Eds, Wijnaldum looked a good player in the U21 Euros, are there any clubs interested, have we or do we hold an interest in him? Griezmann would also be a good option. {Ed002's Note - Swansea, Spurs, Lille and Benfica have shown interest in Wijnaldum over the past 6 months or so but Napoli are keen to strike a deal and Arsenal remains a possibility. PSV will not be keen to sell and he could be very expensive.}

hi edds. just a query. with all the likes of arsenal and utd even us looking for creative midfielders . how come there seems to be little interset in banega? think sthampton wanted him. {Ed002's Note - Southampton and Fiorentina have placed bids for Banega and Inter Milan's long-term interest may still remain.}

Ed02 are spurs likely to sign Lamela aswell? And which teams are interested in Arda Turan? {Ed002's Note - I would not say "likely". There is sustained interest in Arda Turan from Germany with both Bayern Munich and Schalke 04 declaring they would like to take the player and from his former club Galatasaray. Both Chelsea and Monaco enquired after the player earlier in the summer and Monaco has made two bids. An enquiry has also been made by Arsenal and Liverpool has spoken with his agent rather than his club. Atletico Madrid previously rejected a move from Schalke saying they did not want to sell in January and even now they would ideally like to keep him for at least another year still. However, a bid of €24M would be enough to satisfy his club.}

Coates has torn his knee ligaments, out for the year. Thanks.

Believable24 Unbelievable7

It might take a full year to turn the corner ;)
In all seriousness I wish the lad a full and speedy recovery

Shame. Thought this was his year. Hope he still makes WC squad.

I was hoping for him to be sold but now he won't be.

I expect LFC to sign Tiago Ilori this week for £6mill. Not bad for a player with a £30 mill but out clause.

Believable35 Unbelievable28

Are you sure it's not Diego Capel we are actually trying to signing from Sporting Lisbon for £6 million?

Agree1 Disagree0

But out clause?? wtf {Ed001's Note - a but out clause is when a club matching the clause gets to tell all other clubs to but out while they conclude a deal with the player.}

Agree1 Disagree1

He was also a Spurs target. That would just take the biscuit.

Agree1 Disagree0

21 Aug 2013 12:02:50
I like Ilori, IMO looks better than the targets that we were linked to.

Agree0 Disagree0

Zak 007. before Coates was injured I would have said yes. Now its up in the air. If Skrtle is allowed to go, which seemed likely, then I think we would have to look to the youth for cover or even bring in another squad player. Either way Ilori is still on the radar and I expect us to get him.

Believable23 Unbelievable33

Isn't he available for £8m?

Agree1 Disagree1

He'll be a beast in Italy, he's as fast if not faster than the majority of strikers in Serie A. :)

I hope he does well for Rafa and that he finds a second home away from Anfield, great lad and have plenty of memories of Skrtel especially the header against Man City, what a forehead he put on that ball. YNWA Mr Skrtel all the best should you leave us.

Agree1 Disagree0

I can't see us letting him go, especially with Coates injury.

Ed 001 as you are about mate. How many more signings do you think we will make now we have signed Cissokho? Also do you think a deal can be done for Papadopoulos?

Cheers {Ed001's Note - we certainly still want a centre half and left sided forward. After last summer's damp squib of a transfer window, I won't hold my breath on us getting either! I don't think we will return for him, I doubt they will offer him for a reduced price either, so I think that one is dead for this summer anyway.}

Hi Eds,
Just seen the Tony Barrett article that claims Tottenham have had an offer accepted for Willian and that LFC were offered the chance to match the bid but refused to do so, saying that the figure out wayed their own valuation of the player. My question to you is this. To your knowledge is there any truth in this article and secondly if there is when oh when will we stop loosing key players to Tottenham and other clubs due to our inability to compete on a finanacial level. {Ed001's Note - it seems to be spot on. We will stop losing players, not sure how key he is personally, when they are worth as much to us as they are to Spurs. As things stand, they feel that Willian is worth more to them than we are willing to pay. I fail to see an issue.}

Believable19 Unbelievable5

Its a simple business transaction, the player is worth what a club is willing to pay. Hence the Spurs value being taken as the best offer. Coutinho value was worth £8m, that's what we paid as no one else fancied him its turned out to be a great bit of business. i'm all for us paying for a player but would rather we bought 3 players for £10m each than blow it on one who represents poor value. Trust me their are players out there who are great value, just like on fifa mate, no need to waste the cash, just invest it wisely. Here endith the lesson.

Agree3 Disagree0

Purely opinion wise, Ed001, who would you see as an adequate alternative/who would you think Liverpool could turn their attention to?

