Is Liverpool going for kolibali of Napoli this transfer window?

No. Out of reach financially and zero interest. Diego Carlos is the CB Klopp wants but we need to sell to raise funds.

Of course not.

29 years old, £90m asking price? I think this one answers itself.

IF we can commit to that spend, I'd much rather it be used in other areas of the team.

Kolibali sounds like an exquisite Indonesian dish.

People are going on like at 29 (just turned too) he’s over the hill. He’s the same age as VVD (29 soon) and seems to be in the peak of his career.
Don’t get me wrong I don’t think we need him, and probably can’t afford him but if I was City I would be making serious moves for him and think he transforms them.

I agree that 29 isn’t over the hill, however, no one in their right mind would pay £90m for a player that age who’s had a season blighted by injury.

90m is crazy but I’ve always liked Koulibaly and if we get get him in a swap for Lovren going the other way, and at a more reasonable rate, t would be a coup.

{Ed002's Note - I would not hold your breath.}

plus the fact that Salah rinsed him at Anfield.

Koulibaly won't happen, Klopp will pull something off like sell Lovren and pluck someone from one of the relegated teams and turn them into a world beater.

Issa Diop
Nathan Ake

Jump out as a couple who could be obtained if there current clubs do make the drop I would imagine.

Before anyone jumps im not suggesting they are the same level of player just more realistic buys.

jkh, we do have a habit of picking up the best players for relegated teams and them doing reasonably well, so it’s not out the question that we’d look at either of those.

Is Nathan ake a viable option. Definitely worth a shout. Age wise and prem experience. But with the names being pulled about it looks like we are looking for a big build centre half to pair with vvd. Also ake i personally think is probably on the same level as gomez so wouldn't make sense at all.

Don't see the fuss over Ake myself. Granted he plays for a manager who's not known for organising a defence but still never seen anything in him.

Bledd85, Ake would be a massive improvement on Lovren as 4th choice CB and he is a very capable left back.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - do you really think so? He is an awful defender who doesn't want to play at the back anyway. Not worth considering imo. I would rather see Hoever or Sepp as 4th choice if that is the option.}

29 Jun 2020 20:36:07
I think it’s just desperation to replace Lovren as he’s an accident waiting to happen. But I’d happily see Hoever as 4th choice as he’s looked capable when he stepped up. All I do know is that I’d rather Gomez be the first alongside VVD as first choice than either Koulibaly or Carlos.

Ake makes zero sense. 30M for any player that will struggle to get minutes makes little sense. Plus, the things that Lovren does that drives you all mad would be taken to another level by Ake.

Take your point there Ed1 doesn't Ake play in the national team with VVD i know MDL is the main cb with VVD but I think he's in the squad isn't he normally? I do agree on Hoover btw i think he can be great.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - in the 6 qualifiers he sat on the bench for 3 and played CB the others, but 2 of them he only came on for the dying embers of the games. Basically he is a back up for his country. The problem he has as a centre-back for both country and if he was ours is that he is left-sided, where VVD plays. Not a chance he plays instead of Virgil, so he would only be cover for Virgil and Robbo, at best. A very expensive cover option, as he would not be cheap, Bournemouth have their very own Abramovich backing them, so don't need to sell cheap.}

Hi ed002,

Hope you’re well.

I was wandering, with Liverpool winning the Champions League last season and the Premier League this season, which players we have signed included additional extras in transfer deals for these accolades. If so, Financially does the money being payed out for winning the competitions cover that to those players previous clubs. Thanks AH.

Believable1 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - Many and even most players are signed with such caveats and the costs would all be covered by the CL win. The PL win would not cover the payments needing to be made.}

Question for the Eds, seeing a lot of links to Traore which could be plausible, but obviously we have just backed out of signing Werner for around the same amount of money. One detail that astonished me was the amount of money that Werner is reportedly going to be earning at Chelsea, which is more than salah and van dijk and would have been inconceivable at LFC. Do you think that it was a purely transfer fee related issue, or was it more Werners demands both financially and in terms of game time that made the deal implausible?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I have no idea what Chelsea will be paying Werner I am afraid. Liverpool have financial issues as has been explained repeatedly - even Peter Moore issued a statement to the fans. Liverpool did not try and negotiate the transfer with RBL.}

28 Jun 2020 20:56:27
Hi Ed. was it the fact that they had to pay upfront to activate the buy out clause whereas if they did buy traore for 70m they may be able to pay circa 17m for 4 yrs. which is more affordable?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - I have no idea what you mean. Liverpool illegally tapped the player up and they did not speak to his club. In addition to what I have said, the Chief Executive has explained the money situation at Liverpool.}
