23 Oct 2010 17:11:40Liverpool RumoursLiverpool should get rid of gerrard and torres, start fresh with a new manager and bring in class prem players not like pouslen and konceskey(spelling). if this happens we will defo climb the table.

are you for real mate? to sell gerrard and torres in the same window would be catastrophic. at the moment, the team is built around them both, we need to keep them and reshape the 11 into a single solid unit instead of this fragile group of people being carried by 2 'sick and tired of it all' superstars. then maybe could we thing of replacing them, but not right now. do you want us to go down? bluenose incognito i think

Just tried to place a bet on next manager to leave(on Roy of course), only to find there isn't a single bookie who will take my money. They have closed the book, the bookies obviously feel theres no money to be made on it anymore. I'm guessing the only way they'll open it up again is if we win 3 on the bounce.

nuff said really.

RE:
How did we miss out on players like Van Der Vaart, Sneijder & Robben in the last few years when Real Madrid were getting rid of them for cheap? It's criminal.

We must look to pick up the next batch of Gago, Lass & Drenthe in January/ Summer. Not quite as good as the previous 3, but still very handy players of much higher ability than our current crop.

Ok, just to pull in the pro and anti Roy Hodgson peole together.

Lets say we give Roy until January to turn things around, lets be generous. .

So Roy stays until January. . . . at the moment from the Arsenal game at Anfield (where actually we should have won), we appear to have got progressively worse as a team, the results have got worse, the tactic and the team selection have. . . .you guessed it got worse.
The negativity in after match interviews has got worse. Lets give him until the january transfer window where he can spend the money on 2 worse players than we let go on loan(Poulsen and Konchesky) and let a good player(Aquilani) and an upcoming player(Insua) go out on loan with a view to not coming back. . . . Lets back Roy because he inherited a weak squad. . .which has now got weaker because of HIM.

So to anybody who wants roy to stay until January, just remember. . WE AREN'T IMPROVING AND HE HAS WEAKENED THE SQUAD. All those 'pro' Hodgson people just remember that with us being in the bottom 3 and NOT IMPROVING. .IN EIGHT GAMES, we are only going to be relegated. YES, I WILL BACK THE MANAGER TILL JANUARY. But bearing in mind the above FACTS, THEN WHY SHOULD I BACK HIM?.

BUT I WILL BACK HIM. . .JUST WHY THOUGH?

If you would like to comment on WHY i should back him until January, feel free to tell me WHY?

ed, be grateful for your thoughts on any of the above.

YNWA

JFT96 {ed's note - there is no point giving him until January when he is on borrowed time, things will just get worse.}

Macca i have always thought your notes were genuine. .I believe in what you have said.
The board are presuming that chelski will turn us over, so youre not going to install a new manager who is going to take a hidng in his first game. a few years ago Everton ousted Mike Walker who I thought wasnt that bad but the board wanted him out, they did it before the derby(liverpool) game, and installed Joe Royal, because if walker had have beat the reds they couldnt have sacked him. .
In macca we trust

Does anyone else think that if step back and look at the bigger picture, that you actually trace our lack of ambition back to a single moment about 7 or so years ago when we decided that Nicolas Anelka did not fit the mould of what we were looking for as regards a Liverpool player? Ed, I would be interested in your thoughts on this too. .
Mal {ed's note - I think it was the day Moores bottled it and pushed Roy Evans out the door by appointing Houllier. We haven't played with any attacking ambition since then.}

The blame for our position is 50 - 50 between Roy and the Players. It pains me to watch the boring, negative football we have been playing for some time now, even under Rafas last months.

Maxi is terrible, poulsen too. Jovanovic looked ok pre-season but now seems to have sunk with the rest of the teams poor morale.

I would prefer to see some playes like Amoo or Eccleston deployed out wide with Babel each game in the hope that they may actually use their pace and attack the full back.

Every ball we play seems to be backwards or at best sideways. We have no pace at all in our squad - including Torres. Yes, he has been injured, but he looks so deflated with life at LFC at the moment.

I would prefer now to buy wisely. By this I mean, spend a lot of money on proven players rather than try to fix all of our problems in one or 2 windows. The 4 or 5 players we seem to buy each summer, always seem to be shipped out within 12 months.

Someone commented on thinking that Everton would beat us last week. I see all teams beating us until something radical happens. Look at Blackpool, why would you write them off against us? DJ Campbell has bags of pace and Varney and Adam are good players.

