Hi eds, just a quick question, I don't usually listen to gossip or rumours, anymore, but heard a report on merseyside radio that real had made contact with Liverpool over Salah, more rubbish or anything in it, cheers.

{Ed002's Note - I have explained this over and over - Salah had his representatives contact RM.}

20 Mar 2018 22:04:00
I think Ed2 mentioned this months ago lol or it certainly seems that long ago, old news.

I understand that ed, I guess I was asking is reals interest that strong that they've contacted Liverpool over a possible move, cheers for the reply,

Do you expect him to leave in the Summer ed?

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed002's Note - no}

21 Mar 2018 07:36:38
Ive been reading this page for what seems like a decade, back when Macca was a regular poster. Questions and replies like the ones above just seem to scream out journalist. don't know why you bother authorising the post.

Chaps. I think we should just enjoy the wonderful football we are watching from Salah. I don’t think he’ll leave in the Summer but, if we’re not challenging for the PL and CL in the future and his form continues he’ll want to leave.

Only clubs like Man United can keep their top players without challenging, prime example De Gea. One of the best keepers in the world playing for poor United teams since Ferguson left. Difference is, they are paying him a fortune.

For the top class players to stay let's face it you've got to be winning things consistently and not nearly every year 😉.

De Gea would go if he had chance, but I think he has wanted away for a few seasons.

Glad to hear he isn’t expected to leave next season!

Hi Eds,

I am not going to focus on the in's as you have given us great info already and as you say these things change all the time.

However is this a good summary of the expected outs?

GK - Mignolet, Ward

Def - Clynn, Klavan - What is the plan with Moreno do you know? will he be staying?

Mid - Can - also possibly one of Milner or Lallana?

Att - Sturridge - Also what is the plan for Solanke as he has not really kicked on? Possibly a loan?

Any info is greatly appreciated

Thanks.

Believable3 Unbelievable1

{Ed001's Note - Klavan is a maybe on an out, Moreno is likely to stay for now. Too early to know with Solanke but a loan is very possible, it is more likely one of him or Ings ends up sold.}

20 Mar 2018 12:42:59
im hearing off a good source can is holding out in til his contract has a month left then he will sign for city.

Would think Origi will leave, probably Kent.

20 Mar 2018 14:55:04
City can have Can for me if that's true, not sure he's progressed that much here, he'll end up warming their bench I'd guess.

Agree10 Disagree5

20 Mar 2018 15:14:21
I think Klavan is a decent option to have around the club, seems a nice bloke with plenty of international experience (albeit for estonia) .
He's not going demand ludicrous wages and nor will he expect regular playing time.
IMO his form at start of season was better than Matip's and on par with Lover's.

Agree21 Disagree1

20 Mar 2018 15:39:29
All this talk of Mignolet and Ward leaving and only one keeper coming in! Would this mean our third choice next season would be Bogdan (enter pained expression emoji here! ) am I right that his contract runs to June 2019.

Hopefully we can keep Ward but I understand he just wants to play can't blame the lad! It would be nice if Bodgan asked for his contract to be ripped up so he can find a team to play for!

Thanks Eds for all your insights and feedback.

Agree0 Disagree2

{Ed001's Note - no, Bogdan is just with us to get back to full health.}

20 Mar 2018 16:43:12
I would rather keep Ings and loan Solanke with Origi and Sturridge sold.
Ings looks sharp whenever he comes on and seems far more likely to bag a goal. If god forbid Bobby got injured I would much rather (& have more confidence in) Ings up front than Solanke. We may well come good but to me looks a long way short of quality needed to be our first choice back up forward.

Agree10 Disagree1

20 Mar 2018 16:46:13
Our third keeper will be exactly who our third keeper should be - an academy keeper who could theoretically stand in for an emergency but realistically will never play a game.

Agree13 Disagree0

20 Mar 2018 17:28:19
I agree hjikle. A goalkeeping department of Karius, handonovic (my preferable for back up option) and shamal George.

Agree6 Disagree1

20 Mar 2018 19:27:23
Give Solanke a break. Just because he didn't outplay the best front three in the league week in and week out means we should get rid? Ings has been shining in what little time he's had, but Solanke has that something special to pick up a fair few for us if we can get him a bit of time on the pitch with Salah or Mane. But the schedule ahead of us is too important to give youth a chance at the moment so Solanke will have to wait for next year.

Agree5 Disagree4

20 Mar 2018 21:18:58
Would love to see both Ings and Origi kept, with Solanke loaned out.
Origi is probably closest thing we have to Firmino's style of play if Bobby was out, and I like Ings effort. He needs a goal or two for confidence though.
Klavan to go and Matip to stay. Clyne to go. Mignolet to go. Ward to go. Flanagan to go. That's about it for me I reckon.

