Hello Eds and Reds,

I read reports that Liverpool will be looking for a first team right back next season. Gomez is a first team centre back, Fabinho is a first team defensive midfielder and Alexander-Arnold apparently wants to compete with Fabinho in that midfield role, as well as compete at right back. Due to this, Liverpool have been looking at Aaron Wan -Bissaka as our first team right back. Also links with Ryan Sessegnon who can cover Mane / Salah as well as Robertson in our first team. What do you think Eds, are these likely targets for Liverpool in the summer? We do need replacements for Clyne and Moreno, or could we rely on academy players to cover our first team?

Believable1 Unbelievable5

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool has shown no interest in Wan-Bissaka although they have previously shown an interest in Sessegnon - but they aren’t right now.}

28 Apr 2019 20:09:57
Fabinho and Trent wouldn’t play the same role?

Are Liverpool looking at any other right backs then, Ed? I see great potential in Trent Alexander-Arnold going into midfield and the rumours of a right back coming in make sense with Clyne leaving.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - RB is a difficult position for Liverpool to address unless TAA is moved to midfield (as Ed001 tells me is the plan) and a new first team player arrives - although finding space for TAA in midfield still looks tough to me. There is no natural RB in the U23s who can step up, or so I am told, but we also know that Gomez can provide cover as well. In terms of who the club has looked at, I can only say that I am aware of one player, but no doubt there will be others:
Kenny Lala (RB/RM) only just signed a new contract Racing Strasbourg but has been looked at by the club - not sure if he would be available
If you were to ask me who I think is a viable option but the club has shown no interest in, I would say Valentino Lazaro (RM/RW/RB) who would be a great fix for providing cover for the whole right hand side.

Always worth keeping an eye on max Aaron’s.

{Ed002's Note - There is interest from elsewhere.}

28 Apr 2019 20:46:31
Thank you for that Ed.

Tell me more Ed please.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - This isn’t the place - trolling the posts here to keep bringing up his name is wasting everyone’s efforts.}

28 Apr 2019 21:37:44
Theory of relativity Ed, it worked with Salah a few years back.

My first preference would be to use TAA and Robbo again at FB next season and ask Milner to provide cover, as that would allow Adam Lewis to step up too.

Failing Milner being willing to play that role, we should go for another FB to rotate with TAA and Robbo, as they play arguably the most demanding position on the pitch and have had little opportunity to rest given the lack of options this year.

Gomez should remain choice RCB, Fabinho first choice DM, and I agree with Ed that I don’t see any need for TAA in midfield right now given our strength in that area.

Agree2 Disagree1

29 Apr 2019 09:25:58
I really don't understand why we would want to move TAA to midfield.

He's been fantastic at RB (youngest in the PFA TOTY I think) and the way Klopp has his team play, fullbacks are critical.

Would rather get an upgrade on the likes of Lallana and Sturridge to challenge for a first first team place than try to fix what's not broken.

Agree3 Disagree2

{Ed001's Note - because he can't defend and was so good in midfield as a youngster that he got a shot in the first team in the first place. Jamie Carragher played initially in midfield then dropped back into defence. Gerrard started off in defence in the first team then moved into midfield. You can go through a thousand players and find a very large percentage that debut in one role and spend most of their careers in a different one once established as a first teamer. Kolo Toure made his early Arsenal appearances as a winger.}

29 Apr 2019 09:35:35
Just my opinion but I, like you Ed, feel that Trent should remain at right back. If he can work on the defensive side of his game he can really master that position.

That being said, Ed01 has a fantastic understanding of the game as well and if he believes trent can become a quality midfielder then I'm also open to the move.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - It will be interesting to see what happens. If the club were to look to a formation where there is a regular AM player in the team, then that limits the number of other midfield players to two.}

29 Apr 2019 10:34:34
Thanks for the reply Ed. It will definitely be interesting. I guess Fabinho was a rb initially and look how he has turned out.
I think definitely for the short term, trent should remain at rb and really work on the defensive side of his game. In the long term, I can see him being similar to Milner in terms of being able to play multiple positions. Either way he is an exciting talent and correct me if I'm wrong, he's also a scouser?

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - yes mate, that is exactly how I see it. He is at right-back to gain a new perspective on the game, which is common for youngsters in their early career. Sometimes they end up staying there for a large portion of their career, but I don't think Trent is being made the most out of being there. He is too good on the ball and it is a waste of his talents to play wide.}

29 Apr 2019 10:39:52
I would be made up with Lala he looks a great player and if he could adapt to the premier league would be a good signing if we were to go for him!