BUY WIDTH, BUY PACE AND BUY PROVEN QUALITY THATS NOT SHIPPED OUT WITHIN 12 MONTHS!

It does beg the question who our scouts are to think Voronin, Dossena, Itandje, Poulsen, Ngog and co are any good.

Believe if you feel my pain and agree.

Why do people keep saying we should get wright-phillips!?! his touch is temperamental, as is his final delivery, his dribbling and pretty much everything else in his game. there is a reason he can't get a regular place in at man city (who would definitely charge us way more than he is worth!). He would be nothing more for us than another big disappointment. Would any of you ed's be happy with him?

Besides, it's all well and good saying we should buy him, him and him but until we have a manager that plays a suitable system we won't be able to

a) attract players of the quality required, or
b) make the most of any quality players we have.

He'll attend the match tomorrow like i said on thursday, Roy will bid good-bye to fans tom. regardless of the result.
Macca, i highly doubt your sources man coz i've my friend tom who is a close mate to ian ayre as well and they never thought of giving Roy more games to sort it out. It was just that the board was busy installing new board members.

Hodgson has got to go, Signs Poulsen who couldnt get a game at Juve and sends Aquilani the opposite direction, Aquilani at least showed some promise. Babel to go as well he's terrible (Doesnt look interested in football) let him DJ somewhere else, Wingers are a priorty - Torres will score goals if he gets good service (Payet from Saint Etienne looks class), Any truth to the rumours that all the unrest with the team is due to Sammy Lee?

'Editor's Note: I think you may be disappointed in January'
What do you mean by this? I think three new players is a realistic number, and the players i've put, i think we have got a chance of getting

{Editor's Note: Out of the player's that you listed I would suggest that only two could be available to Liverpool in January, Honda and Afellay. Neither of these help out with the striking problem. Hoarau seems a much more likely option.}

Ed why do you constantly assume that the new owners arent going to spend cash on the team, for them to do what the do and make teams profitable the need the best team winning on all fronts. So you constantly saying the won't spend in the region of 50 mllion in summer seems werid, how do you expect our famous team to get to the top again. Expect money to be spent and a to think there will be atlest 40-50 million in the transfer kitty. What kind of kitty do you think a top manager is going want to take over at liverpool. Love the forum bye the way just don't understand why you don't see lots of money beeing spent maybe not in citys stlye but we wouldn't want that for our great club

You'll never walk alone

{Editor's Note: I have not said at any time that the owners will not spend money. What I have said is that:
- They will not assign a £50M "transfer kitty". Transfer kitties are a figment of the fans imagination.
- The manager will broadly be aware of what money may be available to spend - but no more than that.
- The manager/coach will need to justify any proposed expenditure by proposing the players he wants to the board/responsible person. If agreed, then an approach will be made to the player's club and agent.
- The board/responsible person will be looking for players who can improve the team at the right price.

The club will be fiscally responsible from this point forward, and that is the way it should be. Do not expect £50M plus sales in January.}

Not a rumour but does anyone agree Alan smith is worth considering? I know he's ex Leeds and manure but has several good points

Has pride passion drive and talent in abundance

Can play in any central midfield role

Has played for England as a striker and who would be better at holding the ball up and playing in Torres or waiting for the midfield to join

He would not be expensive

In 18 months would be a great squad player and he would allow us to sell poulsen and Lucas to fund more attacking players

Plus he's said to be a famy lad and this would put him a little trip down the 62

Any support?

Just thought i'd throw this one in. . .

Frank Rijkaard as manager and King Kenny as his number two?

could be good. . .

()()

23 Oct 2010 18:24:17
Kenny Dalglish or Frank Rijkaard to be our new manager, there the only ones, that are available, realistic and can put us on track to winning the prem.
For now play Johnson on the wing with Kelly at rightback. This will give Kelly experience and Johnson will help him defend, and it will add width to the team.
Give Lucas a chance! When he plays in a more attacking role he does well ie, Benfica-Europa League. He should have played against Napoli, where Shelvey was playing and Shelvey should have played where Poulsen was, giving him more time to pick out his passes.
Finally in January we should sign; Honda/ llorente, Affelay/ Hazard and Taiwo (and have a look at Santon, depending on how Kelly is doing)
What do you think ED and everybody else? I would appreciate feedback

{Editor's Note: I think you may be disappointed in January.}

How many editors run this site? Might be a good idea to number yourself so we know who's got the best contacts & who are the tea boys. last bit is a joke so don't get your knickers in a twist.
Just one more point, not sure if you can fix this, but if you refresh site you can keep clicking on believe or unblieve as many times as you want. Member login an option?
Great site, keep up the good work.