Cheers for all the work you eds do! {Ed001's Note - not sure, unless we go for Turan.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I sincerely hope Ayre has an alternative in mind or there is an "issue." It still beats me how the Spuds can spend so much money and yet are a small club and not a 'global brand.' More than likely they are spending the Bale money before they even get it. How long do FSG believe we can maintain the massive international following without matching the investment in players made by our competitors? {Ed001's Note - it would be a bigger issue if Ayre is choosing our targets! Spurs are hardly a small club either. That is such a disrespectful and arrogant comment.}

Agree0 Disagree2

Okay so we identify a player we rate as a £25 million buy. Then Spurs offer £30 million. Do we then go to £35 million for a player we assessed as worth £10 million less than that? There has to be a point where you stop bidding as the price gets too high. As far as I'm concerned Spurs are just offering money they're expecting for Bale

Agree1 Disagree1

So Ed, with this logic we will never buy a big name. And with this logic we will never stop losing players.
Wasn't our dear owner who said we can compete with anybody? I fail to see that. 3 big names all failures.
And why? Because we feel a player isn't worth the 4-5mil more? So it is better to let one of our biggest rivals for the 4th place get our target subsequently have more strength and then we end up with nobody just like last year?(don't get me wrong Dempsey wasn't worth it, but why wait in the last minute to get a player?).
In my view it is key to get this kind of player. Rodgers showed that with Mikey early on. He wants badly such kind of player, but it seems we are not paying the extra few quids to get the player. Why? Because we can find another big name? This window? In 10 days?
No I think the problem is not that we weren't willing to pay this amount because he isn't worth it. The problem is the owners couldn't spend the extra few millions. for ANY player. It was their chance to show real muscles. "The club is very confident that Willian will sign" really funny, real jokers. {Ed001's Note - if all you are interested in is us buying big names, then you have no idea what Liverpool are all about. We have never bought big names, we made them.}

Agree3 Disagree1

You are thinking about Sigurdsson and Dempsey. Dempsey is now gone back to America and Sigurdsson had a poor season so looks like LFC did well not to match what Spurs were offering. It might well be the same for Willian.

Agree3 Disagree0

20 Aug 2013 22:19:20
We are just falling further behind Spurs because we lack serious investment. Cheap option will not win trophies.

Agree1 Disagree4

20 Aug 2013 22:43:45
I totally applaud the decision to pull out of a bidding war. Willian @ more than 30M represents a significant risk. We are still smarting from the Andy Carroll swindle. Not at all saying the two players are similar! But falling into the same trap twice in 2 years would be a bit daft. Besides, Rodgers & scouts are doing great on the 6-12M purchases so far.

Agree2 Disagree0

20 Aug 2013 22:48:25
Was Ray Houghton a big name, Ian Rush, John Aldridge, Sami Hypia? None of them were, but when they left the whole world knew about them. Let the club an BR decide what's best for our great team. They will come good, and when they do you will be happy to forget all this "we didn't sign a big name.

Getting behind your team involves being behind your club, you're lucky to belong to the best family in the world! Keep the faith my fellow red, we have some budding legends at our club, but whilst they are young they need our support come rain or shine no matter what.

Agree2 Disagree0

I'm delighted we haven't signed this guy. A £30m fee (if true) is ridiculous. Yes. he hss big hair but he is vastly overrated in my opinion.
We should applaud the club's stance but take a gamble now and then for very special talent and Willian is not in that bracket.
Also, thank goodness Spurs 'beat us' to Sigurdson and Dempsey!
Finally, how do you think Spurs are funding this spree? Gareth Bales transfer fee.

Agree4 Disagree1

I we were to buy a player from that team I'd much rather Mehdi Carcela. Some realy genious shies through every now and then. I have a hug distaste for Willian a man Whose stature is for the whole part based on what people see on football games.
I believe Liverpool are correct not to budge on their offer. Willian doesn't have to move either.
I also wouldn't woorry about ''losing'' out to Tottenham. they struggled to break down Palace, maybe some team cohesion will coome over time. I still think they are completely lacking in defense though. vertonghen kaboul and dawson are all sick notes at centre back and quite frankly none of the left back fill me with confidence.

Agree0 Disagree0

Spurs are running into a brick wall with FFP. Multiple big signings w/ a much higher wage per week than Bale.

48 mil for Borini, Sturridge, Coutinho & Allen.
You can sell 2 who don't work out for about 20m
So you get 2 for the first team for net 28m.

Anyone though who saw Borini's goal against Man U U21 will want to see him have another chance in the first team.

Compare this to a Brazilian left forward for 30m who scores once every 6 games.

