Ok if we can get 20M + Caceres for Masch and 12M for Kuyt, that means 32M for new players (presuming there would be no extra money til any potential takeover) couldn't we go for Defour, Gomez and Taiwo for that amount?
Ed. how realistic do you think these are? I know this sort of misses out the need for a winger but someone like Navas would be available for under 10M just prob not enough time for all these to happen.

GOMES?
All this talk of Gomes from Bayern.
The guy is a waste of space since leaving Stuttgart.
I have been living in Germany for over 20 years and the lad needs 10-15 chances before netting one goal.
Benched by Bayern last season, benched during the WC and Qualies.
If you think he's class then Ngog is our Ian Rush.
His price tag is €30 mil and that's about 25 too much.
Bayern got him like a lot of players in order to weaken the league and no more.
Bayern do things the Bayern way.
Klose, Padolskii, Altintop to name but a few have been used for the same purpose and got Benched last year.
Helmes and Kiesling are stunning players and i would go for them.
Ozîl had a great 5 game season and the rest was rubbish, he was benched a lot.
Our Sami is playing well and Elia from Hamburg is a mega Talent.
In Germany i am sad to say we will not find another class act like Torres.
If Roy could get Gomes to play like he did in Stuttgart we would need a third creative AM like Cole and Gerrard to feed him.

Liverpool Consider Ambitious £14m Move for Italian International: Hodgson Keen On Sampdora Hitman Pazzini
Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson is hoping to secure funds to make an ambitious move for Sampdoria striker Giampaolo Pazzini as he looks to beef up the club's attacking options. Having seen his Italian side crash out of the Champions League the Italian international may well be interested in a move to the Premier League. The 26 year old former Fiorentina man has sprung to prominence after netting 19 Serie A goals last term which helped the lethal front man a place in Marcello Lippi's World Cup squad but seeing his hopes of Champions League football vanish thanks a late comeback from Bundesliga side Werder Bremen in a game that Pazzini netted twice in. A move for the striker wouldn't come cheap with the player valued at around £14m but he could potentially work out well as a foil for Fernando Torres and is a player that many of Europe's elite have been monitoring over the past 18 months.
Hodgson will hope that money made from the sales of Yossi Benayoun and Albert Riera, as well as the expected exit of Javier Mascherano, would lead to the Anfield boss having some funds to reinvest in his Liverpool squad.

Aqua loan could be permanent
Alberto Aquilani has returned to Italy joining Juventus after passing a rigorous six hour medical.
An initial season-long loan could be made permanent if a €16 million option to buy the midfielder is activated by the Turin outfit.
A statement published on the Serie A club's website reads: "Juventus Football Club announces that an agreement with Liverpool FC for the free temporary acquisition of the registration rights of the player Alberto Aquilani has been reached. "The agreement also includes the option right, to be exercised at the end of 2010-11 season, for the definitive acquisition by Juventus of the football player at the price of £13.1m, to be paid in three years."
Well that's almost £7m down the drain!

Liverpool will accept an offer of 24m on friday for mascherano. We will replace him with m.diarra on a free transfer. With the 24m, liverpool will sign konchesky for 3.5m, ben arfa for 7m, debuchy for 3m and toivonen for 12m rising to 15m.

Ok so we all saw on monday night that we desperately need a winger or 2 in and can't believe nobody has suggested David Bentley, he's english and clearly isn't in Harry's plans at Spuds so I reckon we could get him on a 6 month loan to see how he settles with a view to a £6M move?
and for the other wing lets give Jesus Navas a blast, he has electric pace and would fit in perfectly in our system and would be available for around £8-10M
my final suggestion is to solve our problem with not having a high quality back up striker so why not use Kuyt up front again as he's NOT a winger if he stays, but if he goes why not get Robinho on a loan for 6 months again to see how it goes but he is quality in the right hands and i reckon he'd flourish under roy and would cost around £12M tops cos Citeh just want him off their wage bill.

Liverpool In Talks to Complete £6m Perfect Mascherano Replacement: Hodgson to Sign Real Madrid Man Diarra
Liverpool are in talks with Real Madrid over the transfer of midfielder Mahamadou Diarra , according to a report in Spain. According to Spanish daily AS, "An emissary on behalf of Real Madrid is negotiating the transfer of Mahamadou Diarra to Liverpool."
I would welcome the purchase of Mahamadou Diarra and clearly this is yet more evidence that Roy Hodgson is working hard to make the most of a very strict budget. The 29 year old Mali international is a quality player but has no chance of making it at the Bernabeu as Jose Mourinho brings in even more Galaticos.
Anyone doubting Diarra's ability should remember that the former Lyon man collected six successive domestic titles first with four Ligue 1 triumphs in France followed by two successive La Liga titles with Real Madrid, that doesn't come easily. The battling midfielder is a class act and the kind of clean up operator who snuffs out attacking forays with ease and a minimum of fuss and is for me the perfect replacement for Javier Mascherano.
Hodgson has already been at pains to point out that Christian Poulsen is not a like for like change for the seemingly outgoing Argentine, but Mahamadou would be. He will cost about £6m to sign now rather than wait until the end of the season for nothing, its worth stacking up the cash now rather than lose the player to some ridiculous salary offer from the likes of Man City.

