Shaqiri is going to make a summer switch to Anfield Hot of the Press! He is a wing wizard as they call him .Ed your input on this one as well.

{Editor's Note: Bayern, Villa and from memory a couple of other clubs have reportedly expressed an interest in addition to Liverpool.}

Ed, guns to your head, who will we sign in the summer? {ed's note - it's February, far too early to say yet.}

Expect liverpool to be linked with Valencia MIdfielder/ Winger Sofiane Feghouli. Comoli a big admirer and Feghouli hasnt settled as expected in Valencia. good player with great potential.

Also Griezman of Real Sociedad will be seriously looked at over the next few months. Expect Comoli and other scouts from the club to be present at most of his games. Great player with loads of potential. These two would be excellent additions to the team. K3

To more realistic transfer targets

Forget Edin Hazard, Sergio Aguero and all the other over priced and ridiculous names being mentioned.

Liverpool will try to first of all tie Dirk Kuyt (unfortunately) to a 2 year deal and offer Pepe Reina a more improved and longer term contract with NO buyout clause in it.

Liverpool will definately test Aston Villa with a 15 million pound move for Ashley Young.

We will make a 5-8 million pound bid for Charlie Adam and it should secure him relatively soon as the season finishes.

Liverpool will make a bid for Jose Enrique for a starting figure of 10 million this should be enough, as he should put in a transfer request.

I also expect us to go for Arda Turan but it all depends on how much we get for sales and also it could be that we don't be successful with the Ashley Young bid.

But i do expect Liverpool to go for another striker and it maybe the purchase of Conor Wickham. I can not see Liverpooll going for Karim Benzema as i can't see Liverpool keeping 3 top class strikers happy.

I won't be surprised if Damien Comolli sign a few youngsters and maybe i wouldn't rule out the likes of Gervinho, Matuidi, M'Vila, Payet and other french players being limked if our original targets don't come off.

{Editor's Note: If Liverpool can overcome the embarrassment of Comolli going back on his word that he would not raid Saint Etienne for their players, winger Dimitri Payet would be a realistic and available buy in the summer. A much more viable option than Mata, and a player who wants out of St Et. The opposition will be Paris Saint Germain.}

Squad assessment with a view to areas of need/ investment (just my opinions)

GK - Much depends on whether or not Reina stays, if he stays & despite all the rumours there's no reason to believe he won't then we are set. Jones is an adequate back up with Gulacsi & Belford coming through the ranks.

If Pepe moves on then Handanovic looks like a great replacement in that his cost and age fir the 'NESV profile' - sell high, buy low

RB - Johnson, Kelly, Darby, Robinson - No need for change here

CH - Agger, Carragher, Skrtel, Ayala, Wilson, Kelly & Wisdom - The big Greek can move on, lots of speculation about buying a player here but I'm happy enough with the quality of Ayala, Wilson & Kelly who should all appear more next season with Carra gradually getting phased out of the first team

LB - Mavinga, Flanagan, Wilson, GJ - definite area of concern. Konch and Insua are surely on their way out. Wilson may yet establish himself at LB for the remainder of this season. Long term looks solid, do we make do and mend for the short term - it may well be prudent to do so

HM/ DM - Lucas, Poulsen, Spearing, Coady the first three are all solid squad players and CC is the future but not ready yet. I think this is in need of a short/ mid term fix. M'Vila is being touted as is Ever Banega neither of whom I'm convinced about. People talk about an Alonso replacement or a Masch replacement but what we need is a Didi Hamann type player, the question remains as to who ?

CM/ AM - Meireles, Gerrard, Cole, Pacheco, Suso. Pacheco remains frustrating as he simply has not progressed as we all hoped and needs either to go out on loan and get some valuable experience or be moved on. Coady is talked about as the new Gerrard but I think he's more likely to dislodge Lucas/ Poulsen next year than SG.

Cole looks to be jinxed & Suso may need to have a team built around him, which could well halt his development, again a year out on loan may be in order for the youngster.

It really wouldn't surprise if once again we go to the great well of central midfielders to address what seems to be a perennial problem.

LM/ RM - Kuyt, Maxi, Jovanovic, Cole, Pacheco, Suso, Sterling, G. Johnson. The future is brighter than a beleasher[sp] beacon but we need some pace and guile to go with the grit and graft we currently have. Marveaux is troubling as once again we appear to be targetting a crock.