{Editor's Note: There are a few editors and each has their own unique way of signing in - mine being "Editor's Note:", another being "ed's note -" etc.. These are as good as numbering or any other methodology. Your proposal is fine but someone needs to keep score - I trust you to do this. As for the refreshing believable/unbelievable issue, you really should have something better to do with your time. As an example, voting "Believable" to "Would you like a new manager?" does not mean that Roy will not see his three year contract out. There is a "member's only" area already, but I don't think it is what you are looking for, and all sorts of other great stuff.}

Frank Rijkaard may well 'fancy' the Ajax job but if you look at the dutch league Martin Jol is in no danger of losing his job anytime soon mate. Secondly
to say the job is between MON an Roy is pure fantasy. . . .Michael Laudrup, Ronald Koeman, Marco Van Basten, Manuel Pelligrini. . . . . all of which would do a better job than MON or Roy and are for the most part, UNEMPLOYED! !. Please gety your facts right before writing stuff like this. P.S Kenny hasn't managed since Newcastle 10 years ago and would be as out of touch as Roy. Why do u think Martin Broughton wouldn't give him the job. Roy was seen as a SAFE bet to steady the ship while we found new owners and if we aren't in the top half of the table come December(only 5 weeks away). .he will be gone. He might not even get that much time!

Disagree!
Who out of the managers you have named has EPL experience?
How many years managment experience did Dalglish have before being appointed Liverpool boss? So what the flip has being out the game 10years got anything to do with it. Out of touch! How? The guy is in charge of accademy plus you throw him a question about any player and he'll tell you everything about him.
Dalglish is clue'd up. He is fergusons nemises and I believe can get us challenging again.

None of them. . .But nor did Houllier or Benitez and they have both done a better job than Dalglish or Hodgson would have done. . . . On the other hand Roy Hodgson has a fair few seasons of premiership experience and look whats happened to him!.
Premiership experience doesn't mean ANYTHING.
Whats important is how relevant your ideas are today. .which is why Roy isn't cutting it, and Kenny the legend that he is, never will. Football is progressive mate, we wouldn't have the best league in the world if it wasn't for the Wengers, Benitez, mourinhos of this world.(NEITHER OF WHICH AS U PUT IT HAD PREMIERSHIP EXPERIENCE BEFORE ARSENAL, LIVERPOOL AND CHELSEA RESPECTIVELY). We'd still be playing the way Big Sam does. King Kenny is exactly where he should be tapping up bright young stars for the future.

So anyway, what actually was your point?

Beginning to think it is probably unlikely Roy will be replaced this week.

Acknowledged today that two senior officials of New England Sports Ventures have been appointed as members of the Liverpool board
David Ginsberg, one of NESV's two vice-chairmen, and investor Michael Gordon have been appointed as club directors.

Unless they are taking consultation from the 'Home Team' It would be unlikely they will walk into the boardroom on monday morning and make such a sweeping change unless of course Broughton has already made the decision and NESV just ratify it.

The next thought might be that NESV question whether to take Broughton advice seeing as he made such a fine appointment in Roy

Either way I think Roy will be shown the door just maybe not as soon as some of us would like.

"23 Oct 2010 17:14:57
People don't realize that we are using babel incorrectly if we fit him into a 4-3-3 formation he will perform he is no that bad look at lucus and maxi rubbish"

Listen look at lucus on the field he looks lost where as babel when he comes on he got pace the ability to dribble defenders and a shot like remember when he scored against lyon last year so don't even compare him to lucus because the only reason lucus was played last year was cause rafa liked him i bet you most fans would let lucus go for free"