Agree1 Disagree6

20 Mar 2018 22:44:31
I wish Ward would be given a shot at the #2, although I'm sure he's looking for a #1 opportunity.

Agree2 Disagree0

21 Mar 2018 06:43:24
I think grabara deserves to be our 3rd choice next season. From what I've seen in the youth games he looks really promising. I'd like to see Ndidi come in to the midfield regardless of whether Can leaves or not.

Agree2 Disagree0

22 Mar 2018 19:17:14
Bogdan had a really bad game for the under 23s last night, that could be his last game for us .

Agree0 Disagree0

19 Mar 2018 23:21:52
Hi Eds, I know we've been linked with loads of midfielders (Draxler/ Lemar/ Ndidi/ Ceballos/
Jorginho/ Seri/ Fekir to name a few) but are we looking to bring in one or two (as well as Kieta)?
Thanks.

Believable5 Unbelievable0

{Ed001's Note - I would only expect one at most, then Keita and a right back + a back up keeper are the priorities for the summer.}

20 Mar 2018 04:53:15
Eds 001 can you tell us maybe who it could be? Butland for back up? Jorginho? Thanks again.

Agree1 Disagree3

{Ed001's Note - neither of those two.}

20 Mar 2018 04:57:48
Backup keeper really doesn't sound good. I think we need a quality keeper at least and a center back. if we do sign those two i'd be pretty chuffed.

Agree6 Disagree19

{Ed001's Note - not happy with Karius?}

20 Mar 2018 05:06:27
I’m happy with Karius right now, he looks like he’s finally finding his feet, I think he could become a very good goalkeeper.

Agree25 Disagree0

20 Mar 2018 05:19:06
Hi Ed - if Hendo gets injured and Can leaves, do you think Keita is more likely to be the player dropping in deeper or do we need someone else to come in?

Also, do you think it would potentially make sense for us to consider a 4-2-3-1 with Hendo and Keita able to double pivot or is the 4-3-3 firmly entrenched given how our front 3 are playing?

Agree2 Disagree2

{Ed001's Note - personally I would prefer us to get someone for the deeper role,

As for formations, it is not FM, the formation changes constantly throughout a game.}

20 Mar 2018 05:34:05
Cheers, and fair point on formation, it was quite noticeable against Watford how deep Hendo was at times, dictating play as almost a third CB.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - the only time formation matters is when you don't have the ball, when players will get into shape. Even then, it depends on where the opposition have possession as they will shift about to counter. At some points of the game there will be 3 or 4 players in wide areas for each team, but no team plays 3 or 4 wide players in the same team. Really formation is not all that relevant any more, unless you are talking about rigid dinosaur managers like Pulis.}

20 Mar 2018 06:01:12
Hi Ed, so based on your response up there do you think Karius has impressed to the extent that he should be the No 1 for next season?

I seem to recall one of the posters saying that Karius really impressed in training, and I also think he has improved leeps and bounds from last season. I’m excited because in a short space of time it seems like he has eradicated, or at least not exhibit, most of the errors of last season. It would be great if we can continue to see him develop year on year.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - unless we are going to get a world class keeper, I see no reason to change him.}

20 Mar 2018 07:04:23
Ed I no that keylor Navas is the one Klopp wants in sticks but im not sure he will be happy to be back up to Karius?

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - he does not have a lot of options, no top club is interested in him as a first choice.}

20 Mar 2018 07:15:01
I do like Karius Ed001 but if we had the opportunity to aquire a world class keeper then we should. If we are going to really push and challenge Man City and top teams in Europe in the future a top class keeper is so important, De Gea at United a prime example.

I’m not so sure about Achterberg either Ed001.

I agree with you regarding formations, especially the way we move forward in attack. But there are times when we need to do something different, just small tweaks, especially when teams set out to frustrate the front 3. Ashley Young took Salah out of the game last week and we struggled. We kept trying to thread the ball through the eye of a needle against a well organised United defence.

We need to spread the play more when we come up against these teams, take Sane af City for example, when things are right, he literally hugs the touch line which draws the defences out.

Agree2 Disagree7

{Ed001's Note - nonsense. Young did nothing of the sort. The 8 players packed within the penalty box blocked his runs not Ashley Young.}

20 Mar 2018 07:36:14
1) Draxler (to provide cover for our front 3 and drop into midfield to add more creativity and burst of pace. Effectively a Couts replacement

2) DLP most likely Jorginho or maybe Paredes. Can play with Hendo and Keita in midfield or a Hendo replacement depending on the opposition.

3) Backup GK if Ward and Migs both leave

4) RB bcoz Ed001 says so. Cannot think of anyone I would want that starts over TAA tbh.

Cannot see anything more than that in the summer. Klopp likes to keep a closely knit squad. Wholesome changes are not his thing.

Agree4 Disagree1

20 Mar 2018 08:48:57
Just to follow up Ed, who would you put in that world class bracket that’s “attainable”? Obviously that rules out De Gea and Buffon. I would say Alison and Oblak?

