Eds reports that lfc have enquired about mineiro lb douglas costa. Globa? I think who also said firmino was signing for us. Anything in this? Moving interest from Chilwell to expensive? Thanks.

Believable0 Unbelievable4

{Ed002's Note - There has been a discussion with another English side about Douglas Costa - but I am not aware of any Liverpool interest.}

22 Jun 2016 23:48:08
never seen him play but he was quality on footy manager a few years ago. means nothing mind. Is he any good?

23 Jun 2016 04:53:23
santos, no costa, mineiro left back is douglas santos.

{Ed002's Note - That is what I meant. Yes, there is interest from another EPL side. Liverpool's interest is elsewhere.}

Ed02 thanks.

not sure what all the fuss about Chilwell (or other LBs) is.
We have the Scouse Cafu who proved he can play there. Or right back. Or prob even midfield. As CB cover, Gomez is brilliant and Emre Can can play anywhere.

Hi Eds, saw the media today linking us to Lyon winger Ghezzal. Apparently "made a move for him in January", is there any truth in the rumours? Thank you.

Believable1 Unbelievable2

{Ed002's Note - Lyon's Rachid Ghezzal has been watched on several occasions this season by Arsenal's senior scout in France. PSG and Stoke City have both spoken with Lyon about the player but they have no interest in selling unless a new deal cannot be agreed. If however a very large offer were to be made, that might change.}

22 Jun 2016 20:49:58
Thank you very much Ed002. Is he any good as a player?

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - Good enough for PSG to be interested but I don't know of any Liverpool interest.}

OK, thanks mate.

23 Jun 2016 21:24:31
What do you mean by very large Ed? Similar to what we will have to pay for Mane?

Zielinski to have his medical after the he euros.

Hi all,

Suggestions from some Italian media that an agreement has been found between Udinese and LFC for Zielinski. Ed's are you aware of any developments?

Thanks as always

A-P.

Hi Ed's, rumour I've heard today that Juve are looking at Benteke to replace morata. Heard anything in this front? Not from a reputable source I must add.

Believable0 Unbelievable4

{Ed002's Note - You need to try the search function as this has been dealt with in the past but Juventus are expecting to lose one forward this summer and are aware that another might also depart. They have already identified the two they are looking to bring in. If Mandzukic were to leave then perhaps they would be looking for the Benteke style of striker so right now it remains unlikely - or perhaps far from first choice.}

22 Jun 2016 14:02:04
Ed1, do you think that we'll possibly only pursue Mane if Coutinho does decide to leave?

Or have the papers actually got it right that he's Klopp's no.1 target?

Believable1 Unbelievable3

{Ed001's Note - Klopp does like him, and it is nothing to do with Couts.}

22 Jun 2016 14:16:13
Thanks for the quick reply Ed.

Do you think Couts still wants to leave? I hope he doesn't but I think he may have his mind made up.

I remember after the Southampton game and Mane scored against us (could have been a brace? ), Klopp wrapped his arm around him and they exchanged a few words. lots of smiles and laughs between them.

If Chillwell is the clubs n more importantley Klopps number one choice to improve a weak point in our team then just get the bleedin deal done.
Stop arsin around over £3 Mill. He will be signed on a 4/ 5 year contract so the extra money is insignificant over such a period if he is of the calibre to be believed.
We haggled over Bale with Southampton over £2 Mill add ons. Do we never learn.

It's Andy Robertson, not Robinson. And I don't think Chilwell is Klopp's "first choice". Doubt he even had a clue who the kid is until the "transfer committee" raised him as a potential target. Same with Robertson.

Seems to me Klopp has left signing a LB to the committee and these are committee targets. This might be for one or more reasons.

Maybe Klopp's own preferred LB targets like Hector and Guerreiro were deemed too expensive (former) or went elsewhere (latter) . In the alternative, it might be that Klopp still prefers Moreno as a first choice LB. and he simply asked the committee to find a better backup; Chilwell seemed like a cheap, young option with some upside. Now it seems, not so cheap.

Agree0 Disagree9

{Ed002's Note - I explained about the interest in Chilwell months ag and there is also interest in Amavi - the bid for Chilwell came with the knowledge of Klopp - if you want to bitch and complain then you need to stop blaming the Transfer Committee and look very firmly at Klopp.}

22 Jun 2016 16:19:09
I have no doubt the bid went with Klopp's knowledge. I just highly doubt the kid was on his radar until he was raised as a target by LFC scouts.