I think the strategy is sensible, affordable, and will yield results - but it takes more than a week.

Agree1 Disagree0

I fail to see how claiming Spuds are a small club. It's over 60 years since they won the league, 20 years since they won one of the top honours (I am not counting the Mickey Mouse league cup), they only have one European Honour, over 50 years ago, no Champions League history, gates of middle 30 thousand, they are not a recognised global brand. Indeed some clubs languishing in the lower divisions are "bigger" clubs. I think my description is fairly accurate.

Agree1 Disagree0

Spurs are funding their squad overhaul through the sale of their best player. They are reaping the benefits of their buy British talent young policy of 5-6 years ago. A very healthy profit on the investments in Bale, Huddlestone and they'd make big profits on Rose & Lennon. Our fans are criticising our buy young talent policy?? The very way Spurs went from also-rans to competitors.

Agree1 Disagree0

21 Aug 2013 09:45:34
To say we never bought big names we made them, just ain't the full fact. At our peak we bought who we wanted whatever the price. The obvious was replacing Keegan with king kenny. You had to be around to recall how big a deal that was. The point now is that was history. The transfer market has gone stupid and there are different markets, very rich clubs and those with cl money can pay over the odds and set the market, top names want to go to those clubs. We are at a different level and scouting and developing makes sense.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yes look at Michu for 3 million. There is value out there. Always.

And they play better when there is less expectation on their shoulders. let's face it if we pay over 30 million for a player again the press will be scrutinising his every move and the pressure will be on him

Look at Jesus navas. 17 mil plus add ons. Not cheap but almost half price. He will be a cracker.

I would rather see sterling and Ibe get games anyway

Agree0 Disagree0

The other thing is, bale is SO good that spurs will not replace him even with all these players they have bought.

They would have been better trying to hang on to him for another year until they got into CL. Offering him a contract he couldn't refuse.

Agree0 Disagree0

Would have been delighted if we signed him but agree that the club doesn't move on its valuation of players. There is other talent out there, if we always wanted a LS attacking player and cb then we should have moved much quicker, looks like panic buys now which is not what we need, although Turan would be a neat buy he lacks the pace of the players we have been linked to. On the plus team looked much more comfortable on the ball than I have seen in quite a few years and were slick in the final 3rd.

20 Aug 2013 20:07:50
What is the status of Mario Mandzukic with regards to transfer?
Is he 'available', any interest from LFC?

Believable1 Unbelievable27

I thnk he won't be moving, and he is valued at 20-25M so I don't know if Liverpool would ever bid that high for him, I in other hand would buy him as he would be top scorer in premiership with strenght and headers :)

Agree0 Disagree3

20 Aug 2013 15:56:14
Hi eds, if the willian deal falls thorugh(which is looking increasingly likely) how likely do you think it would be that we would go for arda turan and get him? Cheers {Ed002's Note - There is interest in him from elsewhere and it would not be entirely out of the question.}

Believable11 Unbelievable6

Don't expect anymore Liverpool signings. They are always working hard behind the scenes but are always gazumped due to their stubborn approach to transfers.

No major cup football, no top players it's as easy as that.

Agree8 Disagree8

Smbwings - don't bother watching then its that simple. We have already signed top player. Toure is brilliant. Mignolet quality and aspas looked good too. Add to that the top players we already have the future is bright. The pessimism of some fans is unbelievable. We are still one of the biggest teams in the world

Agree3 Disagree1

Stubborn approach AKA not paying over the odds for players. If we played £30 million + and he flopped you'd complain then.

To the OP Turan would be a good addition, looking forward to see if anyone else is brought in.

Agree3 Disagree1

Smbwings:you'll be the first one to start singing when we start winning with the ones we did get then complain when it goes wrong.

Agree0 Disagree1

When, if we start winning. We were lucky against Stoke.

If countinho or sturridge get injured then were back to square one.

If Suarez goes then we will be 7th place again. We don't have enough quality.

2-3 good players don't make a team.

Agree0 Disagree0

Red leicster - everyone signs when they win and complains when they don't.

Agree0 Disagree0

20 Aug 2013 13:59:55
Ed's 2 u got any info on this willian stuff? Even the echo reporting we've missed out now. Could the papers be overreacting? Reports yesterday were saying he's due in Liverpool an tott for talks, maybe he's just gone there first? {Ed002's Note - Spurs have now made an offer and it will be far more acceptavle to Anzhi than that of Liverpool.}

Believable13 Unbelievable5

I'm not sure this isn't such a bad thing for us. Won't this take Spurs transfers to over 90million which would suggest Bale is definitely off to Real Madrid. That means they have to find 26 goals plus from somewhere and everything else he brings to the club.