I think mario gomez on loan would be a fantastic deal the guy is worth 30m and is out of favour at bayern. him and torres together would be the best partnership in prem and if torres is injured gomez could easily take the role of a lone striker. hes a great finisher, bags of pace and has loads of ability.
if rh could get him on loan he would get him on the cheap the following season if a success(which he will be). heard from 2 reliable sources he could move.

Why don't we we buy salcido instead of konchesky, he is better goin forward, more versatile, more skillful, an international and cheaper. comon sense! rh needs to get a move on and sell masch in a player plus cash (18m plus cacares and hleb) then use the rest to get us a decent striker and maschs replacment. ive got a bad feeling we won't sign any1, giv in to barca and sell masch for bout 12m and end up finishing below man city and spurs, agen!

Liverpool FC's Roy Hodgson hints at foul play in Dirk Kuyt transfer saga
Roy Hodgson has suggested that Dirk Kuyt's agent is trying to engineer a move to Inter Milan, despite Rafael Benitez promising not to approach Liverpool players.
Following his decision to leave the club by mutual consent in June, Hodgson claims that the Spaniard signed an agreement which maintained that he would not try to sign any players from his former club prior to his move to the European champions.
Liverpool maintain that they have received no offers for Kuyt, 30, whilst Hodgson believes that agent Rob Jansen, who earlier claimed that the club were in talks with Inter over a move, is attempting to strike a deal despite his client expressing no wish to leave the club."Dirk has not expressed that sentiment to me, " insists Hodgson."When he left the club Rafael Benitez signed an agreement that he would not poach players from Liverpool."We haven't received an offer from any club so this is something obviously going on behind the scenes, with the agent possibly talking to the manager of Inter Milan."We don't welcome any offers, we haven't received an offer and at this late stage of the transfer window it would be remarkably unusual for us to accept an offer for a player we don't want to leave for money we don't need.
"I would suggest, with respect, if his agent had a serious plan to move him to the club he should have been working during the last four to five weeks and not the last few days.

Ok a bit of realism to these targets. Seen as though hodgson rejected any claims for gomez, carlton cole, arda turan and trezeguet i can only see 3 signings:

i think it was pretty obvious that we lacked physical strength on monday against city and so possibly this is the way he will go.
ps. this isn't a rumour, just an observation of the stories published so far plus of the man city game.

Hatem Ben Arfa's transfer seems to be gathering steam, it is also being reported on AS, which is some Spanish newspaper I believe. AS are reporting that he is in England negotiation a move to Liverpool. I wonder if Roy's style of player management will be beneficial to Ben Arfa and Roy could get the best out of him.

Sorry to you guys but Turan won't be coming to liverpool, neither will cole or gomez or david. Its all rumours, the only player i could think would join would be diarra.
Meanwhile, reporters quizzed Hodgson on whether he held any interest in the multitude of strikers linked with Liverpool in recent days such as David Trezeguet, Mario Gomez and Carlton Cole.
He replied: "No. This is the season when names are bandied around and connected with clubs. I'm pretty sure in countries like Germany and Spain, the same names are coming up and being linked with clubs there because that's the way the system operates.
"None of those players are likely to be playing for Liverpool this season."
Local journalists were also keen to see if Hodgson held any interest in Galatasaray's Turkish superstar Arda Turan.
But the boss said: "No. There are a lot of interesting players in Turkey, but the players here earn good money and very often they begin and end their careers in Turkey and don't need to move abroad."

I know this rumour hit the fan last week and has been denied by all involved, but Kuyt will be gone by the end of the week.
Inter will offer in the region of £12m, and it will be accepted. Hodgson does not see how he fits into his plans, as he is not the type of striker we need and his performances on the right, altho very 'energetic', rarely produce the finish article - Expect Kelly to claim the right back slot, with Johnson being pused forward.
Masch will also go, but to Real Madrid for c£23m.

Come on now guys Hodgson wouldn't sign konchesky if he thought he wasnt good enough for Liverpool as he was his manager at Fulham and can see his quality every day, Hodgson said after the match monday that he wanted to be careful with signings as he wants players that can fit in with the Liverpool team not just buy any players.