A. Young needs his price to drop to a more realistic level before anyone gets him. Next January for £7-10M would be a reasonable deal. I don't see him being allowed to leave Villa for less than £18M this Summer & he's simply not worth that.

Jarvis from Wolves is a possibility as is Oxlade-Chamberlain. Sterling's progression needs careful monitoring but the wings remain our main area of concern. I think IF Marveaux signs then we can forget the likes of Mata, Turan & Sanchez etc

GJ on the right and Marveaux on the left with Sterling/ Suso making cameo's from the bench would be my leaning at present

ST - Suarez, Carroll, Kuyt, N'Gog. IF the wing situation is addressed then Kuyt is a reasonable back up to Carroll. N'Gog maybe has one more season to develop enough physically or he'll have to go - again might be best to go out on loan somewhere

Transfers in order of priority
LB
LW/ RW - but only 1 not 2
DM/ HM
CM/ AM
ST

I'd hope to get the following
LB - Valencia's Mathieu, Coentrao or Enrique
LW/ RW - Sylvain Marveaux with back up options of Jarvis or Oxlade-Chamberlain
DM/ HM - Yann M'Vila
CM/ AM -? ? Stewart Downing maybe
ST - Conor Wickham, Karim Benzema, Bojan Krkic
GK (only if Reina goes) - Handanovic

Shown the door
Definite's - Kyrgiakos, Insua, Konchesky
Possible's - Poulsen, J. Cole, Reina
Out on loan
Pacheco, Suso (maybe), Wisdom, Adorjan, Gulacsi

expected outlay £30-£40M
expected income £5-£10M (+£18-25M if Reina is sold)

I think that should improve us, although I think 4-6 players is a little unrealistic & expect to probably see only 2 or 3 arrive.

Would be interested in others thoughts. .

Unsigned and the Ed at 20 Feb 2011 17:15:42
...... but a do get annoyed with the constent put down of some fans posts on the site, we can dream and believe again and we deserve the best in the world,..................

{Editor's Note: Pretty much everything you have written is drivel ................. You seem to be struggling to assimilate the written word).}

The Ed no doubt forgot to mention that he never puts down any of the view of the posters! However, in defence of the Ed, if all you want to do is dream about Liverpool buying the world's best players, don't ask for the opinion for the Ed or anyone else as it is bound to end in in disappointment.

Sharkey.

{Editor's Note: Sylvain Marveaux was concerned that he would end up sat on the bench all of the time at Chelsea - and that as one of the reasons that there was a firm "non" to similar interest from Manchester United. All of this nearly resulted in a move to Germany with Wolfsburg but Rennes decided to keep the player to see if they could negotiate a new deal. It now seems certain he will move to Liverpool this coming summer.}

Thanks ED, It's good to know Chelsea and Man U wanted him and that he's not just a pay cheque player.

Ed, thats my point, your a chelsea fan and you don't see them looking for decent players, but agueros, sanchez's but mainly players who will improve the squad. Ed, do you think turan or mata possible' deals will die if we sign young mate?

{Editor's Note: I am not sure I understand your post, Liverpool may well move for Turan or Young, but I doubt both. If either happen, there will be no interest in Mata - who would in any case be much more expensive.}

Liverpool are targetting 5 players for their first team. Talent, attitude, low age and value for money are the attributes they all have:

Yann M'Vila (14mil) Holding midfielder with a strong physical presence. To replace Christian Poiulsen (2mil)

Eden Hazard (22mil) Fast, agile, good dribbler with a final ball. He can play on either wing. To replace Joe Cole (5mil)

Jose Enrique (11mil) Relatively quick, brilliant crosser. Strong, tall and gets his positioning right as a LB 90% of the time. To Replace: Konchesky (2mil) Insua (4mil)

Neven Subotic (16mil) Relatively quick, tall, strong. Reads play very well, like someone about 5 years older than him does. Good in either penalty area. To replace Kyrgiakos (3mil)

Sylvain Marveaux (free) Quick, good dribbler. Left footed player for the left wing. Final ball is often lacking though. Replace: Milan Jovanovic (4mil)

James McCarthy (6mil + add ons) Box to box, good stamina, though not so fast. Superb final pass. Possibly someone to eventually replace our Steven. But he will stay at Wigan on loan for another season.

Alex Oxlade Chamberlain (6mil + add ons) Fast, 2 footes, quick feet, final ball. It's all there. In the mould of our very own Raheem Sterling.