Agree1 Disagree0

29 Apr 2019 11:00:46
I agree Ed, his technique and passing range is excellent and long term he is waisted at rb. I'm excited to see how he progresses.

Agree0 Disagree0

29 Apr 2019 11:07:31
I’ve not seen TAA in midfield but he strikes me in style and physically as being akin to a Wijnaldum-type player, that perpetual motion?
It will certainly be interesting to see how the Summer plays out with the plan for RB.
If Liverpool were to sign a first team-ready right back (and Wan-Bissaka would be perfect though likely won’t happen), then Trent goes from playing every week to a very competitive rotation in midfield.

29 Apr 2019 12:54:54
Hi Ed, you said above you had been told There is no natural RB in the U23s who can step up. But what about Ki-Jana Hoever? is he just not seen as ready yet, or is it because RB isn't his natural position?

I know he is only 17, but from what I've seen / read he looks a real talent!

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - He is a child so cannot train as long as the adults; he is not a RB and he is not ready for the first team. His time will come.}

29 Apr 2019 13:26:41
I'm with Edd, he gets exposed by anyone with a bit of pace and power. His qualities playing RB is all offensive, his crossing is something a box to box right sided player can do as well.

I would have him compete with a 1st team RB and CM, i. e take Lallana's role. So essentially a back up CM and RB.

A friend as told me Liverpool are looking at a Croatian kid Bradaric as a replacement for Moreno. I have read that Barcalona and Ajax are interested in him, but can't see any interest from us.
My friend does give some good info at times and he says we have scouted him on a few occasions this yr.
I suppose he will end up at Barcalona, but we are very much after cover for Robertson.

Believable2 Unbelievable6

{Ed002's Note - He won't end up in Barcelona.}

28 Apr 2019 12:17:38
I’m really hoping that we give the opportunity to one of our youth players.

28 Apr 2019 12:35:58
If we do i think Larouci is quickly catching up on Lewis. doesn't have Lewis's delivery but is better defensively, quicker and more Athletic.

Agree5 Disagree0

28 Apr 2019 13:17:55
Agreed Little Naby. Larruci has impressed me everytime I've watched him this season. Especially in new role. He is quick, strong, and very direct. If he can keep improving he could be a really good player.

Agree6 Disagree0

28 Apr 2019 13:22:23
From the little I've seen of Larouci he looks a good player, started as a winger I believe, and can't really comment on his defensive play, but has good link up play and gets in good positions going forward, is he well regarded within the club does anyone know?

Agree2 Disagree0

28 Apr 2019 13:52:57
Hard to tell, he only went to leftback this season. Up till then he was just on the fringes really but he's been Liverpools best player in the few games i've caught them this year so i'd say Klopps staff are taking notice.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - If Liverpool were to look at a player like this it would mean Adam Lewis would have to consider moving on.}

28 Apr 2019 13:58:59
He is very well regarded by the club and is one of the standouts along side Duncan, Williams and Glatzel.

Agree2 Disagree0

28 Apr 2019 14:18:52
He may have to Ed 002 because this kid is making serious ground up on Lewis. competition is good for them at that age anyway, they should be striving away everyday to be the best of the young players.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - That is a very naive view about the reality of it all. The reaon Liverpool may well lose the likes of Adekanye, Kent, possibly Wilson, Ojo etc. is because they cannot see chances at Liverpool.}

28 Apr 2019 14:38:03
Because they’re clearly not good enough for the level we are at the moment. Could you see any of them names getting a chance at City? You have to be seriously good to even make the match squad as a youngster. If your not good enough move them on.

Agree10 Disagree1

28 Apr 2019 14:46:07
Im not saying go out and buy a £30-40m back up to Robertson. im saying let the two best young leftbacks in the club push each other on and fight for that position in the squad. If a young player at an elite club like Liverpool doesn't realise that THE VERY LEAST he has to be is the best young player in his position at the club well then he doesn't belong here.

Agree8 Disagree1

28 Apr 2019 14:47:19
Liverpool aren't losing Ojo, Kent and Adekanye. they simply aren't good enough.

Agree10 Disagree0

28 Apr 2019 15:42:59
Maybe we should loan them out for another 5 years till we have 80 players out on loan? If they were good enough they'd get their chance and whilst eventually they might be for now they aren't close enough to consider playing them, losing them is no lose to LFC as they aren't even squad players and wouldn't even need replacing. We have 10 Ryan Kents in the making what we need is the next sterling or trent those that are on the level above Kent, adekanye, ojo etc.