I was sat next a contact from academy on the plane going to Portugal recently. I got talking to him, and although he was not forthcoming about Kenny Huang deal or other potential takeovers, he did give an insight into the club.
Mascherano even before he downed tools and refused to play on Monday was hugely disliked by the other players. He is very aloof and does not have a real interest in playing for the club. He will leave, but only at the right price. The club feel they owe him no favours, especially when the club showed great faith him after the debacle at West Ham.
He pointed out that there was lots of young talent in the reserve set up and that Roy will be giving opportunities this year eg Jake Robinson etc. However, there are concerns over certain players as to whether they are physically strong enough, ie Pacheco. Ngog has apparently worked tremendously hard on getting himself ready for the season, but there are questions mark over his ability. (No suprise there)
Rafa leaving was welcomed by the majority of the playing staff, especially the big players. Sammy played a huge role in keeping club together last year.
Regarding the takeover, he said that he honestly knew nothing. He said know-one does apart from the very inner circles of the club and that nothing will be leaked by the club. It doubted it would be rushed through as this is what caused the initial problem.
I have included all he said, and some of it is pretty obvious but there were some suprises.

I may foolishly consider myself well edcuated and possibly (at my age - 55) a little more savvy than many.
Truth is, I am confused about what the transfer dealings really say about us, the management and the industry.
Carlton Cole: I've had a soft spot for him. Sort of bustling forward that might power into the box every so often and snatch a stabbed shot into the net, smash a scorcher past the 'keeper or hold everyone off to let another player nip in and score. Truth is, CC appears injury prone and very hit & miss.
I DO have faith in Roy Hodgson and trust him, BUT . . I like many other fans, know a lot about the game. I played it (badly) every Sunday, watched it for 50 years, read about it, coached it at a low level and know what makes the game work. So why do I feel that CC would be a bad buy?
Football is not rocket science and surely I (like thousands of fans and coaches) know enough to make that judgement?
I DO NOT know what Roy may plan for CC or how he would fit into his new strategy, but is CC the answer?
Please don't make it a panic buy.
Man City game: we have panicked in the media, on this site and in the chats with our mates about last Monday's game.
We may be five points behind Chelsea, but it is the start of the seaon.

Torres & Gerrard: the clown who partners Alan Brazil on talkSPORT sugested Torres and Gerrard looked unhappy. So starts a media hype of the negative kind. SG has never been the smiling type and I dismiss that claim.
Torres appears unfit and 'out of sorts' and I expect that to change. This is a difficult time for everyone and we all (including the players) need to keep the faith.
As Oddball in 'Kelly's Heroes' kept saying - "stop hitting me with those negative vibes!"
Trabzonspor: It won't be a walk in the park, but we still have the capability to score away from home.
Aurelio needs to be in at left back (what's the point of having him if we don't want to use him) and I would like to see Shelvey added to the squad.
Shelvey: Impressed with the player and what I have seen of him pre-season (a little) and with Charlton. He reminds me of more mobile Aquilani but with a bit of SG's bite. We bought him and no doubt suggested to him that he would play a strong part in this season's first team. I would like to see him alongside Poulsen and rest Lucas.
Babel: His chances recede with every poor game he has for us. He may say he's feeling under pressure, but at £65,000 per week he should be. At some stage in the very near future (month or so) he will either have to perform or be shipped out.
Poulsen: No decent pre-season but still looked solid if unspectacular in the middle against Arsenal. He is the type of holding player I like; a little less likely to bomb forward every five minutes, but when he edges to wards the box he does think about scoring. Give him time - he will prove a solid buy.
Loic Remy: sorry to read that the player had a heart scare during his medical. He was a player I was interested in, but that's behind us.
Finally . . . I wrote a long treatise on mascherano yesterday in the banter section. I am slightly surprised we talk today of a mere £18 million cash for the player. If Arsenal dug in and wanted £45 million plus for Fabregas, surely we should be suggesting a figure of closer to £25 million for Mascherano?
And yet more finality . . . I reiterate my weekly plea that the younger players (Pacheco, Amoo, Eccleston, Dalle Vale, Shelvey, Ayala and Kelly) be given a real chance in the 'smaller' games.
Always wiling to listen to suggestions, criticisms and other ideas.

Yes it does seem that Konchesky is coming to Liverpool. Yes he is not world superstar. But at the the moment we need someone to fill the left back position who has a good amount of experience in the Prem. League. He seems comparatively fairly cheap at £3.5m and is probably a short term solution for a problematic area on the pitch as Insua has a habit of giving away stupid free kicks. Even if he is eventually replaced by a bigger name, he will give experience, utility and flexibility to the subs bench. Remember everybody that Joey Jones, Jim Beglin, Alan Kennedy, Steve Staunton were hardly world 'greats' but all did their part in Liverpool FC history.
So lets all get behind the team (like spring 2005 when Mourinho and the press talked Liverpool down and we got behind the team to Istanbul glory) and support Hodgson in this 'situation', which if we don't the media i.e SkySportsNews etc. will jump on and it may become a very difficult situation for us all, where we are subjected to the usual media and press anti Liverpool bias and unpleasantness (the anti Liverpool Mourinho article in todays press is only the beginning.