Babel has a first touch like he's in diving boots and his dribbling abilities involve mainly passing the ball to the nearest defender. if he can't make an impact against a clearly timid Napoli defence that even Kelly strode past then he stands little chance of improving. His supposed pace is only apparent when running to his phone to tweet someone, if the ball happens to be at his feet he'll fall over it and sigh. One wonder goal doesn't make you a good player (if we're comparing, then you'll already be aware of a similarly decent strike by Lucas in Europe last year as well). If you remember Babel's goal so vividly, i assume you remember what he did with the freekick he took from a decent position mere moments after his goal? Shanked into oblivion, troubling the corner flag more than the goalkeeper. Lucas was followed by many clubs when at Gremio and was moved out of position by Benitez into a role completely alien to him. He may be average, but at least he doesn't give up on balls played more than three yards from him as Babel does. Babel has some untapped ability i'll grant you, but he is incredibly lazy which is unforgivable. Neither are good enough for Liverpool, but i'd take the player putting in effort any day of the week.

If the players say they don't like Roy, his training or his tactics, surely he has to go. He hasn't got a single good result and the players are unhappy, why would we keep him?
Everyday he stays at the club he's doing more damage and eventually we're going to lose our star players and replace them with mediocre players. Roy doesn't play good football, doesn't get good results, can't motivate the players and constantly says the wrong things to the media.
An honourable man would step down if the fans wanted him out that bad, I have a feeling he's hanging on for his severance package.

"Liverpool are now interested in signing Valta Birsa, they have joined clubs such as Blackpool and Wigan, obviously he's the next worlds best player :( "

Well said - this has been happening too long already. We target (and buy) mediocre players (with the exception of some obvious names) instead of bringing BIG names to a big club. I hope Roy doesn't waste more money by signing players who don't IMPROVE the squad SIGNIFICANTLY. Hopefully the board and new owners can help to sort this out.

Rijkaard will go back to Holland He's after Ajax job. Hiddink wouldn't come yet either. That leaves Hodgson to continue or Dalglish or Oneil. The board won't want another manager who has fans power like raffa had so that rules out Dalglish. Between O'neil and Hodgson. . Well that's a coin toss who's better.
I guess Hodgson is staying for atleast one whole season.

One of the Editors said earlier that one player seems to be unhappy and that we will let him go. Is this payer Torres?

{Editor's Note: I would let go of any player who does not want to play for the club. At present Torres' head seems elsewhere. If he can't get it together then the club need to look for another solution before he becomes a disruptive influence. And I don't really care that he may or may not have been let down by past promises, if he is not happy then ship him out.}

I agree with what you have said. However we cannot say exactly why Torres is unhappy, if it is his inability to recover his form that is frustrating him then surely "ship him out" cannot be the answer. If this is the case then should the club not do everything they can to bring back his confidence. I think we all need to be patient just as Torres has been patient with the club.

Although as you said before if he is doing a Rooney and throwing his toys then there is no time for that and he should be moved on.
I would have thought Torres to have a bit more class than that glorified chav though.

{Editor's Note: You are right of course, if it is simply frustration about his form then fine - but it is more than a few games now. I fear a festering unhappiness.}

Listen look at lucus on the field he looks lost where as babel when he comes on he got pace the ability to dribble defenders and a shot like remember when he scored against lyon last year so don't even compare him to lucus because the only reason lucus was played last year was cause rafa liked him i bet you most fans would let lucus go for free

New players

Here is my wishlist for January:
1. Turan
2. Mata
3. Hamsek
I would happily sell Babel, Lucas, Poulsen, Johnson and Konchesky. Aurelio should be at left back.
4-3-3: Torres, Mata, Turan up front, Gerrard, Cole, Hamsek in midfield.
Get Rijkaard in with this team and they'll challenge Man Utd and Arsenal for 4th

I think that there might be issues getting 'hulk' a work permit - i don't think he has played the necessary 75% of games for Brazil in the last year, and they normally only make exceptions for younger players!

The new owners said there would be a substantial amount next summer. The usual 20m+30m that we used to pay interest = 50m + money from player transfers. Do you think otherwise Ed?