Agree2 Disagree0

What a pity. not sure why we declare interest in a player then make an offer someone else can and will most likely beat. Just seems strange as if we're not entirely committed to buying the player. If we fail to sign anybody else before the window shuts questions will be asked.

Agree2 Disagree1

As morrissey once said, Willian, Willian, it was, really nothing.

Agree2 Disagree0

Just been listening to seano and apparently we had only agreed personal terms with willian but not a fee with the club by sunday, hence the swoop from spurs. Seems strange this one. Why agree personal terms but not put an offer in?

Agree1 Disagree0

I'm really not too bothered by being beaten to this guy! In my opinion he is massively overpriced! I think the money they are talking could be split on two players that would have the same impact! If there is no one else available of the right quality at the mo then share it between Ibe and sterling until Jan and have another look then!

Agree1 Disagree0

Maltesechris, are you serious? Spurs are about to sell Bale, and buy Coentrao, Paulinho, Chadli, Willian, Lamela & Soldado. Plus one or two more. Spurs have all but sealed a top four position this season.

Agree0 Disagree2

Oh and Capoue.

Agree0 Disagree0

Chicken little. I think I'm just being positive and praying that Liverpool are being smart here. let's hope there are some twists in our favour before this transfer window shuts.

Hello Eds please reply to this! Surely if we are willing to pay big money we would be looking at Yarmolenko? By far the best winger we could get ATM! What is going on with him? Cheers PDLFC {Ed001's Note - I have no idea what is happening with him, sorry mate.}

Believable12 Unbelievable11

Ourselves and Tottenham are interested in Lamela says the respected journalist Di Marzio let round two begin!

Believable16 Unbelievable9

Wouldn't it be nice if we managed to get 1 up on Spurs by nicking there main target and get Lamela instead of Willian Lamela is a better player and gets more goals, we've lost out on Dempsey, Sigy & now Willian if reports are to be believed to Spurs who are going to have a very good team this year.

Agree3 Disagree1

I'd absolutely love it! Trying not to get my hopes up again though we've been let down far too often.

Agree1 Disagree0

20 Aug 2013 16:48:17
question, why would either team sign both? neither needs the both of them, It doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lamela would be a truly great signing but I don't think we have the will that Tottenham have. Not the fans or players but the money men at Anfield (FSG) now i'm not slatting them for what they have or haven't done, i'm just pointing out that Spurs have so far done very well in the market closing on some fantastic proven players and we've not signed too many proven players in comparison but it's better than what's happening at Arsenal currently so I suppose we should be content at the very least.

Agree2 Disagree0

I was so glad we did lose out on Dempsey. 1 undistinguished season with Spurs and back to the US. As for Gylfi Sigurdsson well we got Coutinho and I know who I prefer. I reckon Willian is over-priced at the reputed £34 million and there are better bargains around. If Spurs are paying out that sort of money then Bale clearly is on his way.

Agree2 Disagree1

He'll be signing for Spurs then.

Agree0 Disagree0

Yeah I agree 30 odd million is overpriced, it's not so much not signing him, it's losing him to spurs that worries me.

Agree1 Disagree0

Just look at the players we 'lost out' to Spurs, Dempsey and Signusson.
Lets be polite and say they have not set the EPL alight since they moved to Spurs.
Who was it that 'lost out'?
The only way Spurs can finance these purchases is through selling Bale. So its not all 'win, win'

Believable15 Unbelievable12

Are there any direct flights to L/Pool or Manchester from Donetsk? Has anyone checked this? Or has Willian flown in from Brazil?

Agree2 Disagree1

Looks like its over in the Willian chase. He is at the Intercontinental hotel in Park Lane.

Was driven by a member of Spurs staff unfortunately.

Hope we have other targets as we need coutinho in the middle.

Agree1 Disagree1

I can't be the only one that thinks. Willian has only ever played for Brazil twice (hes 25!) and only scored 1 goal after Anzhi signed him in January! I think we may have dodged a bullet with him!

Agree7 Disagree2

I posted a while back that Will-ian was flying to London but it hasn't appeared so no surprise there for me. I've also been consistently saying that at a claimed fee of £34 million plus wages he's too expensive. I believe there are better bargains available but no doubt soon we'll start getting the usual "we've missed out on a genius so sack BR and the Yonks" posts.

