ED002, seen a recent rumour about Dybala "a person of interest as he will be out of contract in summer" is this anything you have heard my friend?

{Ed002's Note - No and I would have expected Liverpool to look to younger options.}

As always Ed appreciate your response. šŸ‘.

Even if heā€™s free heā€™s to expensive for us šŸ¤£.

Thatā€™s cos you are mistaking ā€˜freeā€™ for ā€˜no transfer feeā€™ Jay - a mistake that has been made before šŸ˜‰.

Its like when phone companies tell you you are getting a free upgrade, which actually means if you take the new handset, your bill will be 3 times what it is if you go sim only.

Fair enough there's the signing on fee but doesn't a player still under contract ALSO get a signing on fee when they move to a new club?

They do, but it's usually not as big Jadon. If a player and agent know you aren't paying Ā£40m for him, they're liable to look for a larger signing on fee because without the transfer fee, you can afford it.

And if you don't pay it, someone else will.

The issue imo isn't that 'we can't afford him lol', the issue for me is that if we want to throw big money at a player in his late 20s, there are players at the club who already fit that description and are out of contract in less than 18 months.

If we're going to part company with one or two of those, surely we should look for a younger player, rather than one, who as good as he is, won't have any more years left in him than the guys we already have?

I get that, and as i say i wasnt talking about Dybala in particular. But we are Liverpool, im sure we can afford free transfers signing on fee or not, if its someone Klopp actually wants.

I'd say this is a dubious link. If it's serious then it shows we're moving away from our tried and tested model and towards something short term and desperate.

It does kind of make sense to try and sign a mature player. I think itā€™s important to add that 28 year old is not past it and worthy of a contact.

We did this Thiago. Sadly it hasnā€™t worked out that well but it shows that the transfers seem to be a mixture of youth and experience.

Itā€™s logical that the club brings in some slightly older players going forward as the team will loose several senior players due to age and that the majority some will be replaced with likes of Gordon, Elliot. With jones already starting to cement a slot.
There is a need to ensure that there remains some experience running through the team. Someone like dyabala makes sense to me. Wether itā€™s going to happen is another matter šŸ¤£.

There are fewer and fewer sides able to match such demands for ageing, injury prone 'stars'. PSG are becoming a graveyard for such players, along with Bosmans who want a big pay day.
I'd rather have the FSG model any day than working like that.
Who's left for Dybala? City? PSG. OR move to the footballing morgue, China or the middle east where money talks.
I am so glad to not even care for such players anymore. Those days are long gone.

Every day there seems to be new names added to the list of signings we will make either now or in the Summer. Most, if not all of them 'clickbait'.

I prefer to wait until any signings are confirmed, but if everybody did that these pages wouldn't be nearly as much fun!

For me, no ins this month (only 4 days left) .

Ed002 it's being reported that we've made contact with Dybala . any information on this matet or is it just click bait?

{Ed002's Note - Dybala will be available as a Free Agent in the summer if a new contract is not agreed. Liverpool can speak with him now and make a proposal although there may be lingering concerns over injuries although that may have eased. For me, a very good player but getting older and very expensive and I would have thought Liverpool may look toward the future.}

Hi Ed002. Who would be a good, but younger alternative to Dybala, and still within the financial restrictions Liverpool needs to work around. Dybala on a free agent doesn't soumd to bad, but I know transfer fees and huge salary demands adds up.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool should be looking to the future with players like Julian Alvarez or Dejan Kulusevski and not to players who are struggling with persistant injury issues and will be looking for a huge financial deal.}

27 Jan 2022 02:03:19
Think he would take a huge signing on fee and be in big wages also.
Out of interest Ed. If we was to sign a free transfer player. Would his signing on fee come out if the transfer budget or would it be accountable as a wages outlay?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - There is no "transfer budget" as such.}

Doesnā€™t suit Klopps pressing style. Tends to amble in and out of games with flashes of brilliance. Nothing to see here IMO.

Both cracking players Ed002. Apparently Alvarez signed for Man City yesterday, 26Jan.

{Ed002's Note - Yes, I understand.}

Canā€™t believe you missed the Alvarez ā€˜transferā€™ 002 šŸ˜¬šŸ˜‚.

{Ed002's Note - I didn't miss it - thiose are the players Liverpool should be looking at but afterer signing Kounde and Mbappe the money might be limited.}