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - And Wilson?}

28 Apr 2019 16:19:03
Look Ed 002 is simply wrong on this one. if Klopp thinks a youth player is the better option than signing a player then he'll go with the youth player. Liverpool is probably the best club out off all the top clubs in England for leaving a pathway for top young youths to come through. For example i don't think we'll sign a back up to trent i think Jana Hoever will get an opportunity with Gomez also able to cover. To say Lewis would have to move on if Liverpool also considered giving Larouci a chance is crazy. Its Hardly putting Chilwell in his way is it.

Agree6 Disagree1

28 Apr 2019 16:37:35
I think Wilson is at his level too Ed he's a very good free kick taker who's not developed physically in a way that could make him a viable option in the Premier league. He's not suited to our style of play either he still can't be trusted defensively or in transitions and he's not good enough dribbling or in positioning of his body to protect the ball in a way that similarly small players do. I would happily sell for £20m or happily loan him out to see if he can learn these things if suggest he needs to go to a very good coach eg not a lampard or gerrard but perhaps a hodgeson or rodgers could bring something extra out of him in a league that would give him a chance to prove his ability. What do you think specifically on Wilson Ed?

Agree1 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - He has no future at Liverpool.}

28 Apr 2019 17:22:43
Ed002, not sure if you realise larouchi is already a Liverpool player. It would be great to see Lewis get a shot but if larouchi is the better option then he surely gets the nod. I have no idea who the better player is but it would be great for one of them to promote from within.

Agree3 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - The post was about Bradaric.}

28 Apr 2019 17:30:52
Fair enough, I thought it had moved on to larouchi fighting Lewis for that back up spot in the first team.

Agree1 Disagree0

29 Apr 2019 09:57:51
We are heading into territory where we competing with the probably the most expensive clubs ever assembled in the Premier League.
Yes, youngsters must be given ca chance but in the Carabao Cup, FA cup and the like. Not League and Champs League, unless 1st and 2nd choice are injured in whatever position.
I watched the under 18's FA Cup final and the boys are good but they haven't caused Critchley to move them up to under 23 yet because they are just not there yet. How on earth will they compete with the senior squad?
Im of the opinion that we need competitive back up for the positions we are lacking in.
Please explain id Moreno is on his way, and if Adam Lewis is so good, why is he not on the bench?
This time around, with owners who back the Klopp (liar or not), we need to invest in proper players because i keep hearing how good Trent is for example and yet his our weakest defender. Yeah he has a lot of assists because he attacks well and has improved but his not going to turn into Steve Finnan or Rob Nicol. I agree his young but his had a full 2 seasons in that RB role and when we play Sane and Neymar and the like, i get worried.
Not saying we need marque signings and youth is a big no especially with where we are heading as a team but we need proper investment.

Agree0 Disagree3

29 Apr 2019 10:32:07
Name me a rightback in the world we could buy who you wouldn't worry about going up against Sanè and Neymar. Trents only 20 and he's already put manners on the two of them.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - Wan-Bissaka. He is the best one-on-one defender in the modern game.}

29 Apr 2019 11:21:39
I agree he's good Ed, but whether he's a dickhead or not the fact is Neymar is going to go past any rightfull at least a couple of times a game, as would Sanè. People should look at what Trent does brilliantly instead of highlighting the faults. As he matures the defensive side of his game will improve.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - you are completely missing the point. All his faults are the things needed at fullback. All the things he does brilliantly would be more useful in midfield. As for what Neymar and Sane do, I am not getting into that as you're analysis is far too simplistic to make it worthwhile discussing.}

29 Apr 2019 12:09:32
Its a simple game made complicated by idiots! 😉🤣.

Agree0 Disagree0

30 Apr 2019 07:20:41
Seen wilson a few times at Derby this season and trust me he has no chance of getting close to the first team at Liverpool, a few good long range efforts mask a very average player in my opinion.

Good morning Ed's,

Do you have any news on our status on DeLigt, and what the possibility if for the Dutchman to join us in the summer? Thanks in advance.

Believable1 Unbelievable4

{Ed002's Note - There is no Liverpool status on Matthijs de Ligt and he won't be joining Liverpool I am afraid.}

28 Apr 2019 10:30:52
Don’t feel sorry Redlad.
Gomez is the better player, imho, and certainly quicker.

Agree9 Disagree4

28 Apr 2019 11:55:42
You have to be realistic Redlad, it would mean either de ligt or Gomez sitting on the bench that is never going to happen. It is the same reason why we won't buy £100m forwards as it would mean they or Firmino would be benched.

It is going to be very hard to find players in the summer because our first 11 is now so much better. I expect 2 back up defenders who can push for starts and a player like Brandt who would offer something different. Modric though would be my first choice but doesn't seem much chance.