{Editor's Note: Yes, I do think otherwise. There will not be a pile of cash handed over. The manager will have a broad understanding of what can be spent but will need to go on a case-by-case basis to the board. I am sure that they will support the manager with purchases that can improve the club, but don't expect vast summs to be spent.}

Right Let's get one thing straight, the reason we are in this position is the player's full stop
They have blamed the owners and now they are still playing awful its Roy's fault, forget training being 50 years out of date its a simple game those players need to take a good look at themself
if they don't want to play for Liverpool then go
Roy has 8 games with a team that is not his half the team came back from the world cup two weeks into the new season
half the team wanted to leave and had to convince to stay
since then he has lost a key midfielder
the players have been away on int duty
give him a break
there is no fix our team is awful but even with the players Roy puts out we should be winning
PLAYERS FAULT FULL STOP
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Is it not the managers job to motivate his players, make the feel invincible? Is it not the managers job to play a certain formation that's the best for each game? Is it not the managers job to replace transfers with equal or better players? Is it not the managers job to use substitutes when needed? Is it not the managers job to support his players or fans when they come under attack from other managers or pundits?
It's not just the players but the manager to.
In the run up to Everton I diddnt feel confident we could win and I feel the same with Blackburn.
We have 50mill plus player sales to spend next summer yet hodgson is looking at targets mid table teams are after.

{Editor's Note: "£50M plus player sales" - I really don't think so.}

People please stop complaining about who we are 'supposed' to be looking at, there is no way on this earth we could compete with anybody like Arsenal, Everton, Man Ure or Chavski. Why would a player choose us over a champions league / Premier league challenging side?
We need to spend time re-building and re-establishing our identity, sort out the manager (whether he's going or staying) then lets not forget NESV are not going to plough obscene amounts of money in so we need to off load our dead wood and who is gonna pay anything like we have for players like Babel or Aquaman?
We have a mid table manager with alot of mid table players that play like championship players, if you were someone like Aguero watching our season unfold would you come? lets re establish our identity first.

{ed's note - I always though Spain played a 3 man front line, Torres as the central one, hence why Villa plays on the left of it. Personally I think Torres is in desperate need of a strike partner, one up top just doesn't work unless you have a lot of support from midfield. We are not playing high enough up the pitch to make one striker work.}

couldn't agree more! our lack of support is almost beyond belief. what worked so well when we had alonso (more often than not) is that alonso would collect the ball from deep, with the rest of midfield forward of him. sometimes he'd play a long ball, sometimes short, sometimes a killer ball but 9 times out of 10 it would mean that whoever he passed to is in an advanced position and along with the rest of our midfield, could support torres. Since he left, all our midfield seem to drop back and we just play sideways and backwards and rarely in our opponents half! When we get it torres he's usually left with 3 choices. Pass it back 20 yards, try and score a miracle goal from wherever he is, or play it short because he's had to drop so deep to receive the ball.

Against Napoli in the 1st half i decided to count the number of times a liverpool player made a SUCCESSFUL, FORWARD pass to a team mate whilst in the OPPONENTS half. This didn't have to be a chance creating pass, just one that was received and controlled. Admittedly i only started after 7mins but the total at half time was. . 16! and most of these were followed almost immediately by a pass backwards or sideways. Not the most exciting stat but a frightening indication of just how much of a threat we lack.

Redfish

Redfish, I agree with this analysis, but would also add that persisting with a striker in N'Gog, who seems to be absolutely incapable of receiving a pass and bringing the midfield into an attack is absolute lunacy. At the minute, the team is constantly being turned round by this outrageous weakness in our squad. He cannot tackle, dribble, cross or shoot, he is an utter liability and a waste of a shirt. Defenders must piss themselves laughing when they see him come on. he is a lightweight. Babel has his issues, but lack of strength is NOT one of them.

I seriously believe that most of our current problems are down to 2 players, Carragher and N'Gog. Carra is undroppable, which will take this great club down, and the media is persisting with this BS that he is the heart and soul of the team. At his best he was average. He actually started out as a right-sided midfielder for a time before moving to RB, then CD. His touch is woeful, and his pace is sedentary at best. Let's please get a footballer in defence, alongside Skrtel or Wilson. And for heaven's sake, please can we play a forward capable of holding onto the ball.

He reminds me of Cloughie. Maybe Halloway is worth a shot at Liverpool

If the Hammers get at least a point today then Liverpool will be bottom of the EPL tonight. As unbelievable as it sounds, maybe Roy should bring a cut out of the table a pin it to the dressing room wall. Then he should be asking is this where we belong! Players, coaches & manager included need to improve. There's nothing more than I would like than us to beat that fat f*ck Allardyce's team & ram his words back down his big fat mouth!

I am not a Benitez fan and certainly don't want him back. But I can't help thinking that we'd be at least 5 or 6 points better off this season if he'd been in charge."