Agree0 Disagree4

{Ed002's Note - I think you will find that is the purpose of scouts - and if they have done their job well, Klopp, his staff think it is OK, it has been discussed with the Transfer Committee, then a bid will be made. Oh wait ....}

22 Jun 2016 16:29:46
Not disagreeing with any of that.

I just taking issue with sentiment further up the thread implying that Chilwell is some kind of handpicked Klopp target; like Chilwell was on his personal target list when he arrived a LFC. He's a target pitched to Klopp by scouts and he agreed to the pursuit. This is to distinguish from, say, Benteke, who Rodgers reportedly personally strongly pursued last summer, despite opposition by the Committee.

And I've also been critical of Klopp on here. I think, for example, he made a big mistake in January in veto'ing the Teixeira signing (he admitted it himself) . Teixeira, who scored more goals at Donetsk than Willian and Costa, at 38m doesn't seem so bad when we end up paying for Mane at 30-40M. Teixeira would have also helped us in the league and in Europa. If LFC were willing to pay up and he said "no", thinking he could persuade Dembele and Gotze to come for cheaper, that's on him. And now we'll likely pay a comparable amount for a fourth choice winger option in Mane (after Dembele/ Gotze/ Teixeira) .

Agree0 Disagree3

{Ed002's Note - I dealt with all of the Teixeira stuff at the time and explained how the price would go up and up - it was not going to happen. The club has targets which they have been watching and they will have a subset of those that there is a collective agreement on pursuing further - talking to agents, clubs and perhaps making an offer. If the players are not ones that Klopp has an interest in then they won't get to that stage. If the players are ones that the club is unable to afford in terms of transfer fee or wages, it will not get to that stage.}

LOL MK- that's right. No mummys boys allowed thank you.

Agree1 Disagree2

22 Jun 2016 17:37:09
Wow, are we really talking about demanding the club pays £10m for a lad who has never played a game in the PL? How manyvof those clamouring for this deal have ever seen him play?

Bonkers, truly bonkers, go and spend it on a proven international quality player would be my advice. The world has gone mad if we do pay that much.

Agree6 Disagree2

22 Jun 2016 23:08:19
Kloppo knows him because his mate is the boss at Huddersfield and had the lad on loan and it was he who brought him to Jurgen's attention.

22 Jun 2016 10:41:08
To be fair I'd be happy if we paid 10 for him. Not bad at as all.

Agree6 Disagree6

22 Jun 2016 12:50:19
How good is Chilwell? doesn't seem to have played many games at all yet some people seem to think he can come straight in to our first team? i'd be a bit worried if our best leftback option next year was a 19 year old with 11 games experience, but then again I've never seen him play.

Agree13 Disagree3

22 Jun 2016 12:53:54
What has he achieved for a £10m price tag? Does having an English passport put £6-£7m on your head?

He is a £3m player at best. Our Teixeria at £400k has achieved more in the game.

What is Ibe worth if Chilwell is £10m? £50m? More?

Didn't we sign full England international right back Clyne, with over 100+ EPL games under his belt cost around £12m? Rate Clyne or not but compare cvs for your money and put forward a case for £10m on Chilwell.

Please hope we walk away.

Agree8 Disagree2

{Ed001's Note - who cares what we paid for an average England right back who was coming to the end of his contract and asking for a transfer? What has that to do with the transfer of anyone else? Why do people have this notion that one deal has anything to do with another? The question should be whether or not Chilwell is the player believed to be the answer to our left back problem. If so, pay what it takes. I don't care how many caps he has or how many games he got, I just care if Klopp thinks he is the right man for that role.}

22 Jun 2016 13:01:01
LB needs to be priority not a kid that is 2 seasons away from being competitive enough to challenge Moreno and that's IF he gets to that level. No PL experience and one good half against Spurs second string and now worth £10m? Hector is a full German international and only worth £20m Leicester been watching our performance in the transfer market when we buy from Saints and thought we'll have a but if that. Might be a bright young thing but LB is not somewhere we need to be gambling on.

Agree1 Disagree5

{Ed001's Note - if Klopp decides he is the right option, then how can you, who has clearly never seen the lad play, tell us different? These asinine comments slagging off a player people have never seen, deciding what quality or lack of he possesses out of pure ignorance and stupidity, are just ridiculous. Hector is a full German international who has not played well in the league in about 25 games I have watched him play, that is why he is not worth much.}

22 Jun 2016 13:27:19
Eds I have seen both play and Chilwell is lightyears away from Moreno's so isn't going to be competition for a couple of seasons at least. My issue is the cost for such little experience it has nothing to do with the kids quality. I'm not just some ignorant kid who is just after huge signings. I have been behind the signings of Grujic and Zielinski. If we had a quality LB and the kid was cover then great, he's worth a go but as we need an improvement then even at £10m it just seems a bit much. As I've said before, the window isn't open yet I'm waiting to reserve my full assessment come August.