Roy should sell masch quick, we could probably get around 18mil right now, i think he is worth more than that but we haven't got time to hold out for more money. it is looking pretty clear that we are going to get paul konchesky, this means that kyrgiakos has no place in the team as agger will go back to centre-back and we also have carra, skrtel and wilson, we sould get a couple of million for him. we will also sell insua to genoa or someone and konchesky will be the replacement. although this doesn't look likely, i would sell maxi rodriguez or kuyt, i love kuyt but he isn't the player he was 2 years ago and inter offered 15mil. with all this money from sales we should buy ola toivonen, he would be perfect along side torres (roy is a 4-4-2 man) as he is a good supporting player but will also get loads of goals. . plus we will finally have someone who is a threat from corners. i would also buy hatem ben arfa as a replacement for kuyt/ maxi as we need pace down the right. paul konchesky is also a decent choice as a first choice left-back. press believe if you agree!

What happend to players wanting to come to our once proud and mighty club, now we are stick looking forward to the possibility of signing very average players. it looks like it could be a long and hard season if this is what we all aspire to.
Let Mach go, he has been great for us and simply wants to move on so his family are happier, we would all do the same if necessary. With the Mash money we could sign a half decent back up forward for Torres and some cover so Johnson can attack more. It's hard to say but Carra's legshave gone, Dagger and Skirts in the middle from now on is a must. I have no idea on the logic of letting Aqua go on loan and keeping Lucas, utter maddness, Banega might fill in the gap but still madness.

Right, lets think about the Mach deal carefully, Mach is a DM so isn't a goal scorer this is reflected in his 139 appearances and has only scored 2 goals! So for those of you who think we should hold out for £25-30 mil, get real! Yes he is the best in his position and is captain of his country, and what Mascherano lacks in height, he makes up for in power, and the sight of our No.20 thundering across the field to recover possession is familiar. But his temper is a problem and often leads to bookings!
So when you think about it he is worth about £20mil if we can get close to that, we should take it, he wants away, and we need the money to rebuild!

JUST MY OPINION
I said last season that we should have went after Tevez, Robben and Sneijder because these where all top players that where available after falling out of favour with their clubs (in robben and sneijder's case), and look at how good they all where last season.
These are the best players to purchase, ones that are available at a good price with a point to prove. So those players this time around are;
Salcido - LB
L. Diarra/ Flamini - DM
Rafael Van Der Vaart - C/ AM
A. Hleb - Winger
Huntelaar/ Benzema - ST
That's about 45 million worth of talent in the positions we need. If Mascherano goes for £20 mil plus Hleb, we only need to generate another £20mil
to buy the rest of them, or we could even loan one of them if the £20 mil can't be raised. With these players and the chance for some youngsters to come in around them like Wilson, Kelly, Shelvey, Mavinga, Spearing, Ince, Dalle Valle and Pacheco we will be buildig a squad with hunger pace and technical abilty that can compete in the short term and grow stronger in the long run, with only the possibility of adding 1/ 2 top players a season. THAT'S HOW YOU BUILD A SQUAD.

Given that he's not long into a new contract, this could finally give us the money to either get a proper winger or a decent RB to shift Johnson further up the field. Caceras adds us good young depth to the defensive line, if we can't get them in a deal, 20 mil and sign Hatem Ben Arfa as the winger.
We'll sign Koncheskey ASAP, i don't mind that signing because when Fabio is fit, his fit enough to be a top left back. We now have two left backs who can compete for that spot.
Signing Carlton Cole for 6 mil is a huge bargain.
Also would still love Tominoven to come as he can play behind the striker just as well as the main striker.

I was just on the Walkon website and Barca are now including Hleb and Caceres and the deal for Mash.
Hleb - don't know his dribbling is okay for finishing and passing not so good.
Caceres - would be a very good addition to our defence.

I've said this before that Liverpool need to bring in 4 players to cement a top 4 finish. One of them was a re-placement for Masch and Poulsen has been brought in temporarily(after the takeover I would like to see Banega in this position).
We need a quality left-back Agger looked frustrated at Eastlands and Johnson made him dance around the park. With our current funds Salcido/ Caceres are realistic options (after the takeover I would like to see Coentrao at left-back).
A pacey winger needs to be signed as Kuyt is too slow and doesn't deliver enough balls into the box. I don't know if we can afford him but A.Young definitely seems to be the prefered option- as he can play on both wings.
As for the striker this season it's down to Toivonen or Ruiz- personally I would choose Toivonen:tall, powerful, a great header of the the ball and just the man to be getting onto those A.Young crosses. He's built for the Premier League!
With these additions along with the players we already have top 4 will become a formality.