Possibly, but we'd also be one or two star players lighter. After replacing Alonso with Aquilani would you trust him to replace the other key figures?

The one thing I take from the comment on lfc tv, about the defence, Roy as seen enough of Carra at centre back and doesn't want him there.Why did he give him a new contract? I totally agree he as been a warhorse but he is now way past is best.I think Roy is frightened of dropping Carra. he shouldnt be. lfc fans of Bill and Sir Bob days have seen loads of legends leave the club.He should take charge of the situation, not stop the development of the young lads coming through.If he prefers the Greek to Carra, then that's his decision. what you don't do is put Carra right or left back, just to keep in the fans good books .Most fans know Carra as to foul more than tackle these days he is becoming a liability. I love Carra and respect him but I wouldn't play him anymore.Not at the expense of the young lads devlopment Carra got his chance at 20, why not let Kelly have his chance.I am not blaming Carra for this I am blaming Roy.Give the lads a chance they might save your job.

Our team until January should look like this;

Reina
Kelly Skrtel Agger Aurelio

Johnson Gerrard Meireles Jovanovic

Cole
Torres

Then in January sell the Babels' and Lucas' of this world and say to Juve that they can keep Aquilain for 10-12m, so overall we get around 25m in sales hopefully. Plus 30m(hopefully from NESV, as they can see we need the money) which means we will have about 50m to spend, hopefully. We will need a CB, RB, CM, LW and ST. This is who I would like to see arriving;

Mexes- 6m
Elia- 15m
Van der Wiel- 10m
Muntari- Loan
Llorente- 18m

Total- 49m

Team after Transfer Window;

Reina
Wiel Mexes Agger Aurelio

Johnson Meireles/ Muntari Elia

Gerrard

Llorente Torres

Then in the summer we will need a LB, CB(possibly) RW(if Johnson is not good enough, a new permanent CM, and a cover ST). I would get;

Criscito- 10m
Cahill- 15m
Young- 15m
Honda- 12m
Kerzhakov- 8m

Yes I know it's a lot of money, but we will get back a lot of money in shirt sales with Honda from Asia, and maybe with kerzhakov from Russia.

Blackburn then Bolton so lets get behind him and give him his chance. 6 points out of next 2 games would probably c us into the top 10. We can build from there and the right signings in jan and things might start to look up. If we don't win next 2 then change is inevidable. Am I the only person who believes that Babel would be a great player under Wenger? He has the talent without question. He just needs coaching, rafa didn't do that and Woy isn't either. I fear for the great deal of talent that we have. Pacecho (spelling) Amoo Shevley Kelly should be playing more at least 10-15 mins a game.

Just loom at the kids we lost, Rafa could have made them something, the next fowler, Owen, macmoneyman. Instead nothing they became could have beens.

When was the last time a 16 year old hit the seen like Owen or fowler with his 5 goals.

Oh yea diao had the worst first touch ;) {ed's note - Wenger had Babel watched for years but decided he wasn't good enough to sign.}

"'They do that because they find it more difficult to do their job. He (Allardyce) is a model for all the managers round the world. I'm sure his style of play and behaviour is the perfect model for all kids and managers everywhere.
'I'm sure parents everywhere will enjoy this model and tell their kids, "This is how it should be done." In fact, I believe Barcelona are thinking about copying this style."

Former Galatasaray and Barcelona boss Frank Rijkaard is reported coming close to replace Roy Hodgon after another disapointed performance in Italy. Speculation is rife that Roy Hodgson will leave Anfield and will surely to be axed as early as this weekend if the club do not beat Blackburn Rovers on Sunday, however any resultant victory merely delaying the inevitable.

Rijkaard agent stated that no actual contact has been made but THE DUTCH MAN WAS APPOACHED AND HE IS VERY INTERESTED IN THE JOB AT ANFIELD.

Odds for Rijkaard being the next Liverpool manager have dropped dramatically and he is now the clear favourite to take over from under fire Hodgson.

Martin ONeill and Kenny Dalglish are also linked with the job, but it's unlikely both to leave their current club for Liverpool.

