Come on. You really think squad numbers make a difference to transfer policy? By that logic, Mane getting number 10 could equally just be the club assuring him of his importance. If they want Fekir, the available squad numbers won't impact that.

Like many of the old Liverpool players I would guess souness still has a lot of involvement in the club and a lot of contacts in there too. He might not know everything that's going on though, I reckon the fekir comment was probably his own thought on the situation.

Honestly, I don’t see Fekir coming in this season. I don’t see how LFC could comply with FFP if they don’t unload some players already. The wage bill was the third highest in the PL last season, and has only grown larger.
However, I don’t see this as a negative. I believe one of the Eds has mentioned that Pulisic would not be available this summer. I’d love to hold off if that means we can bring him in next year. This may be a bit of American bias, but I think he will become a better player than Fekir in the next season, maybe two, and also a much better investment as he is a younger talent. Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to see Fekir in. I rate him highly. But it seems to me it could be better for the club long term if he’s passed upon.

Also, there’s a lot of clamoring on about needing a creative midfielder, especially with Ox out. If we keep as is, our first choice midfield would be Fabinho in the 6, Hendo in the 8, and Keita in the 10 (in my opinion, of course) . If that’s how it plays out, Hendo can be pushed further forward than last season allowing him to do all the tireless work many expect from Keita. Keita will still be able to do this, but with Hendo and Fabinho in behind, he can sit further up and focus more on creating. Thus easing our need for a creative midfielder.

20 Jul 2018 20:57:41
The squad is irrelevant, Mane was the number 10 at Southampton. Numbers do not impact a players decision to come to a club. The club will still need to offload several players and will raise money that way or via loan fees. If they were to offload players they can easily raise enough to stay in compliance. Plus we are due the money for the Champions League and I think we were in line of making nearly 70m pounds. The 13m we made from Ward and the sale of others should bring the club in line with FFP, plus that would not impact us until next season (19/ 20). So there will be time to raise the funds.

I’m confused at the idea that Fekir isn’t coming because Mane now has the 10 shirt. Fekir wears 18 for Lyon so I’m not sure he’s bothered about having the 10 shirt.

{Ed001's Note - what the hell does any of it have to do with cash? You really are completely ignorant of the reality of business. Please just stop before you make even more of an arse of yourself than you already have. It is embarrassing reading your inane mumblings with no basis in reality due to your lack of any kind of understanding of business dealings. How do you not know what a loan is and why the club has such a huge amount of them owed?}
21 Jul 2018 09:47:31
But Christos told us a few days ago that he had a Masters in such things Ed001? I'm a qualified accountant and whilst I can't claim to fully understand how a football club business works I can clearly see from our accounts that we need to be prudent with our money to head off any future problems - Ed002 reminds us of this frequently, I don't understand why people ignore it.

Maybe I need to go to that same uni too mate.}

To take the point to the other extreme - Arsenal were fairly cash rich for a few seasons and spent naff all.
I can’t keep up with the immense amount we’ve spent in 12 months yet people still talk about the Coutinho money as if it’s still sitting in our bank account.
The Coutinho money (which we probably haven’t finished collecting) would easily be accounted for by Keita + VVD + fees. In addition In addition last summer we bought Robbo, Ox and Mo for 80 odd million plus fees.
So far this summer we’ve bought Fab, Shaq and Alisson for about £120m plus fees. How can anyone assume we are sitting on vast cash reserves?

Club financial statements don't show debt owed. Or am I wrong? Ed002 has been saying for years that liverpool are taking on more and more debt. Try not to tell the edds what to stick to as they give a lot of information on many aspects of football that most of us would never hear about without this site. Just to be clear, I run a business, which is pretty successful, operating a 45% retained profit.
Liverpool has some debt, but a debt which is entirely serviceable. Liverpool is spending (when accounting for inflation), around 39% less than Chelsea did when Abramovich bankrolled Chelsea, but they're also spending less on wages as a percentage of income. Chelsea debt spent their way to the title, and daddy converted the loans into equity prior to FFP becoming a thing that's designed to keep the top teams exactly where they are.
Liverpool's debt is predominantly the stadium debt, which will be repaid in time. It's working capital debt is reasonable, when compared with income (it's around 20% revenue, which is entirely manageable in an industry where growth is assured with every TV contract renewal.
To be more clear, Liverpool could afford to buy Fekir if they wanted, and still be well with FFP constraints.

There have been numerous rumours since Klopp joined that we have been actively scouting Jonathan Tah. Is there any truth in that and is he a player that we could look at to partner VVD long term?
From what I've read (not sure if correct) he has a €30m release clause, if that's the case it would be a no brainer as he is a talent, is young and for the money wouldn't be a financial risk.

Hope for his sake they decide to take him on a permanent deal. It'd be a good club for him to finally put down some roots.
Apparently their coach wants to keep him for their friendlies back in Germany and take a longer look at him.
All I can find about how he performed in the games was google translate from a German site: "he has hinted at his potential and left behind scent marks. " Which rather delightfully makes him sound like a feral skunk. :)
