Morning Ed2, you have told us Klopp is looking for a first team defender but with financial constraints due to the C.V. that might prove to be difficult. I know of Klopp's admiration for Diego Carlos but what I wanted to know is if we hold any interest in Ben White who I think is a fantastic prospect. He won't come cheap but in your opinion if we were to make a move for him would it be an attainable avenue to pursue, in terms of whether Brighton have put a price on his head or it's a no go for this season.

{Ed002's Note - Liverpool have looked to bolster the home-grown quota and have looked Ben White (CB) amongst others. Liverpool are one of several sides interested but I don't see him moving this summer.}

He’s signed a new long term deal has he not? Think we can rule him out for now anyways.

Thanks for the reply Ed2.

The Southern Red, I didn’t know he put pen to paper a new deal, although it’s not uncommon for that to happen then a player leave shortly afterwards but looks like we can cross this one off for now like you said.

It's being reported that Leeds bought Llorente from Sociedad for 18M GBP. Is that true? We had been hearing for the better part of 2 years that Llorente was priced out of what LFC wanted to pay, but 18M seems like it would have been a no brainer move had the opportunity come up before we made recent purchases. Did Sociedad panic sell or is there more to the fee that is being reported?

{Ed001's Note - Sociedad have money problems and needed to sell.}

I also think llorente might not have been too interested in leaving sociedad to join us when other clubs like Leeds could offer him regular starting time. At that age he probably wouldn't want to risk the possibility of seeing Gomez and VVD become consistent partnership and spend a few years of his career not guaranteed to play every week. He'd be aiming to become a starting CB for Spain with pique gone and Sergio Ramos coming to his final years while no other top defenders from Spain are certain to fill those positions. He's 27 and not yet to have a season where he's been an ever present. He needed to seek a move where he can try to bring his game up a gear and maybe reach a level in next season or after to get a big move.

I don't think we had serious intentions to pursue him as I'd imagine the player wasn't expected to be eager to accept the role we could offer.

Food for thought, but I was under the impression that he was on our short list of CBs who could be automatic starters next to VVD. It just surprised me that he ended up going this window for that price. Don't get me wrong, I am happy with Gomez's game and love him as a player, just needs to string together a healthy year for me to have full confidence in his reliability.

I understand that we as fans want to see Gomez being reliable as an ever present like van dijk has been. It's such a bonus to have a CB pairing who are together every week but Joe has only just turned 23 and still very young so I'm confident he can improve in this department. What I find impressive is that he and VVD can gel together so quickly when paired up even after periods of time apart.

Imagine a season where they start 35 or 36 league games together how strong they could be. The vidic/ Ferdinand or Terry/ carvalho partnerships were top class when they played nearly every game.

I've no complaints if klopp is ambitious and seeking a defender that is of the quality to expect coming straight into the team but Its hard to get that signing without spending large. I'm currently confident with the boys we have so I'd have no worries at all if we instead signed a cheaper or younger defender who could be managed patiently and look to earn his place without pressure to come straight in. Matip and fabinho also offer us strong options so I'd love to see Gomez being told by klopp he wants him as his trusted first choice and challenge Gomez to focus on achieving a full season of being fit and available. He just needs that full season without any setbacks and playing alongside VVD week in week out his confidence and game would be able to reach another level that we all see he is capable of.

Kouliby rumours? Has to be bs Ed's but thoughts?

Believable0 Unbelievable0

{Ed002's Note - I am not aware of Liverpool making any approach to Napoli for Kalidou Koulibaly nor if Napoli would be will to wait for payments to be made - which would be the only way he would be affordable. With Manchester City stepping back because of the age/cost/resale situation, PSG think they are the only viable option.}

I am happy how Napoli is treated by clubs. They are one of the most difficult cløubs to negotiate. Just hope PSG rip them off.

I do feel sorry for Koulibaly, just at a time in life when he is entitled to be thinking of his pipe and slippers, he keeps seeing his name in the football transfer headlines. He has never done any of us harm, why not let him retire gracefully?

God don’t you just hate it when clubs try and get a good price for their best players 🙄.

Now now Firmane. Don't you know the Liverpool fans rule when it comes to transfers? We pay what the asking price the selling club want, its only fair and we reduce our asking price just to get rid of them. At least that's the way some on here would have you believe.

Is he a top cb signing? He's 29 and last time I watched napoli which to be fair is a while ago. but he looked very clumsy, a bit like sahko was for us.

He's still a very good and proven centre back. Very good centre backs are hard to come by. Would be a great signing for PSG.