Liverpool fans are the most loyal fans any manager can ask for. Evidence to this can be counted by how many managers we have had since Mr Shankly.
Our style of play, confidence and league position at present show the frustration of the fans. We lack goals and arnt confident in the next game. For these reason's the fans question Mr Hodgsons ability. If Mr Benitez was stil in charge we would be at least midtable and he would have counter attacked any attack to his players from other managers or pundits. This means the board did Not replace the manager with someone of a higher standard. It's unheard of a club Liverpool's size should be out of the title race after only 8games. Hodgsons buys have been questionable to say the least. How much longer do we give him? The longer were in the Relegation zone the harder the battle to get out. It seem the players have lost confidence in the manager as well as the fans. Everton game was unexectpable and four losses in only 8 games is a joke. Can you honestly see Hodgson getting a long run of victories and turning the club around? Maybe the pressure of this club is just to great for the manager. UEFA cup should be the last priority not the first. This shows lack of ambition to get the club to the right place. Hodgson was Purslows man and now it seems Purslow paid the price of not listening to the fans. Getting to UEFA cup final is good on Hodgsons CV but his league position of 12th and the fact he never won the UEFA cup plus his age shows he should not have been installed on the fact of one season. Rijkaard would need a few seasons to learn this league so I would suggest Dalglish installed because of his knowledge and he is a winner. Dalglish in my eyes deserves another chance and I'm sure he IS the right man

"23 Oct 2010 01:12:54

The demise of blackburn rovers, by roy hodgson-from league champions to relegation:
Roy Hodgson joined the club from Inter Milan in the summer of 1997, and appeared to have had a positive effect on the club. He marked his arrival with the signings of highly rated Swedish striker Martin Dahlin and promising defender Stephane Henchoz. Chris Sutton and Kevin Gallacher led a prolific attack, and were able to help the team overcome the disappointing form of Dahlin, who struggled with a back injury. UEFA cup football was secured with a 6th place finish, and there were plenty of entertaining games, such as a 4-3 defeat to Leeds which saw all 7 goals coming within the first 32 minutes, and a 5-3 success over Leicester at Ewood Park. Although some of these results went against them, it summed up Hodgson's newly installed attacking ideology. With European football coming up, and the prospect of a title challenge on the horizon, things looked promising at the start of the 1998-99 season.

However, Rovers made a poor start to the campaign and Hodgson was sacked in December less than an hour after a 2-0 home defeat to bottom side Southampton, a result that locked Rovers in the relegation zone. The £7.5m signing of young Southampton striker Kevin Davies was a disaster, with Davies only netting once, against Charlton in a rare win, in 24 games. To make matters worse, team captain and midfield enforcer Tim Sherwood was sold to Tottenham Hotspur, leaving the side without a leader. Brian Kidd, the hugely successful Manchester United assistant manager, was named as Hodgson's successor. However, he could not save them as the club slipped away, relegation was confirmed with a scoreless draw at home to Manchester United in the penultimate game of the season. So, just four years after lifting the Premier League title, Blackburn Rovers were now back in the second tier of English Football.
and if we don't act now he will do the same to us!"

Tbh i don't think you can put either decline solely at the feet of Hodgson, but i'll admit the similarities are there. Some would say that at Blackburn he inherited a side of players that had grown too full of their self importance, assuming themselves to actually be the best the league had to offer. After Sherwood forced his way out to Spurs numerous others decided that they were too good to roll their sleeves up and put in a shift. I can accept players not putting in effort for a side that splashed cash wantonly and wasn't a real name, but to see the lack of effort from players wearing the shirt of such a club as Liverpool currently is sad. I accept Hodgson has to go and he has to take responsibility, but there are many factors that have led to where we are, not least of all the players themselves.

Frank Rijkaard is exactly what we need, a successful manager at a big club (Barca). He proved that he can turn an underachieving team around, Barca were awful when he arrived, then they won 2 league titles and an european cup.

He sets his team out to play football the right way as most dutch coaches do, and unlike Roy he will actually be able to attract some top class players to the club but will also give younger players a chance if they are good enough, he bought iniesta and messi into the barca team. he's already worked with the youth team coaches we now have at the club so that can only be good. Get Roy out and Frank in NOW!

Realist.

I think if we get a manager who wants to play good football Jan Vertonghen would be an excellent buy. He's a solid defender who can play the ball and has a good shot on him. He's a similar player to Agger. Would love to see him at the back with Agger, in a team that plays good football. Had enough of Skrtle and Soto at the back.