McCarthy and Chamberlain are both superb prospects but are not intended for the first team next season. Dalglish will look to bring through Suso, Sterling and Coady more next season.

LIVERPOOL ED', mate who do you think we will sign in the summer for our wings and will we still pursue adam? {ed's note - yes to Adam, and almost certainly a return of the interest in Young, obviously Marveaux but I am not 100% on who else we will go for. I am sure it will become clear over the next couple of months though as we have the scouts out looking at the potential targets.}

Editor mate, i know your a chelsea fan and are probably not interested by this but do you think the majority of players LFC are going to buy are Camoli's buys after all, i doubht KK knew marveux that well and suarez. I am quite worried as well as i hear about benzema being mentioned, i.e hes french and Camoiil' rates the player. If KK is manager shouldn't he just have first say and not have the pressure of saying yes or no to Camolli's targets? {ed's note - Kenny has the final word on transfers.}

Hey eds, do we have a chance of signing Lucas of sou poulo or ganso? Just bought them in fm11 and they are really good :-)
YoungRed {ed's note - Lucas is interesting a lot of clubs, including United, but I have not heard of us having an interest as of yet. I very much doubt we would be after Ganso.}

{Editor's Note: Firstly we should clear up the figures involved as the reporting of this has been very poor. Aquilani was bought for 20M plus a number of further payments based upon performance and achievement. Putting aside these additional payments, Liverpool agreed a payment plan of which the final installment falls due in June - 5M. The agreed figure for the sale of the player at the end of the loan is 16M and it is entirely up to Juventus whether they pay that or not. So the best case scenario is that Juventus buy the player and, after fees and paying the remaining installment Liverpool will walk away with perhaps £7M. As Juventus have already claimed that the cost for the player is too high, Liverpool may well have instructed Aquilani's agent to seek alternative clubs for the player. Napoli and Palermo seem the obvious choices - particularly if Palermo do lose Pistore in the summer. However, I would suspect that Aquilani may well still end up at Juventus, but with perhaps a slightly lower fee agreed - or Liverpool playing hardball over the fee. Juventus have an option of taking Andrea Pirlo from AC Milan on a free transfer in the summer - financially a better deal than Aquilani, but only a short-term solution. I hope this helps clarify the situation for you.}

That was brilliant Ed and very much explains the situation. Thankyou very much for that detailed response.

Hey ed, if Juve are unwilling to meet the set fee nominated at the start of the loan deal, have you heard or can you speculate on any clubs in Italy who would be interested in Aqua and are likely to meet the fee?

When Kenny gets appointed full time manager, he will go continental in his transfers, with a double bid going for Rolando and Hulk of Porto, in the region of 40m for the pair. Jose Enrique will also become our new left back. We are prepared to pay any asking price below 15m for the Spaniard, and the price should be low with Enrique publicly declaring he is interested in a move. Kenny also wants to bring in Charlie Adam to become our playmaker. As we do not and have not had many Scottish players in the squad for a while, this could be a move to bring back the old grit in the team.

Pepe is getting a 10,000 pound a week pay rise to keep him away from Manure and Dirk is going to sign on until the end of his career. Hopefully the release clause in Pepe's contract will also be removed now!

Hey ed,

have you heard anything on the club being in contact with summer free agents? (marveaux etc) or is there only marveaux we are talking to?

also, it seems you have been getting a nice well deserved "break" after the transfer window with much fewer posts.

cheers and thanks for all you are doing!

{Editor's Note: As far as I know the only free agent Liverpool have had any interest in is Sylvain Marveaux. Any free agents from other leagues that the club would be interested in may have come to light in January. Any from England cannot be contacted until the summer.}

Juventus will only pay Liverpool £5m to sign on-loan Italian midfielder Alberto Aquilani on a permanent deal, representing a potential £17m loss for the Reds.
Full story: Sunday Mirror

ed what are the chances of aquaman coming back to us as juve are claearly after getting him for peanuts? surely we will niot sell to them for that price as he has been 1 of there best players this year

{Editor's Note: Juventus are reluctant to pay the €15M in the contract. At present, Liverpool still owe €5 for the player so after fees we would only be looking at a surplus of perhaps £6M in any case. If Juve decide against buying the player an alternate buyer will be sought in Italy - and I suspect this is already in hand. The player does not want to return and the club do not want a player in the dressing room who wants to be elsewhere.}