Agree0 Disagree4

{Ed001's Note - I am sorry but I think you are massively overrating Moreno if you think the lad will not compete with him. As for suggesting he is not a quality LB, I will take the word of Steve Walsh over yours any day. The guy who picked out most of the players for Leicester rates him very highly, that will do for me.}

22 Jun 2016 13:27:56
If Chilwell is the guy that Klopp thinks can fix our LB issues, then pay the money and move on. Klopp's former lieutenant David Wagner is his manager at Huddersfield and who can better evaluate Chilwell just like Klopp would, than his own trusted friend? I say, get the kid and quit messing about. I may not have ever seen him play but it doesn't mean he's not good enuff so those saying that, know very little about the game.

Spot on #1 and redohio.

Agree3 Disagree1

22 Jun 2016 14:15:17
I agree if we want him just pay up the necessary amount. I would actually prefer we sign Chilwell for £10m than Hector for £20mil. Hector is obviously further along in his progression but spending £20mil on a left back is not the something I believe the club should be doing unless he is something ridiculously special. Hector to me (judging from Colognes matches not Euros) seems to be very steady and a 7/ 10 player in most attributes. That he is a german starter is more because of their lack of options at full back than anything else. Don't get me wrong I like his style but he is not worth £20mil.

Agree2 Disagree2

22 Jun 2016 13:58:20
all I can say is is Chilwell £10m better than Smith? If not then why not coach our own kids and save the money?

Agree2 Disagree1

22 Jun 2016 13:59:05
Eds, do you know the lad? I am from norway and i know people, who know him. He went to RM because he and his father thinks it is the best fotball club in the world, simple as that. Sorry to say this, since u own this site and all, but i think its quite low saying a teenager is grabbing money and has no belief in himself. Maybe you ment something else, but that's what i got out of your comments. Its actually somewhat provoking.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - I really do not care what you have to say, that is why he chose it. Best club my arse, he knew he wasn't going to get a game but also knew it would set him and his family for life. It was about money not the best for his career. Now that is not low, it is business and this is his career and he chose the quick money. I am not judging him for it, I am pointing out what he did. No one said he had no belief in himself, but he did know the coaching staff had no interest in him and didn't want him when he signed the deal with the training with the first team clause. That is why he threw tantrums and fell out big time with the club and Zidane.}

Is this last post from Norway_lad about Odegaard? It is showing up with the Chilwell posts.

{Ed001's Note - yes.}

Ancelotti has admitted in his book that signing Odegaard was a PR exercise.

22 Jun 2016 11:15:55
Hopefully saints buy some good players this summer so we can have them next summer lol! Nah but being serious I don't think his worth any more than 20 mill reports suggesting 30 . I'd rarther oxlade chamberlain from Arsenal his going for about 25.

Agree1 Disagree6

22 Jun 2016 08:48:25
Southampton want £40m for him. Frankly he isn't worth a third of that. We should walk away from it, given that £40m would probably get a proper worldy like Reus we shouldn't be discussing it any further. If we go ahead and sign him for that it would show that we haven't learned anything from our previous failures.

Agree4 Disagree5

22 Jun 2016 11:54:53
Agree with you entirely their deno. Reus would be an impressive signing .

£40m, if true is a joke. Even if pay £30m, another joke, but is there no one across Europe or the Americas available for £15m-£25m who is twice the player? Surely at least two or three names out of 300 clubs must appear.

Agree2 Disagree4

{Ed001's Note - if we had found one, then we would be trying to buy them instead. Sometimes people just moan for the sake of moaning. It is pathetic on here during the windows.}

24 Jun 2016 19:13:17
My philosophy is as follows:
You have to ask yourself when considering buying a defender or midfielder, the following question. Not only, is he better than what we have in that position, but also is he better than the main man, Emre Can? Because he has played at RB for Germany, and frankly could play anywhere in midfield or defence.

And if we are considering full backs, would they be better than Flanagan. And for wingers, the question should be: can they beat Flanno?

Any opinions?

And here is a riddle.