Right lads what is really going on?? is roy getting the size 9 out the door?? we can't go on like this much longer. kenny is a no go for a replacement manager even tempory cause if results don't improve it'll only damage his rep and that would be terrible as the new generation of fans would never think of him for the great servant of the club that he has been. we need a manager who will let the team play with the freedom to attack but defend as a team when needed. fr might be a good bet but also consider vincente del b. he just won everything with spain. he didn't do too bad at real either.

I've jujst heard Roy Hodgson was offered a lifetime contract while he was at Malmo. . . .such a shame he didn't accept hit.

looking through his record it appears he turns almost every time bottom of the league clubs. . . . . . into middle of the table clubs. . . . . . and low ranking countries. . . . . .into mid ranking countries. . . . . .

Does anybody see the pattern here?

so if you are a Roy fan, our great team won't be relegated at all, far from it!. . . . . . . we will end up 11th or 12th at best. . . . now do u see it, he has to go, his tactics are 30 years out of date. He has already said why should he change the tactics that have served him well for 35 years, after all he did win the swedish league 5 times in a row(tho' Malmo were by far the biggest team in Sweden anyway, and richest. . .think equivalent of Chelsea.

Lets hope Frank Rijkaard comes in sooner rather than later.

Ed, any comment on this? {ed's note - I am not convinced Rijkaard is the answer, but at least we would be able to enjoy watching the team play once more.}

Macca, any news on the manager front?

I have been told he has two games to sort it out.

If this true Macca then we are in serious trouble. Roy needs to leave/ sacked. If not now then after the Blackburn match whatever the result.

Why Mata, Turan and the rest? We should be finding and singning more Jonjo Shelveys. . Then the future will be bright indeed.

Is it just me but does Roy look totally lost on the side line? Just imagine being on the pitch things not going that well (every game this season) and you look over too your manager for a bit of a lift and you see Roy biting his nails, scratching his ear, head down, looks like his best mate has just been run over by a truck! How the F* k can you lift your game when you see that s* t going on! We are playing crap football but if you look over at the sideline and see a passionate manager that will give you the bollicking of a life time if you are not performing, Believable for a new passionate manager or unbelievable for Roy.

Ed Whats your take on the chances of signing Juan Mata ?

LFC1

{Editor's Note: Remote at best. Valencia are having a great season in the league and are in the Champions League. The player would likely not want a move - certainly not in January.}

Ref Mata

Here is what has been said yesterday 22nd

GUILLEM SAYS: Mata is about to renew his contract with Valencia. I think that if the club goes through a bad period - by which I mean one or two defeats - then they may announce the agreement which is basically all but done. So Mata will stay at Valencia for a while yet. He feels he is one of the most important players but that he can also still develop and he's got the perfect environment at Valencia to do just that. It will be interesting to find out how much money Liverpool have put aside for new signings. In my eyes, their owners don't appear to have a huge amount of money and some of the finances for the squad will have to come from selling other players. That suggests to me that they are not in a position to sign someone of Mata's stature.

I feel sorry for Roy and I really like him but I do think that perhaps he might not succeed at LFC. Let me explain my thinking. His style of play appears to require the players to be prepared to become one of eleven cogs in a football machine (sort of like a footballing equivalent of the Borg: I can see why he has been so successful in Scandinavia). This approach of being more concerned with keeping the shape of the team rather than pressing the opposition for the ball all over the park works (didn't the Special One's Inter basically give up on trying to get the ball back when they played against Barcelona in last year's Champions League semi-final - and everyone hails him as the greatest!). Roy is an intelligent chap and manager and when he has his type of player playing for him they like and respect him and his style works. Nobody can criticise him for wanting to manage LFC when offered the chance. We would all want to. Unfortunately this style would probably never work at the 'Pool (at the moment) though because we have too many players who, while being outstanding players, would never be prepared to completely sacrifice their natural urges to be the big star crowd favourite even if it meant that the team would start winning stuff (albeit in a possibly not always beautiful manner). Perhaps if the ratio of robots to superstars in the team was shifted in favour of robots (but retaining one or two superstars of outstanding talent; Gerrard, Torres) we would become world beaters. I'd like to see it work. Anyway as a Liverpool fan I have felt a bit ashamed to see some of the personal attacks on Roy on this site and others from other Liverpool fans. I would hate to think that Roy thinks that all us Liverpool fans can be so narrow minded. We're better than that
