every time i watch i think of messi.

{Editor's Note: Neymar is I am afraid not an option. There is also a risk that he might turn out too lightweight for the EPL>}

Ed,
Do you think we will sign a decent striker who will play well for us and if so do you have any ideas on which striker we might buy and i think Llorente could attract attention from rich clubs so instead of wasting our time in an auction for him do you think we should buy someone like Honda or Szalai and i think Honda would be our best option what about you?

{Editor's Note: Honda is not an out and out striker. There will be options there but January will be consolidation. It is difficult to buy at that time of year as well.}