But I know u say by your understanding rubbishSPURS have not made a bid for willian but surely would there be any truth in it because everyone is reporting he is set for a medical and I for one would be devastated if we lose out again to them please keep us informed because I'm on here browsing every five mins
Thanks a lot and keep up the great work {Ed001's Note - he has been seen flying in to London, that is all. They know his agent wanted to hold talks with Spurs, so the assumption is he is now joining them. I live opposite Derby Moor Farm training ground last Friday Patrick Veira was here, Don't know about a bid from Liverpool but Manchester City are interested

Agree0 Disagree0

Derby have always maintained that they want to keep the player, but manager Nigel Clough confessed over the weekend that he might go if the price is right.

‘There is interest but at the moment nothing is happening with Will, ’ said Clough.

‘But at the end of the transfer window anything can happen.’
Direct quote.

Hughes is considered one of the best prospects in England, and Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is keen to bring him to Anfield this summer.

Arsenal, Chelsea and even Manchester United have all been linked with the 18-year-old, who has already racked up nearly 50 first-team appearances.

But it is Liverpool who lead the race, with Rodgers ready to bid after sending chief scout Dave Fallows to check on Hughes during the England Under-21s’ win over Scotland last week.

eds is there any truth that were about to lodge a £6m bid for Will Hughes? {Ed001's Note - if we are, that would be a waste of time as Derby are looking for more than that and do not want to sell him. We would need to loan him back for a season for that, which would be pointless for us right now. Derby are asking for 10m+, but I would expect them to sell for a bit less. I would be shocked if they accepted £6m this summer.}

Hi eds,
Do you think AVB denying a bid being made for Willian means reports that he is having a medical are fake, also were we to miss out on Willian would we still be looking to sign a 'marquee' player?

Thanks a lot, great site {Ed001's Note - the reports are based on a sighting of Willian in London, nothing more. No idea if he is having a medical, but, like I said earlier, last I heard Spurs were no longer interested, following the signing of Chadli.}

is it possible to fly straight into Liverpool from russia r would you have to fly into heathrow just asking the question rumours in russia don't mean much really do they.Hope for everything expect nothing.

Agree2 Disagree0

I think AVB denying a bid had been made simply proves that AVB will tell lies if it suits him.

Agree3 Disagree0

Would depend whereabouts but there are very few flights outside of Europe that fly directly too and from Liverpool, nearest bet would be Manchester.

Agree1 Disagree0

I think he denied the bid because willian is contracted to another club and he doesn't want to be seen as the pot calling the kettle with ancelloti being the kettle

Hi eds. Cissokho appears to be training with the club, pictures have come out of him signing, but no announcement. Do you think we are waiting on news about Willian so we can make it a double announcement, or is this just coincidental? {Ed001's Note - just waiting on medical results to confirm the deal.}

Any chance of a profile on him Eds?

Thanks! {Ed001's Note - he is on the list.}

Reports that Spurs have agreed fee for Willian. Any truth in that Eds? {Ed001's Note - I don't know sorry. Last I heard they hadn't even made a move for him at all, despite what the papers were saying. I know his agent was hoping to get them interested though.}

Ssn reckon he's in London to have a medical but we know what Sky's sources are like, unreliable at best.

I think the Daily mail have reported he's set for a medical with them. not 100% mind I havnt had the chance to look yet

Agree1 Disagree0

Yea.
even I have been told that spurs have not made a bid however I thought that since so many sites have mentioned that his move to spurs is immenent, I thought that my info might be worng this time

thnx for clearing it up ed001

Willian's agent would love several clubs being involved thus having the chance to play one off against the other and push up the bidding as well as squeezing out a better contract for his guy.

Ha ha brilliant Mr Henry!

have suspended betting on Willian to Spurs. If he wants to go there let them have him, we only want players who want to play for us.
However, this summer spending by Spurs has made their intentions very clear for this season and they finished above us last season. I think we will be way off them

Hi Eds, first time poster. Thanks for a Great site. It has kept me informed and entertained for a number of years now. Absolutely awesome. Seems to me that James Milner is a forgotten man at Man City (or have I missed something). Any chance of a LFC bid. I know we were interested before he joined them. Would he be a good signing? Your thoughts please. {Ed002's Note - I am not aware of interest.}

We've just got rid of downing, last thing we need is Milner. :/ I dread England team sheets with him in it, works hard but no output, aim higher please.

Agree3 Disagree0

Agree with Logical Red, Milner works really hard but his technique is dire, final ball bad, doesn't hardly score. he's the English Dirk, I love Dirk but in our current system he'd be hopeless, Milner would be too.

Agree1 Disagree0

Not good enough these days

Agree1 Disagree0

Totally agree logical red, there's no way we'd go for him, I don't think BR is that silly.

Agree0 Disagree0

Lmfao, Milner? He is not a good player. He is very over rated. Nothing fantastic at him he's just average at everything. Consistant yes, but not a game winner