The other German options, Leno, Horn, Ter Stegen are very very good but I don’t know if they’re that much of an upgrade, if at all. Interested to know what other reds feel as well.

Agree2 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - Alisson would be the onlyone and I expect him to go elsewhere.}

20 Mar 2018 08:56:39
Righto. Thanks ed!

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Mar 2018 08:57:04
I think if Karius continues his form until the end of the season we should stick with him, he deserves it. Bringing in another GK I don't see as urgent right now, unless of course it's Allison but that's not going to happen.

Agree4 Disagree0

20 Mar 2018 09:23:18
I am happy with Karius ed, but i still feel it an area we should be better in. Will give it till the end of the season though. If Karius does good then he is the no.1
my only gripe is with the world knowing that we are in for a keeper even the second choices are going to cost a bomb so why not just buy a world class first choice keeper.

Agree1 Disagree6

20 Mar 2018 09:28:30
Been some great update snippets from Ed002 and Ed001 last few days. I would be happy with keita and another starter quality CM and a RB. Think that would improve the squad if we are able to keep our key first team figures.

Agree7 Disagree0

20 Mar 2018 10:53:15
Hmmm so reading between the lines replacing Emre, Clyne and Mignolet are priorities this summer.

Personally I think we need two central midfielders as Hendo (injuries), Milner (not a midfielder) and Gini (anonymous more often than not), Ox (not a midfielder) aren't the hub of a title-challenging team.

As for Karius, well kudos to him for re-establishing himself and being a keeper that does not lose us points. However, wouldn't a title challenger want a keeper than wins you points?

Agree3 Disagree8

20 Mar 2018 10:09:04
Hi Ed001, thanks for what is very interesting info. When you say a back up keeper will be sought does this mean both Mignolet and Ward will most likely move on? Ward is the one I'm most interested in with regards to what plan Klopp has for him. Thanks.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - Ward wants (and needs) first team football and Mignolet has a face on because he was dropped and is not good enough.}

20 Mar 2018 10:15:57
if karius continues to perform like he is right now, im happy to give him a full season next season.

only make a purchase someone like alisson is attainable. most likely he is not, so first team focus should be on right back, and replacements where necessary.

anyway ed001, do you think we'll be looking at any CBs? is klopp happy with the 5 that he has (including gomez), or are there potential changes there as well?

thanks.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - in the immortal words of Ed002 - rtp!}

20 Mar 2018 10:54:06
Ed. You say you only expect 1 CM at most, how do you see the midfield line up? I agree we need to replace Hendo as he's to slow at starting attacks and teams get organised very quickly when he's on the ball.

surely we also need AM. I'm struggling to get a sense on our midfield. I think Keita is an upgrade on OX, aggressive box to box. But who going to supply the quality as we have moved away from coutinho in midfield but struggle against defensive teams. Where does Ndidi fit in.

Keita - DPL - Lallana
OX Hendo -
Gigi Milner -.

Agree0 Disagree1

{Ed001's Note - no I did not say that.}

20 Mar 2018 10:54:15
Just reading the thread about Karius and I’m really pleased to hear that he might be getting the chance he needs. More so, I am relieved Butland rumours are fading out. We have potential in Karius, he’s shown that he wants to succeed now he needs to prove his ability it for a longer term.

20 Mar 2018 13:03:50
yeah ed001 just as i scrolled i saw the conversation right at the next post.

go easy on me ed have been so busy at work haven't been here for atleast a week. new record that is! haha good day ed.

Agree0 Disagree0

{Ed001's Note - no worries mate, there was no F in the reply after all.}

20 Mar 2018 16:40:13
We need a 'Kante'. Simple as. Hendo was magnificent in the season that Gerrard played 6 and though he plays the deeper role very well, if he doesn't have to have an eye and a half behind him, he can go and play his strongest game in the middle. He is currently our most creative midfielder and he also plays the deepest role. Give him some license along side Keita and we'll be laughing I think. There is also the problem of Hendo's injury record and a defensive type/ holding midfielder would at least give the cover we don't currently have, and very desperately need.

As for the keeper, I'm chuffed that Karius has come on in the last few months. I don't know if it was always the plan to just buy a back up but if he has changed Klopp's mind, he's also saved us a fair few bob as well. Good lad.

I'm torn on the right back, however. The young lads have really come on leaps and bounds this year and I just hope they're not stifled too much by a new arrival. Maybe they'll get more of a go in their more 'natural' positions.

I'm just mainly chuffed there's no mentions of the Keanes, Aquilanis and Degens of this world. I am excited to say the least.

Agree2 Disagree3

20 Mar 2018 19:05:50
Flypelicanfly, correct me if I'm wrong but Karius made a few good saves against Newcastle that could have easily been described as 'winning us points'. At the moment we are winning our games by quite big margins so it doesn't allow a keeper to win us points unless he's making 3-4 world class saves per game. I'm confident Karius will 'win' us some points throughout his tenure, give the lad a chance to first he's barely played half a season.
